Came here Saturday for a manicure with no appointment, was seen within 10 mins even though the shop was packed. This was the best manicure I've had in years - maybe ever! The technicians were very friendly and chatty and up for fun design suggestions - I didn't know what I wanted when I came in but the idea for a cherry blossom nail popped into my head and they rolled with it after I quickly googled an example. I've never been given the "baby almond" nail shape option for a gel mani and it is perfect. My fingers look elegant and feminine. Loved this! Worth the money. Plus free pretty decent rosé! Not happy :( See attached picture of what I asked for versus what I got. I showed the technician the picture and asked for the same shape and style of French tip. He decided to do whatever he wanted. A waste of $62.00. I am highly upset and offended. You'll also notice that the tips are clear which I did NOT ask for. They also shaved off too much of the sidewall, nor did they create an apex curve with the acrylic so my nails look flat, unnatural and even flare up a bit. read more

Cosmo is a great, no nonsense spot in NW DC to get your nails done. I've been there a few times now and each time I've been able to be seen within minutes of calling or arriving without calling ahead. It's a cute spot, converted row home into commercial business. They do a good job of making the most of their space without feeling too cramped. The energy is good there- they have music videos playing and they offer their customers wine or water. The first few times I got basic manicures and they lasted almost as long as a gel manicures, and the service only cost me $18. Totally worth it. While I usually get basic services, it's clear the nail techs can pull off more complex services (just from peering over my shoulder). Most importantly, they are super efficient, never there for more than 45 mins (again, I only get basic or gel manicures). Would recommend to a friend that is looking for a regular nail spot. read more

Seriously, can we implement a zero star option? I came to Cosmo after searching for a nail salon close to work, instead of going to my normal place. I come in and let the woman in the front know that I would like to soak off my dip powder, cut down my natural nails, and get a full set. I'm eventually told to sit at the end of the table and a man (I didn't get his name) begins to drill away my dip powder. I flinch a few times and tell him that he is drilling too deep. Normally, a tech would change the drill tip or speed or the technique to stop the discomfort. Nope, not this guy. He proceeds to continue, even after I pull back my hand and remind him that he is drilling too deep and hitting my nail bed and not the powder. He ignores me and proceeds to tell me to soak my fingers. The burning was unbearable and I immediately explain to him that they can't soak in the acetone because they are burning now. He gets rude, seems like he doesn't understand my issue or pain, so I KINDLY request that someone else remove the powder and have him just do the set. He says "fine, you'll just wait then." He starts speaking in his native language to the ladies in the front and I proceed to explain what's going on so that the issue is accurately communicated. Their tone and "just sit here" implies that I'm being difficult in requesting someone who WILL LISTEN WHEN I EXPRESS DISCOMFORT to remove the powder. This is when I get upset, still not rude to either workers. I contemplate leaving but he has already drilled one hand and I at least want the rest off, not intending to get the rest of the service. If they're this rude in the beginning I'm sure the whole process would've been terrible. Mistake on my part, I should have left at that moment. One of the women (I didn't get anyone's name but she has a short tapered cut and another with a short bob) tells me that he didn't drill too deep, the drill was just hot and I was uncomfortable and that my nails are fine. How do you tell a customer with burning and sensitive fingers that they're not feeling what they're feeling. No apologies. Just "you're wrong, he's right". She tells me to go ahead and soak my fingers and I say I'll wait until they're no longer sensitive and she says they're fine. They weren't and my fingers again begin to burn. The pain was so bad I immediately start to cry, partly because of the pain and partly from how rude I'm being treated for expressing discomfort from a service I'm intending to pay and tip for. Still, no apology, no offer for a cold towel (if it was indeed "heat sensitivity" like she said) Nothing. At this point I don't care how crazy my nails look. I pack my things and leave. Again no apology. Just "That's fine. You can go." Why treat new customers, or any customer for that matter, this way? I wasn't irate or rude. I was on the phone at the time with my sister explaining to her what was happening and at no time was disrespectful to the workers. I'll now have to go a day with crazy looking nails to wait for the sensitivity and pain to decrease and go somewhere else tomorrow. Again, where's that zero star option? Unacceptable. read more

I came in at about 6pm on a Friday. I walk in and tell the lady up front I'd like a dip powder manicure. She points me to the colors. I spend ~6 min picking a color, for some other lady to tell me I'm not looking at the dip powder colors. She pointed me to a wall with the color samples and after picking ANOTHER color, I'm told I'm looking at the gel polish. Took 3 different people to point me to the right polish samples.... and the lady said "you should've asked." The first thing I did was ask where the dip powder colors were.... My manicure is nice but Wendy clipped my cuticles quite a few times. The dip powder is $45 here, I usually pay $40 including a tip - so it's a bit overpriced. The customer service isn't great and it wasn't the best manicure I've received. I probably won't return. read more

Moved here to DC and am soooo happy to have found this place!! Not many places do gel builder (sometimes called hard gel) which I'm addicted to. So this was my first time coming to this nail salon and I LOVED IT!! The employees were extremely nice and I was taken care of immediately upon entering. I decided to get my nails done and I normally go for Gel full sets because they're just overall better in my opinion. YoYo did my nails and let me just say, she did her thing! They offered me something to drink and took care of my nails even before the design! I knew I was going to be satisfied when I enjoyed how my nails looked after she applied the gel coat. This place is great. I've been there a few times now with a local lady friend, usually the only dude there...and I'm always made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The establishment is both pleasing to the eye, and the senses, with popping modern decor, plush massage recliners and deep foot basins. This is my go to spot for nails and toes for sure!! I love Yoyo & Mollie and how they do such a detailed job in whatever I'm getting done, a pedicure, or gel nails, or SnS! They all seem to take their time with clients and offer drinks, play good music, and have many variety of colors to choose from. I've noticed a lot of times sitting there getting my own nails done that some clients have walked in and expect to get service right away. If you are a walk-in client, understand that they are trying to service everyone but it may take some time. People complain about waiting BUT they are also NOT making an appointment. You may see an employee sitting there "doing nothing" but they may be waiting on a appointment. I don't like waiting either but sometimes they are super busy and backed up. Their kindness makes up for the wait. It's all about communication and being patient. Good work takes time. And they are a busy salon for a reason! This is the best dip powder manicure I've ever gotten, hands down. Two and a half weeks later, my nails are still flawless (obviously other than the growth). Pedicure is on point also. I am a loyal customer but after the rude treatment I had today, I highly doubt I will ever be back there. I came into the shop and told the ladies I had powder and on acrylic and I was told unless I was doing powder again, I would need to get a full set. A lady came to cut my nails and soak off the powder and then proceeded to work on someone else. After an hour, I told someone I had been waiting an hour and I understood they were starting to get busy but so many people had come and gone that I began to get impatient. They kept telling me that it takes a really long time to get acrylic off and that's why I was waiting an hour. First of all, it has never taken an hour for my to get acrylic off. Regardless, I still waited and after 45 minutes I told them I was ready to go and needed someone to do my nails. After 2 hours of waiting, someone (who was VERY rude) came and ATTEMPTED to take my nails off. I asked her how much it would cost if I got my nails fully off because after waiting two hours, I wasn't going to wait any longer and going to pay $40+ for a fill with the treatment I received. She said it would be $10. At that point I was willing to pay that for them to just get me out of there. A few minutes later, she has me wash my hands and go to pay but when I got to pay, I recognize she didn't even take all of the nails off. Since the lady knew she did even a half ass job, she just had me leave. I'm so irritated because I'm faithfully there overspending my money (the are WAY TOO OVERPRICED) to get treated terribly! They generally do a good job but don't get there for good service in terms of how they treat customers. I'm mad I wasted my time there because my nails looked 100% better before I even went in! Please go somewhere else you will be treated with kindness. *UPDATE: I thought I posted this review months ago but it never submitted. Months later... I have been back twice and each time was a bad experience. I am officially cleansed of this place. Nails are crooked and some look like they have been growing out for 2 weeks because they weren't properly placed at the cuticle line. Cut my cuticle with the nail drill too. Randomly found this place after an intense day of stress and walked out feeling whole again.. the toughest part is just finding parking, sooooo be prepared to either metro, uber, or scooter there because lawdddd parking is scarce.. I was a walk in and they were busy so the 15/20 minute wait was to be expected.. it gave me time to sneak peaks at all the work that was happening. To the right of me, Yolanda was working some creativity on her client hands and I was just in awe.. there was some jewel action and chrome action and stripes.. it was a lot but the nails were dope.. to the left of me Molly was dishing out some quality design for client who clearly was a regular and trusted her so I think it was safe to say I felt like I was gonna walk out looking better than my anxiety lead me in with. I came in for a SNS dip manicure and was super disappointed in the quality of the manicure. It was essentially just a polish change as they didn't trim my cuticles and only filed my nails down upon request. I've had a lot of dip manicures before and I noticed the nail tech followed a different process and skipped steps, such as having me wash my hands after applying the powder, so in the end I had hardened powder on my cuticles, skin, and build up underneath the nail. The supplies she used looked super old and poor quality so the final product didn't cover my full nails and wasn't very shiny at all. read more

I used to come here all the time for SNS/dip nails and normally they do a good job but today was just terrible. I came in 15 min early for my appointment to soak my nails off and they didn't even start my nails until an hour and a half after my appointment time. So that's an hour and 45 min of waiting for someone to start. She didn't start until I basically almost walked out. And on top of that, The work was extremely sloppy because she was rushing to start the next person after making me wait. Do not come here on a Saturday or even at all if you have things to do because for nails and a pedicure I was here for over 4 hours on a weekend. I arrived here 1pm with a appointment and was still in the salon at 3pm and the with nothing done to my hands. When I mentioned to the lady about the amount of time the was spent and no service provided she has a issue as if I was in her way or irritating her. When she finally began my hands after a hour and 30 minutes of begin there the work was a mess. The lines were not straight and they are terrible with the work. Ok let me preface this by saying that yes, they give a solid SNS manicure. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and was pleased with their work. However, when I attempted to go back, I had a bad experience. They list their Saturday hours as 9:30 AM - 10 PM. I made an appointment for a manicure at 10 AM and got an email confirming my appointment. Showed up a little before 10 AM. The shop wasn't open yet. Waited for around 25 minutes and still no one was there to open. I tried calling them and no one picked up. There wasn't even an option to leave a voicemail. So I left. Look, if you only want to take walk-ins, that's fine and I can deal with that. But don't give people the option to make appointments if you're just going to blow them off!
