Wine Flight
Jean K.

First wine tasting since Covid and we were lucky enough to have a chance to enjoy live music with our wine flight. Nice servicer explained all the wines. Free flight with purchase of 2 bottles of wine according to the menu. Not sure if we can use the 10% off Yelp offer. Nice relaxed atmosphere

Love the expertise of the wine experts behind the bar.

Always time for wine!!

A little music and some pinot Rose! Oh and 30% off today and Sunday!!! How can you go wrong with that. Nothing fancy but laid back and tasty.

. The solo rojo with Trader Joe lemon bars . Yum yum

Wines were delicious. The solo rojo with Trader Joe lemon bars (and thin mints...(shhh my partner doesn't know I bought more. LOL ) Also really appreciate that the tasting wasn't expensive and was written off if you purchased bottles. #love

Costa de oro is a hidden gem. So glad I stopped by. They have a variety of wines ranging from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, rosé and Cabernet. I tried the tasting flight paired with cheese and very much enjoyed my experience.

It was really fun hanging out here with my friend. We ordered two sets of wine to sample and we also bought a box of cheese and fruit. That was really interesting. I felt that the staff and even the patrons were friendly. I will come back with my family next time.

Spring Fling Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blend. So good.

Great tasting experience & a great value! Got a bottle of Spring Fling. It is so good! The Celebration is also nice. I'm not really into red wines, but the GSB Pinot Noir was nice with pepper & herbal notes, which is what I like in a red. Beautiful view of the vineyard!

Really fun place to relax -- wine down with some good music. Ordered tri tip sandwiches from Cool Hand Luke's next door too. Yummy.

Cannot recommend Wes Hagen and his hospitality at the Ranchos De Ontiveros facility enough. 5+…read morestars! Wes' incredible amount of knowledge, and painstaking explanations (without being boring) of the entire growth, processing, and history of the winemaking and vinting process was nothing short of a wonderful journey into the heart of California winemaking. Like I told Wes when we set out on our tour, I'm no oenophile. I simply know what I like when I taste it. Wes was patient, inquisitive, and not high minded about wine and how and when it can be enjoyed. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness and thoroughness with which he constructed the tasting, and the accompanying culinary pairings. For those considering the tour, the Ranchos De Ontiveros grounds are a little further out there, but you'll be rewarded with the majesty of the Santa Maria valley and the bucolic surrounds which envelop the landscape. Between the setting and the awesome educational experience through Wes, you will undoubtedly feel privileged to have spend a wonderful couple hours in his and the vinyards company.

These guys went above and beyond to show us a good time and were incredibly kind and generous. The wine was spectacular. Most guests bought bottles at the end. The venue was stunning, and we couldn't be more grateful to have had such spectacular hosts.

It's located at the easterly end of town, rather than in the center of town where most of the other wineries are located. Kevin Law, owner/winemaker, is making some of the best wines anywhere in the area. I say this with my usual disclaimer that what my palate loves, yours may not, so check them out for yourselves. Will, the assistant winemaker, happened to be pouring during our recent visit. He's a wonderful host and always takes care of us. We tasted the following: '19 Blanc de Blancs Sparkling (100% Chardonnay), '24 Aligoté (Santa Barbara), '19 Chardonnay (La Rinconada), '22 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills), '21 Pinot Noir (Sanford & Benedict), and a '19 "Derive" Bordeaux blend (48% Napa & 52% Santa Ynez Valley). As usual, we loved everything! I honestly can't tell you what they charge for a tasting, as we've always purchased 6 or more bottles, and they've waived the fee. Now we're Club Members and receive a regular discount all year, with an additional discount the two months they release to club members. I can't recommend these guys enough, as we feel that their wines are some of the best in the area.

Other club you say? Hmmmm, this piqued my interest. If I'm a member here, and they're members here and they're members somewhere else out here, we must have similar taste in wine... I quickly asked where they were headed and wanted to know more. They told us Kenneth Volk and mentioned all of the unique varieties. Only on this occasion, where we had already been down that way tasting and it was getting later in the day but with the opportunity to try so many new places on this passport, we gave it a go! We arrived at Kenneth Volk and right away my boyfriend spotted a familiar face from Rancho Sisquoc. That was lovely! I right away spotted the vegan cinnamon rolls :) We tasted several different wines and honestly, I enjoyed what we had and will return in the near future to taste again at a couple select places that were brand new to us this go around, but with a fresh palate. I'm happy we made it here and had a pleasant experience so we can get them into the rotation next time.

The wines themselves are excellent and easily compete with Santa Maria's other offerings. I tried all of the wines on their tasting flight, and it's nice to see that the college grows so many different varietals. Some of my favorites were the Albariño (bonus points for growing this varietal on site), Chardonnay, 2015 Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Malbec (the only non-estate offering). I ended up taking a bottle of the pinot home. The service is great! We had a first-year student helping us who was very knowledgeable about the wines and the enology and viticulture program at AHC. For reference, this was on August 17 around 3 pm, so whoever that was, major props to you! The current schedule for the Fall 2018 semester is Friday, 2-6, so make sure to stop by if you're in Santa Maria!
