LOVE this restaurant. Barre finally has a nicer restaurant to go to. Other restaurants in the area are pretty good, but Cornerstone is a little more fancy feeling. And they have a bar where people can watch the game on TV. It makes the restaurant a great casual place to hang out with your friends on game night. Depending on where you sit, the restaurant can be more fancy or more casual, and I love that. Also, their $5 burger nights are the best! If you build it, they will come! I have been a resident in Barre for 4 years, and I can't express how happy I am that the Cornerstone has arrived. We showed up at 4, as I heard there can be a longer wait at dinner. The atmosphere is modern and tasteful, I felt like I was in Burlington, not Barre!! They offer a large selection of local micro brews, wines and have a full bar. The menu isn't huge, but the sleek approach leads me to believe that all the ingredients are fresh. Don't get me wrong, they cover all the bases, every thing from soups, salads, smaller plates to entrees. I had the swordfish tacos and it was the most tender swordfish I have ever had. The presentation was wonderful, and they were loaded with fish and avocado. I could barely finish the two. My friend had the edamame burger, which was a vibrant green and served with HAND cut fries! Our server was friendly and prompt. Finally, someone is doing it right in Barre. We also shared the almond joy parfait (very good) , because they were out of the salted caramel ice cream. I went with my family and my mother had the black bean quinoa burger, my step father had a regular burger with bacon and cheese, and I had the duck burger. We had wings that came out after about 10-15 minutes, which was fine, and they were pretty good. The entrees on the other hand took 45 minutes after the wings were done and my mother received her black bean burger with a seriously burnt bun, and my step fathers burger was fine, but not great. I on the other hand was given the wrong burger, I then sent It back and waited another 15-20 minutes, only to receive my burger burnt as well as the bun. I kinda had given up at this point, so I just ate a little less than half and was finished. One would think that after waiting over 45 minutes just to receive the wrong burger, and then waiting another 20 minutes to get the right burger (which I obviously didn't enjoy), that the server would comp that burger but I was wrong. I will be fair, my server did apologize, but that really doesn't make my experience any better. The duck burger concept was great, just horribly executed. We then received the check with the duck burger, and also the wrong burger that they gave me on it. The restaurant its self was gorgeous, they have a impressive drink selection, but my family nor I will be returning unfortunately. read more

I love the fish and chips, however it says it's good for kids when that is not the case. I had lunch with my best friend and toddler who is pretty well behaved and there was barely anyone else in the restaurant so it wasn't like it was busy. We were not offered a high chair nor did I even see one to ask and there was no children's menu. I ended up having to eat with my squirming toddler on my lap and I shared my meal. Not having a children's menu is doable and not a big deal but I did not enjoy having him on my lap. He couldn't sit at the table by himself because he wouldn't have been able to reach the table. You can't go wrong here!!! Went there Sat. night, called ahead for a table, which was a good idea. Got seated immediately. The food is incredible, my daughter had Lobster Mac & Cheese, husband had scallops, and I had the crab cakes. Everything was fantastic, BUT the icing on the cake is DO NOT LEAVE without having the Peanut Butter Parfait!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like dying and going to heaven and returning for a second trip!!!! I had high hopes for this restaurant, but they were dashed. The waitress really should warn people that the steak and cheddar panini is served rare. But she didn't and when I had picked off the steak she couldn't be bothered to ask why. Instead, she seemed irritated and was barely civil when she brought the check. Add to that they were out of the cider I ordered at 1:00 in the afternoon and she was clueless about it. There's only one chance to make a first impression, and apparently they have so much business they don't need to try. I won't be back. read more

After our hotel fiasco in VT this place was such a welcome surprise! As a vegetarian I eat a lot of Mac and Cheese and the Mac and Cheese here might well have been the best I've ever had! There were several other options for vegetarians as well. The menu was short but, to me, that just shows that they're doing a few things very well as opposed to places that do a lot of things badly. I went with my mom who got the chicken salad, which she enjoyed. Her fries were excellent and my beer was wonderful as well! I don't know what it is bout VT that let's them make beer so well. Classy dining has finally arrived in central Vermont! At long last you can go somewhere that's not your established chain, and eat well for a very reasonable price. The flat breads are unique and a great value for your buck. The atmosphere is relaxing, and I can only tell you that Cornerstone is everything Barre has needed to give it some dignity. Cornerstone is the pride of Barre. I last went there 365 days ago and I will be there again today. So here is my story because I will never forget the experience: We walked in about quarter of nine not realizing that they closed at 9p. There was 5 of us in total and we were visiting someone out of town, he was with us but had never been. Most of us have worked in the food service industry in the past so we knew the pain of having people walk in right before closing, in fact we started to turn around to go somewhere else when the host ushered back inside and told us that it was no problem and they do it all of the time. We obliged and sat at a booth on the right hand side. The ambiance was dark and warm, when we arrived the restaurant was full and bustling with an upscale crowd. Our waitress arrived where we again apologized for our lateness and she, just like our hostess told us not to worry about it that they let people in later all the time. She helped us with our drink order since most of us were unfamiliar with their beer selection and everyone except me was wholly satisfied with her suggestions. I'm not dinging off points because I picked out my own beer so I take responsibility for not liking it. She came back a few minutes later and took our orders. I ordered the marinated steak tips: comes with mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables. I can sit here today almost a year later and tell you exactly how that tasted. It was amazing, the sauce was wonderful, I could've licked the plate. The meat was tender, moist and cooked exactly how a medium rare should be. The Potatoes were smooth, creamy and flavorful, when they are eaten in conjunction with the sauce they are even better. I have had a lot of good meals all over the country in the last 365 days and this meal was one of the best. Very excited to be back there again tonight. Service was good, we were sat down and had our food quickly as well. So overall I would say that it is good, my only concern is the portion sizes and the price. I can't believe there is finally a perfect (notice I didn't say good, great or excellent) restaurant in Barre! It has truly taken decades! I went last night by myself and sat at the bar. This was a Friday night at about 5:30. There was one open seat at a bar that holds approximately 20, and that was the only empty seat in the house. I was happy to see such strong support for a new restaurant that was obviously a significant investment. Everything here is top notch, from the decor, to the drinks, food, staff and even the restaurant equipment you see at the bar is obviously state of the art. The lighting and decor is perfect, many nice little touches like the salt and pepper shakers, (go and you'll see) the glassware, and an amazing number of beers on tap. Many times you'll see a busy restaurant trying to get away with one bartender; you won't see that here. Looked like two bartenders and a helper; Mike and Mike are a great combination back there. They are both friendly, fast, and since they've already been mixing drinks for 20 years, they make a great drink too! Some folks on each side of me were eating the flatbreads, and they were raving about them. I ordered the scallops over butternut squash risotto, and I was so happy to see that these people know how to cook scallops to perfection. Four large scallops all had a deep brown sear and were just amazing. I went to school with the chef Jesse Leclair, and although I haven't seen him in a decade, I must say I've heard that he worked at some of the nations premier restaurants and it really shows! I'm proud of you Jesse! I read a review in here from someone who said it was too loud, and although I respect everyone's opinion, I must say that it seems a shame to me to give a new restaurant a rating that lowers it's review over such a thing. When I was at the restaurant last night, there were probably 100-120 people in there, and I had no problem having a conversation with the person beside me at a normal voice, and had no problem hearing her. You can only have it be so quiet when you pack this many people into a space. I have been to resaurants where the noise is almost unbearable, and in my opinion this isn't one of them. If you live in the area and you've ever been to Sarducci's in Montpelier on a busy night, this place is only about half as loud. To the owner's of this incredible new restaurant, I'm glad to see you've done all the right things. You've spared no expense and I think it will really pay off in the end!
