Best food we ate in Stowe, VT so far, by a long shot. Absolutely fantastic food here. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. The wine selection was quite good. Every bit of food was prepared just right. We did eat a pineapple salad that was so fresh and crisp and not overly dressed, which was on the Specials menu. I also ate the Halibut for my main course, which was also on the Specials menu. This was nicely done as well. My wife ate the pork tenderloin, from the regular menu, and it was delicious. The coup de grâce was the dessert. The ice cream of the day, which was an maple gingersnap flavor was outstanding, and carrot cake was hands down the best I have had in my life! The service was good, fast and efficient. We wanted to love Harrison's, even like it - it was awful. We'd heard great reviews from local friends. Pro - service is very good and attentive. Con - none of the 4 of us even liked our meals - they were inedible. We descended the narrow steep staircase into the dark dining room; outdoor seating was not open. The waitress promptly brought us menus and waters. There was a good variety of wines and we settled on the Sancerre. Charging for bread is not a good trend so $10 for 4 Parker House Rolls was disappointing. We also ordered the mussels and asiago fries. The chef seems to favor creamy white wine sauces - the added cream adds a heavy taste without adding flavor. The shrimp & sausage on mushroom ravioli had the cream sauce and cubes of sausage. The pasta primavera also had the cream sauce. It was super bland. We added chicken (see the photo of the chicken breast added to the top side of the dish not cooked in the dish). The salmon and its corresponding carrots were spiced with bebere which is very mild but not particularly enjoyable. And finally, the grilled rib-eye was bad, really bad. It was gelatinous and the worst steak we've ever had. I've only ever seen a steak cooked like this when it's cooked at too low a heat. The ribeye was decent but seemed like they were really afraid of over cooking it (asked for med rare and it was pretty much just rare). While on our Christmas break in Stowe we stumbled across this quaint dining experience at Harrison's. Not only was the restaurant warm and welcoming but the food was outstanding as well as the service! As we returned to Chicago my wife realized she lost her reading glasses so we retraced our step and realized she left them behind at Harrison's. I emailed Harrison's and the manager Kathy emailed me back stating that she had the glasses and would kindly mail them back to us at no cost! My boo started off with the blue cheese martini (he liked the zing of the blue cheese) and then followed that with the maple Manhattan (a little too sweet). - Soup of the day, wild rice and beef: it was hearty, but ok. - Mediterranean calamari: perfectly cooked and delicious. We really enjoyed it sautéed versus the usual fried calamari you'd get elsewhere. - Piatachio encrusted venison. So tender! I made the perfect bite with a little bit of mashed potato, venison, blue cheese and cherry demi glacé! The veggies were also a good sized portion and tasty. Bread and butter on request, which was delicious by itself, and we asked for more to sop up all that delicious sauce from the Mediterranean calamari! Reservations are a must! We love coming here each visit we make to Stowe. We especially love eating on the covered porch. The staff are always so friendly and food exceptional. You can't beat the location off the main street, parking can be a tad of a challenge, it's limited in the back and street parking can be tight especially during peak times. I appreciate that you can book ahead, sadly not for the patio, that is first come, first served. This has deterred us in the past, unfortunately waiting over an hour is not ideal with a 5year old in tow. Meh. No big knocks out the park with food. We shared a bunch of options and each plate had something that could be changed to make it much better. Sauce mussels were in was far too heavy and lacked acid (even a dash of white wine would have done the trick). Mussels themselves were tender and only a few gritty, but we didn't dip the bread in at all after tasting the sauce. Tuna tartare app was very average with a sickly sweet blueberry sauce that doesn't go with raw tuna at all. Chicken picada was solid, but the green beans on the side were so stringy and tough they were inedible. We let the waitress know and she did offer to replace with another veggie. We ate here for our anniversary.. it was definitely an amazing place for a romantic meal great for any special occasion. A little on the pricey side but definitely worth the money. My husband said it was the best steak he has ever had in his life. The cook of the meat, the quality, the flavors, he said if was the perfect steak. I had the grilled chicken with asparagus. I'm happy to review these guys - very cozy downstairs restaurant with a fireplace. We skied hard all day - walked in at 5:30 without a resi. On a Tuesday night. We sat at the bar - we shared the Mediterranean salad special, and both got the ribeye steaks with mashed potatoes and a delicious mushroom demi glaze. It was all PERFECT!!! low key - great food - just what one needs after skiing hard all day. The bartender made me a great rye Manhattan, and the service was great. I will go back, but I will make a resi before hand. It's not a huge restaurant, so i'm sure it books up. Dinner was Amazing and service was point on, The restaurant it self was very nice and couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere. Last night we had 2 orders of trout (one with no dairy and one with), 1 pork tenderloin, 1 wagyu burger and one kids fingers (ok, it was chicken not a "kid's fingers"). Each dish was wonderfully prepared with expertise is presentation and taste. But let's add some more, we started off with 1 calamari, 1 mussels fish and mushroom toast. If you only want one appetizer when you visit, go for the mushroom toast - wonderful! One gets thirsty when consuming this great food, so, 1 dirty martini made using beefeater's gin, 1 lavender haze, 2 switchback beer and 2 Phaze IPA. Very good food and service. We started with the baked brie with jam, it was very good and the perfect way to start a meal. For entrees we had the ribeye and the pistachio crusted venison. A hidden gem just off Route 100 in downtown Stowe, Harrington's offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with a responsive and attentive waitstaff that we absolutely loved. We started with the Korean octopus, grilled to perfection--tender, flavorful, and complemented by a sauce that was simply to die for. The roasted squash salad, featuring delicata squash, fresh greens, and sweet almonds, was another table favorite. For entrées, everyone was thrilled with their selections: chicken piccata, crab-stuffed salmon, and the standout dish--pistachio-encrusted venison. THE BEST MEAL EVER!! So I travel around the country and try all sorts of food out there. Chef Jamie I have followed around Vermont as his food reigns supreme. If you want normal cuisine, he has it-steak, lamb and other basics that are perfected. If you want something crazy, cool and different, he has that too. Tonight I had the standard calamari for me (drink the broth too!). It's always a staple. Then moved on to the venison and it was mind blowing-the sauce was a perfect amount of acidity and savory to pair with the hearty, most tender venison I've had. (Sorry, no photo). The pistachios gave it a great texture for the super soft meat. Since the last time here, 80% of the menu changed which is a great thing. First things first, YOU NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION. I made my reservation a month in advance and some times were already booked. Arrived at Harrison's last night on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. Our server was lovely. We ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer. They were DELICIOUS. Cooked perfectly and made with plenty of crab. I ordered the venison and my husband had the scallops. Venison was a perfect medium rare and seasoned beautifully. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the gnocchi was like eating little clouds of pasta. During our stay in Vermont we tried many restaurants and this was by far our favorite.
