Stopped here at the suggestion of a friend who lives in Highlands. Was seated quickly and the waiter took our drink orders. Another waiter stopped by to check on us to make sure we had been addressed so we were impressed with the attention. Ordered drinks and lunch and it wasn't long before we had our food. Everything was excellent and the portions were more than enough for one person. Didn't feel rushed at all. Waiter stopped by with the check. We noticed a service charge which must be for using a credit card. Ok. Ended up paying cash and was extremely disappointed when they did not bring back our change. We paid for an $18 meal with a $20 bill. Asked the waiter to make change for a $5 bill which turned out to be unnecessary because the waiter took our twenty without returning the change. We left a 20% tip minus the change we didn't get back. Would come back but next time we pay in cash we will make sure to ask for our change back. read more

The Cornucopia is the highlight of my YEAR. I've been coming to this front porch for the last 23 Seasons and it never disappoints. They're also doing a GREAT job during this pandemic mess. I felt they were really doing the best job they could while still keeping the feel the same, and that's really what this place is all about- the feel. You're at home here. I got the burger (phenomenal) and my wife got the Cali BLT which was also great. The burger was cooked perfectly, cheese melted just enough, and the lettuce, tomato, and onion were all crisp and tasty. The b&b pickles were icing on the cake. We went for the weekend brunch recently. It was great. Opens at 11am Sundays but dry as per town law until noon. I had the Crabcake Benedict and subbed the potatoes for a side salad. It also came with fruit, which was a little soggy. The Benedict and salad were excellent. The building is beautiful. You are somewhat outside with great lighting. This was our second trip to Cornucopia and I am happy to say the food has not changed at all. It is still outstanding. There is always a crowd here and late Sunday morning is no exception. All the tables were full, but we were seated in the bar area at a high top. Our two servers, who were also the bartenders, greeted us and took our drink orders. At this point, the bar itself had only a few people. After getting our drinks, we ordered our food and all was well. The wait for the food was a little long, but as I said the place was full. By the time our food arrived the bar itself was completely full, along with most of the other seats at the high top tables. I had the fried chicken salad and my wife had the veggie burger. Everything was fresh, cooked just right and very tasty. The only issue is that now, because of the high value of customers, the servers/ bartenders were so busy with the bar area that the high tops were not served properly. Both of the workers did the best they could and apologized for the lack of attention. This is not their fault, but rather, this is a management issue. If your workers can't properly service the area due to the high volume of people, perhaps you should not have as many seats or should hire more help. I know this is a business and the bottom line is $$$, but poor service will hurt you as much or worse than bad food. This would have been another 5 start review from me, however, due to the service it was just a 2 star experience. read more

Awesome lunch. Went twice during recent visit to mountains. Had California BLT and Turkey Reuben. Both were wonderful and plenty of food. Would highly recommend this restaurant. If you have a sweet tooth, you have to have the buttermilk pie, tried the vanilla and chocolate. read more

Ate at Cornucopia on a Wednesday afternoon. They were busy at 1:00. They apologized up front if the service was slow but it was not. Our server was busy but we were not neglected and her good attitude never wavered. I think the owner -but not sure about that as it could have been the manager-stopped by twice. Damn, this place is popular. Their huge parking lot was so full I thought we might have a hard time getting a table but we only had to wait a short time to be seated. The restaurant itself is quite large, kind of like a big open barn type of building, but very attractive. My friend and I both settled for the Soup and Salad with the Honey Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette Dressing. It came with a slice of Toasted Garlic Bread. The salad was very fresh and exceptionally good. The soup was Corn Chowder and it was very hardy, chucked full of sweet corn and potatoes. Overall the service here was quite good. Just a little slow. read more

We came in to grab an early dinner before our early morning drive, and were handed a transition menu, as they were not ready for dinner yet (We were seated at 5). We attempted to order something off the menu, but apparently they were out of it. We ordered a beer and told the servers that we would wait and enjoy a beer while the kitchen was getting ready for dinner. The time it took to get a dinner menu and the prices for what seemed relatively basic dishes made us change our plans and head to a place down the road. I eat here all the time, so it's about time I review it. Lunch time is sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers... you know, lunchy stuff. You can get something basic and familiar, like a Reuben sandwich, but it will be the best damn Reuben sandwich you've ever had. Same goes for the fish sandwich, the California BLT, etc. You may say, "I've had all those before" but everything is the best everything you've ever had. Get the black and blue salad. Just get it. The beef tenderloin is the tenderest loin ever, and perfectly medium rare. My boyfriend said the bacon cheeseburger was the best bacon cheeseburger he's ever had. Ok, sure, he's not too food-adventurous, but if you saw the thing you'd understand that this is no ordinary burger. He was drooling in his sleep that night and I'm pretty sure it was because of the burger. At least I hope so. He also mumbled "I love you" several times. I'm also assuming that was for the burger. Finish up with the buttermilk pie. OHMYGOD. I'd give five stars, but the wine list was a little silly. Yes, I live in an expensive old-rich-people town, but you should still be able to get a glass of wine in the single digits at a sandwich-soup-salad lunch place. Lunch, people. No one spends 20 dollars on a glass of wine at lunch. (Ok, they do, but I don't, and I'm snatching a star because of it) BTW, this place has a kids menu and I've taken my kids there. I've taken my 3 month old baby there several times lately. So I'm clicking the "good for kids" button. However, you might not want to take your kids if they have a hard time waiting. My older ones do ok, and the baby is only interested in boobs anyway, but kids between 1 and 5 might not be super happy here. Not sure. read more

Its a beautiful drive into the western NC mountains.. about a 2 and 1/2 hour trip from Atlanta. I met a friend of mine that lives in NC here Saturday, and this couldn't have been a better place for lunch. It looks like a barn and is basically one huge covered porch with a very high ceiling--- all white, simple. Just as we arrived, there was a massive downpour. So it was nice to be able to watch the rain come down and chat over chicken curry soup. Nice menu selection, and the service was wonderful, too. read more

We drove over from Murphy to meet old friends for lunch. The venue with the large outdoor dining area is a fun place for meals. We had burgers and pastrami sandwich. Back in the day, Cornucopia was a terrific restaurant. They used to have a big open deck where you could enjoy the great outdoors while eating to die for sandwiches at an affordable price. Fast forward to today and my how things have changed. Instead of an open deck, the dining area is a big high ceiling enclosure. Gone is the charm of the old place, replaced by what can only be described as a mess hall - like dining room. Honestly, I felt like I was transported back in time to my college dining hall, except this time instead of being surrounded by my fellow college students, I was surrounded by affluent retirees enjoying their over-priced entrees. But Russell you say, what about the food? The food is pretty good, I say, albeit priced about 20 % higher than what it should be. [Fair disclosure: just about everything in this area is overpriced]. I had a trio of tuna salad, shrimp salad and chicken salad. It was good, although I noticed the few greens that each scoop was served on was starting to turn brown. It is priced at $16 (see, I told you), but was worth about $12 or $13 at best. The iced tea costs $2.50, but they serve it in a plastic cup, for Pete's sake. [Note to restaurants that charge more than $2 for iced tea - it's only water with a tea bag, not Dom Perignon! If you give me iced tea in a plastic cup, please don't charge more than $2, even if you have really good tea.] I rate Cornucopia as 3 stars. The food is pretty good, although not as fresh as the prices dictate. The atmosphere is mountain sanitized. The prices are high, even by Highlands-Cashiers standards. But they seem to do well, so what do I know. read more

Seems to be THE local place to eat, so while staying in the area we came for lunch one day. The setting is certainly lovely, with a nice atmosphere. The food was good; adequate portions, lots of options, excellent flavor. Prices were about as expected, fairly reasonable. The service we received was curt, hurried, and kind of a brush-off. We were the last table seated before they closed mid-afternoon, but we ate quickly and more than half the restaurant was still full of eating and lingering diners when we left. There was a lot of sighing and eye rolling, and weird things like bringing us coffee stirrers instead of straws. Maybe it isn't always that way, but that was my experience. We didn't let it ruin our meal but it was odd. I'll definitely give it another chance if I return to the area. read more

Food isn't as good as it once was. Took over 30 min for our food, for three people, at lunch. Waitress couldn't really care less and when we asked about our food, she stated it had only been 25 minutes so we have at least 5 more minutes before it's ready. Sweet potato fries were under-seasoned, burger wasn't bad except the burgers were the pre-molded patties. Sandwiches were not bad, I would stick to this part of the menu. Desserts were excellent. We ordered the two steaks ("bacon-wrapped filet with lump crab" and the NY Strip), incidentally the two most expensive items on the menu, both of which were poor quality meat that tasted burnt (dirty grill?) and were overcooked. the waiter didn't even offer a round of drinks when we told him what we thought of the food. My family and I were visiting relatives in Cashiers. They recommended that we try out this restaurant as it was a local favorite. When we sat down everything seemed to be going alright. Then everything changed. The waiter took a good 15-20 minutes to even show up to our table. After that he took our orders and left. It took about 40 minutes to get 5 dishes, and one was for a child! All jokes aside, he didn't even show up to check in on us. When we finally got our food a few of our drinks were empty. He refilled half of our drinks and left. My aunt had to Flag him down to tell him that we (her and I) needed more ice tea. He can back and have her one, looked at my empty glass, and left. Came back 15 minutes later when we were done with the meal and then asked me if I wanted some more ice tea. The nerve! When he finally came back to give us the check he stood there awkwardly and waited for us to initiate someone taking it. Overall I would never go there unless I had an hour and a half to kill for a casual lunch. read more

I was in my way to the Orchard up the road when I saw this place. I pulled into the parking lot being from out of town and it just didn't feel inviting. YELP said this place was not open because they close in between lunch and dinner. Someone should really update that. I absolutely loved the building and dining room with high ceiling and that vintage barn feeling. I could have selected multiple things off of the menu but chose the crab cakes and a wedge salad with ranch. It took about ten minutes to order but then my food arrived in the same time which was perfect. Hilariously the waiter just could not remember to bring me a glass of water as I waited for my bourbon from the bar. I mean no beverage at all. I actually finished eating my dinner and after a 3rd time waving down my overwhelmed waiter he apologized and finally got me some water. My bourbon arrived some time later. I was in a good mood though and had my food so ok nothing to drink. The food was well worth it and priced right but $16 for a single knob creek on the rocks seemed overpriced and the highest I have ever paid outside of a rip off hotel bar at a Marriot on a major city. Get a grip. Come here for the food and cool environment not the drinks. Laid back and fun and pretty close to the new Hampton up the road. read more

We were a party of 6 showing up on a Sunday, after the church crowd. So yes, it was crowded and we were told it would be about a 50 minute wait. No problem...... Once seated our server was there promptly. We all placed drink orders and she was kind enough to let me sample a Pinot Gris, before ordering it. One person in our party ordered an appetizer.......about 15 minutes later he was informed that they didn't have anymore (fries with gravy). Ok, no problem. It took about an hour for our food to arrive. I ordered the Reuben (11.00).... And found it to have the smallest amount of meat in it_especially for the price (see photo). Another friend specifically asked for No Mayo.....and his sandwich came out with mayo....it got sent back. The worst order was the hamburger my friend asked for cheddar instead of American. When he got the burger he noticed the error and brought it to the attention of the wait staff. When they brought it back.......they just added a slice of cheddar on top of the American. We called a manager over and explained the problems. Shortly later the owner came over and was extremely apologetic. He sincerely wanted to make things right with our table. We all would like to say that the customer service we received truly helped turn our experience around. Sometimes things happen.....and we all appreciated the staff trying to make up for the issues. Our waitress imputed all information into the POS correctly....so, the failure was in the kitchen. I will more than likely return when I am back in the area. Just be prepared to wait.....it can become a lengthy wait/dinning experience. And thank you to the staff who did go out of their way to show us customer service. read more

Had a really nice lunch here on a Saturday. First, their outdoor seating under a huge barn porch is lovely. We were covered from the rain but had a airy open feeling of being outside. After waiting about 10 mins to be seated, which we barely noticed go by as we were checking out their little gourmet shop, we had good service and a feat lunch. The burgers looked fabulous but I can't speak to their taste as I did not order one. I had the curried chicken salad and a scoop of the tuna salad - both tasty and not overdone with mayo. My dad had the fish and chips (platter not sandwich) which he ate every last bite of. Overall, nice lunch, good service, good value. read more

My husband I went here at 7:55 this evening . The restaurant was half empty. We were turned away because we were told they stopped taking customers at 7:00. The sign in the restaurant said open Tues-Saturday 5-9. It's also what the website says. Four men walked in in front of us and were seated immediately .
