My boyfriend and I DoorDash on the side and we pick up from here quite often. Every time we have a pick up, the order is ready, the staff is friendly, and the food is packaged well. One afternoon my boyfriend decided to order this for lunch and surprised me with a cheese quesadilla and a side of whole beans. One would think that's a boring lunch but it was SUPER good. Sometimes cheese quesadillas can be bland but whatever cheese they use had a lot of flavor. I could've eaten another for sure. The beans were also really really good. Wow!! I was craving tacos and decided to stop by, and I'm so glad I did. Everything was so delicious and hit every craving perfectly. The horchata was amazing. It was not watered down at all, totally worth the $4.60, and the cup was HUGEEE. The carne asada mulita was incredible, and I highly recommend the carne asada in general. We also tried the cabeza and al pastor, and everything was seriously so freaking good. Service was quick and efficient, and the space is surprisingly large with plenty of seating. Delicious food, felt very authentic to me due to the extra effort. Pictured is the family pack which my friends split 4 ways. They really enjoyed it. They also offer nopales (grilled cactus) tacos which my vegetarian friend ordered. The food came extremely quickly. I got 3 street tacos and a horchata. The horchata was delicious, it tasted like a milkshake. There is a self serve station with 3 types of salsa and toppings. There is chunky pico de gallo looking salsa which was really good by itself, green hot sauce, and a dark red salsa which is very spicy. They also offer cooked (grilled then steamed?) jalapeños. We were in the area and when we searched food near me Tacos Calafia came up! Can't go wrong with tacos!! It's in a good plaza! New location it said, so we decided to try it! Best grilled burrito I have had in a long time. Carne asada was actually tender and the portion was generous. I've been back 4 times (even though I live between TUC & PHX) and it's been very consistent. I usually am a taco kinda person, but I keep getting the burritos for the flavor & value. Also, it never feels like I'm getting old food, if you know what I mean. Theyve got quite a bit of fast food style seating, clean interior and a really nice salsa, onions, etc.. bar. This is their newest location that recently opened in Gilbert. A Phoenix original that has expanded. It's suppose to represent the tastes of Tijuana, Mexico. As growing up near the border in San Diego & crossing over many times to experience the night life and the food, this missed the mark in my opinion. The tacos were average and by no means would you call them "out of this world" good. Also they're really small more like a street taco and the meat could have been more seasoned! The chicken as far as flavor was the best. The nachos were over $11 and disappointing in portion and in taste as well. Generally, (at other mexican places) it's definitely more than enough of a serving for two to share. Not here. The cheese was the canned orange stuff yet the fresh toppings from the salsa bar gave it a boost. Meat was per cooked, then fried and dry! The hot salsa bar was nice. Great inviting station. Many options to chose from including fried jalapeños & sautéed onions. Service is fast and efficient. Restaurant clean Prices were too high for the quantity served. Doubt we'd return. I gave the place a 3 star review but it's more like 3.5. We tried it on a Saturday afternoon, at a bit of a weird time so it was empty except for about two tables. I tried two carne asada tacos, two Cabeza tacos on flour and a Jamaica. Tacos are served without any toppings but there's a toppings bar. It had 3 heat-level salsas, guacamole, onions and cilantro, as well as radish. The radish looked sad so I didn't get any. To me, the toppings were missing pickled onions, pico, and shredded cabbage. Pickled onions are my favorite with tacos. This was the first time I was trying cabeza. The lady at the counter was nice and she offered me a sample prior to ordering. It was very tender and juicy so it was good but as I ate more of it, I felt like I prefer the regular birria meat instead. The carne asada was probably the best I've had in a while. Meat was tender and flavorful. Jamaica was good too. Ambiance can be a little better. Not sure if this is a style they're following but the tables and chairs are mostly folding ones, made it seem like it was a temporary setting. There were some wooden/regular tables and chairs in the back but the majority of them were the folding ones. They have an ice cream freezer which has so many good ice cream flavors. Didn't try any because we were pretty full. Prices are ok. There's a 3% service charge that they add to the bill, no idea why. Overall a good experience and worth a try especially if you enjoy cabeza tacos. read more

Trash... just trash food. Taco Bell would be a way better option. We got chicken & steak tacos, neither were seasoned & the steak had A LOT of fat in it to be cut up in such small pieces. This is a sort of taco bar kinda process only you order the amount of tacos you want & the chef throws some meat on a mediocre tortilla then you put together your own toppings. Couldn't decide how many tacos to get and saw the family pack so I went with that.. 10 tacos 2 cheese quesadilla, 20 oz beans, chips and 2 lrg drinks for $49, which I didn't think it was bad. My wife thought I was crazy ordering all them tacos.. But I was hungry . Salsa bar was nice, I just wish they had some pico de gallo and shredded cabbage.. Oh well.. They did have grilled jalapeño and onion which was nice. Their hot sauce was little spicier than average. Carne asda taco was yummy, grilled chicken was also petty flavorful. Al pastor was also yummy with nice flavor.. One of the better ones I've had. Cabeza I thought was very flavorful and tender. My son and I went today for the first time and we ordered 2 pastor, 1 cabeza, 1 asada taco and a pollo vampiro. We helped ourselves to the salsa bar which is always a great feature and this one was pretty stacked. 4 different salsas, and other topping staples and a bonus grilled onion and jalapeno hot bar. Food came out to the window pretty fast and the woman that was taking orders was busy emptying trash cans so the cook from the back brought me our tacos. The food: pollo and carne asada had good flavor but dry; the cabeza and the al pastor were fire. Definitely the stars on the menu from what we tried. The tacos were a bit undersized for a $3.10 price point. I saw other patrons with tacos and burritos and the tacos were about the same size as ours so they were consistent. Burritos didn't seem to be very large either. My son had horchata and he said it was delicious. If we come back it would be for pastor and cabeza tacos. If they were FAT, we would definitely be back but...meh.. read more

I have a friend in town visiting from Texas and she was in the mood for tacos and after looking up good taco places, we settled on Tacos Calafia. We were not disappointed at all! First observation was how clean the place was! It was bright and open and the counter and all the tables were clean. The salsa bar is amazing, everything looked fresh and clean: The staff was very friendly and explained the menu to us. The tacos were good but the frijoles were amazing! Seriously whoever makes them absolutely knows what they're doing! My only constructive feedback is that they use plastic folding chairs and real chairs would elevate the look and feel of the place. And - my personal peeve though: the flimsy plastic ware. Plastic ware matters - itty bitty flimsy forks, knives and spoons just don't work. read more

I was so excited that a Tacos Calafia was opened next to my home and workplace. When I got there I was really upset that I had to wait 20-25 minutes to order my food. Why? Because the cashier behind the register decided to film for the business page. I have no idea why that was so important to do in that moment. But I digress.
