But when people really need the best care, they come to Houston from everywhere in the world. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a robotic assisted surgery which took half of my left lung and I was alert conscious and feeling good just a few hours after the 5-hour procedure. because Dr. Kim used robots so the incisions were small, and my recovery was quick. I was sent home the next day. One day stay for major surgery! The timeliness of care was excellent. it was 2 weeks from referral to meet with the surgeon and two additional weeks to schedule the procedure, so I was essentially cured of my cancer within one month. this compares very favorably to the other cancer hospital next foor, which has a waiting list. to summarize, I had a great surgeon, a state-of-the-art operating room, competent nurses and everyone had a good attitude. really couldn't be better.

Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate.

Out of all of them, the ICU nurses at Memorial were the most caring, compassionate nurses we experienced. Although she was at the end of her journey and no longer responsive, they made sure to keep her clean and advocated for her until the very end. When she was finally pronounced, the nurses all came in and I saw a few of them crying...for a patient they had only been taking care of for 3 days. I truly wish my sister had been to this hospital when she was first diagnosed, but God knows. I'm truly grateful this was the final stop of her journey. Blessings to the ICU staff that gave her such great care.

It was very small and cramped. Tv remote had to be switched out because that wasn't working the first hour. The sleep sofa was in an odd space. But once I delivered I was moved to a recovery room in the jones building. The room was much nicer, but small. The limit is four guest but to be honest that's too much. I also love the celebration menu for the new parents. Steak, lobster Mac and cheese, spinach and key lime cheese cake. A very good reward after not being on a clear liquid diet for two days.

The day of surgery once again I was told by Dr Paul James and the nurses the sam thing no stitches and I'm getting glued up with the mesh. I get out of surgery I didn't get explained anything. I wasn't told how to take care of the wound. After a week I took off the bandage and I found that there was a piece of wire sticking out of my belly button. Weeks past and it was still there, I decided to follow up with Dr Paul James. When I went he told me that he decided to not use the mesh and decided to use stitches, but stitches that were placed inside me not on the outside of my belly button. He didn't want to give a reason why the game plan changed and why I wasn't told. I have called Dr Paul James' office 5 times and still haven't gotten explained why he changed the original plan I was told for surgery which was no stitches and I'm getting glued up with mesh covering the hole. Almost 2 months later and I still don't have an answer. The day of surgery I told the nurses that I am scared of needles. Most of the time after making that statement the nurses are more focus on me being calm and relax because they know this situation stresses me out. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at this hospital. The anesthesiologist that it was funny to pretend that he was going to put a needle into my check to put me to sleep before surgery. I will say I truly didn't appreciate that, it made me feel very uncomfortable. While he kept doing it and pretending to put the needle in my neck, I told him to stop multiple times. Overall my experience was terrible.

My sister is currently in the Emergency Department on a bed in the hallway. She has been there…read moresince 11pm last night. She is very sick with colitis and a colon infection and passing blood. They have her on antibiotics and fluids but is not hooked up to any monitors for pulse ox or BP. They say they do not have any beds in the ED nor upstairs. The ED doctor has said she is to be admitted but will have to stay in the hallway and they do not have an eta on a room. They are still currently accepting patients at the ED and she said they have multiple patients in the hallways lined up like she is. I do not live in Texas or I would be with her and would have already driven her to another hospital. Its is beyond me as to why they are still accepting new patients when they have no room for the patients at present. They just gave her a colonoscopy prep and told her to use the public bathroom across the hall. She refused saying I cant not start the prep until you place me in a room. Completely unacceptable. It's all about the money! So sad.

I love Dr. Prabhu and I would recommend both of them to anyone and I actually have.
