I think I may have found my new favorite chicken sandwich! Having heard great things about Dave's Hot Chicken, today was finally the day that I darkened its doorstep. A rubber chicken sign with its mouth agape greeted me, shining in the sunlight above surrounding storefronts. The restaurant itself had graffitied walls, a refreshing ambience in the common wash of the average establishment. My order was taken by very friendly staff and I was seated. Order then arrived, two delightful sliders both bearing slaw and pickle slices, a side of fries and even more pickle slices. Upon first bite...let's just say the Chick Fil A cow should be ashamed and hide his face forever. Flavor, spice, salt, Dave knows what the hell he's doing! Overall, Dave's was really good! I have visited Dave's Hot Chicken more than once by now. Great place for good chicken that is spicy and they have various grades and I have tried both Medium and Hot and Hot is a tad Hot for me as I found out but might still eat it on occasions. Medium seems like the best medium. Their sliders and tenders are really good and juicy chicken with a lot of meat and good size and usually the combo with a drink comes to around $17 which maybe slightly more than the average chicken places but you are paying for food quality and Dave's Hot chicken quality is very good. I hope they stay just the way they are and not cut corners and reduce their food quality because they easily win out over every other fried chicken restaurant for me for now. read more

The atmosphere was very casual and laid-back, with a lively buzz, varied seating, and both indoor and outdoor options. The service was friendly and efficient, especially considering how busy the place was. Tried the hot chicken -- a nice, solid piece with good crunch and flavor; timing may not have been ideal after just having Hattie B's in Nashville, but it still held its own. With so many options for chicken out there is do I prefer it to the competition? The easy answer is yes. It's a quality piece of chicken breast breaded and fried with a good level of spices and seasoning. It's crispy and juicy with a good salt level and give you the kick of spice you choose. The bun is good as are the crinkle cut fries. The service is friendly and knowledgeable and the kids seem happy to be working there. As for the dining room. It's pretty basic but clean and very casual and comfortable enough like a school cafeteria. You're not going here for a 3 star plus experience. Most people are using the drive thru or taking their meal to go. They are opening much closer to where I live so I will most likely make this a regular stop when looking for a good chicken sandwich. read more

Wanted some fried chicken and my friend told me about this place. I was little disappointed to see that it did not have regular fried chicken, just chicken strips or tender what ever you want to call it. Chicken strips is my least favorite part/style of fried chicken. But I said meh. I'm already here so I'll give it a try. The girl taking my order was very helpful and suggested I order #3, which came with one strip, one slider, and fries. Ordered extra hot since I didn't feel like being in pain later and ordering the hottest. Well I was pleasantly surprised to find out that chicken was yummy. I have to say probably my favorite chicken strip place I have been to. The breading is not too much like one across the street. Had nice crisp and flavor. Extra hot did sneak up me. I've been to Daves a couple times now and I'd say the food is decent. I feel like the chicken itself doesn't really have any flavor to it, instead it's just a lot of cumin, cajun, and other seasonings. The portion of the chicken is sometimes good, somedays you'll get small portions of chicken. I feel like the prices are a little too much considering the food itself doesn't come with a drink. It's like $15+ if you want a 'meal' with a drink. Also it comes with a little container of their sauce that's like half full and if you want more they charge you for it. So if you want chicken tenders and fries I'd definitely say there are better options than this. Other than that I will say the restaurant is very clean, considering they are always so busy. As a vegetarian, the Cauli Slider was the best thing I've eaten in a minute. I was at a Yelp event a few months ago and, as always, I asked everyone what the best thing they've eaten recently is and someone said, the Cauli slider at Dave's. Armando was great and bundled it as a meal to save me money and also offered advice on spice level. My meal was around $17. While we waited on our order, we got to look at the fun graffiti-style art and enjoy the skater/beach vibe. My slider had slaw, sauce, and cheese and was perfect crispy goodness. Medium was warm but not hot--I'd probably bump up to hot next time (I order my Thai food medium as a point of reference). One slider seemed like a lot of food to me--more like a full-sized sandwich. The crinkle cut fries were crispy and well seasoned. All and all, an excellent comfort food experience. Shout out to the manager who checked in. I'd say it was a solid 3.75 stars but I rounded up :) The store was clean and the staff were pleasant. No complaints there at all! I got the #3 Dave's Chicken Slider and Tender (Hot) with fries. The Sliders and Tender were very crispy, which I enjoyed. I'd definitely say the sliders are better than the tenders though, no contest. The "Hot" was kinda mild for me...I think if I go back I'll select the next heat level up (I like it spicy!). The chicken was good though & moist. Fries were crunchy with some sweetness to them. Overall the food was good...didn't blow my socks off but still, I liked what I ate. We went to raising Cane's, which was closed on New Year's Day. Across the street doing a bang up Java business with a long line in their drive-through was Dave's hot chicken across the street my wife and I tried it for the first time and it was amazing. It's a breaded cauliflower patty served on a bun with coleslaw and pickles. It did NOT disappoint. The breading was nice and crispy and the cauliflower was so flavorful. Canes was right across the street, but we decided to try this one instead. I will say they are like sister restaurants. One is sweet and one is salty, spicy just like its names sake. This one has a great taste of chicken. It is spicy even the mild one. I felt my lips burning for a while and the fries has paprika on it so has a kick as well. It is still a really good, tasting meal. A bit pricey at $16 for two tenders on bread and fries, but we enjoyed our visit. Will come again. read more

I finally tried Dave's hot chicken. I couldn't decide on dinner one night and since I was in the area I remembered Dave's Hot Chicken was nearby. I went and the atmosphere is fun, colorful and lively. The cashier was very friendly and helpful with me choosing the level of heat for my chicken tenders. I don't likely overly spicey food so the cashier suggested medium heat. I ordered the 2 chicken tenders with cheese fries and no bread to-go. I got home and the chicken tenders were a nice size. Not too big and not too small. The medium heat was perfect for me. I'm glad I didn't get go any hotter. The chicken and fries were freshly cooked. The chicken was crispy and delicious. This place was pretty good. The service was super quick. We may have just gotten there at the right time but not long after we placed our order we sat down and our food was ready and fresh. Crispy fries and hot juicy chicken. I tried the chicken spices one mild and one hot. The mild didn't really have much spice at all but the hot had some kick. For the chicken I went with a medium heat since it was my 1st time and wasn't sure about the levels yet. And for the fries I upgraded to cheesy fries. Yall I was disappointed., The bun looked like it had seen somethings before being slapped on my sandwiched, compressed, partially hard and wrinkled, the fries although covered in cheese were over fried and just crunchy and bland, no salt, You would think I was ordering at the end of the day or something, but no this was around 1pm on a Thursday. I can say the chicken was cooked nicely and had flavor but ate it bun less cuz who knows what my bun went through. When we arrived, there were a few tables that had customers who were waiting for their food. It took a little while to get our order placed, even though there was one customer ahead of us. I'm not sure why it took so long for their transaction to be completed. It looks like starting from June 1, people have to ask for single use items, such as the cutlery and the ketchup packets. The cutlery and the ketchup packets were in a container at the front near the register and there's a sign on it that said, "starting June 1 people have to ask to acquire these items". I am wondering the reason why, but I did not ask. Maybe people were taking more than one cutlery set per person and too many ketchup packets. We looked for a table to sit at. None of them were clean. I am not sure if the rush had just finished before we got there, but we were there at nearly noon. We managed to locate a semi-clean table and sat there to wait for the food to be ready. After all of the rest of the customers who were already seated at their tables, received their food we were able to pick our food up from the front as well. The chicken strips were a good size and moist on the inside. The fries are pretty good. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There was a coleslaw that was made with kale that was placed on the inside of the chicken sandwich. I couldn't really taste it. There's wasn't much of it. There was a sauce that came with the chicken tender and it was orange, but it tasted like it had mustard in it. The sauce is OK. I don't like mustard, but it was tolerable. The number three, which was a chicken sandwich and a chicken tender on a slice of bread along with french fries was pretty filling. The medium spice level was a good choice. I think if it was any spicier than that, I wouldn't have liked it. The spice made everything salty. I liked the pickle slices because they were vinegar flavored. They were quite salty but went well with the chicken. No music was playing in the restaurant and I liked that. It made it easier to hear when they called my number. So I like chicken. I eat it for most meals and very rarely eat a lot of beef. I say that to say this chicken can be bland and needs to be flavored just right, and Dave's hot chicken has done that. Going to the location we did was a drive but worth it. I live out in Queen Creek area and we drove specifically for this place. You get there it looks like an old restaurant that was converted to make this work. To me that means nothing but I just want to use that as context for people looking for it. The restaurant is very clean and doesn't have a heavy smell of spices which to me was great. The staff is very friendly and very helpful especially for people who have never been there before. I was able to ask about the menu, the items on the menu and how it worked for seasoning. We ordered, I ordered the 1 tender and one slider with fries, with mild sauce. And then everyone else ordered either the 2 tenders plain or the Dave's bites. All with fries. So I was the only one who got sauce. We got our drinks and sat down. Prep was extremely fast which was great because we like our meals hot and not room temp or cold, which this was not. The food came out and we picked it up, typical fast food ordering experience. Then came the eating of it. Now, I'll start with the tenders. My God were they huge. They looked like nuclear chickens had harvested full breast meat. That I thought was awesome and the meat was juice and tasteful and the sauce was on point. Added a little bit of ranch to kinda lighten the flavor but not much. Now I got a slider. And i was expecting a slider like Arby's little tiny chicken strip or a bite and then some sauce on a small bun. Hahahahah I was wrong. They are not sliders, they are fricken chicken sandwiches that they are calling sliders. These things are just the tenders that I mentioned a minute ago on a bun!!! And unfortunately for them I am not a condiment kinda guy, i like the flavor and all the other stuff to me takes away from that. So I got my "slider" (joking using quotes here) plain, but with Cheese. The tender was bigger than the bun and sauced perfect all over and it was just as juicy as the tenders are.
