I had my hair colored at Smartstyles in Walmart by the manager. She fried my hair and it was not only orange but striped, 2 different colors of orange with dark brown roots and some areas were left dark brown. She also burned my scalp and caused a allergic reaction. I paid $265 with tip against my better judgement and left with my hair wet. When I got home, my scalp was so itchy, I rinsed it out with just water and it bled all over my white bath robe. I contacted the sister salon Cost cutters and spoke to Cat. She was very pleasant and said that I could come back in in a week to fix it. During that week, I went to 5 different salons and each of them told me that they wouldn't touch my hair because she had stripped my hair and it wouldn't hold anything because of the damage. My hair almost completely virgin hair! Cat gave me the money I paid except the tip back and told me all I had to pay was for the product. She did a conditioning treatment and put on an overall color. Unfortunately, the longer I was there, the more itchy and irritated I got. We cut off about 4 inches of my hair and I asked to speak to her manager. The manager came after she put color on. I was still very itchy and my allergist had recommended that I not get my hair done again and I had told Cat this. Cat had dine everything she could but her hands were tied. The manager chimed in that I should be happy that I should be happy that Cat had put in a pretty color. I couldn't believe my ears. I was supposed to be grateful that they were doing the right thing. Unfortunately, my scalp was yet again so irritated that when I got home, I took a tub and got my hair wet with no shampoo and it did exactly what all of the other stylist had said would happen, it made the water turn a dark purple red because the first gal had stripped my hair so badly that my cuticle was so damaged it wont hold color. When I told the manager that she handled the situation badly, she threatened to call the police on me. I told her I had no intention of paying for them ruining my hair but I would give Cat a tip because she did what she was told. The manager represented the company terribly, like a 5 year old and Cat had to sit by a watch. I hope the other employees don't emulate her example in any way. The state board of cosmetology will get a complaint with pictures. In this case, the pictures, speak volumes. I asked, numerous times to speak to the owner, to no avail. I even told them, that I didn't want to see anyone to get into trouble, just to rectify the problem. WOW! read more

I'm very particular about my hair. I had been going to the same gal in Glendale for over 10 years, but I moved to Prescott two years ago. I really needed to find someone closer. After searching and reading reviews, I thought I'd try Kym at Cost Cutters. She had a lot of great reviews, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. It only costs $14 for a haircut; how could it be good? I went in with a few different photos and asked for a long, textured bob. She confidently started snipping away like Edward Scissorshands, and in no time at all, she was done. For the next few days, I played around with my new style. I used a round brush, hot rollers, curling iron, and twice, nothing at all. To my surprise, I have to admit that I got an amazing haircut for under $20! Kym did such a good job. Went in on Christmas Eve for a haircut. Nobody was in the store and yes they were open. Girl there told me it'd be two hour wait due to a customer who was ahead of me but not at the store yet! When I made an appointment to get my hair colored, I didn't at that time realize that everyone at Cost Cutters had just got their license to do hair. I was guaranteed that everyone knew what they were doing and were professional in what they did. Seeing that I was desperate at the time I thought I'd give it a try. When I walked in their I realized it was just like Super Cuts and even though I had an appointment I still had to wait. Well once I got called up and after talking to the gal that was going to color my hair she made me feel confident that she knew exactly what she was doing. I told her my hair had a tendency to turn orange so she would know what not to do in the coloring process. But any professional would know that people with red undertones in their hair can turn orange if you don't use the right formulas. Well she did everything I didn't want her to do. Well several days later after I washed my hair, it did indeed turn orange. , I immediately called them back to let them know what happened along with the other little things she did that I asked her not to do. I was assured the manager would call me back. I never received a call back. Two weeks later I finally got ahold of the manager and she did offer to re-do my hair but it had to be on her time schedule. I tried to explain my concern about my hair drying out even more especially since I've been disabled with a pain pump for over 10 years nowbut how I wanted so which does has an effect on my hair and it has taken me a long time to get it in the great condition it is in. I tried to ask for someone who has had their license for more than 6mo. only for her to tell me that all her people are professional. She kept talking over me and assumed I used the worst shampoo possible because she went on to say that if I don't use or buy their shampoo's that of course my hair will be dry. It didn't matter what I said. She just didn't want to hear it. I just finally told her I felt she wasn't listening to me or cared about the customer, that her main concern was her people so I wouldn't be coming back. I'm sure this place is great for the ordinary Joe, but for people who might have any kind of issues whatsoever other that the normal wash, dry, cut and set I don't recommend. I never had these problems in California. People knew what they were doing. I don't understand what the problem is out here in Prescott. read more

I come from CA - the land of good hair. And I really wanted to give a good review here, because I had read good reviews - which is why I chose to go to Cost Cutters... But I can't. The outcome of my hair was absolutely not what I was going for or even expected. I explained I did not want chunky, streaky highlights, but that I wanted natural, blended ones in a Sandy blonde. My highlights are what are considered "highlights gone bad." They are yellow, blunt and streaky. I also explained that I wanted a nice slightly angled "lob," and where I wanted it cut. It's much shorter than I asked for and has no angle to it, in fact it is chucky and weird in the back, with no angle whatsoever. This took time out of my day with my family, cost a small fortune and was one of the worst hair jobs I have had. Guess what I am doing today? My hair - myself. Thanks Sally's Beauty. I think what needs to happen is that the stylists need to be highly trained in hair painting as well as undergo many, many hours of practice and even certification before they are allowed to use color on their clients hair. I will not be returning and I will not be recommending this salon to anyone I know. read more

I usually go to Great Clips but figured I would give Cost Cutters a try. I used their online check in for a twelve o'clock appt. When I arrived at ten till I was told only a few minutes. She said that there are three cutters so won't be long. After her and one of the other cutters were done with their customers, both disappeared. It's now ten minutes after my appt time and just one cutter with a customer. I started wondering what the heck. At twelve minutes after I stood and started looking towards the back and saw the door propped open. The lone cutter asked me if I had been helped and I said yes that I checked in for my twelve o'clock cut. She said oh let me see where she is. It's now seventeen minutes past. She walked to the back and looked out the door, came back and said she will be here in a few min. The other cutters were behind the store having their smoke break. I gave up and said i'm leaving and the lone cutter just said sorry. Went to my car and checked in with Great Clips. Never ever will I go there again. What a way to run a business. read more
