Jen transformed my hair from drabby box dye pink to gorgeous platinum blonde! She was incredibly accommodating even though it was kind of a difficult request (hair dressers know, removing any kind of red undertone is no fun task). I really appreciated how she took the time to check out my hair before accepting to do my hair. I've had hair dressers who don't know how to do blonde take me on for a quick extra buck. There are good hairstylists and there are great hairstylists. I happened to find a great hairstylists, Robin at Essence Salon. I had a weave, cut, style and extensions. My color is to die for. It's a sultry shade of light blonde with a few wisps of darker blonde. I asked to go a little lighter and Robin was a an expert giving me the perfect color that's good for my skin tone. She cut my hair in a V shaped bob that exquisitely frames my face. She added extensions in the front to give me a little more volume and length. My hair looks fantastic! That was the BEST LUCK ever!! Julie made time for me to come in, even on short notice. I found Jamie quite by accident and I couldn't be more pleased. What a gem! It always makes you a little nervous when you have to find a new stylist but my apprehension was in vain. Jamie is a pro. She really listens to what you tell her and she does an amazing job cutting my hair. And, believe it or not I never have liked my blowout no matter how much I liked my stylist in the past UNTIL Jamie (I know that is probably difficult to believe). I never have to go home and redo my blowout. Amazing. Next hurdle was getting highlights for the first time (I was again, apprehensive). However, again, worry not. I saw the reviews here and thought I would take a chance on a new stylist. I got a killer cut from Natalie, and really enjoyed my time there. She's a fun, personable girl and really gives a great cut. I got an on-trend "LOB" and walked out of there looking fresh, modern and ready for my closeup. It's worth noting that she is great at styling too. I've had good cuts before but never liked the styling, as some stylists go old-school with the curling iron and I end up going home and washing it. I am always nervous getting a hair cut and I told her what I wanted and she was very careful and appropriate when working with my hair. She made sure I like the length and what not. I have been to several salons in Prescott since moving here in 2012 and by far Robin is the best. I wanted my hair cut in a very short style that I had many years ago. My former hairdresser just could not cut my hair the way I wanted even after showing her my picture. I then gave Robin a try. I showed her the picture and viola! Do NOT, under any circumstances, use Maria Cardenas from this salon!!!! She is one of the most rude, unprofessional people I have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with! At my1st consultation she kept me waiting for 35 minutes after they informed her I was there before she casually walked out and was like "oh, hi. It will be a few more minutes". No apology for the delay. Twenty more minutes she finally came and got me. Consultation done, made the appt for 4 weeks out (Oct 7). Two days before she cancelled, no explanation. Just a text saying she can't do my hair. Nothing about a reset of the appt. Text her back. "When can we reschedule for?" No response. Another text from me after 30 min -"hello?" Text from her- "I'm busy working" Okaaay. Why wouldn't you offer another appt at the same time that you're canceling?She finally resets the appt for the next Sat at 3 (Oct 14). At 2:40 as I am on my way, she texts to say she's behind & if I still want to do it fine or we can do Sunday morning. My bad- I thought the text was from someone about trimming trees that I was expecting that day. I get to the salon at 3. We get the text message cleared up. "Can I come back at 4:30?" She has 2 people she's finishing up with. Sure. I can go run a few errands. I'm thinking -"you didn't know early on in the day you were off your schedule?" You waited until 20 minutes before my appt to tell me?" But okay. I'm back at 4:15. Door locked, cars gone. Text message from her AFTER I get back "I just don't feel like doing your hair today because I had a rough day". Are you serious right now??? Yeah. I was just speechless. After I informed her that I had had to put down my dog the morning before and that I STILL showed up, she says that something traumatic happened to her the day before also. Ok, but you did other appointments that day and today. My thought is she decided she had something better to do because when I got there at 3, there was NO indication she was under any kind of stress. She was smiling and looking a little sheepish actually. She knew when she asked me to come back that she was going to leave. Nothing but arrogance & rudeness right from day one. I appreciated her taking the time to determine what I liked and then added her own little touches. What a great style. Made an appointment at this salon for a full highlight and cut. Was planning on getting a graduated bob cut. I usually get my hair cut at Vidal Sassoon in Scottsdale but was tired of driving the two hours. Decided to take a chance and book an appointment with the owner of Essence - Katelynn Reeves. Mistake!! We were discussing color and I showed her a photo of myself from a top salon in Chicago, Illinois (Mario Tricocci). The purpose of the photo was for color - NOT CUT. I explained this to her. The picture was of a "shag" cut from the early nineties. When I showed it to her, I knew the cut was no longer in style. She proceeded to insult the haircut. I couldn't believe how rude and unprofessional she was being. I once again explained I was showing the picture for color ONLY. She continued to insult the "cut". She then actually called her "mommy" in to the room to help her insult the hair cut in the photo. How childish and unprofessional. At that point, I said "This is not going to work" and I left. I'd rather drive two hours than have Katelynn cut or color my hair. Maybe I should have tried one of the other stylists at the salon. They seem to have better reviews. Katelynn Reeves is awesome. Both my color and cut is fantastic, and her work is very consistent...I always leave feeling like my hair is just right. I have gone to her about 6 or 7 times, and each time I have been extremely happy. I have VERY thick and wavy/frizzy hair, and many stylists are challenged by it. Since I have been going to Katelynn I can easily wear it straightened or let it dry curly. I also love it that while I have some grey to be covered, somehow my hair color always looks just like my natural color...very subtle highlights that look like the sun did them. I appreciate that she keeps up on all the newest techniques and continues to educate herself. She is really nice too, and the whole salon is just a very good experience. I appreciate that while she is very busy, she also is very quick to call or text back and works hard to fit me in, although I do suggest booking ahead because she is very popular! read more
