We found this place totally by happenstance, and so glad we did…read more So it's the 4th of July 2023 on our way to Fort Casey. With a little time on our hands we drive into Anacortes since we've never really been there, only passing through to catch the ferry. Realizing it's the 4th, we happen to catch the tail end of the Anacortes 4th of July Parade. At this point it's around if not after lunch time. Well with crowds and traffic we go on a walk-about in search of food and not more than a klick from our position we find this nice little lot by the marina with some food trailers. Choices, choices, choices, those being Chinese food, BBQ and Gourmet Hot Dogs. First choice was the dogs, but the line was a little long for us. So we went with BBQ...again glad we did. It was a bit of wait, since it had just opened not to long ago, some folks already waiting and one person doing food prep, cooking, taking orders and running the till, he mentioned waiting for someone else so help was on the way, but he did great, and the wait wasn't that bad. So for lunch we had one beef brisket sammy, two pulled pork sammys, one topped with coleslaw and with other with mac-n-cheese and beans on the side. First the sides, both probably one of the best I've had, no seriously. I'm not a real big mac-n-cheese guy, but this one was damn tasty. I love that I could tasted the cheese and it was not weak in flavor. I thought it was as good as if not better than that one Pike Place Mac-n-Cheese place. Then there was the beans, OMG, those baked beans were no joke...awesome! I so wished I'd gotten more of that. Then the sammys: The brisket was so tender, so juicy with some excellent flavor. Not smothered in BBQ sauce, it was just the perfect amount and tasted so good! The pulled pork sammys were excellent, lotsa pork with the perfect amount of sauce so they complimented each other flavor-wise so it's not all BBQ sauce you taste. Bottom line, some DAMN GOOD BBQ! Some restaurant's idea of BBQ is to take meat and cover/drown it in sauce-ugh. i.e. Applebee's bottomless riblets (only thing going for it is that it is bottomless-but it's nothing more than BBQ sauce with meat texture....I digress). Anyhow, the next time we are passing through, this definitely will be a stop. Surprised not to find it on YELP so I had to add it myself. It was that good! Now hopefully you can support a local small business and get some excellent BBQ too!

Great food, great people. Thanks me back to the hood of my youth…read more If you're looking for southern soul, this is da place. I'll be back.

We went out to Embers in Mission for dinner last night. It took over ownership of Mission Horse…read moreand they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They operate as Mission Horse for breakfast and lunch and it changes to Embers for dinner in the evening. We've gone for breakfast since it changed ownership and breakfast is still good. The dinner was a disaster. We were the only customers there and after our meal I can understand why. I've read other reviews and I concur with their comments. I had 12 chicken wings and a small order of French fries and my husband had the half rack of ribs. I waited over 30 minutes for my order of chicken wings and fries (I think our waitress forgot to put in the order as my husband's food arrived before mine). My husband's 1/2 rack of ribs was the smallest that I've ever seen. The ribs were not very meaty and there were 6 ribs maximum on the order. I would guess that it was on 6 or 8 oz. of meat covered in what tasted like a bottled barbecue sauce. We had to ask for silverware. I had a can of pop and had to ask for a glass to drink it in. She disappeared and never came out with the glass. I went to the kitchen and asked them for a glass. My husband asked for a refill on the coffee and after waiting l0 minutes I got up and started towards the Kitchen to get the coffee. Our waitress finally appeared with the coffee at this time. It's unfortunate because the breakfasts are good but to spend 1 1/2 hrs for dinner at a diner is unacceptable. My husband told our server that we were very disappointed in the level of service and explained that he was not leaving a tip because we received no service. I hate to see what the service would have been like if there were more customers. It is a very small casual restaurant

Food is alright. I like that the don't serve alcohol. Not my favorite place or location.read more

3 out of the 4 of us who went here are vegan. Staff was friendly and helpful about vegan options,…read moreand also apologetic when one didn't know an answer to a question about a menu item & then got the answer for us. We shared the chips & guac which was great. We all had the butternut squash tacos which were so delicious! I had a side of coleslaw which I thought I had to request it to be veganized. The cook happened to come out to the area we were seated & he happily told us the coleslaw is always vegan, using a vegan mayo in the dressing. We thought it was super cool that for being kind of in the middle of nowhere, we found this place and their vegan tacos!!! Nice tequila list too and we all enjoyed a shot. We enjoyed a nice nature adventure in the area and eating here was definitely a plus. I hope they always have their vegan options since because of it, we're more likely to return here again for a future nature adventure with friends.

We've been staying in Glacier all week and knew for sure that we'd have to try Gunners before…read moreheading home. We showed up around 5:30 on a Friday night. We were seated promptly and service was friendly. My first recommendation is to not come here when you're already really hungry because everything on the menu looks absolutely delicious. It's hard to pick something when you have to choose between brisket and tacos and smash burgers. I also appreciated that they had a kids menu for the little guys with a couple different things to choose from that weren't cheese pizza and buttered noodles - they have chicken strips, a sandwich with choice of meat, or a burger with one side for $12. My kids each got the chicken strips and french fries and they were great. They each got two large chicken strips and some very delicious french fries - like the double battered kind. Super good. My eight-year-old son wanted the guac, but my husband and I wanted the queso so we ordered both. I really wish we would have been told that the guac is spicy. It's clearly made with jalapeno, Serrano, or other spicy pepper. The server did know it was for our kid but didn't mention anything and the menu didn't either. Well, he took one bite of it and his mouth was on fire. He was pretty distressed and wouldn't touch any more of it. My husband and I both tasted it after that, and agreed that was indeed quite spicy, and while I love spicy and often purposely seek out spicy foods, it was WAY too spicy for a little kid who wasn't expecting it. I feel like that should be noted on the menu. We were also really looking forward to the queso, but it never came. We let the server know, and she took it off our bill. Our entrées came out while they were $28 each (a $1 upcharge for the burnt ends), the quality was very good. Some of the sides are very heavy on cilantro so if that's not your thing, just be aware of it. The Charro beans are smoky and adding the Carolina barbecue sauce made them perfect. I wanted the Brussels sprouts that were on the menu but they are apparently seasonal and were not available (another bummer for me - I LOVE Brussels) but they had the Elote instead which wasn't on the menu but was seen in Yelp photos. It was interesting and also very good. All in all everything was high-quality and delicious, and I have to say this is the first place that I've been to where every single sauce knocked it out of the park. My favorites were the Carolina Vinegar and the Chipotle BBQ. On top of that, my rosemary lemon drop was perfect. It did start getting a little busier later in the meal, so I had to flag someone down to get more water, but that wasn't a big deal. Gunner's is definitely a good spot in the area. Check their hours because they're not open every day. I will definitely come back here if in the area.
