My husband and I hosted our rehersal dinner on the top floor of The Mayor's House on a Sunday evening in April, with a final guest count of 75--and it was truly perfect. We initially discovered the restaurant back in January when we dined there and immediately fell in love with the food, service, and atmosphere. That same night, we inquired about hosting a larger event (around 80 guests) and secured our April date with a deposit. From the very beginning, working with Jenna, the manager, was seamless. We communicated though text, which made planning easy and stress-free. Jenna curated a limited menu for our guests featuring popular dishes she personally recommended--chicken, beef, lamb, and vegetarian options--which made ordering simple while still offering great variety. She was also incredibly flexible with seating arrangements and accommodated exactly how I wanted guests placed. One detail I especially appreciated was her willingness to honor special requests--she arranged for a tres leches cake from a local bakery for dessert, which was a huge hit. On the day of the event, Jenna met me an hour early so I could set up extra decorations like flowers, a banner, and place cards. That extra time made a big difference and helped everything feel personal and organized. As guests arrived, we had them go directly to their assigned seats--which I highly recommend for a group this size, as it fills up quickly. The staff immediately began service with starters (hummus, salad, and bread), and they were quick to take both food and drink orders. Everything came out promptly, and the service throughout the evening was incredibly attentive and responsive. Every single guest had something positive to say about their meal and dessert, which says a lot when hosting a group this large. After dinner, the staff cleared tables efficiently, and we were able to enjoy the balcony space--an absolute highlight. It provided the perfect backdrop for photos with family, overlooking the Dallas skyline. When ask for another, we were told that we could share one, even though each side came with. Two of our guests ordered the same entree, and they brought them out on one plate. Had a nice time here with family on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is in an historic two story house in the Bishop Arts District. Service started out a little spotty because of the wobbly table we were seated at. Ten minutes later there was this whole shuffling around of tables and chairs and transference of our whole party and all of our belongings to another area. Everyone endured and we got on to the food. I rarely order appetizers, but I got the cigar borek. They made for an enjoyable snack while waiting on my beyti special. The bread that was brought out was somewhat flat on flavor and needed just a little bit of salt. The beyti special was delicious. The lamb had a great flavor to it. The yogurt sauce added very little to the entree but kept it from being dry. The tomato salad was just fine. I got to try the fried cauliflower and it was well seasoned. It's tasty but best eaten when hot. We took home their pistachio cheesecake out of curiosity and love of cheesecake. It turned out to be really good. The restaurant is barely 4 stars on a curve and more like 3.8. I would go back to try a couple of other dishes though. read more

Cocktail, Wine, Beer, & Hookah menus provided. Slight menu variations from what is online. We went before attending an event in Victory Park - took 12 minutes to get there during rush hour. Dress code - I didn't read it fully but there was sign by entry door - believe they called it smart casual or something like that (I remember seeing no workout clothes). My wishes for menu: offer a soup (at least during winter) offer a hot cocktail (during winter) List sauces on menu, especially if will be drizzled on top of the food When delivering food, they also brought complementary BREAD with a couple of olives and lebnah topped with red pepper flakes. The bread was good and appreciated. Our favorite food was CIGAR BOREK ($10.35). Four phyllo dough stuffed with feta cheese and rolled. served with a yogurt dip with a hint of garlic. I could eat these weekly! FRIED CAULIFLOWER ($13.46) - good but not best I've had. Large portion. Menu says chimichurri sauce but there was hardly any at the bottom of the bowl. There was also tahini at the bottom which was good. There is a red pepper type sauce drizzled on top of the cauliflower that is a tad spicy so if you don't prefer that, I'd ask for it on side or without. KOFTE ($24.84) - Four flat "meatballs" served with rice & what they call a tomato salad. The meatballs had good flavor but were overcooked and dry. Rice was good. Tomato salad had zero flavor (other than lettuce with a bite or parsley when you get a leaf). It is basic sliced romaine, a couple parsley leaves, couple diced tomatoes, few carrot shred. Lightly tossed in olive oil. No seasoning. Dish is overpriced based on what we got this night. They will bring dessert tray if you want to check out the selections. I sat inside but the patio was very pretty and lively at night. Additional bonuses for me were the number of vegetarian options offered on the menu and how late they stay open! I ordered a drink that had lychee and pineapple and it was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. It wasn't very strong but it was absolutely delicious. The kale salad was fantastic. I ordered a dish that had white beans, boiled egg and tomatoes and it was incredible. I also got a spinach feta dish that ended up just being flatbread pizza, which isn't what I expected - but it was good! However.. the service, while very friendly, was disrespectfully slow. It took the waitress almost 25 minutes to check on me after I ordered my first course. She checked on every other table in the section multiple times before even making eye contact with me so I could wave her down and order the rest of my food. I also noticed the table next to me wait an extended amount of time just for change back. The rest of the staff seemed to be very attentive so I'm sure this was just a one time occurrence, but it definitely added some frustration to my experience. I planned to order several courses but ended up ordering everything at once (and less than I planned) because I genuinely didn't know when she was going to come back to my table. This is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. It also had a great yogurt sauce. The Ali Nazik had the prefect ratio of meat to eggplant. This is also another must order. The stuffed dates and beet salad were more spinach salads, but still good. We also got the lahmacun, halloumi cheese, and hummus. For dessert we got a chocolate cake, biscoff cake, strawberry mousse dessert and tiramisu. The mousse was delicious but the tiramisu went perfectly with the Turkish coffee. The kids loved the chocolate cakes. The building and decor are beautiful and classy. The Mayor's House was formally occupied by George Sergeant, a famous Dallasite who served as the City's Mayor from 1935 to 1937. Mayor Sergeant's career only lasted two years, but "The Mayor's House" by Selda is sure to last far longer. I imagine part of The Mayor's House's longevity is their generous heaps of pita bread. It's unlikely Mrs. George Sergeant was serving Turkish cuisine to guests with the gusto of the current tenants. Not only did our server give us heaps of pita bread, but the food was delicious. And was priced reasonably! A quality that's becoming less common as more and more folks surge into the metroplex. Nora used to provide great Afghan food in North Oak, but with them gone I'd say The Mayor's House is the best option for middle east / middle east adjacent cuisine in the South Dallas area! read more

A little bit overrated... Customer service for take out was a little bit hasty, the order taker was standing next to me to get my order fast, that how it made me feel, I had to rush through menu. And it was not busy inside. My to go order did not look worth $24, and I did not get bread. I think they should provide clarification when offering bread and pita. So I got cold pita instead of hot flat bread. Eggplant salad was delicious! That smoke flavor and tasted better than baba ghanoush. I was in the bar waiting on my order and did not feel welcomed even I tried to chat with the staff. Pretty and cozy ambiance. It was our first time to try Turkish food and he was helpful and patient with all of our questions and really made the experience special. I heard about the Mayor's House from a friend and wanted to give it a try. We got there right at opening on a Sunday and were greeted warmly and seated right away. We started with the Beet Salad which was tasty with huge chunks of Feta in it. The Turkish bread was amazing! Served hot and fresh and is a truly special item for a bread service. We ordered a flatbread and Cauliflower from the "small" plates menu, but heads up the plates are not that small! We definitely could have gotten by with just one but it was a treat to try all the different flavors. We also had the Special which had very flavorful lamb wraps served along side Parsley salad and Rice. We enjoyed everything about the meal and hope to be back soon. We typically go to the Selda in Addison and love the food. Have been to the Mayors house by Selda location twice and can confidently say that we will never come back again. The service was slow and the food was decent but there are FLIES inside the restaurant EVERYWHERE! Bring your own swatter because they will be coming for your food! Also, they no longer serve their signature bean salad as a side with the entrees. Instead, they serve a sad looking salad with bitter dressing. I will stick to the Addison location! read more

Sadly had some of the worst service ever here. Our server, Lindsey, basically forgot about us the whole night. We had to continually flag down people because Lindsey wouldn't even glance at our table. When we were finally able to get someone to come to us after an hour of waiting for food, Lindsey then came up and said "why didn't you tell me you hadn't gotten your food yet" like that isn't her job in the first place. We were a party of 8 and had made reservations a few days in advance. Unfortunately, we didn't get the outdoor lounge seating as hoped it was a busy Saturday evening. We were seated on the patio. Since it's summer, just be aware there may be bugs buzzing around, especially if you're wearing perfume or lotion! They have hookah, but there's no actual menu for it so just ask for a flavor. We went with blueberry and mint, and it was okay. We also had a few beers, Prosecco, and cocktails which were decent. We ordered a few appetizers, which were pricey (we didn't mind at first), but when they arrived, we were seriously disappointed. The garlic shrimp was $16 and came with literally five tiny pieces swimming in butter or oil. The spicy ezme just tasted like straight red pepper. The biggest letdown was the "soujouk lollipop" we asked what is it and were told it was like a lollipop (didn't know it was sausage) but it turned out to be five slices of sausage on sticks over kale. We actually thought it was a joke at first. It felt like everything came in sets of five. Five small shrimp, five sausage slices, five bites of disappointment. My first visit at this Selda location. Because I had high expectations due to the kitchen at their North Dallas location there were items I expected on the menu that wasn't there. Like the filet mignons cubes, kunafe. The setting was indeed wonderful. We had a large party and we asked for starters and salads that were coming out nonstop. So much food, which was wonderful, that could have still fed an additional 20 people. By the time the starters were done we were mostly full for dinner. Which for me personally, I have to maintain a protein minimum so I never got there because of the overwhelming starters and then they didn't have the dish I usually get at their other location. They had wonderful desserts. We had like 5 different cakes come out but no Kunafe which to us is the main reason for Selda. Service was wonderful, had nonstop servers take care of us. Drinks were too strong for my taste so I passed mine on to someone else and just went with Turkish tea. The house is super cute with a bunch of smaller rooms, makes it more intimate. One room is suitable for a small dinner party with a bar. So really it was a 4.5 for me. The .5 lacking is the Beef Filet sheesh and the Kunafe. I did enjoy the ambiance and the restaurant but going forward I'll be patronizing their North Dallas location which gets a solid 5 STARS from me. read more

The ambience of the restaurant transports you in time and the original house gives the restaurant individual spaces for groups like ours. We ordered a lot of dishes from the menu and sampled them family style. Wine and cocktail options are great and the restaurant has a full service bar in terms of food. It was very hard to pick a favorite some of the dishes that I truly savored are : stuffed dates, grilled eggplant, salad, beef seesh and fried cauliflower. For an entrée, most of us chose to have the Beyti Special which was exquisite. The dessert platter that they showcase makes you wanna try all the desserts for sure. Our table got almost one of each and tried them family style again. Service at the restaurant was another clear winner. Irem took care of our table and was outstanding. Came with my Greek friend to eat Turkish food and while we had a great time the thoughts on the food was mixed. There's plenty of parking, at the site and around it, and upon entering we were seated immediately. The customer service we received was fantastic and our waitress was very attentive! For appetizers we ordered - garlic shrimp, halloumi cheese, stuffed dates, and cheese pide. I thoroughly enjoyed the garlic shrimp (the chili flakes gave a nice kick) and halloumi cheese with the fig marmalade was a nice addition - eating this with the homemade bread made for a delicious bite! I expected the dates to come out warm (but it is something I can see myself replicating as the flavors were there). I would have liked the pide to be a little more flavorful- extra oregano, garlic - but it was full of cheese so it made for a decent flatbread. For mains we ordered, chicken shish and salmon. I did have the salmon with rice and tomato salad. The chicken shish was flavorful and cooked nicely. I did enjoy the salmon and the mustard sauce gave it a nice touch. We did have to add salt and pepper to the meal but overall I liked it. We ended with a Turkish style pistachio cheesecake and Turkish coffee. The cheesecake was different than what I'm normally used to but enjoyed the flavor from the pistachios. I'm not coffee lover but did enjoy trying something new. Overall, the customer service was great, we tried a variety of dishes (some hits, some misses), and I look forward to eating more Turkish food! read more
