From the vibe to the wine to the plating, it gave sexy grown-up dinner with a side of culinary flex. We started with the chicken fried snails which were wild in the best way. Crunchy, earthy, and topped with something dark and rich that played well against the mossy breading. Very "if you know, you know" energy. The burrata was perfect. I've been to Corvino many times and am so sad to see them close at the end of the year. I love going here because my husband and I have celebrated many anniversaries here but I will say, the food and service felt like it was different than years past. The service was good but not overly friendly or helpful, plus our last item didn't arrive until much later than the rest of our meal. I went to Corvino to meet up with a friend for apps, drinks, and dinner and it was to die for. I've been to Corvino before but it had been some time so I was excited to get back and try it again. Every dish was phenomenal. We started with drinks, I had the Flamboyance and she had the Touch & Go. Both were incredible - the most perfect refreshing cocktails to start the evening. We then grabbed a few apps: having the Seaweed Donuts, Raw Oysters, and Chicken Fried Snails. For dinner we then had the Shrimp Rice and Black Cod. We devoured it all and it's so nice that they make everything easy to share! Our waiter was incredible - he checked in regularly but also gave us time to chit chat and enjoy each bite. He was incredibly mindful of my dietary restrictions and I couldn't be more grateful! Honestly... I was quite disappointed. But, I'll put a disclaimer and say that I've eaten in a lot of different cities domestically and internationally. We ordered the: burrata, rigatoni, fried chicken, and coconut pavlova. The burrata with meyer lemon was too lemony in my opinion. The balance of flavors was wrong. I love a strong lemon, but when paired with something delicate like burrata, you lose the subtleties in the burrata that are so delicious when respected. The rigatoni was not good. The pasta sauce was watery and bland. Where was the "spicy tomato" or "herb pistou" that described the rigatoni on the menu? I'm okay with a minimalist flavor profile, but I have to at least taste each component somewhat, right? To add salt to the wound, the calamari were tough, reminiscent of rubber-band rings. The fried chicken was probably the best dish of the night, though that's not saying much. It was served almost room temperature, which is not ideal. However, the flavor of the breading and meat was its saving grace. The coconut pavlova tasted of too much artificial coconut extract. Again, the balance of flavors was off. I was hoping for a symphony of textures, and it was rather boring. Overall, for what you're paying, you're better off going elsewhere. Money is so hard to come by these days, and it doesn't pay to go to a restaurant that tries so hard at being new and fresh with a rotating menu when each item hasn't been worked to perfection. read more

This was actually our second time dining here for our anniversary, and the experience was just as memorable as the first. The atmosphere is always so elegant and intimate. I finally came here during their last month of service after multiple recommendations. I had previously gone to their burger spot (ravenous) before it closed inside parlor and loved their burgers. When I came to corvino, the vibe is dramatically different than ravenous. The restaurant is lit with intention to set the mood as a supper club. The staff were quick to seat us to song bird (their concept next door) while we waited for our table. I didn't get much interaction with the wait staff at song bird as they looked very short staffed busy taking orders and making drinks. I got the Julius to drink at songbird and was not the biggest fan of the flavors it brought. We got our table about 30 minutes after our reservation time and had a much better experience with the wait staff once we were seated inside the restaurant. Everything is shareable, so we went ahead and started with the sweet potato, hasbrowns and sour dough loaf with cultured butter. I kept hearing the rave about the fried chicken so I went ahead and got that along with our waitress's recommendation of the rigatoni bolognese. Regardless the dishes that came out were RIDICULOUSLY SMALL. Every single one. $28 for a tiny, TINY bowl of pasta. It was comical, actually. My friends and I couldn't stop laughing because we've seen kid's Mac and cheese at any local restaurant bigger than this pasta. Each one of literally had a bite and it was gone. The seaweed donut had an umami taste that combined so well with the creaminess of the cream with trout roe. Delicious. Another dish I recommend is the Rock Shrimp Toast. It's an English muffin topped with whipped chicken liver, mustard seed, dill, and pickled rock shrimp. It was decadent with so many flavors and textures from the crispiness of the English muffin to the meatiness of the shrimp and the smoothness of the chicken liver mousse. Again, very unique and unlike anything I've tried before. Besides the food, the ambiance is sleek and sophisticated. I enjoyed the music of Brant Jester on the piano. I really am between 3 and 4 stars here, I really don't get the hype about this place besides the experience itself. The inside is gorgeous and there was a live piano player the whole time we ate which was cool. Our waitress was very friendly. To drink, I did the In Bloom which was very good. I had been looking forward to celebrating my birthday here on Sunday, August 24th, as a change from my usual spot at Eddie V's, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. We started with the seaweed doughnuts with roe, which were surprisingly bland, especially given the naturally umami flavor of seaweed. Next, we tried the scallop tostada and shrimp rice. The shrimp rice was enjoyable, though portions were quite small barely enough for a taste per person. The scallop tostada, however, was extremely spicy, and I did not enjoy it. When I asked if we could swap the tostada for another order of shrimp rice, I was told this wasn't possible because each dish is "made to order." While I understand dishes are prepared fresh, I found this policy ridiculous given that all restaurants make food to order. A manager was supposed to address the situation but never approached our table, after watching the waitresses walk past the table for 10-15 minutes. Ultimately, we requested the check and left feeling hungry and underwhelmed. I had dinner at Corvino last night while I was in Kansas City for a conference. Since it was a solo dinner, I decided to sit at the bar, which was comfortable and had a view of the kitchen for a little entertainment. The service was exceptional (the staff member at the bar while I ate my dinner was really friendly, welcoming, and helpful - even recommended some other businesses I could check out while I was in KC). The restaurant is elegant and modern, too. But it's really all about the food, right? And the food was really good. I wanted pretty much everything on the menu, but I tried to stick to a lighter menu since I was eating solo and couldn't share the food I ordered! I tried their seaweed donuts (brioche donuts tossed in seaweed and served with trout roe creme fraiche), a green salad (with bread crumbs, olive, dehydrated ham, and buttermilk vinaigrette), shells (house made pasta with tomato, shrimp, and Parmesan foam), and affogato (with tiramisu semifreddo, madeira, chocolate, and pine nut). Everything was really good. The seaweed donuts were savory and fun; the salad's breadcrumb/dehydrated ham mixture kind of blew my mind; and the pasta was a delicious. There are plenty of new restaurants opening in the KC Metro these days, but in my opinion, Corvino is still the hottest shop on the block. The setting is beautiful, the staff is so helpful, and (most importantly), the menu is interesting and innovative without being pretentious. If it sounds like I love Corvino, it's because I do. If you're trying to decide between The Town Co, the Antler Room, and Corvino, I would say: - Choose Corvino if you have a large party and/or you tend to favor East Asian influences in your New American dishes, with some plays on French and American classics. Think XO sauce, dashi, and yuzu, accompanied by riffs on traditional pastas, fried chicken and burgers, oysters, and ribeye. - The Antler Room is a more intimate setting (not good for parties with 4+ people), and its flavor profile is new American with influences from South Asia, Japan, Italy, and North Africa. Think risotto, lamb shank, miso, shokupan, harissa, raita, daal, pistachios, olives, and very serious pastas. Their dishes tend to seem more deconstructed / avant garde, whereas most of Corvino's offerings are recognizable as stand-alone dishes. - Personally, I'm not a huge fan of The Town Co. because I haven't had a lot of truly great meals there, and the ambiance falls short of both Corvino and the Antler Room, but it can seat parties a bit larger than the Antler Room can, and some people do enjoy this restaurant quite a bit. The flavor profile is new American-French, with some Spanish and Italian notes. Think duck, hollandaise, oregano, shallots, fennel, charred octopus, crudo. It's more traditional and consistent in its menu than the other two options. FIRST TIME TIPS AND TRICKS - Corvino's Supper Club is, in my opinion, the best way to try this restaurant. That way, you can sample what appeals to you from the menu without breaking the bank. - Happy Hour is daily from 4pm to 5:30pm, and everything on the menu is 25% off, with the exception of items over $100. Note that to get the Happy Hour price, your items must be in a certain deadline. Ask your server if you think you're going to cut it close. If you decide to order more items later on, the discount will still apply to items ordered during Happy Hour, but not items ordered after. - I would recommend making a reservation, especially for larger parties, but I wouldn't say you *need* one to get a table on a weekday night - Noise level is low to moderate SAMPLING THE MENU It's difficult to give menu recommendations since the menu changes so frequently, but the staff are excellent at giving recommendations on both food and wine, so don't hesitate to ask them. Here's a rundown of what I ordered on my last visit: Seaweed Donuts - love, absolute classic. It's a savory roll that is so fluffy and pairs well with the creamy, salty trout roe cream. Would recommend to anyone Watermelon - the chips taste like elevated Taki's. I enjoyed the contrast with the lightness and the sweetness of the watermelon against the salty, sour crunch of the chips, but other people in my group didn't love it as much Crispy Pork Ribs - *love* fish sauce caramel, and the pork ribs were perfectly cooked. If this is up your alley, would definitely point you to Waldo Thai as well Corn Agnolotti - really liked the sweetness of the corn here and generally thought it paired well, but wasn't the biggest fan of the mushrooms here. Drawing a comparison to Novel, I wouldn't say Corvino comes out on top, although my boyfriend thinks Novel has more "novel" dishes. Either way, Corvino is definitely a decent small plates/finer dining place in KC. However, I'm struggling to write this review because I don't have any strong impressions of the food, just vague feelings or no memory of the flavors at all. I didn't drink any alcohol so I blame my friends for being such distracting company. Seaweed donuts: Had to try these because they were ranked by the NYT...They seem pretty unique and tasted good, but I don't know if they're worth full price. If you like roe, you'd probably like this. The combination of cream, roe, and decently fluffy donut (like a bigger beignet) worked well. The donut was borderline too much dough, so it was well balanced. I would love the donuts and cream just by themselves. I actually wanted to save the cream and roe for a later dish, but my plate was cleared without my input, which was strange because I'd moved a large amount of cream and roe to my plate specifically. Rock shrimp toast: This was definitely one of my favorites. Gnocchi: This was fine, maybe even good? I can't remember. Whole fried chicken: I thought this wasn't anything notable but the friends I was with marked it as one of their standout dishes. The pickles were good and the accompanying sauce was spicy. Focaccia: This was fine. I can't remember much about the flavor standing out, but I was so hungry by this point. I think it was denser than I would've liked. What a gem in KC. I am in town this weekend for a wedding and staying in crossroads. A suggested this place for dinner. We were able to walk in late Friday night, without a reservation. Let me start out by saying that the restaurant is stunning with its all black/gray interior, a very modern yet minimalistic. They had an amazing live band that night that added to the ambiance. We had reservations for my birthday a few weeks ago (I had stalked the web site into mid-April to get early May reservations). Upon arrival, we had a short wait but were seated soon after. Our server offered both still and sparkling water and refilled it throughout the meal. I was really impressed with the live music! We did not try any drinks since we did the last Boulevard tour right before this and had enough alcohol for the day. For dessert, they gave me a free birthday dessert (dark chocolate sorbet) and we also ordered "milk and cookies" and the horchata ice cream with forbidden black rice, tonka bean, and dulce crunch. This was the first I had heard of this place, and I was taken out for a 10 course tasting paired with wine, and let me tell you, it was an experience for sure. Now, before I get into the food and my take, let me tell you a little bit about the time we had. Very attentive staff without being pushy or any of that stuff you see at lower end establishments. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. My only critique is that they spoke a little too softly sometimes. The ambiance in the tasting room was quiet and cozy. We could hear the jazz in the other room, which was a nice add, honestly. It's a bit nicer, so wear your nice clothes (no, your hoodie isn't nice and jeans are a no-go). Now we get to the food, I'm gonna be as kind as I can cause this was a gift. I tried so many new things, and I gave them each at least a second bite each. I guess it was seafood night for the tasting room, and mushrooms are a part of everything? It's unfortunate that I don't like fish in general cause that was 80% of the ingredients. The rest I admit was my picky palate wasted on the food cause America likes to put sugar in everything And they love their oil, there was enough oil throughout thr evening that they could have supplied the tanks in ww2 Overall, I loved the expiernce, but the food left me wanting and I'm not sure why the price point was as high as it was for the what was served i mean other than the caviar (which is now checked off my bucket list despite me never wanting to check it off ) and the truffles. **I want to start by acknowledging that I've only ever had drinks and dessert at Corvino, so if you're hoping for advice on food, this is not the review for you! ** At this point, I've been to Corvino four times... And each time has been around 9 pm on weekends. I really like the lounge feel of the atmosphere, and I've always been treated really well by everyone when I've gone! Because I've only ever gone for drinks and dessert, I've always sat at the bar, which has been great. From the bar, you get a really good view of the live music on stage (you can check online to see who is playing if you decide to go!). The music has always been an added bonus to the ambiance, and I've loved all the performers! I've had a few desserts, and they are always fine, but I guess I'm more interested in the drinks than the desserts. Last time I went, we got the lemon tart, which was good, but it was a bit small to split with three people, and the ricotta whip was an interesting taste for sure. Now for the drinks: my favorite part. First of all, if you're lucky, you'll come in/get served by Andrew. The man can do no wrong with drinks and is super inventive if you have an idea of what you want but want a surprise. Three of the four times I've gone, he's been serving my area of the bar, and I almost can't help but get a surprise drink from him because I can't wait to see what he comes up with next. That being said, I've also had the old fashioned (good if you are someone who likes those!) and last time I got the Maria Sabia which was a nice combo of tart and a little sweetness, with a bit of sage-y goodness--definitely recommend if you are not a super sweet drink person. Corvino is always a solid choice for dinner in the Crossroads. This time went for a weekday happy hour, which is 25% off menu items from 4-5:30 PM (excluding items more than $100). We sat at the bar and started with drinks, I had the Aquinas, as I'm a gin lover and it was quite tasty with subtle Autumn vibes. For food, we shared several dishes including the famous seafood donuts with trout roe and cream, the perfect amount of ocean to taste. We also shared the house favorite cheeseburger and fries as well as the pumpkin agnolotti. Don't think you can go wrong with choosing any of the menu items. To finish off our meal we ordered the Milk & Cookies dessert, which is so tasty and gives off childhood nostalgia from growing up wanting warm cookies and milk. Service was spot on and ambience of course is beautiful as always in the dark, intimate environment with live music in the background. Go. If there is one place to dine in KC book an evening at Corvino. Both my wife and I can cook and do it well. Many times dining out at "fine dining" establishments I'm like meh.. it's ok but I'd rather have Gus's or Slyman's or some other not expensive but just bloody good food. Corvino is the real deal, totally creative, its own thing and amazeballs good. I wanted to try everything and we did damage to 80% of that menu, all 7 of us loved every dish, not a deviator in the bunch. Service was spot on in every way nothing more needs to be said on that. Okay so this is sure to ruffle some feathers but I can't get onboard with Corvino as the best restaurant in KC. Is it fancy? Yes. Is it interesting? Sure. Is it the best food I've had in this city? not to me. I stopped in about a month ago for a dry January happy hour to sample some mocktails and small plates and catch up with a good friend. From the start the vibe was just off for me. Maybe it was an off night? I walked in and said that I thought my friend had made a reservation to find out that they don't take reservations prior to 6. I looked around, saw that the place was pretty empty and said okay, well there are two of us and the hostess then told me to return at 6. I then had to let her know that well no, we were hoping to dine now, for happy hour. She seemed a bit less confused at this point and then told me I could find myself a seat at the bar. My friend showed up, we started chatting and ordered a few small plates to share, and a few mocktails to try between us. Now, the mocktails were fine. No shade there. I think it's hard to make a great mocktail and they were enjoyable. Now to the real beef I have which is with the famed seaweed donuts. If my memory serves me correctly they were around $20 and you get maybe five beignet style donuts covered in a seawood dust (for lack of better wording here) and a side of roe in a cream sauce. I should probably disclaim that the idea of seawood donuts was not super appealing to me, but the NYT said this was one of the best foods their food editor ever ate so I felt compelled to try it. In my mind if you are ranked the best place to eat and one of your dishes has national acclaim it should be really remarkable. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I thought the donuts just okay. They tasted like the donuts I used to make with my grandma when I was a kid, which granted were delicious, but like they were just standard donuts topped with a fishy flavor and caviar to be fancy. The roe I also didn't really care for. It was alright. After that I was legitimately disappointed but we continued to sample more, like the gnocchi, focaccia, and fries. All were fine, with the focaccia being the best to me. My friend and I thought everything was way over salted and while it was pretty good, nothing stood out to us as being worth the money. I think I'll return, try some cocktails off of their cocktail menu and do a full on dinner with tons of plates at some point to give them another go, but I will warn you if you're like me and you're thinking the seaweed donuts will "wow" you - they probably won't. They will indeed a be a donut, granted a well fried donut, topped with fish dust and caviar. read more

What a night of celebration! Corvino gets a screaming 5-star review in my book! We came to celebrate our anniversary and Corvino staff helped us do just that. They made us feel so worth their time! Eating at Corvino was probably the most creative, unique and ambitious food experience I've had in a very long time. From trout roe to a potato focaccia and seaweed donuts (you read that correctly...) to steak tartare - the variety didn't disappoint. And I'll admit - they had me trying foods I had been too nervous to try in the past. And I'm glad I did! They have live music on Monday-Thursday from 6-9pm. Friday-Saturday from 6-8:30pm it varies from piano to guitar or even a harp. On Friday and Saturday from 9:00-11:30pm, they have whole bands. On Sundays its duos or trios from 6-9pm. We loved the piano music we had! They have some great FAQs on their website, https://corvino.com/faq/, but one of the ways they helped make our culinary experience into a celebration is that my husband arranged ahead of time and brought them a custom decorative cutting board engraved with special moments in our life. They used the cutting board to serve one of our dishes. It definitely took me a moment, but our server did slyly point it out with a "wow, what a beautiful board that is there."
