Not My First Time Here... Would have liked to write a better review but hoping this one at least stirs some conversation. First the Good! Excellent Server - Made great recommendations and knew the menu well. Very attentive. Food? Well both good and bad. Kids selection - minimal. Sliders or pasta. The sliders came out like hockey pucks. Pasta sauce was bland. Cocktails - Drinks here are VERY over-priced and how they have them structured and priced in the menu is just bizarre. Main meals were just OK. With exception was the trout dishes. These were delicious. Wait times - It took near 90 minutes to get our food from time of order. And the place was not that busy while we were there. Because of this, there was no apology or recovery in any way. Finally, wobbly tables and chairs ready to collapse. Will we be back after this last visit? Not sure. We were excited to score a last minute reservation on a holiday weekend. We knew the menu was pricy before coming in, but figured we were treating ourselves for a special night. The wine by the glass list was pretty silly: $18-20 for cheap grocery store brands, so we each ordered a simple cocktail. Both were made incorrectly, my gin martini arrived with wrong garnish and totally lukewarm, my husband ordered bourbon neat, it arrived with rocks and water. Entrees were also pretty crazy prices. The steak prices were equitable to what you find in Aspen, CO the most expensive town in the US...but Choice cut, not even Prime beef! So we skipped the steak and went with poultry and seafood. My starter soup was nice, though a bit too heavy cream. The salad with home-made dressing was excellent. The bread was great also. The entrees were entirely unremarkable. The swordfish special was totally bland, almost inedible. We skipped dessert, and cut our losses. Three stars for ambiance, decent service and tasty salad/bread. Wouldn't return. read more

No frills at this antique setting. Nicely done but you will need to lean in to hear the conversation at your table, it can get noisy from a tight fit within the dining room. The shrimp and grits were very good; the salad was nearly non-existent. Barely a few greens on a dish but whatever. Pricing was high - I tried to make sense of the pricing but other than being situated in Cashiers, I really couldn't see it. Nice place and food quality was good. Stuffed peppers and fried green tomatoes were very good. If you don't care about a budget, you will probably be happy with this selection. read more

This place is a must visit anytime we are in town. The restaurant is cozy and the staff is warm. My wife is pretty much stuck on the mushroom ravioli, which is unbelievably wonderful. Covid 19 has changed the dining experience to say the least. Only the Events Barn is open at this time. Upon entering, you order your food and drink at the counter, pay and proceed to your table, fast casual style. The menu and liquor drink selection are limited to about 1/3 as previous. We went and sat at the table pointed out for us and were served salad in about 3 or 4 minutes. No wine - I had to go back to the order counter to inquire about our wine. Next the server brought our wine and sat it on a serving tray behind my back saying here's your wine and walked away. Same deal when the server brought our dinner a few minutes later - I never saw her face. In less than 45 minutes it was over and we left. I understand the COVID 19 procedures, however, there just was no dining experience here or value for the expenditure of $100. Just order, eat your food and move on. read more

Chad and I had our official anniversary dinner at The Orchard Restaurant in Cashiers NC. I would give the restaurant five stars! The food, atmosphere, and service was fabulous. Our waiter Joe was both friendly attentive. Their menu is very creative. We started with their Mac's Gap Quail. It was wonderful. I really unique combination of flavors. If you like fish, I would highly recommend one of their trout dishes. Chad and I each had the Trout Chattooga and the Glenville Fried Trout. We shared the two dinners. Everything was delicious! I did not take any pictures during dinner of the food because I did not feel it was appropriate in such a lovely atmosphere. Below is a description of what we had for dinner. Next time you're up in North Carolina near Cashiers I would check it out! Reservations are a recommended. MAC'S GAP QUAIL Char-grilled bacon wrapped boneless quail breast served with creamy risotto, baby kale and finished with a molases glaze. First time to The Orchard during Memorial Day weekend with friends and we will certainly be back. Service was great!!

Food was excellent, atmosphere very unique, service was so so. The server just seemed tired and "over it" for the night -- we had a 7:15pm reservation. Our party included a birthday which was mentioned in the reservation as well as to the server to no avail...not even offering dessert at the end of the meal. Everyone has an off night so will chalk it up as that. Would return for the Orchard Chicken for sure...to die for. read more

My best friend, who also happens to be my wife, had the stuffed chicken breast and could not stop commenting about how great it was. It came with mashed potatoes, green beans and stewed apples. She actually said it was the best meal she had ever had. And that is coming from a great cook! I had the special ribeye which was delicious and perfectly cooked medium rare just as I had ordered. Our server was excellent, the trout dry, the crab soup incredibly bland, the quail app to die for, and the overall experience a zero. I made reservations for our 20th anniversary dinner (and indicated such) there weeks in advance even though it was late April and was not needed as was evidenced by our arrival at 7:30 to a restaurant less than 50% occupied. We were put in a tiny wooden room right next to a table with 2 couples including one gentleman with a booming voice. It was beyond distracting. Their conversation was in our laps. And it ruined the anticipated experience for us. The man seating us acknowledged it was our anniversary. But he seated us at what was the worst table. I know because I got up and looked around. There were many, many other options. I didn't expect the best seat in the house but I didn't expect to be so close to a table that we were forced to listen to their conversation all night. It was overwhelming. It's ignorance. I would like to ask the man who seated us if you were going to a nice restaurant for your anniversary is that where you would want to sit? Seriously?? Where is your head man? We're not ever coming back because that kind of stupidity and lack of thought for the customer experience in a fine dining establishment is quite disconcerting. read more

The food is fantastic, and the attention to detail, in the cuisine is how it is supposed to be done. The pork, and black eyed pea Soup we had was so good; reminded me of my childhood, and my Dad's savory recipe. The Caesar Salad , was literally the classic interpretation, with Anchovies, lemon and olive oil, and was perfect. The Mussels, were my favorite way, with Butter, lemon, and Capers, and the best for dipping great toasted Baguette in ! The sautéed Trout, and Shrimp and Grits were both marvelous. We ordered the specials, for some reason the waitress felt a need to notify us of the price, I'm not sure how I felt about that. Additionally for a restaurant that serves a 54.00 special in the middle of the week they should have a polished wait staff. The meal was rushed. My girlfriends fish was fishy smelling so she only ate a bite the over attentive wait staff didn't ask if anything was wrong? We will go back to the place it is quaint and my meal was very good. If management reads this a little training and observation would go a long way I improving the overall experience read more

This was a really solid restaurant in Cashiers. We came here for a 75th birthday dinner while in Cashiers last weekend. Everything was excellent. This restaurant is very picturesque and it has a sophisticated menu. I would describe it as a "Mountain-Fancy" restaurant. The only reason it loses a star is the quail appetizer is TINY. It's like half of a quail. Not even enough to get the stomach juices flowing! Also, the overall price-point might be a tad high for the atmosphere and food. Overall, excellent restaurant. read more

There certainly could be a larger portion of veggies. The cheese biscuit is very good but it's the size of a half dollar. Suggestion is to add twice as much veggies, add another biscuit or make the single biscuit larger. The blueberry cobbler was amazing. They are practicing COVID-19 safety protocols.
