You might think that with 38 years of riding road bikes and 35 years on mountain bikes and having worked in a bike store for several years, that I might know something about getting a bike to fit right. But there was plenty that I learned from my road bike and mountain bike fit sessions with Erik. My riding position on my road bike now feels like it did when I was much more limber back in the 90s. After 4 months of riding in my new road bike position, the slight back pain that I had been experiencing is now completely gone. Also, some parts of my pedal stroke that I thought were not fixable such as my left foot rotating in and out during different parts of my pedal stroke were completely resolved with a repositioning of my pedal cleats. Fitting especially with road bikes is as much of an art as it is a science. I originally set my seat height and setback in the early 90s. With age, I've moved my handlebars higher and shortened my stem length. However, in doing so, I learned in my bike fit session with Erik that making the cockpit length too short can actually exacerbate back pain since too short of a reach can cause roundness of the back. Erik lengthened out my back position and it is now flat again. It's quite amazing that without any change in my stem or handlebar, that my riding position now feels SO much more comfortable. I will note that you may need to try out different handlebars, stem lengths & saddles to make your fit perfect. Corpore Sano is stocked like a bike shop with handlebars, stems and saddles to be able to experiment with these variables as part of a bike fit. The only caveat is make sure to schedule early if you need a bike fit or schedule your bike fit during the off-season. read more

This is THE place to get a bike fit in the Seattle area. They do take many insurance plans. Another advantage of seeing a PT rather than getting fit at a bike store is that the PT is not trying to sell you stuff. I saw Kari but my understanding is that Erik (the owner and who I understand to be the most sought-after bike fitter) and Beth are also great. While I was there, there was a woman who had travelled from Olympia for a fit if that tells you anything. I picked to see Kari because I've historically had problems with mansplaining in bike settings, so I figured it would be easier just to have a woman do my bike fit. I was not disappointed. I felt that my concerns and complaints about my bike were heard and addressed effectively. I also felt that I was able to learn some of the general principles of what to look for in a bike fit, which is helpful for future bike-purchasing ventures. I do recommend scheduling a follow-up visit; I came back for a quick 20 minute appointment after about a month of riding on my initial fit; this got my 15 year old road bike from "98% amazing" to "100% perfect". I rode STP after this and the day after I finished I woke up and felt that I could have easily ridden another 50 miles. I was so pleased that I later brought my other 3 bikes in for fitting as well. There are now very few things in life I recommend as strongly as getting a proper bike fit to my cycling friends. Logistical notes: they fill up fast in the spring and eventually schedule like 6-8 weeks out at peak. In the winter though you can get an appts within the week. I'll update this if something changes. As it stands, their receptionist told me to figure out the charges. I was made to believe my visit would be fully covered, perhaps as preventative, but who knows with insurance -- but it was just charged as a regular appointment and not fully covered. So while I had a good experience with my therapist, it's a shame that it ended with an unexpected and expensive bill. read more

Erik is a lovely, calm, caring, intuitive PT who I highly recommend. I came to Erik looking for ideas for a better saddle, and maybe a few adjustments since I had been suffering 6 months from one injury after another on a new bike. The bike had been fit for me professionally by a PT in Seattle, and re-fitted by another PT that I was seeing for my injuries, so I didn't anticipate any major changes. I'm a beginner and I was hesitant to do the bike fitting since my bike is not an expensive one. But some folks recommended this place since the insurance covers it. I was really impressed by Erik and his assistant! They were really professional and measured and discussed so many things I wasn't even aware. I had several pain in my hands, knees and feet and the bike fitting really helped me to not feel that much pain. Hopefully when I get to the next level and buy a more pro bike I'm definitely going back there to do another bike fitting. I and my husband got back into biking and were highly recommended by friends to get our bikes fitted by Erik. While my husband found a significant difference in his comfort while biking long distance (he did the STP shortly thereafter), I still have to take my bike out, as I just got my bike fitted. But my bike did feel a lot more comfortable on the short ride I took afterward. Erik is a great guy. He listens to your expectations from your bike and your near future plans for your biking and makes small tweaks that make a big difference. He doesn't try to sell you additional parts and emphasizes on real road time with your bike. I was warned about the bitchy receptionist, and I warn the others in turn. Be prepared to meet a sullen and positively un-positive receptionist who growls for no reason. But be assured that once you get past her, you will receive great service :) read more

I rode Obliteride (the century route) two weeks ago, with soreness in both knees by miles 30 and a debilitating sharp pain in the left knee by mile 95. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to ride ~200 miles in RSVP 6 days later. I had a fitting done with Scott the day before the ride, and it was absolutely night-and-day. More power (particularly in the climbs) zero knee pain, and no numbness in my hands. And unlike some witchdoctor fitters out there who rely on instinct, Scott supported his decisions with easy-to-understand math. Two absolute thumbs up for Corpore Sano and Scott. These "bike fitters" are charlatans. They'll charge you over $200 for a "bike fit" that is nothing more than moving a saddle up a few mm and telling you to do some stretches at home. Their bike fits are nothing like a true professional fit -- they don't examine body positioning and centering on the bike, they do nothing for cleat positioning, and they employ thoroughly discredited pseudo-scientific measurements such as the old "knee over pedal spindle" one using a string and weight. That tells you nothing other than what a string looks like when it hangs in front of your knee, but the charlatans at Corpore Sano try to tell their customers it is an important metric, though they're incapable of explaining why. Save your money for a real bike fit by someone properly trained in using data-based fitting systems. read more

So, I've had two PT visits with Erik in 10 years. During them he adjusts my bicycle for me. He is very methodical. He approaches each adjustment one at a time, and builds on the previous decision. At the end he makes an overall assessment. He educates as he goes. By he end I understand what he's done and why. He also helps me adjust my form. What's great about a visit to Corpore Sano is the staff love their jobs and they are knowledgeable. Their enthusiasm helps me look forward to better fitness. There are some places you wished you had never gone. Corpore Sano Physical Theraphy is the one place that changed my life. As a serious, but older cyclist that had a bit of knee discomfort, I was told to go to Erik. He lowered my saddle, put my cleats way back on my bike shoes, and sent me off. The result was discomfort in my shins. I returned and he told me that I was getting compartment syndrome, but did not try to readjust my bike. I was pedaling with one leg. He told me to get a trainer. It did not help. Result compartment syndrome, surgery, and a leg that will never be normal. He is not a responsible or caring physical therapist, but using that profession to charge $250/ hour for a bit of irresponsible tweaking. read more

Although I reside 300 miles from Corpore Sano Physical Therapy, Erik spent a good part of his day helping my wife to understand the source of her pain as well as a prudent course of action. If you are looking for a physical therapist who cares about his patients, I highly recommend Erik Moen. I had heard of Erik Moen through Cascade Bike Club when I was looking for a bike fit a few years ago but went another direction. Everything I heard about him was good, but for specific reasons I went elsewhere. Fast forward to now. I had been experiencing some significant foot pain while cycling and hiking and went to my Orthopedic doc who diagnosed as Morton's Neuroma. I got a prescription for PT and this time decided to give Erik a try. I'm glad I did. His style and demeanor are very much to my preference. He was able help with my bike fit (minor adjustments), got me into some good insoles, and gave me some tips on what to work on physically. 2 appointments and a month later things have turned around pretty dramatically. I went to Corpora Sano to get my new bike setup, I had recived very high recommendations for a few local cycling teams. The whole process was super personable and thorough and took about 1 1/2 hours to complete. They first take you through a pre-fit interview and flexibility assessment to gauge where you're at and to see what problems might exist that will need to be taken into consideration. You may not even be aware of some of the problems. In the end my bike position didn't change very much but it felt substantially more comfortable. I initially set my bike up based on feel and what I'm accustomed to. I don't to have a very forgiving body and was surprised what a millimetre here and there did, these little adjustments made a big difference. There are many different fitting techniques and theories out there. My opinion is that there's a way to set someone up to look like a pro, and there are other ways that don't make the rider look so good. I feel comfort should be the top priority , but there's a certain amount of panache that needs to be incorporated into a bike fit. Happy Rider!! read more

Corpore Sano is the only place I recommend for bike fits and physical therapy. All the bike fits that I have had from Erik address all my physical limitations and injuries and have allowed me to continue riding my bike. Erik's bike fits have allowed me to continue riding my bike after a hip resurfacing operation, a back operation and 2 fracture vertebrae's from work injuries. I've also been a physical therapy patient and Erik has helped me manage chronic pain, recover from both operations and the 2 fractured vertebrae's allowing me to go back to work and ride my bike without pain.
