Service was extremely fast, and the environment felt welcoming from the moment we walked in. I liked that sauce so much that I'd consider going back just to try it on some of their other bbq. I didn't like the brisket birria taco as much because it was way too salty for me. OK, we've been big fans of Caldwell's BBQ for years and somehow had never made it over to Caldwell's Mexi-Q... big mistake on our part--especially since it combines two of my all-time favorite things...brisket and tacos! Parking was a breeze, and since there were three of us (including one never-full teenager ), we went for the Mexi-Q Platter and added an extra birria taco so everyone could try one. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The surprise standout? The brisket tostada--sooooo flavorful and satisfying on every level! I love Caldwell's bbq, this was my first time trying the Tex mex version. I opted for a burrito, the jalapeño popper, and Mexican corn. I loved that the burrito doesn't have any rice, maximizes the protein. All the food was great. But if I'm being honest I think I prefer the classic bbq food. I'm not a huge Tex mex fan, personally preference. But the quality of this place is top notch. Love the outdoor seating, inside can be squishy. read more

Brisket Birria - Easily our favorite. Has a lot of flavor and the consume is key. Wish it had a bit more cheese but overall could've just gotten these and been happy. Brisket Taco - Was a bit dry and salty but the flavor was nice and Smokey. Huge piece of meat too. Chili Verde - also a bit dry, wish it had more chili verde sauce. Smoked Carnitas - I wouldn't get both Chili Verde and Smoked Carnitas they were pretty similar tasting with smoked carnitas even dryer. Could use more toppings or salsa for sure. Mac n cheese - fantastic. Gooey and cheesy, full of flavor. Not too thick or watery, great consistency. Elote - shockingly light. Smokey. A little liquidy but overall good! Banana Pudding - delicious, definitely a must try. Very very strong banana flavor so I was wondering if they add additional flavor because I've never had something taste so banana-y but it was delicious! BBQ Sauces - they offer two delicious bbq sauces complimentary. I highly recommend adding those to the more dry items. Came here with a friend for lunch for the first time. Parking is very limited and the inside is pretty small. When you go in you have to loops around the only large table in there so no one actually sits inside because it's a bit awkward. The line goes by pretty quickly. The cashier also cuts and weighs the meat right at the counter. I should have gotten something more mexi q but the El General Patton was calling my name. It was alot of sandwich for $20. Finally dined here with a friend for dinner on a Tuesday around 6pm. The small parking lot was full, so I ended up parking down the street. The indoor space is also small. There's one large high top inside, and the line was wrapped around it. We waited in line for about 20 minutes, ordered at the counter, then got our food within a few minutes. It felt too warm and muggy inside, so we sat at one of the many tables on the patio. I went in thinking I'd try a burrito, but got three tacos instead so that I could try different meat options - smoked chile verde pork, smoked carnitas pork, and smoked chicken. The chile verde was my favorite - flavorful, tender pork. The chicken was light on flavor - probably won't order that again. I also got a Mexi-Q Twinkie - jalapeño stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, wrapped with bacon. I would definitely order the Twinkie again. My friend got the El General Patton sandwich - it was stacked so high with 1/3 pound of chopped prime brisket, 1/3 pound of pulled pork, and a 1/3 of a sausage link on a Hawaiian roll. Yo, I cannot write enough reviews about how good the barbecue is at this place. Every time we go, we have the best experience and the best food. Service is always on point. The restaurant is a bit small so when you walk in you immediately walk up to the counter and order your food and then you take your tray and find another place to sit. There's a plenty of seating outside, but not as much seating on the inside, so if there's inclement weather, I would definitely be aware of that This time wasn't any different. And this isn't just the place that kicks out really good proteins. they also know their sides as well. The macaroni and cheese is the bomb. We happened to be in Gilbert for an appointment and came across Caldwell County Mexi-Q. I didn't even realize they had this sister restaurant, so we decided to stop and try it out. We ordered the Mexi-Q Twinkie, which is a fresh jalapeño stuffed with brisket and white cream cheese sauce, then they wrap it in bacon and smoked it! They were good, but we both would've preferred if the jalapeño was softer... it was still pretty crunchy. Tried the Mexi-Q for first time today with my kids and was extremely impressed! Being of Mexican descent and from So-Cal my expectations were high. I tried the birria which I normally only like when made the authentic way with goat. I was impressed by the balance and smoothness of the spices. As for sides the mac and cheese was great without being a gut bomb. The elote was spot on flavors of street corn. But the star was the Calabacitas! It reminded me so much of my grandmother's that I took an order home for my kids. WTF???? Just my luck... I find this hidden gem the weekend I'm leaving Arizona. Typical. This place is amazing. Like, "why did no one tackle me and drag me here sooner" amazing. The brisket tacos we smokey,moist,tender and full of flavor. Brisket birriera tacos the same. If I had any complaints, they were borderline salty as was the consome. Chili verde pork was juicy, tender and mouth watering. Smoked carnitas was excellent. Unlike a lot of carnitas you find at a lot of Mexican restaurants, these weren't dry and over cooked. Tender, moist and the smoke on point. The chicken followed suit. Juicy and full of smokey deliciousness. My only real complaint was with the sausage. The texture was a little pasty. Flavor was ok. After looking at the menu we decided to try this fairly new place that featured their smoked meats and we were NOT disappointed. This is a small place with limited indoor counter top seating with the majority of the seating outside and its counter service. We ordered a couple of margaritas, brisket elote, a brisket taco, a birria taco, and two chile verde tacos. The tacos are full size, cooked to order, and full of meat and goodies. After my wife finished her brisket taco she said should have only ordered one taco, then I told her she should try the chile verde taco, and she ended up eating all of it. If I could give 10 stars I would!!! We actually came to Caldwell County "on accident" because another restaurant in the area sat us down and forgot about us. We were thinking of new places to eat and Caldwell Mexi-Q had been on our list for years! We had eaten at both Caldwell County BBQ locations and it was delicious. We were pleasantly impressed with our food here!! I had the chicken and green chili tacos - excellent, flavorful, the right amount of heat, perfect portion. The frozen marg was just okay but a nice way to round out the meal with the banana pudding! The elote was good and the mac n cheese was great!! There's only one table inside - but the outdoor seating was plentiful! It was such a fun date night or get together with friends/family spot. Birria tacos and mexiQ Twinkies! That's all you need to get. Or just play it safe and get the el Patton sandwich i think with the corn casserole. We love Caldwell county. It's probably our fav bbq in the east valley so far. So instead of standing in line at little Miss bbq this is our favorite go to. Esp for the first two items i listed above. They are so good. They do a way better job of mixing mexi and bbq together than little miss bbq does. I remember once we tried little miss bbqs burritos before at the 7th st and Dunlap location and they were absolutely disgusting. Never again. So do yourself a favor and make sure to come check this location out if you want a great combo. read more
