I have come to Cornucopia B&B a few times when I visit my family in Eugene, usually this is a stop with my daughter. We like the Margaritas there, and it's a good choice for a pescatarian daughter and a carnivorous mom. Honestly, I don't remember what I had there the times previous to the last, although whatever it was I liked it. I liked the french fries. BUT, here is why I stop to write a review this morning. Last time, I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. History: I had a Philly CS for the first time (somewhere on vacation...NYC?) over a decade ago. I got hooked, then for a couple of years, every time I saw that on a menu, I would order. Every time, except the first time, the sandwiches were not good, the meat was fatty and gross, the whole thing so greasy. I gave up and vowed never to order that again. Well, a couple weeks ago, I took the chance and ordered a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich at Cornucopia. LOVE!!! It was so delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked, lean, juicy! I don't care for Cornucopia... I dont really know why... I guess it's because people in Eugene vote it "best burgers ever" "Amazing food" So that's what I'm expecting. Nope. Not the best burgers. We went with a large group of people after running in a 5k race. The service wasn't great. (I think every person at the table was out of water at one point) and its expense. Much more than I want to spend for a burger. I've been here a few times... and never been impressed. read more

Great food, terrible service! Went to the 5th Street location last Saturday at 7 PM with my wife to meet another couple for dinner. We placed our name on the waitlist, and went to the bar to grab a drink. The bartender came up, I asked if they had Fat Tire on tap, and I was told "No: we don't carry THAT here. We only have GOOD beer." What a JERK! He acted like I ordered a can of Hamms. So I asked what they did have on tap, and he points to the wall across the room and says "that's our list" as he walked away. So I can deal with a bartender who has a bad day, but the service didn't get much better after that. Our waiter took our order, brought our food, and we didn't see him again until the bill arrived. Come on! At least stop by and check on us. Correction: we did have to flag him down after our food arrived in order to get silverware and napkins. I've been here before, and normally we get great service. But lately, they've been slacking. Not sure if the owner realizes what his staff is up to or not. Anyways: we won't be going back here again. I came to Oregon to visit and heard this place is a great place to try out. I thought my burger was not that bad, maybe a little overrated and over priced. My gf got sick somehow and started to throw up right outside the building. I went back inside after she was done and told our server that she was throwing up and all he said was, "I'll let the cooks know." Oh, ok. That's all you have to say? Thanks a lot. Dear Cornucopia, perhaps, if you managed to leave the tomatoes off my order as requested and had only brought me the side salad I had ordered to replace the fries instead of both, you might not feel the need to charge $2.50 to sub salad. Perhaps, if the ahi on your ahi sandwich wasn't a dry 2" thick slab, one might be able to taste the other ingredients. This is one of my favorite places in Eugene. It's located just outside of 5th street market. I've gone here with friends, with family, family from out of town, everyone enjoys it. My father lives out of state, and has opened a restaurant in Sacramento California, he wanted his place to have a Eugene feel to it because he likes the whole organic deal we have going here. I brought him and his friend (also business partner) to Cornucopia for lunch when they sprung a somewhat random visit on me. I felt this was a good place to show Eugene's somewhat hidden side of food. Seeing that Cornucopia, though well known, is slightly tucked away in a seemingly small building. My father's friend was incredibly thrown when I brought them inside. My father was right at home, seeing that he spent a several years in Eugene. His friend was slightly out of place and kept marveling at the amount of ink and piercings the bartender had (this was after he commented on my body modifications, which a tame by comparison to many). Needless to say, this guy was pretty out of place, but it was a happy Laurence Sterne (minus the extreme sentimentality) out of place type thing. In the end, he was happy as a clam, enjoyed the food, was ecstatic about the drink selection, and he wouldn't stop snapping pictures with his iPad, at that point I just mentally patted myself on the back and said "Good job dude, picked the right place." But I digress (after two paragraphs). Cornucopia has the best chicken strips, I'm not kidding. They do something with the batter, which results in the coating being crispy but very very light... It's almost like biting in hardened cotton candy, it's that light. It tastes fried, but it isn't greasy. The place also serves a damn good Ruben, good meat, and the portions of meat, dressing, and sauerkraut are are perfect. I also really enjoy the service. The people are always down to earth and willing to provide recommendations for drinks. As you can see, I really love this place. The food it good, and the environment is fun. read more

You want a good burger? You use good ingredients. Cornucopia shows how even something as basic as a burger can be on the hit parade by using quality beef from Knee Deep Cattle Company and it also appears the buns are made by a local bakery instead of being something out of a plastic bag. The hamburger patty looked like it was handmade and it filled the big bun quite nicely. It was also properly seasoned and cooked. Add in some fresh trimmings, take a bite, go "yum!" and then proceed to gobble the rest of that burger down! The fries were okay and they are the kind with a mildly crunchy stuff on the outside. The portion size is adequate and you won't need any more than what Cornucopia serves due to the size of the burger. It's no Dollar Value Menu special after all...LOL! One burger here will be your main meal for the day unless you are a very large football player. Then you would eat two and not be able to practice for quite a while since you would be so stuffed! read more

I love their fries! Once a week I have to have their fries, with a tub of ranch. They look so simple, these wavy well-done fries. But something about their crunchy sturdy outer shell yet soft interior make me feel so good. Why are they so good?? Their burgers are all good, partly because of the meat, but mainly because of their bread. Their buns aren't like the soft buns that break easily (that you'd buy from safeway or other grocery stores) but instead are like actual bread. They're toasted, of course, and don't fall apart when you bite it, but instead are a bit chewy. I really recommend eating their fries/burgers with their ranch sauce. Burgers here are affordable, and aren't as greasy as most burgers are. Definitely a good deal for your buck, not to mention it's super close to the U of O campus. read more

Do yourself a favor and get a cheaper just as good burger somewhere else, like Jackalope. Service is ever getting worse and the food more expensive. So professional of the kitchen staff to pollute the joint with their e-cigs at the bar. And don't bother trying to order takeout from the number on the website, it diverts to the 17th and Lincoln Cornucopia, where the staff is among the most clueless and least helpful in Eugene. OMG! First time here and was not disappointed! Hubby and I ordered a burger and easily one of the best burgers I have ever had! We moved here from Southern California a year ago where we were spoiled with an abundance of really great food and have struggled to find some of those here. Well Cornucopia is where it is at! Kids had the kids nachos and mac n cheese! Typically if they aren't served the cheapo kraft they don't like it but my 5 year old son raved about the homemade mac n cheese! Cornucopia was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Eugene. I love it! The food is all made from scratch and they truly do have Eugene's best burger. Great, high-quality ingredients and a chill atmosphere make this a family favorite at my house. It can get a little pricey for two people to have dinner and drinks but it's not too bad. They have a great buffalo chicken salad that can feed two people and their clam chowder is super good. I don't think breakfast is their best so I recommend it for lunch or dinner. read more

The boss requested Cornucopia. Red flags already, but okay. We tried to get lunch delivered for a business meeting. I called the day before at 4:30pm and they were busy, said to call back. I called at 6pm and they were really busy, but then she decided she would write down my order. She couldn't put it in the computer for some reason. So 30 minutes later we were done with that. I was supposed to call back the next morning to give the payment info, not sure why. The next morning I called at about 9:30am and they didn't have the order information. I told the person who I spoke to the day before, and she said, "Oh, we're letting her go, that isn't surprising." Starting over, she took the order and payment info. They were going to deliver lunch at about noon. It was chaos. Only half the order showed up when it finally showed (12:30), then they brought the other half, then they had to bring salad dressing and utensils, then salad dressing was all over the bag. It was awful. We had to get on the phone with them multiple times. We think they didn't charge us. Of course we'll have to watch the credit card to make sure. We are SO DONE with Cornucopia. They are worse than McMenamin's for service! And the food is nothing special, very overpriced. After 20+ visits between both locations, I don't know why I kept trying... read more

I had to try the "best burger" in Eugene according to the Eugene weekly but I didn't think it was "the best" but it was a very solid burger, I found mine a hair dry, not something I was looking for with such high expectations from the paper. It was a little unfair I would have to say to want such a great product without trying it before. The fries were very good, not as good as café 440(my fav in town), but very, very close. The two females servers liked to dink around and chat about how big their tips were instead of greeting people at the door. I really enjoy this place. I love the burgers and especially the wings. I would like to see a half order of the wings available. A whole pound of them is just too much. And spicy, whew! Love them. They also have lots of vegetarian options that my son enjoys including a vegetarian Ruben. However.....if you're in a hurry this isn't the place for you. It's just that simple. There are plenty of places in Eugene that are for people in a hurry. The last time we went we waited on the sidewalk for fifteen minuets watching the waiter go by a dozen times without even saying hi. Eventually we went to the bar and had great service. I am a HUGE fan of Cornucopia. I have been frequenting this and the other restaurant in town for many years. I have recently been seriously disappointed in the service and the food at this location for the past 6 months that I feel forced to leave a review. This place is within walking distance to my office but I will not be going back after my 3rd terrible experience there in the last 6 months. Today my husband and I went there on our lunch break. We waited 10 minutes before finally receiving water and our menus. We then waited over 45 minutes for chicken strips and a salad. This is the second time I have ordered their chicken strips (I'm an addict) and for the 2nd time they were WAAAY over cooked. They were nearly petrified and burned. The tater tots were also way to over cooked and crumbled when I tried to bite into them. They need to change their oil AND hire a new cook. A salad and a deep friend item should be able to be served in less then 45 minutes during a lunch service. read more

I thought the burgers were good - definitely very filling, but we had to wait and remind the waitress for water, I had to go to the bar to place a drink order, and we waited over half an hour for our food to arrive while most the other tables were emptying out, so I don't think the kitchen was too busy. This was my first visit here and I'm not sure why I always see ads that say this place is Eugene's best burger spot. The food was just decent and okay. I guess I was expecting a lot more but the 12$ burger and fries I got was just plain, something you would get if you were to make a burger at home. A Burger King whopper or McDonald's Big Mac would have tasted better than this. There was definitely no "wow" factor with the burger I had, not sure about the other food here. Then they told us to either wait in room completely crowded w people or outside in the hallway. I came for the trivia. No surprise there. Can I review the trivia locations in town or would that bore you? I liked the trivia set-up here more than Rogue. It was more difficult and I appreciate that. Drink: it was hard to read the drink menu from where I was sitting because it was low (4' off the ground) and behind another table with people. There seemed to be a pretty reasonable selection. This is beer country, though, and I've yet to be disappointed in beer selections (still developing a palette though). Food: I went for the Monday special: burger and beer. I was pleased to be informed that meant any burger (but one) on the menu. My burger was well cooked, the avocado was very fresh, the bun delicious. My fries were nice and crispy. Service: My poor waiter. I was so busy gabbing and demanding attention from the other person at the table he had to come back like 4 times to get my order. I was one of those customers. But he was very friendly about it and returned regularly. Towards the end, my water wasn't refilled, but I dealt. Restrooms: They weren't exactly in the restaurant, but they were nearby and clean, although with only two stalls there was a bit of a wait to use them. Came here on a Friday night around 7:15 with a group of 6 and were seated right away. The staff was nice and the food was good, but not great. I'm giving this place a mediocre rating because the wait for the food was ridiculous! Yes the restaurant was full, but not crazy busy by any means. The waitress was nice but took 30 minutes to take our order, and the food took nearly an hour to come out once we had ordered. My boyfriend and I are about ready to move out of the Eugene area so we are trying to eat at as many cool local places as possible. We had heard wonderful things about this place so it was a must on our list and well......not impressed. The food was adequate, even good, but the service was atrocious! We stood at the entry way for a good five minutes before finally getting someone's attention to be told we seat ourselves. It was another 5 minutes to get menus and 10 minutes after that before we were checked on by our server (who had a large beard, with what appeared to be sweat or water in it) asked if we were ready but before we could answer, immediately left our table to help another group since he had forgotten one of their drinks. He was inattentive, slow, and clearly trying to juggle too much. When out food arrived, my boyfriend ordered another side of ranch but it never came. Our napkins had been on our plates for 15 minutes before we could finally flag down our server for our check. He proceeded to give three other tables their checks before ours. We finally just left exact cash on the table and walked out. We saw lots of your employees just standing at the bar, not doing anything then racing to do too much when they realized they were getting behind. Plus the mash up of music from the kitchen and restaurant was absolutely awful. Our second night in Eugene found us at Cornucopia, sort of an upscale Barney's, if you're familiar with that chain in the Bay Area. Good values in inexpensive local wines, great veggie options and burgers (although the name "Vurger" is a little off-putting) and fries were the perfect thing for our group that night. We got out a little late, and most places had closed by the time we got there on Sunday night, and our only other option was a much more spendy place around the corner. With maybe 5 other tables on a Thursday night, it took TWO HOURS for our 3 burgers. The cauliflower wings were pretty good: beer battered w two choices of dipping sauce. The cheese curds were like mini mozzarella sticks but better. Yet when the actual meal came in, two bites and we were all over it. The wait is what killed our appetite. Not to mention someone (who either works there or just knows people that do) brought in a dog and let it walk all over the table next to us. I'm sure those with severe pet allergies would be better off going elsewhere. Granted, the dog owner was strange as hell; the type to stare at you literally nonstop, wanting your attention simply because he has a dog. Uncomfortable vibes. Don't arrive hungry. You should arrive ready to wait a ridiculous amount of time for your meal to be done. They're known for this, too. This place definitely has a different 'feel' from their first location. While the 17th Ave location has a super casual, meet up with your friends here after the game-vibe, the new 5th ave location is a little nicer. Out of the two, it's the one where I would (and did) take my mom for lunch. The table ended up splitting the All American Burger, the Va Va Voom Swiss and Shroom Vurger, and a Cobb Salad. The Vurger was by far the table's favorite, even among the hard-core carnivores in the group. The tempeh is just so well seasoned! The cobb salad was pretty good although I was hoping for chunks of turkey in it but got sliced up cold cuts instead. Wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Wait times to be seated and to get our food was surprisingly long considering we came at 1:30pm on a Thursday. read more

Excited to come here for brunch, seen people post pictures on Facebook that look so yummy! Didn't make it in time for breakfast but decided to get some grub regardless. There was great roots reggae music playing and I really loved the vibe of the place so imagine my disappointment when our server turned out to be especially neglectful. He would walk out of the kitchen, onto the floor so many times and yet somehow managed to never make eye contact with us or hear when my partner actually yelled out "Excuse me!" We actually had to go up to him and request service to order our food and later, after we'd gotten fed up, to get our check so we could leave. Decided not to chance it waiting for him to come by and grab it so I just brought it up although at that point with the consideration he was giving us I toyed with the idea of just walking out and not even paying since I think he wouldn't have noticed. I mean, they were busy when we first came in but about halfway through our time there it was basically empty so I really don't understand why our service was so disappointing. As for the food, it also took so long to get to us even though it looked like some basic stuff to put together. Check out my Mediterranean salad photo to get the gist of what I mean. That salad was basically a deconstructed gyro that I had to reassemble myself (why not just tell me that so I could've ordered a gyro) and on top of that, the plate they served it to me on was barely large enough to accommodate the ingredients that were placed on it. How was I supposed to eat anything without everything falling off the plate? And the food was not pretty enough to just admire. It didn't even look like they cared about plating, hummus was just dumped on a corner with some lettuce, olives hidden under the romaine in the bottom right, like this was a joke. Last handful of times we've been in here, the quality of the food has gone downhill as has the service. Waiting 20 minutes to be given menus then we had to stop him before he took off, to order a single beer. Never was checked on again - had to request my bill when we finally tired of hoping for a 2nd round of beers. Then the waiter forgot my to go order (could be that was because he wouldn't write anything down?) Food also was not what I ordered - Philly cheese STEAK has steak, not ground burger.
