I thought this would be a very great comeback of this restaurant. However, it was a very disappointment.. The staff was extraordinarily nice, and very pleasant. It can't get a little bit loud, but it's not that loud. You can still have a good conversation with someone else. We got the chai and dessert. There was two types of chai one for regular and one masala chai. There's two big jugs of chai. You will have to pour yourself. It is not hot and we don't know how long it was out in the open. Dessert was basically American. There was no authentic Indian or anything authentic about the café at all with the dessert. Couple hours later had food poisoning from that place and headed to the ER. The chai was not hot. It was very cold and it did not taste correctly, including the masala high as well too. I would not recommend coming to this café at all due to the lack of making chai. We were so excited when we saw that Cosmic Cafe was reopening. Having been to it several times under the previous owner and talking about it numerous times since, about how good the food was, we decided to stop in for lunch today. The overall vibe was the same, we sat outside on the patio because it was a beautiful day and waited.... Eventually the server that sat us came around with water and utensils. Eventually another server came around and took our order. It wasn't that busy for a mid afternoon lunch We ordered the hummus with garlic naan remembering how amazing both were as an appetizer, and it did not disappoint, although we never got the garlic naan it was still very good. I ordered the Cosmic Stir ($14.85) and my husband got the Taco Trinity ($14.50) Cosmic Stir was good, but the portion size was shocking, not in a good way. A very small salad is included, dressing was delish, but not enough. About 1 cup of rice and maybe 6oz of the veggies/tofu stir. My husband got his plate several minutes later and it was the same thing, maybe 1-2 oz of veggies in the tacos, with about a cup of rice and very small salad. I'm sitting here 2 hours later and i'm getting hungry as if I had no lunch. Having just reopened I know they may be working on getting some of the kinks out but the portion size will likely keep us away. read more

I absolutely love it here! This a welcoming, friendly establishment that was a beautiful building and atmosphere, and delicious vegetarian options. Our server checked on us often and was happy to make recommendations on the menu. My friend and I ordered the Buddha's Delight which had a little of everything; vegetable curry, rice, samosa, nan, sauces, and soup. I would definitely recommend this dish if you are hungry. Every inch of the building has thoughtful, gorgeously painted and hand-crafted details. They host music and yoga events as well upstairs. I will definitely be back! Its not very many places in America that are pure vegetarian. This place is kinda Indian with Buddhist vibes and ALL vegetarian, gets me soo excited.... Got a salad for a grab and go, and carrot juice. The salad was soo fresh. Simple ingredients, exotic looking and just soothing your taste buds with mild flavouring. The carrot juice was really good too. Really want to come back here for a sit-down lunch or dinner. Service is fast and ambiance friendly. Maintained pretty neat. read more

I just got to experience it after years of being closed. it is now open with a new owner and friendly management and the food is even better than before. I love love this place. I used to come here 25+ years ago for the vegetarian food and the vibe. I was so disappointed when I move back to the area and saw it was closed. My heart is singing now that it reopened this spring. I was trying to manage my expectations that it wouldn't be the same, but it is! Maybe even better. I seek out eclectic places... I was so utterly happy that Cosmic Cafe reopened! Please note that Apple Maps says they are "permanently closed" but Google Maps says they are open! I wasn't crazy about the samosa, but I love my dish (it had cauliflower and various other veggies on a bed of basmati rice was excellent. My adult son had a sandwich with cheese and various veggies- he thought it was absolutely astounding! He also loved his lassi. Please note the parking is a nightmare, but someone there helped us leave. I suggest getting there before 5ish so you can find parking... It is vegetarian. But it was so nice! A very cool and unique dining experience First off, the decor in this restaurant is genuinely neat. I would not be surprised if "influencers" wanted to do a photo shoot in here. Second, the food is delicious and fresh. What's neat is you receive a variety of different foods so it's basically a mini buffet on a plate! My friend and I were in Dallas staying at the Melrose and we were preparing for a national exam that was only a couple of days away. My friend follows a particular diet in preparation for exams to ensure his mental alertness is at peak performance and a vegetarian restaurant just happened to fit our restrictions. The design of the restaurant is what I imagine everyone in the 60s saw while blending a variety of select herbs and fungi. Circumferentially the outside of the restaurant is a busy menagerie of colors, symbols and pictures, and statues and sculptures. Once you've reached sensory overload and finally make it inside you are sure to find ceiling to floor vibrancy, imagery, and ornate decorations clinging to every inch. With a strong Buddist theme throughout it's truly a celebration of culture. Our server was very friendly and food came out quickly. There were many items on the menu that were naturally gluten free so I didn't have any issues finding some delicious sounding selections. We had the hummus with vegetables which was tasty and for my main I enjoyed the spinach enchiladas. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Definitely a great find and feast for the eyes and the tummy. Also..they have a cat statue randomly in the restaurant dining area, so this place is legit. read more

Food: I've been here once before and I forgot how amazing it is! Cosmic Cafe offers both vegetarian and vegan Indian cuisines, which is exciting. We started with Samosas for appetizers and my God we're they amazing! Perfect flavor, perfect crisp, perfect everything. For my entree I ordered the Buddha's Delight - vegan. It comes with a samosa, curried veggies, lentil soup, and rice. The veggies are SPICY, which I love, but if you don't watch out. The lentil soup was very delicious. My entire experience was perfect. Atmosphere: If you can imagine a hipster Indian restaurant, this is it. There's outdoor seating, as well as indoor seating. The "namaste decor" is very unique and cool. There's live music at night and I believe a yoga studio upstairs. The service is a little slow, which I think is due to the "yoga hipster vibe"; the servers are great though. Noooooomm! This place is definitely a favorite. I live in Austin but come here almost every time I'm in Dallas. I'm a vegetarian so obviously there's a lot for me but my husband and uncle who are most definitively not vegetarian, love Cosmic Café as well. Behind the great food choices, the decor is definitely fun and different - lots of details. One complaint: they don't have coffee. I was really surprised when I arrived here. It looks like a temple from outside. I also liked their interior design/ambiance that gives you a spiritual vibe. They also have a Yoga/Meditation room on the second floor. I ordered take out. I didn't have to wait long to get my order. I had Taco Trinity and Tomato Dreams. They give tacos with black beans(not in the pic), rice, and salad. I loved those. Perfect amount of flavor with all the ingredients I love. I loved tomato soup too. Tangy with flavors of ginger, garlic, and basil. Just the way I love it. I love tomato soup and always have high expectations when I order it. Most places disappoint me but this one didn't. Other things on the menu look delicious too. Will visit again soon to try those. There are very few Vegetarian only restaurants in Dallas. Very delicious vegetarian food! If you like Indian food, you should certainly give this place a try! We started with the hummus palette - highly recommend, as the hummus and nan were so good! We even got an extra side order of nan! I got the spinach enchiladas, and my friend got the taco trinity. Both came with rice, beans, and salad. I liked my enchiladas, but I think the tacos were a little better. Parking is a little cramped, and I would imagine it's hard to find a spot if you visit at peak times. Oak Lawn doesn't have great parking overall, so that's a bummer, but that shouldn't keep you from going to Cosmic Cafe! I've been coming here for more than 20 years, since its Cosmic Cup days! I've seen it though a dozen paint jobs, some menu expansions, and assorted neighborhood changes. It's worth navigating the crappy parking situation for this vegetarian feast. I'm stuck in my ways and still love the hummus (smaller dish than in the past, it seems), with a plate of pillowy naan to accompany it, with the Dharma Bell for entree (stuffed bell pepper with rice, potato and spices blanketed with melted cheese). My dining companion always gets the Buddha's Delight plate, with curried veggies, dal (lentil soup), pappadam (crisp wafer type cracker) and samosa (fried dumpling/pocket). Service is warm but laid back. Come in, let your eyes wander over the murals and statuary, and enjoy the atmosphere along with the food! read more

We enjoyed the Buddha's Delight, Taco Trinity, Green Chow Mein, A Fold in Thyme. Wonderful flavors and textures especially in Buddha's, Tacos and Green Chow Mein. Not a huge amount of food but just right. As another Yelper said, if you want real Indian food, this isn't, but they do have nan, curries and samosa. Food arrives quickly once ordered by a very sweet wait staff. Atmosphere was very lively with people fully engaged in conversation. Maybe it was the soy or dairy chai, but lively just the same. Many other tea bags to choose from. Many desserts are dairy and with gluten - cheesecakes, other cakes - but it seems there are gluten free choices usually. I wish I lived nearby! read more

I am so confused. So, so confused. When searching for vegetarian restaurants in my area, I stumble across this place which seems to have decent ratings. It will catch your eye driving by the Oak Lawn area, with all it's eclectic colors and unique decor. Today I finally stopped in for lunch. First off, the parking situation here sucks. Prepare to get creative with parking and where you leave your car. As I walk in and through the painted door, I didn't have anyone really point me towards a menu or where to order. You will see a counter walking in, so I figured that's where I needed to order. Cool. Prepare to be a tad bit overwhelmed in colors, shelves, Hand of Hamsa decor, Sacred Om symbols, Buddha statues.....THERE IS A LOT GOING ON HERE. The young ladies who work here weren't too helpful either. The menu has some interesting things. Plenty of veggies. Curry. Basmati Rice. More veggies. I opted for the Portabella Trance (portabella mushrooms with nan) - which to my utter horror tasted like mushy/juicy dirt with cream cheese. I am a lover of mushrooms so I was excited for this. No flavor and just huge chunks of extremely over-powering mushrooms. Whatever chip they put on my lunch, I don't know what it was but it was salty and spicy and I never want to taste again. My smoothie was good though. Meh. On the plus side, the yoga studios upstairs are nice. I am told there is free yoga (just tips). So for the Yoga lovers, try it out. Get 'Buddha's Delight'! I noticed that this seemed to be a favorite among the patrons that were placing their orders. You get a little bit of everything with this dish and all of it is good!! Also, the Samosas are bomb!! Mmmmm....now I want some... My husband ordered an entree from the specialty menu (board) which was a mint/pesto pasta thingy...it looked pretty, but the mint was way too overpowering and he actually ended up sending it back and ordering the Buddha's Delight (which he enjoyed). My oldest daughter got the "Tomato Dreams" soup and wasn't a fan, but she's super picky, so I tasted it to see if she was trippin...nah, it definitely wasn't good. I think the ginger killed it for me. So she ordered 2 samosas and had those as dinner. (Parent of the year, I know) All-in-all, it was an okay experience, but we probably won't go back. The food is fresh and light tasting. I got the feeling from this Restuarant that you are eating to enjoy flavors and relax, to enjoy the experience of eating. We ordered the Herban Renewal & Pizza Mystica the vegetables were fresh and flavorful, while the nan was delicious. We loved the the hummingbird cake dessert. It tasted a bit like a frosted banana bread. The frosting was incredible, creamy, soft, cold - the perfect amount of sweet. The atmosphere is a major reason to eat here. The decorations are purposeful and dedicated to the theme of meditation. The amount of detail in every aspect of the Restuarant is incredible. This is a laid back place to eat, if you are stressed out and need to unwind during your lunch hour eat here! If you are planning to have a loud birthday party celebration or an angry cell phone call this is not the place for you. Everything was so calm and relaxing even the servers were soft spoken and efficient yet laid back. The Restuarant was busy but not over packed and there were seats available at any given time. Omg I love this place. Very cute eclectic atmosphere. The service was great. Small beer and wine menu but I need to cut back on drinks the hard stuff so no worries there! Apps came out quick. Must try the samosas they are perfect and the sauces are deadazz bomb. The hummus was interesting but good. Food was delicious and extremely large portions for me. First vegetarian restaurant I've been to and I'm impressed! I got A Fold in Thyme which was very tasty although the portion was a little small because I was still hungry after. My friend got spinach/garbanzo (special of the day) and yellow curry soup, both of which were also very tasty. The menu prices all add up to 9 or 18 interestingly, I'm not sure why. The decor and aesthetic is very unique. In this space, I feel creative and spiritual. Sometimes the decor can feel a bit much but it's also really interesting and different. If you go upstairs, there is a yoga studio (not sure if used anymore) and small small library, and you can see a small garden out in the back. I haven't seen a place quite like this. Parking is very difficult in the back unless you're an amazing driver. read more
