First off, they didn't have their steak ready so we had to wait another 20 minutes for it. With the layout, it is reminiscent of Chipotle since you choose from Burrito, enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos, nachos, and salad. Then you choose your meat. And you'd think you get to choose your own add ons but the employees here don't know how their own menu works. Most people make their orders and are just stuck there in line. It was quite inefficient. If that was the case, it make more sense for them to take your order at the cashier and wait for them to call you name instead of having a backed up line. Despite my nacho order supposed to come with a salsa of my choice, they instead told me that I had to pay for the salsa and I had to actively ask them to add the optional items since they tried to skip over that. Also, they wouldn't give me my receipt which I found very odd. I even tried out a cinnamon tortilla and one of their cookies which I felt were both average. These nachos are the most soggy nachos I've ever had. I couldn't use a single nacho to scoop up the ingredients/toppings. I had to use a spoon to basically eat it all which was an experience I've never had before with nachos. Overall, it was not a very good experience. We used to love Costa Vida. It has become reliably disappointing for the past several visits. We always get takeout. We usually try to order on the app to do things efficiently. But consistently when we get there at our pick up time they haven't even started our order. We see plenty of people that come, order newly and go, before we've gotten our order that we ordered long time ago. At least usually we get the right food, even though consistently, we have not gotten such things as sour cream or sauces that were clearly ordered. But this last time we did not get the right food! I did not get my vegetarian gluten-free bowl. Instead, we got a big old burrito! I could not eat because I cannot eat the burrito with wheat and Heaven knows what inside. When I called the restaurant, they said I could come back and get the correct order but at that point, my entire family had eaten and I was just ready to be done with the disappointing experience. I wanted a refund. They could not issue a refund. They told me that someone from the corporate would contact me. On March 27 I received an email that was generic saying someone would contact me. It is April 10 and I have still not been contacted. I've still not been refunded my money and obviously I didn't get to eat that night. My guess is this Business is going out of business soon with this kind of lack of customer support and consistent customer disappointment. Do yourself a favor Mexican food, lovers, and go somewhere else... I'm so sad because it used to be so good. read more

We went to Costa Vida tonight and this was our last time going on a Saturday, and potentially for a while. We walked in to a line almost out the door and noticed the workers were only doing online orders. You would think they would also give focus to the customers who actually showed up in person to order and eat their food. We waited in line for at least half an hour. When it was our turn, the guy asked us what we wanted (mind you he was cussing out loud to himself everytime he got an online order). I told him I wanted two tacos on corn tortillas due to my gluten allergy. He was so aggravated and told everyone to switch their gloves. We could literally hear the workers saying things about me and acting like my allergy is a choice of mine. It is not my fault that I am severely allergic to gluten. You are literally working in a customer service establishment that YOU chose to work in. There was a sweet lady behind us who made me feel much better about the whole thing, and she said their actions and attitudes were uncalled for. I felt extremely embarrassed. When we sat down to eat, my tortillas weren't even warm and they were cold and fell apart in pieces. The sweet pork was extremely fatty and my tacos fell apart. I didn't end up saying anything because their attitudes were so bad and I wanted to be a bigger person and not blow an absolute fuse. It is going to be a long while if we return. We usually love this place but tonight was absolutely dreadful and ridiculous. Please treat your customers with respect. Absolutely love Costa Vida. The employees that work there are usually friendly and helpful as well, especially for I believe he is one of the managers. Their sweet pork is phenomenal and good consistency as well. I also like that their chips and queso come in different sizes, and that they also have a rewards program. Only downfall is that it is definitely more expensive and I feel that it takes a bit longer to get some rewards, but other than that we absolutely love it and come often. I will also add that it definitely sucks that it is closed on Sundays, lol. The vibe of the place and the cool water wall by the line is awesome as well. The food is decent however several of their workers act like they are miserable being there. One of the guys, kept rolling his eyes and exhaling like he was completely put out by helping us. I ordered a salad and nicely asked for sour cream instead of the guacamole that came with it because I don't like guacamole. He slaps a big old scoop of guacamole on the salad. I didn't say anything thinking apparently this guy is having a bad day so when I got to the end, I asked the woman who was checking us out if I could have sour cream because I asked for sour cream and he gave me guacamole. She then turns to him and ask for a small cup of sour cream, he puts a tiny bit of sour cream in a very small cup, and then proceeds to grab a larger cup and comes over and slams it down on top of the guacamole on my salad and scoops it off my salad with the cup. Meanwhile dragging it across the entire top of my salad. It was the tackiest, rudest thing I have experienced in a long time. Apparently there is a shortage of guacamole as I was very capable of getting it off my own salad without dragging it across the top. I mean was he going to pick the cheese, tortilla strips and tomatoes out of it and serve it to another customer. The sad thing is I have ordered alot of catering from costa Vida in the past for work and after this experience, I'm done. Haven't ordered once from them since. I was fine. I went to order and the staff looked at me. I was so confused because I still didn't know who would take my order, it seemed like I was being discriminated against. No seal showing that it has not been touched,no serving trays, the ziplocks had the con of the bag all over them leaving quite the mess. Very disappointing experience. My in laws Ordered food through the app and I was the pickup. We ordered for a 6:30 pickup and food was not ready until after 7:30. I even went home and changed clothes and went back and food was still not ready. The order was for 4 people. Very sad to see this level of service. Especially to see my in laws treated this way. They are seasoned Costa Vida customers who send this location a lot of business. Came here for dinner with some friends today and we enjoyed ourselves. This spot has been recommended by a few friends as everything is made fresh and it is not too pricey. I am glad that we got in the line when we did because there were at least 10 people behind us as we lined up. They definitely needed more people working during this time as the line did not stop. The people working were really nice and seemed to appreciate us being there. It was a constant flow of people coming in and I see why as the food was delicious and fresh. It definitely could've been fresher as parts of the rice were burnt, the pork had a coat of grease on it. It all came together in the end with getting a lightly grilled chicken bowl that got cheese melted on it and then was topped with salsa and lettuce. The bowl was basic, but was light and good. The Wednesday special was a great deal. For $5, you get a huge chile verde burrito, enchilada style, with lettuce and pico de gallo. The burrito itself was filled to the brim with pork, green chile sauce, rice and beans, and when I requested pico de gallo only, they heaped a enormous portion onto my plate. Service, unfortunately, is pretty slow. Despite having what looks to be an army of staff for busy lunchtime, the line still moved at a snail's pace. The waiting area for the line is also uncomfortably warm. If you have limited time for lunch, I probably wouldn't eat here unless you've phoned in an order ahead of time to take out. read more

One of my favorite places around Gilbert! I try not to go here when I'm dieting, unless I want a splurge meal... You can get salads that are very low calorie but they won't taste nearly as good as anything with the (decently high calorie) delicious sweet pork! Honestly, I think that going here and not getting the pork is a waste because it's the brightest highlight of this restaurant chain. I typically get the sweet pork burrito, which last I checked is their most popular entree. Get it smothered with cheese and the medium sauce and it becomes a dish to die for! If burritos aren't your thing, the nachos are also amazing! The chips themselves are just sub par but once they're smothered in meat, queso, and pico they get much better. The sister company to Costa Vida, Cafe Rio, is different in very few ways. Basically the differences lie in the ambiance and feel of the restaurant (Costa is more beach-like in vibe, while Rio is more Mexican-feeling) and that the pork is significantly sweeter at Costa than it is at Rio. For me, there's no competition and I much prefer Costa Vida - though I've heard that you end up loyal to whichever one you visit first. read more

Well, just had to walk out and leave my food on principal. I wanted to try one steak taco and also the sweet pork. I did notice it was a $3.00 up charge for the steak and wondered if I just had one of the combo tacos prepared with steak and the other with the standard pork if would it still be $3.00 extra. It was not a huge deal but if it was $3.00 additional to ad only one steak taco I was just going to order the pork. The young man working at the counter asked the cashier and she said she would just charge me for the shrimp or raspberry chicken which is $1.50 extra. I said sure not problem. After they prepared the tacos and sides she said that she asked the manager and would now be charging for everything ala cart. It was more than $3.00 extra...at this point. I tried to quickly as nicely explain that I only ordered this based on what they told me and she argued with me in front of a very long line. I was not going to hold up a line of people and felt embarressed. It is more the principal of the situation not the money. Just the absolute worst customer service.
