This was our first visit to this rustic tasting room, and we had a nice experience. It was a Friday, right after opening, and we had the whole place to ourselves. The service was friendly, and my wife and I shared a traditional and custom flight. We thought that the wines were decent, some better suited to our palates than others, but well-made, nonetheless. We were fortunate to meet and speak with the owner who happened to be bringing in supplies and got a little more detail on the wines, than we did from our "winerista". He also mentioned that his niece opened a winery in Los Olivos (Story of Soil), which focused on wine styles a little out of our wheelhouse, but we thought we'd give that a try as well, and it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. The place was quiet which makes sense for a weekday. Our server was friendly and helpful. At first...you're driving and you're trying to look for vineyards...and then you're wondering if you are in the right place. You come to this parking lot with a lot of cars, there's a hot dog place and another restaurant and you see Costa De Oro. We went in and they were decked out for Halloween. Shelly was there to greet us and made us feel very welcomed. We did the tasting and this is one of the very rare times where...every single one I had was excellent! So much so that we got a few bottles to go. They don't have food (but wine and cheese pairing) but that's not a problem because you can order from next door and I'm just going to say...wow! Food was great! We loved the ambiance, the customer service was top notch, the wine was DELICIOUS! It reminds me of the show Cheers..."where everybody knows your name" but it makes you feel right at home. We will definitely be back and would HIGHLY recommend! read more

I'm glad we decided to drop by a winery where we're staying for the weekend. This place was less than 5 minutes from our airbnb. We dropped in on our way back from Solvang. Very much worth the stop. We walked in as a musician was singing an Nsync song in the style of Michael Bublé. I was here for all of it. We found the best spot at the bar with the perfect view of the singer. The tasting here was cheaper than over at Solvang. Significantly so. The quality was just as good as the other one we went to. You can't really go wrong with pinot considering it's what the area is known for. Great music, ambiance and company. Lovely place indeed. read more

It's literally right on the highway. The wine was okay. Bordering on expensive for Wednesday type wines. Our tasting room attendant seemed to have zero interest in us and we were the only ones in the tasting room for the entire span of our time there. Lots of cute knick knacks for sale so it gives you something other than the highway to look at while you're tasting. With so many great places around, I'd go as far as to say skip it. read more

Myself and four friends stopped in here on our way to Sonoma just for fun - and to see if their tastings were complimentary. The lady on staff was awe-strikingly rude to us and laughed in our faces about finding anywhere from the Central coast through Napa/Sonoma with complimentary tastings. And supposedly Napa/Sonoma would be 3X as expensive as Costa de Oro's tastings... Ha! Napa/Sonoma tastings were half the cost of Costa de Oro, and much tastier I'm sure. For example, Imagery in Sonoma was $10 a tasting for pretty much any and all of their wines that were available and the wines were spectacular - and the service was too. Another example - Jacuzzi in Sonoma was complimentary and probably always will be - and both the wine and service was outstanding. When it comes down to it, terrible service will leave a bad taste in your mouth that will overshadow any wine no matter how good it is. I highly recommend not wasting your time even pulling off the gas station exit to visit Costa de Oro. read more

The Pinot sampled here is amongst the best in the world. The room is friendly and "Cheers' like. There is a regular crowd that comes in. Roger has his own reserved spot at the bar. Always wanted to visit, so I finally stopped in mid-day on a Sunday. The place is very nice inside, lots of polished hardwood decor, even has room to sit and eat if you like. The lady bartending was loud and pretty obnoxious, but we stuck around, and the wine was wonderful - the Chardonnay & Cabernet Sauvignon especially. Nearly everything on the list would be worth buying if we had the money! Prices range from $20 for the Pinot Rose to $75 for the Dijon Pinot, definitely getting better as they go up. The nicer Pinots in particular have a distinctly earthy element that you don't see often, I might pick one up next time. Still, the experience was rather colored by the ADD bartender, who would constantly spend 5 minutes loudly talking to one couple while ignoring all of the others waiting for another pour, then repeating with the next. Too loud to even hear a polite "excuse me"! She'd be more appropriate at a frat bar, I think... We both had a bit of a headache by the time we bought our wine and left, and were tired from standing around waiting so much. If the wine wasn't this good, I'd probably never go back. There was an excellent 3-piece string ensemble playing. They were just fabulous! I got the 5 tastes for $10, very reasonable. The Costa de Oro estate Pinot noir was fabulous!!!
