I couldn't let this day go by without giving a shoutout to one of my favorite vegan restaurants! Let's start by the vibes!! They are so on point. Everyone is friendly, upbeat and joyful! The music never disappoint AT ALL!!! I recommend them fully to anyone who is vegan and wants authentic Mexican cuisine. I had Chips & Beyond Meat Queso as an appetizer and for my main dish the Birria Brisket and Chili Nachos. My homie had the Crunchy Chimichanga. We also had the Mango Lemonade and Regular Lemonade which is not shown in this video. Review Time!!! Let me say every time I come to Casa Del Vegano I have to get the Chips & Beyond Meat Queso! The flavors are ALWAYS on point. I sometimes have to question myself on if it's really not meat or actual cheese. They have this season on the chips that ignites the flavor even more. We had a good rec for Casa del Vegano, and typically find vegan places have a strong mastery of flavor in their offerings. But, a few aspects of this place keep me from giving a strong rating. The vibe fits the south end of Bishop Arts, having a local hole in the wall quality. It was warm outside and the front is a large open wall, with no enclosed air conditioning. Air is moved with fans, which helped. But, it was quite humid inside and I would have appreciated more relief from the heat. There is an "order here" counter, but also QR codes on the tables that open a web page you can order from. It's weird to me to ask customers *in the store* to go through the hassle of entering credit card, phone number, billing address, etc. into a phone in order to get food brought to a table. I started this process and bailed on it cuz annoying, approaching the register at the counter instead. The staff member behind the counter said, "happy to take your order" and all was fine. Maybe this would be more convenient if I was a regular and there was a long line at the register. We ordered a 6 layer dip, side of Elote, and Birria tacos. The Elote was delicious. The dip was meh, having a top layer that was pureed and reminiscent of a baby food flavor I couldn't put my finger on. The chips provided were bland and obviously store bought, taking away from any impression of in-house freshness. The Birria takes were tasty, though served very hot. The sauce provided tasted like a Chamoy, rather than the red gravy I'm used to. If the dishes were more consistent, order process clearer, and air conditioning better controlled, I'd have scored higher. read more

The stars aligned perfectly to bring us to Casa del Vegano last night. The dark interior and lack of an OPEN sign had us sighing at what we thought was one more miss in the evening, but we found that the door was unlocked and a few people were inside! Ordering can be done at the counter or from a QR code at the table. We didn't know what to expect, since the descriptions were so basic and neither of us are vegans. The only waiter we saw the whole time was really friendly and apologetic about the power outage they were recovering from as we arrived. Shortly after placing our orders, my friend's "beef" nachos came out along with my Portobello tacos, and we were blown away. With every other bite, we'd repeat in disbelief: "Are we SURE that's not real beef?" "How can vegan entrees taste SO good?" "I could be a vegan with more dishes like these!" Let me just say as a pescatarian who follows a majority vegan diet, this is literally my favorite restaurant. You don't even have to be vegan to enjoy this food. The service whether dining in or ordering to go is always immaculate. The ambience and vibe is everything if I could eat here three times a week I would. We came to this place after it was featured on NBC news. It is a Vegetarian Tex Mex Place. You have to know upfront that it is located on Jefferson and parking is terrible. Uber if you have a chance. Also, the wait staff is minimal. You order on your phone and then the food is brought out. I would not recommend this place for larger parties. It is a dark space with neon lights and music playing in the background. It has a club hipster vibe to it. They do have some tasty vegetarian dishes. We had the Vegan Shrimp Tacos, Surfside Tacos with Beyond Meat, Fried Elotes, Soft Shell Crab Tacos, Texican Pizza, Papusas, Bean and Portabello Nachos, Black Bean Flautas, and The Frozen Habiscus Margarita. All of it was tasty considering it was meat substitute. The flavors were rich. The atmosphere is kinda like a dive, the wait staff is minimal, and the food is tasty. I am thrilled for a pure vegan restaurant and I want to come back. But do not - and I am pretty turned off by this- do not charge me a service fee to implement technology that creates a business process improvement that saves you money. That is just wrong. You order using a cloud platform (and a bad one at that) so you have very little interaction with staff and no room for errors thus reducing wait service and rework. Also, you make your own water refills and get your cutlery as well as condiments. So it's poor management to implement a service fee to pay for this tech. The food was good. Except the rice - which was white not mexican- was oddly crunchy. The 'chicken' chimichangas were the best. The taco dragon rolls are highly creative. All four of us enjoyed the food. The room is super dark. The community condiments are unclean and not wiped down so gross. The community water jugs were not refilled. As someone who loves vegan and vegetarian food, I love finding restaurants that are 100% plant based. It's so exciting! This spot DID NOT DISAPPOINT. That said, this spot would be easily enjoyed by any carnivore - none of the food would be "weird" or "unfamiliar" to someone who is skeptical about vegetarian/vegan cuisine. Not only was our server such a friendly, fun, and welcoming person, he was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and talked us through all his personal recommendations and other popular items. The food was BANGIN. Everything we ate. In hindsight, I don't think I would order chips & guac in the same meal as nachos, bc that was too many chips lol, but it was all delicious. We started with the chips & guac and then finished with a "beef" chimichanga made with tempeh and the birria "brisket" nachos made with jackfruit. I loved the presentation, the garnishes, the flavors, and the portions were pretty huge. The vibe of the restaurant was also great. The interior is a moody, boho haven filled with the scents of cumin, cilantro, limes, and other delightful aromatics. My only complaint - and this is really nitpicking - would be that the jackfruit meals were lacking a bit in protein, as jackfruit just doesn't have as much protein as tofu, tempeh, soy curls, or other plant-based meat substitutes. Very minimal contact with employees, you seat yourself, scan the app, pay for food at your table ( or register) and then your food is brought out. It's almost criminal how much was left because I couldn't eat it all and nachos don't hold well to be reheated later. My issue with this place is the ordering process. The restaurant is clearly set for wait service, but when you come in and seat yourself, then you have to order and pay online. And you kinda have to figure this out on your own because there was no sign about the process and nobody tells you when you enter. The kicker is, because you're ordering and paying online, you pre tip...before you're served? They have staff and I believe they should move to regular wait service. read more

The food was great and I love that this place has nonalcoholic nootropic drinks. However, the service needs to be improved for dine-in. We asked for to-go boxes because the portions were too large for us to finish which we were told we would get. Never arrived. Thus, we had to waste some lovely nachos because we couldn't eat them all and the service couldn't be bothered to get us boxes to take with us. I have been to a few vegan restaurants in several cities. Most of the time the food is usually not great or is not a great representation of the entrees' name. This has been one of the top 5 vegan restaurants I have visited. I came on a Thursday and Friday afternoon. Both times were not busy with only a couple of tables occupied. The service was fine. The only way to order is through a QR code. The host was very helpful with all questions and concerns. First off, the chips and salsa were not delicious and they are a false representation of the food to come. However the entrees I had were very good. They tasted much like the name they were called and the portion sizes were formidable. I don't like impossible or beyond meat. I found that the jack fruit suited some of the dishes very well. I was very impressed with how much vest and flavor was packed into each dish. That savory flavor can be hard to achieve without the use of animal products , but this restaurant succeeded! The chimichanga had a wonderful crunch with a delicious filling. The nachos were a little spicy and amazingly cheesy, creamy, and crunchy. I was not disappointed with the food selections at all. Food was great! I can appreciate a restaurant who strives for good vegan food and was not let down. I had the Fajita Torta & Papas and it was really good. My only complaint is that the menu is a little hard to read when scrolling through your phone and also there wasn't an AC in the restaurant so I was sweating while I was eating. But the good food definitely outweighed both of those and made the experience for me. Service was good also, we had a waiter come and bring our food and offer recommendations. Their food has so much character I can't even remember half of the menu. Very unique vegan items that mimic casual street food. They seem to put a little twist of flavor on each item. If you are feeling confused by the menu they are very welcoming and will help you through the process. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the bartender gave us a whole rundown of each item on the menu, very impressed by their love of food. The inside of the restaurant is very modern but it is still located in the heart of Bishop Arts. So you get the historical vibes walking in but is soon as you're inside you feel like you are in a Tulum tiki bar. Food was great! Service was okay! Decor was nice. Bathroom was horrible. Food: I can't remember everything that was ordered although there are food pictures. I had the Camarones la Diabla. It was probably my first time having vegan shrimp and it wasn't that bad. What was nice was the red chile pepper sauce that spicy and carried the dish. We had fried jalapenos which was pretty good. I think my boy friend at the Birra Beef Tacos Plate and that was probably the best dish out of all that we ordered since it had the beyond beef in its dish. Service: This was an odd situation. We were able to get seated pretty quickly. We had to scan a QR code to order and for some reason it took forever to load. The confusing part is when we were reviewing the menu. It looked like what was available was only a few things. I had to scan it again on my phone and then I could see the rest of the list. Placing the order was fine but since we were in the corner, it was a bit dark AND if you had to tip first before you got service. That was a little bit weird for me. It would be nice to tip after the meal. Bathroom: I went to the ladies room and there was only one stall that had 1 half roll of toilet paper remaining. Each stall was supposed to have double toilet paper. I am so glad that I have been making a habit to look for TP before sitting down because I would have been stuck in stall forever.... without my phone to ask for help. As I was washing my hands, I let the next guests know which stall to go to and alerted the waiter that there is desperate need of toilet paper in the women's bathroom.
