Pedicure was solid with cleanup and brief massage. The space is a bit cramped and has a TV playing music videos on the loop (all catchy top 100 songs). They do offer drinks and wine. However, due to the eclectic and cramped style it's not the most relaxing nail day but you will get very cute nails! Ask about pricing for designs in advance since it wasn't super transparent up front. Can get costly for more complicated items. Be sure to check in at the Ipad when you arrive and you can pick out your colors in the front. So many wonderful options from chrome, glitter, matte and more. read more

So let's start out with how I am glad I didn't settle on a nail salon today! This is my first trip to a nail salon in the area and I went to 2 places before coming here, one where I had an appt set, and walked right out! Those other places were not up to par on hygiene. Moving ONNNNNNN! I like this place! It's cute, clean and the employees are pretty nice! I had a Cosmo Pedicure and it involved a classic pedi service, scrub, HOT STONE massage (yes, like how sway?), and some lovely warm lotion. They seem to have a sanitizer for their tools, I think they sanitize then wrap them in a sterile package afterwards. I appreciate the effort to keep this place up to par on hygiene! I noticed they use the plastic tub liners for your pedicure, which is the EXACT reason I left the other 2 salons today! They also use a brand new buffer and pumice bar. Had a gel pedi with Molly recently! I loved my experience here. The girls are fun to talk to and their studio is so cute. I am really disappointed with how my experience here went. I've lived in dc for 4 years and have never found a great manicure experience. After polling some friends, a few suggested I come to cosmo beauty bar. Firstly, I called to schedule an appointment they suggested I text them and with the date and time I wanted to come in. On the day of my appointment I show up at the time we had confirmed and I was not helped for an hour. They claimed that when I made my appointment I was told I'd have to wait a while bc the nail tech I wanted had other clients. I showed them the text I received showing that was never communicated. I liked my initial manicure although it felt rushed. 3 days later my SNS dip nails are chipping left and right when this is supposed to last at least 3-4 weeks. I'm now on vacation and so disappointed with how my nails look and I can't get them fixed. read more

I have been here about six times... the last few have been unpleasant so I am no longer going here. I was told to make appointments and not just show up for a manicure. I did that and when I showed up, I was told to come back in an hour because they were busy. That's after ubering across town to honor my appt time. They did not make it up to me (as promised) when I returned after waiting an hour at a coffee shop nearby. Apparently they know how to take reservations, but not how to honor them. The next manicure the tech got the red SNS powder all over my hands and didn't attempt to clean them or let me wash at any point. I walked out with red fingers (can only imagine what chemicals were on my skin). The photos are from the last visit (the third visit I'm writing about now). The powder cracked in a bizarre way on all fingers of both hands. I didn't go back and get it redone because they don't have a track record of doing great work or providing a great experience. I found a new place. Yea Cosmo plays music videos and offers drinks, but it's not worth it. Also, after six SNS manicures ($300), there was no reward despite enrolling in the system. I would give this place a 4.5!! It's amazing and the people do a wonderful job with EVERY SINGLE design I have ever shown them. (I've lived in DC 6 years and religiously get my nails done once a month so I can confirm I recommend this place). However, you need a reservation because often times you have to wait a long time. It was my first time at this nail salon and I am very impressed with the service I got today. I made an appointment before coming in and I was in a little bit of a time crunch. The staff was running behind but somehow they were able to get my nails done ASAP. One of the nail techs, I think her name is YoYo, overheard that I needed to be out of the salon in 30 minutes and she was able jump into gear and get the job done. She was kind and gave me everything I wanted ( nail extensions, nail color, and shape) in all under 35 minutes. She even made me the exact nail color I wanted even though they were out of that color ! She was a quick problem solver and I appreciated that! Long over due review. While I'm in da mood let's give props where props are due! Yo-yo Molly Jacki just a few of the v. Talented technicians at this v. Convenient north shaw location. The atmosphere is super clean, tight squeeze for anything and everything! Totally worth feeling like a giant in a dollhouse for the perfect set of nails. Most of the time I get a good stretch of time with my full set. I'm extremely harsh on my hands, but I need them to look perfect all the time. Personal choice. Sunday I visited my fav nail shop to get my nails done before I left for vacation. I made an appt for a gel mani and a regular pedi. Both went great as expected, b/c this is a shop a patronize all the time. I've been looking for a nail spot to be loyal to for some time now and although I have a few close contenders, today, Cosmo exceeded my expectations. I went to Cosmo after my hair appointment at Salon Revive (bonus: it is RIGHT ACROSS the street) around 10:45am and there was only one other person in there. I was greeted promptly by Hannah who ended up doing my nails. I went to pick a color for my gel mani/regular pedi and I was pleased to find that they had aligned the polishes on the wall in an extremely organize manner. In front of each gel polish was the regular version of that polish and they have labeled them with matching numbers as well so if one wasn't put back where it belongs, you can still find it! I have never seen this before. I rarely match my toes and nails for the very reason that it's difficult to find the regular version of the gel that I choose or visa versa. Maybe it's just me, but I was really impressed by this. Lots of colors to choose from in OPI,Essie, gel, CNEveryone had a fairly friendly demeanor. The place is clean and well decorated, although when it got busier around 11:45, it did start to get pretty cramped and difficult to navigate. But,it's DC. The tv played mainstream pop music videos, which I loved. A nice change from CNN. Water, coffee,tea, champagne, wine were all available at your request. Comfortable massage chairs, sanitary tools. My girl Hannah was cute, pleasant and METICULOUS. I am so grateful. I do my nails myself, so I hate when I get them done and the girl doesn't do my nails any better than I could have. But Hannah came THROUGH. She was intentional about the shape and length that I requested and really took her time. I will be requesting her when I return. This is my new spot. read more

I advise that you don't go here if you're black, they will treat you like you like an inconvenience and do a poor job. They cut my cuticles after they finished my acrylics, and painted on my skin to hide the mistakes they made. The pedicure as you can see in the picture was done poorly and there are obvious mistakes. I wasn't offered a drink but all the other customers were, and my nail broke a week later. It was not a great experience and it was a high price point for what I received. read more

I had three negative experiences at Cosmo and will not return. Most recently I got an SNS manicure and as someone who has been getting SNS exclusively for 3 years I'm very familiar with the price and process. This was the most expensive SNS manicure I've ever gotten and ultimately within 1 week 2 nails had come off and within 2 weeks 7 nails had come off. I stopped by after week 1 to ask them to redo the two nails that came off and they said they could fix it if I came back in 2 hours. In addition to the negative score for the product and customer service their shop has terrible ventilation and smells strongly of nail polish chemicals. I will not be returning and don't recommend others do as there are better nail salons in the area. read more

Some of you may or may not already know but Cosmo now has a second location. Surprisingly, finding parking here is much easier than the location in Adam's Morgan. I love the decor of the beauty bar and although it's a little more narrow and can get packed easily, I still don't feel uncomfortable while being there. I always come here for the SNS. I haven't had anyone do this better than YoYo! She's awesome. She's super attentive to your nails/hands, listens to your requests and also gives good advice. Did I mention she's funny as heck?! Lol, I'm always crying from laughing too much. They have a huge selection of different colors and brands to choose from. I like how they offer complimentary drinks such as tea, water and wine. Molly is amazing and is great at bringing and duplicating a picture to your nails. Yoyo the manager is great too! Chill personality and usually has a joke or two! She tries her best to make sure every person is set beforehand for their nail technician. If there's a delay she's the one to jump in to get my nails started so I'm not waiting long on a busy day or she just does my nails which she's good at. This is a different experience than the past for me because the pre set up. If you have a design in mind you text the manager Yoyo. When i arrive i choose the colors I have in mind. I like the polish set up. The nail polish is in front and the similar color is behind making it easier to choose a color. The downside would be the wait times which in my experience haven't been too bad maybe 30 mins or longer even with an appointment at times. Gives me time to read a book. The nail technicians are cool and funny. It's a very laid back chill vibe there with good much and laughs. They do not rush which I appreciate a lot. Another con is although there's social distancing in the small space it is a tight space. The nails are okay but I asked for coffin and these are square. The nails are different lengths and just look bulky. Beyond that, the workers were rude and condescending. They put cuticle oil and a hot towel on my hands but not my friends who they were primarily being rude to (she is Black). Just felt very weird and off. After my friend was obviously upset after being treated differently, the store owner said she needed a hug and a kiss to get over her "attitude and mood". I will not be going back again. I went to get a gel pedicure two days ago and can't stop staring at my toes because they did such a great job. They allow credit card tip but do prefer cash. The other women around seemed nice but the woman who did my nails was not friendly, rushed the entire service, and when I went to pay she said it starts at $60 but I got charged $65 even though I got the shortest length and one solid color. The whole time she couldn't tell me what the difference between gelx and acrylic is. When I told her it burned under the uv light and asked why she just laughed and laughed. One name. Melanie. She hooked me all the way up. I am VERY particular about my nails, to say the least. I check for perfection and usually get on most nail technicians nerves. When I say I had zero complaints with Melanie, I mean ZERO. I couldn't believe it. She enjoys making nails look perfect. I had SNS done, her specialty, and I won't be going to anyone else from now on. Clean salon, hot stone massage was included in my pedicure, wine and champagne. This place was awesome. I found the technicians to be really rough with my nails. The tech who asked me what shape I wanted snapped at me when I said square, but asked her to round the edges so they weren't sharp. the end product is only ok. The sign in process is confusing. I made an appointment by phone and waited 30 minutes with my hands in a bowl of straight acetone before anyone helped me. I don't care about all that as long as it lasts - so we'll see! read more

I came to this salon based on the reviews and location. I ignored the few reviews about Gel polish chipping the next day because this has never happened to me before. Unfortunately, after my first visit to this salon my OPI gel nail polish chipped the next day on two fingers. I get this color 'Funny Bunny' all the time. I'm not sure if it was the nail techs technique or the actual polish itself but I went in to get it fixed a couple days later and I over heard another client with the same issue. The place is cute but a tad cramped. They definitely packed a good amount into such a small space. They have a really good selection of colors with OPI and Essie. Yoyo greeted me and asked if I was the caller for the 9:30pm appt. She was finishing up someone else's nails but got me situated for my pedicure. She offered me a glass of wine, tea or water and I definitely took the wine. My pedicure was not rushed and the massage chairs were nice. I liked that they used personalized buffers and cuticle sticks. They were having an opening special so I got a mani with long-lasting polish too. I loved the results. The second time I visited during the week and called ahead for an appointment. They were busier this time with more technicians. I had to wait just a tad but still experience excellent service. A male did my pedicure (Henry?) and he was friendly. He also took his time and really paid attention to detail.
