Thumbs up to Cornerstone Flooring for the installation of our new floors. But first, our flooring journey began at Floor and Décor. I will say, the people at the store were welcoming and helpful. Even the guy who came out to do the measuring to provide an estimate was nice. HOWEVER, the estimate took a good five days to get and that was after two last-minute phone calls from him (within five minutes of one another), each time asking about the same stuff we had already gone over. Needless to say, we became a bit leery. When we finally did get the estimate, there was NO clear dollar figure attached and for us it created more questions than answers. There was no mention of demolition of the kitchen tile in the estimate, so we just figured extra costs like that would begin to add up. NEXT! A neighbor said a friend had a good experience with Cornerstone Flooring, so we went over to their showroom in Los Alamitos. It's small, but it does the job. We spent about 30 minutes there, picked a flooring we liked and left. The owner Jim Dillon came out as scheduled on a Monday four days later, took literally just 15-20 minutes to measure and handed us a hand-written estimate on the spot. We were happily surprised at that and later that day he emailed us a typed-up copy. The following Monday, the team of Omar and Luis arrived and were very pleasant to interact with, did a great job and explained things if we had any questions. They demoed the old laminate flooring throughout the house and kitchen tile, which was clearly noted in the estimate. And yes, thankfully, they move big furniture, but you need to remove some items on top and inside, which is more than reasonable. Just for a space/time reference, we had roughly 1,100-square-feet of wood-look vinyl plank flooring and baseboard installed and it took 3.5 days...just as they said. I was hesitant to go with vinyl but found out two of our friends had done so recently and the installers said that about half the jobs they do these days are vinyl, so I felt better about our decision. It looks great and is easy to clean, which with pets is just what we needed. Just FYI: Jim took a 10 percent deposit when we agreed to the job, half when the materials were delivered and the other half when the job was completed, which all seemed very reasonable. He even took back an unopened/unused pack of baseboard and credited us back $224. Thanks Jim! I'm writing this review, so obviously we went with Cornerstone Flooring and are glad we did. Plus, we feel good knowing we helped a smaller, local business in our town and know that they will take care of any issues that come up, if there are any, which we don't anticipate. read more

July 2021 - I hired Cornerstone to install vinyl plank flooring that I had purchased elsewhere to replace 10 year old cheap vinyl roll flooring. I'm sure I drove Brad crazy with all of my questions along the process of estimating --- especially bc it was for just one room (125 sq ft master bathroom), but WOW..... his team was absolutely amazing! On time, clean, professional and nice! I would give them a 10 if I could! The installation was perfect and the floor looks amazing. Their prices were competitive and fair. We interviewed a total of five installers. Thank you Cornerstone! PS: I am a marketing professional. I received their yellow flyer on my doorstep that made them initially appear very "mom and pop." I posted this on Google, but I want to share the review on Yelp! I was looking at flooring and had already contacted two places for an estimate. By a stroke of luck, a Cornerstone Flier was in my mailbox one day. I went straight to Yelp, and saw some good reviews, so I gave them a call. I wish I could give more than five stars! All the places I contacted had good Yelp reviews, but Russ from Cornerstone did a little extra, right from the start, to make him stand out from the rest. When I called and explained the type of floor we wanted, Russ was the only one of the three places that listened, brought samples to my house based on what I described, and measured the area. The other places said, come in, show us what you like, and then we can do an estimate. As a busy working mom of three small kids, I appreciated that extra level of service. Russ was also very patient with us as we picked different colors and samples to see what would work best. I found something I liked online that didn't have the sample in the shop, so Russ called the floor rep and got it for us within a couple of days. Next was the install. My husband was here when Russ and his crew installed the floor. The team was on time and professional. My husband has done lots of construction work over the years, so he is extremely picky. There were a couple of minor hiccups during the process, and the crew went out of their way to fix things and make sure we were happy. My husband was impressed and delighted with the quality and level of service! We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Russ, Jim, Paulette, and the crew at Cornerstone Floors. I am now thinking about when we can redo the carpet in the bedrooms, and we will DEFINITELY go back to Russ and Cornerstone. We used Cornerstone Floors for our tile in our bathroom as a previous contractor had done a terrible job. Jim came out and assessed the situation and had someone come out and tile immediately. The only issue was the tile job was a little messy behind our toilet and they were unable to put our closet back on how it needed to be... However, in the future we needed a baseboard redone on our wall after some work we had done and Cornerstone was the only flooring place who would help us... other places kept saying they had a minimum and basically they didn't want to do it because they wouldn't make money off of us...I was very pleased with the service - the baseboard looks great. BEFORE THE PROJECT: Recommended by a friend, my wife and I decided to visit Cornerstone Floors to get an estimate on replacing the flooring throughout our house. We worked with Russ, who we liked right away as he was very pleasant and accommodating. DURING THE PROJECT: Omar and his crew were consistently punctual each day of the project, worked fast, and worked a full 8+ hours each day at our house, rather than multi-tasking us in with other projects. Omar maintained a professional attitude and alerted me to some additional issues like the pan and hoses for the washing machine that needed to be replaced. Their flooring work was excellent. My wife and I agreed to paint the base boards ourselves, so Russ made sure they were delivered in a timely manner, and Omar worked with us so that we wouldn't hold up his work schedule. Cornerstone Floors is a great company. We have a condo that we needed the old carpet and tile removed and then have carpet and flooring installed. The backstory: We found another company that was out at the OC Marketplace. The owner seemed pretty nice until I started asking to many questions and that's when he walked away from doing the job. He gave us our deposit back and just walked out on us. We always say that things happen for a reason and because of him walking away from the job, something good happened. We found Cornerstone Floors. I found Cornerstone on Yelp. I could see they have a showroom locally in Los Alamitos and they were highly rated. We walked into the showroom on a Saturday morning and met Russ. We told him what we had been looking at and he showed us various types of flooring and carpet. His knowledge is incredible and we felt very comfortable talking to him. He welcomed our questions which was great. Russ came out that same day to do measurements at the condo. We picked the product we wanted installed and Russ emailed us an itemized quote. We very shocked at how much cheaper Cornerstone was compared to the other company that we started to go with. Ultimately the carpet and the flooring were better products at a better price. We set up an installation date. The installers showed up on time and after a couple of days to complete the job, everything turned out great. What can I say about Cornerstone Floors that hasn't already been said a million times?! I really liked their down to earth advertising flyer and always said that whenever the time came we'd be calling Jim to do the job. So you know how you put something off until you can't any more and then you want it done that day?! Well that is where we were when I called and spoke to my new BFF Mary at Cornerstone. When she asked when we'd like Jim to come over I jokingly said "how bout today?" but I really did want him to come that day and he did! After measuring our dental office it was time to pick out the actual new flooring and boy were we FLOORED by the choices! It was all so beautiful and would have been overwhelming had it not been for Jim's suggestions and guidance. We decided on a few options and then he let us bring the samples over to our office so our whole team could be in on the decision. Fast forward a few weeks and now we have beautiful new carpet throughout our office and waterproof flooring in our treatment rooms...it's like we redecorated the whole office! Over the holidays, my little boy was just learning to crawl and pull himself up onto the furniture. In his play area, he would pull himself up on the couch, but then fall and bump his head pretty hard on the floor. Though we had a thick shag rug, it just wasn't cushioned enough. While cold calling flooring stores looking for a couple of boxes of stock of my laminate floor that had been discontinued that I needed a major repair on and couldn't locate any (pulled out a built-in bookcase, floor is less than 3 years old, only other option was to pull the whole room and reinstall different flooring if we couldn't find any), I stumbled upon Cornerstone Flooring. When I explained the issue, instead of just telling me "sorry, can't help you" like the other 20 stores I called, Russ was willing to go the extra mile. I emailed him a photo and sku # of the floor I was needing and he promised he would do what he could to help me locate some boxes. This was on a Wednesday. I emailed him right away and got an email back on Friday that he had, in fact, located some stock of my flooring! I was in awe as I had been calling so many places and even the flooring company we usually deal with didn't even go the extra mile. Long story short, I got 4 boxes, the boxes were delivered personally to my house and I was able to make the repair instead of having to re-floor the whole room, saving me thousands of $$. People just don't do this for others anymore and, needless to say, they will have a new customer for when I'm ready to re-carpet the bedrooms. Places like this, that go the extra mile for something this "small", are a diamond in the rough. In fact, my regular flooring company told me "sorry, discontinued" and left it there. Cornerstone has earned a new customer and "thank you" seems hardly enough for how well everything went and how well I was treated. read more

The most important thing in any job is not how you start it, but how you finish it. Our job started out well, but did not end well. We dealt with Owner Jim's partner Russ. He was cordial, accommodating and professional. He even matched another quote we received by discounting his price by approximately $100. I signed the contract and placed my deposit on a Friday and the installers showed up on time the following Monday. They completed the work (new luxury vinyl tile in our kitchen and family room) in three days. Their tile installation work was generally excellent, but not without its share of peripheral problems. Our original quote included replacing the subfloor in the kitchen and staining and installing all baseboard along the floor/wall interface. As it turned out, after removing the original Solarium flooring in the kitchen, the installers found the existing subfloor to be in excellent condition, which meant it did not have to be replaced. Upon completion of the job, Cornerstone offered me a credit for the cost of the flooring material included in their original quote, but did not offer any credit for the removal of the existing subfloor or the installation of the new subfloor, both of which were included in their original quote. I rejected their offer and they reconsidered and offered an additional $222, which I accepted. As previously mentioned, Cornerstone's original quote also included furnishing, staining and installing new baseboard. The installers noted it would be difficult for them to match the existing stain (actually shellac) so I directed them to place the unstained baseboard without nailing it in place. I agreed to do the staining/shellacking myself and they agreed to return to my house once the staining was completed and nail the baseboards in place. They also agreed to reimburse me for the cost of the stain/shellac. They completed their end of the agreement by returning to nail the baseboards in place and reimbursing me for the stain/shellac. Prior to their returning to the house, I was trying to determine why our downstairs phones were no longer working and discovered they had inadvertently severed the phone line in our kitchen at the bottom of the baseboard/floor interface. Obviously, they had not seen the phone line as it was nailed to the side of the door jamb molding (although it was not hidden and was clearly visible). They agreed to repair the phone line, which they did in a less than satisfactory manner. First they removed the door jamb mounding and the above-floor portion of the phone line from the wall. In doing so they stripped the paint from portions of the wall exposing numerous spots of old green paint below the existing beige paint. I will now have to repaint the wall to cover the old green paint. To make matters worse, they tried to salvage the 67 year-old brittle phone line which ran in the crawl space beneath my house, through the subfloor and up the wall to my phone. They tried salvaging the old phone line just so they wouldn't have to go under the house. Unfortunately the line was so brittle, that every time they tried to splice the two ends together, the end of the wire broke off. They finally succeeded in soldering the two ends together, but the net result is the phone line is now a few inches shorter than it used to be and can no longer run alongside the door jamb molding, but must now cross at an unsightly angle from the wall to the phone. It's also stretched to its limit and no longer has any extra play in it. Overall, a really bad job of fixing their inadvertent mistake. The loss is Cornerstone's as we are also planning on replacing all of our upstairs carpeting in the next couple of years. I was originally planning on getting a quote for this new work from Cornerstone, but under the circumstances, I will no longer be doing so. read more

Nightmare experience with this company. The job was replacing my downstairs flooring and replacing fiberglass shower with tile. It took a solid 2 months of stops and starts to complete the work. Unbelievable. The bathroom sink and various construction materials sat out in the backyard in rain and sun and dust for 2 months. The demolition crew came out and tore out the flooring and the shower, the bathroom sink and the bathroom floor. Dust everywhere. A few days later Jim tells me he can't get the flooring I selected! So I scrambled for a week or so to find a flooring material he could get. We finally found flooring he could get. About a week or so later he gets an installation crew over to install the flooring. Then after another week or so of waiting he finally got the base board guys over to finish that. He kept saying a plumber would be over to do the shower. After about a month the plumber showed up. Then after about a week he sends the hot mop guy over then after another week of waiting the tile guy does his work. After another week the shower door guy installs the shower door. In all of the chaos someone throws away the gasket for the sink. Jim reinstalls the sink and doesn't bother to get a gasket that will fit. I paid him his money and he left and I soon found out the sink is leaking water all over the floor. I tried to call him and his phone wasn't working. Apparently he had gone on vacation. He also said he would come back to tile the fireplace hearth which was the same as the flooring they ripped out. Never heard from him again. I've hired a handyman, a plumber and a drywall guy to get my bathroom sink installed correctly. Like I said this whole experience has been a nightmare. read more

Jim lied and said he was on the job supervising daily. Jim pressured me to pay the balance on the job, knowing that sub-par materials were used and did not offer to correct the $16k wood floor project. This amounts to FRAUD. DO NOT USE. read more

Jim Dillon is a very nice man but unfortunately that does not get our crumbling floors repaired. Jim installed tile for us in late 2014. About a year ago the grout began to crumble and several of the tiles are loose. At that time a call was made and we left word but no return call was made. About 2 months ago we called and left word with the person answering the phone and then about 10 days later we called again. Jim did call us back and was apologetic, having a reason for not returning our call. We set up an appointment and Jim did not show up, another call was placed and Jim said he had put the appointment in his phone wrong. He came out looked at the tiles, agreed the work was coming apart, said he would look for matching tiles and get back with us. That was about a month ago. I called about 10 days ago asked how the tile search was coming, the person said they didn't know and would have to have Jim contact us. No contact. It appears that Jim's guarantee and bonding is worth less than the paper it is printed on. read more

I am so glad I chose Jim Dillon to install my tile floors. His quote beat out Home Depot and is very reasonable. Honestly, you can find a handy man or a general contractor who may beat Jim's price, BUT, I have had bad experiences with quotes that are too cheap or too good to be true- you get what you pay for- some of the cheap general contractors I've dealt with do not have the expertise to do specialized jobs, and they end up botching it up. Jim's expertise is floors- he and his crew does ONLY floors and he is very good at what he does. In fact, he even has a specific crew for what type of floors you are installing- he has a different crew for tile vs hardwood. Jim is very professional and reasonable.
