I had THE BEST experience at Desert Rose Retreat!! I made a last minute appt with them this morning (my original appt at another salon cancelled on me 1 hr before my scheduled appt ). She was able to get me in just a few hours later. She was very upfront about my hair, what I was looking for vs reality, because there's always a disparity. She took the time to really look at my hair and recommended the best course of action. And it turned out beautifully!!! Because I travel around so frequently, the best way to find a stylist is to ask someone who has great hair who they go to. That is how I ended up with Cecilia. She is fabulous! She first sat me down and she asked great questions about my hair, my routine, product usage, likes/dislikes. We talked about what makes a great cut for me. Kate totally saved my hair disaster! After getting a new job I decided it was time to put more care into my look and sought out a professional hair dresser for (what!) the first time in my life. It wasn't Kate. I let a "hairdresser" friend help me out with a color and cut and walked out of there looking like Kelly Clarkson before she was famous. Fantastic local salon! Everyone that works here is genuinely very welcoming and sweet. The salon itself is nicely decorated, with upgraded shampoo chairs. They offer you snacks or a drink upon arrival and do a mini consultation with you to talk about your goals for your hair as well as lifestyle. Cecilia cut my hair exactly as I hoped for. Visiting my mother always requires using Yelp to find good restaurants, services, and this time around we found a gem that didn't have a Yelp review at all. So here's the first one This quaint little hairdressing shop is all about customer service. They're tucked unexpectedly into a residential part of Prescott, not far south of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center's west campus. The building looks like a private home but inside are four styling stations. For us, the magic was finding Julie, who did a wonderful job giving my mother a perm. She'd had very bad results from the salon at Penny's a while back and vowed never to trust them again. (Now, admittedly, this type of perm is much less common than it was years ago, so it's much harder than finding a good haircut.) No web presence for this shop, so plan to talk on the phone to understand what's available (and to run through pricing). For my mom, the perm/cut/comb-out took 90 minutes and cost $75. read more

I am temporarily staying with my parents in Prescott and was long overdue for a haircut due to quarantine. I checked with the salon first, and confirmed that all are wearing masks, sanitizing etc in order to take precautionary measures, which put me at ease. I chose to come to Desert Rose based off of reviews and the look of the cut and color photos--all modern and up to date that would understand a 30yo client. And I chose to book an appointment with Ceci based off of her philosophy of taking a clients hair type into consideration (Although all of the stylists at the salon look equally talented and it was a hard choice to make!). I have fine, thick hair that is naturally wavy and I've never really felt many hairdressers cut my hair in a way that suited me. I got a fairly simple haircut as I don't style my hair and am very low maintenance (I air dry my hair and don't use any tools or styling products other than a leave in conditioner). It was exactly what I wanted and suited my hair type. We didn't do layers, Ceci did an undercut in the back to keep it from looking too dense at the bottom, and texturized the ends of my hair, again to keep it from being too weighted at the bottom. I'm hoping to maybe go back in for a more adventurous haircut or some color, as I know I would be heard and walk out looking my best! I'm also inspired to maybe buy some R+Co products to use regularly, and invest in a curling iron to maybe get better at doing my hair. Highly recommend. read more

I am writing about one hair dresser in particular and her name is Deyon, or Dion (however you spell her name). My mother had gone to her for about two years and every time she came back from getting her hair dyed and highlighted you could tell the highlights weren't even close to the scalp and my mother often complained about how she styled her hair as well. My mother kept going to her because she liked Dion as a friend. In my opinion she was way too expensive and i didnt particularly like the color mixes she would put in my mom's hair because her hair always had an orange undertone. Now getting to MY personal experience with this woman May 2008: two days before my wedding she waxed my eyebrows (I told her to just clean them up and that i dont like them thin) and she not only left me with a TINY line of hair, she also tore my skin so i had a very obvious scab on my face for my wedding. If that weren't bad enough, my mother had already paid her to come to my wedding and fix up mine and my brides maids' hair. I should have seen a red flag when there was hesitation in her voice when i told her how i wanted my hair. All i wanted was a very simple loose braid with loose curls, my husband even could have handled it. That's not the worse of it! After taking my mother's money and promising up and down she'd make it to my wedding and have plenty of time to work on all of our hair, she flakes! Not only does she flake, but she gives 20 mins notice! She said that her daughter had a rodeo and that she had to be there. To my knowledge, she never refunded my mothers' money and stopped taking her calls. Other than that, the other hairdressers did a nice job, the shop was clean and well kept and everyone was friendly. Parking was atrocious. read more
