My wife and I want to try someplace while we were here in Danville Vermont. Seems that most of the spots around here don't open till 5 PM, and Goodfellas was no different. We pulled in the lot a couple minutes till five and there were six or eight cars with people Waiting for the hour to ring! The waitresses and bartender did great with that initial slam. My wife and I chose to sit at the bar and be patient as they caught up. We opened with adult beverages, their bourbon smashed for me and their special coffee for my wife. We also ordered Fried pickles to open. The fried pickles appeared to be hand, cut, dipped and fried. They were delicious! We thought the dill ranch sauce served with the pickles was delicious as well. After quizzing our server about what was good and if we were only going to eat there once, what should we have, I ordered their Vermont Chicken and my wife their chicken Parmesan. I thought the Vermont chicken was extremely good! Just a tinge of maple syrup, sweetness, and the sauce and the chicken with fried apples and cheese! Simply delicious. I also ordered their sautéed potatoes which had that same sweetness. My wife's chicken Parmesan was a huge dish! We ended up taking a large chunk of it home as well as half of my chicken. We decided on their bacon, chocolate sundae, happy we did as it was delicious! The restaurant itself was clean and well kept, and all the servers seem to be positive, professional, and friendly! Stopped in for a casual dinner date night before the movies. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We both ordered the Goodfella's burger. The meat was very fresh and prepared as requested. Only recommendation would be the addition of salt and pepper when cooking, but otherwise very tasty. The handmade pickles were excellent, with a good bit of bite in the flavor. The lemonade mocktail ( adjusted to include vodka & Ginger beer upon request) and the bourbon smash were excellent summer drinks. Definitely would recommend giving them a try. read more

Could not have asked for better service or quality of the food, we started with a simple Buffalo Chicken dip and was pleasantly surprised by the chips themself and on top of that the dip was warm but not too hot and also had a good amount of kick and additives. When we called ahead we were told we would be sat by 7pm. Upon arrival there were 5 cars in the driveway and a lot of empty tables. The dining room was completely empty and by 7:10 we still hadn't been sat. We brought it to their attention and they finally sat us. Our waitress took our order and we waited 20 minutes for a drink order (non alcoholic). We were brought our appetizers and then dinner an hour later and our waitress never cleared a single plate. Our nachos were burnt to the metal disposable tray. When we asked for waters the waitress walked away huffing and throwing her head back. She never came back to ask how our meal was and my steak was very over cooked and over seasoned. We quickly asked for a bill to leave and watched others complain and attempt to walk out. Camping with the family and decided a night out to watch the game Red Sox vs Yankees and let someone else cook for us. WOW! Did we make the right choice. The server was incredible, she must have had 5 tables and I never have had such attention to our order and drink timing. Spot on professional! After returning to the Danville area after a nearly two year hiatus, I went back and read my review of Goodfella's and felt I need to share an update. My family and I have been to Goodfella's numerous times in the past, and as I previously noted, was a reasonable bar and grill type atmosphere. The place has undergone a few ownership changes over the years, and I feel like with each change, improvements have been made. This year, our visit to Goodfella's was under a bit of, well, "different" circumstances. we were in town celebrating the life and mourning the loss of my mother-in-law and had some 20 family members in town for the services. If you've ever been to Danville, or driven the Route 2 corridor in that region, you'll know that there are very few places that can accommodate this number of people for a sit-down meal, especially on short notice. We called earlier in the week and they were happy to meet our needs, on a Friday night no less. When we arrived, we found that another family (family friends as a matter-of-fact) had the same idea and were there for the same reason. Admittedly, I was a little worried that the local "bar and grill" I was accustomed to was going to be able to handle two large private parties, and a restaurant-bar that is typically crowded with locals and tourists, on a Friday night. For your full perspective, keep in mind that this is in the midst of a huge shortage in workforce throughout the Northeast Kingdom (ok, so everywhere else in the country, actually) and nearly everywhere has help wanted signs posted. To put it bluntly, this place performed nothing short of amazing! The waitstaff was attentive and accommodating from beginning to end (and anyone who has ever worked as waitstaff knows you dread large parties!) The menu had changed since we were last here, and the new offerings were upgrades from the "bar fare" of the past. The bar had a great selection of local craft and popular beers on tap and even had some local liquors (including a Vermont Maple Bourbon) in addition to the typical mixed drinks you'd find as any reasonable bar. The drinks hit the table shortly after our order and kept flowing throughout our stay without any unreasonable delays. The food was a pleasant surprise! The delicious descriptions found in the menu were met by the food on the plate. I personally had the Vermont Maple Chicken (yep, it has apples and cheese- if you have to ask, then you wouldn't understand) and it was excellent. I also sampled the Haddock, the sirloin steak and the burger. All were great and a significant upgrade over my last review. Not a single complaint from one member of our party (and it wasn't just the drinks talking), everyone was really impressed the service, the food, the everything! Just a quick note about menu prices. Yes $17 Haddock and $21 chicken may feel excessive or pricey, especially if you are not from northern VT/NH. Until you go to the grocery store, that is. Milk prices up here are double the national average and nearly everything grocery related is much more expensive (a bag of Doritos will cost you over 5 bucks and that price is printed on the bag from Frito-Lay) than you will find in most metropolitan areas. It the unfortunate truth for this area and has been for some time. Restaurants here are seeing much higher costs from the supplier and that gets passed on to the customer. There margins aren't any higher than the places you are used to eating. None of these local restauranteurs are building mansions on the Cape by selling you $17 Haddock that you pay $14 in the "Flatlands" (i.e. the rest of the world). Just take that into consideration before thumbing your noses at their prices. Good beer, good food, great service! So you're looking for good pub grub on the run...this is a good place to stop especially if you're looking for something other than a burger. My recommendation is "The Greek" with chicken , a flatbread mediterranean inspired sandwich touting Olives, feta, tomatoes , onion and greens combined with home-cut fries and a balsamic vinegar, oil and spice drizzle that really sets the sandwich off. A little place, hard to find right off of route 2 between St. Johnsbury and Danville. The portions are large and the food is good. The draft beer selection features a lot of local craft beers. The place doesn't look like much but the service, food and prices make it a staple for the locals. We drove by this restaurant several times. Checked a couple of reviews online and decided to give it a go. IMO it's more like a bar than restaurant. No one greeted us when we walked in. We saw some people in the bar and asked if they were open. The bartender said yes and to pick whatever table we wanted. The tables were scattered haphazardly about with chairs placed willy nilly. There were a few seats at the bar, and a couple tables outside. It wasn't crowded as it was only 5:00. Eeeveentually, the waitress came to our table. We enjoy adult beverages but could not find anything that sounded appealing so we opted for water. My spouse ordered the Vermont Maple Chicken. He liked it but I found it to be awfully sweet. The dish was two chicken breasts topped with cheese and maple syrup apples. It also came with a side salad, green beans and french fries. I ordered the meatballs (ok) which came with mashed potatoes(good) and port beef sauce (too salty). The side salad was a decent size with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onion and homemade blue cheese dressing. We had to flag down the waitress to take our plates and get the bill. Pretty steep prices for dinner in a humdrum bar with mediocre service. We'll go back to just driving by. read more

So I went on vacation to visit my girlfriend's family in the middle of nowhere Vermont. The last night in town we went to this restaurant. First off, I think the place could be considered pricey for the caliber food they serve. I went with the panko crusted Haddock for.... 17$. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer. The nachos were nothing memorable. The cheese was unevenly distributed, and it was not uncommon to grab naked nachos. After a wait came the food. Now I like spicy food if the food is supposed to be spicy, but there are certain things that shouldn't be spicy. Panko crusted haddock should not be spicy. Somehow, they managed to make it spicy. Much like the nachos being unevenly distributed with the cheese, the spiciness here was also unevenly distributed, as there were pockets of heat everywhere. Perhaps the cook added too much pepper? I also tasted the maple chicken and that was.... pretty gross.... too sweet. I also tried the fish and chips. They were odd. Not soggy, but pretty tasteless. And the table that I was sitting at had an ac unit up so high that it could blow a straw wrapper across a table. I would not recommend this place as a restaurant. As a bar, yes (they had a decent drink/beer selection) but as a restaurant.... overpriced and not very good. read more

Nice restaurant in rural Vermont. I go on an annual camping trip in Danville, VT each year. Good Fellas has become our regular spot to stop in one night for a restaurant meal and an October Red Sox game. The restaurant is themed around mobster movies, which is just basically pictures on the walls. The food is good, they have great local mini-brews on tap, and the prices are reasonable. It's nice to have a restaurant local to Danville without having to drive into St Johnsbury. read more

From Manch NH and heading to Hill Farmstead Brewery, we decided to have lunch at Goodfellas. Glad we did!! Disregard the review from 2014 that dissed the place. We walked through the bar area which seemed like a good spot to mingle, and headed outside to eat. We ordered a house salad that was fresh as you can get, with a side of blue cheese dressing that was really good! Tasted like home made! Yum! We also shared a "Mob Hit" pizza that was great! After a long day of skiing at Jay Peak and on our way back to Boston, we decided we needed some burgers and beer. Yelp brought me to Goodfellas reviews and we took a chance; glad we did. Only a couple of miles off the highway, we sat in the bar area, was greeted with smiles and bowls of popcorn, the beer was cold, the burgers were great (others had open face warm turkey sandwich & steak and cheese sub), homemade fries and pickles!! Dinner with 5 of us 6:30 on a Friday night. Beyond disgusted. Untrained staff husband asked what they had for bourbon she responded I don't know what that is name a few we have all of them. I decided to just go check the bar they had two. They were out of Mussels a special at 6:30, had no clams and one of my party drank beers out of the same glass as he had the last 22oz glass. Dinner was horrible, rubbery fries overdone steak undercooked spaghetti. I actually ended up getting food at the event we went to after. Seems cheaply done very limited menu untrained limited staff. FOOD POISONING - 7/20/13 - AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!! I have been to this restaurant several times; however I will NEVER go again! I called to let the staff know, so they wouldn't serve the same meal to another guest, and I got was an insincere "sorry". They could have offered a gift certificate to cover the meal I paid for, which I spent 8 hours in the bathroom throwing up, although I doubt I would use it. Stay away or regret it! read more

Had dinner with the niece and her boyfriend from MA. Busy night, and the sign on the door should have been indicative of what's to come ("Wait staff wanted!"). After waiting for a while, the hostess asked if she could take the menu since they've ran out--even if our orders hadn't taken yet! Waited quite a bit for our orders to be taken, and once the food eventually came out, they came out staggered! I only ordered soup since we had appetizers, but it came out late and very salty! I think the a mix was used, and because my order was given to someone else! What's worse, the French Onion Soup was extremely salty! Clearly the proportions were not done right (I'm assuming it was a mix), making it unappetizing. When asked by the frantically busy waitress how the soup was, I told her, but she didn't really do anything (they were busy!). Paid for the bill in full, and we hurried out as they clearly needed the table. Not a WIN for this place tonight, but who knows... we may come back on a slow night. read more

The laminated menus worried me, but I was very pleasantly surprised! From appetizer to entree, was tasty and properly cooked.
