The cost co auto program is well worth the annual membership fee. I was at SouthBay Hyundai talking w/ Esvin the sales rep, I mentioned the auto program and he immediately let me know that I could save anywhere from $250- 500 dollars. He went to check, and gave me the good news, it was closer to a 1K! Then I saved more when I got some extra add ons! I have been at Costco member for over 10 years and I never imagined I would buy a car through Costco. But I had seen advertising in the store about buying a car through their auto program. I never thought that I would seriously do that though. But after going through it, I really don't know why anyone would not at least try as it is simple and you are almost guaranteed to save money on the price of the car. You basically are referred to a local authorized dealer that obviously is held to Costco's customer service and quality standards in selling you a car. They show you invoice pricing and then a noticeable lower Costco Customer price and you go from there. The process of buying a car is grueling but using the Costco Auto Program makes it less so if that makes any sense. read more

I did not have a good experience with the Costco auto program. The dealership pulled a bait and switch one me. They emailed me a Costco quote for a Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring for around $25k. This was a great deal so I took time to go and test drive. After the test drive, they gave me a new Costco invoice for around 31k....6k over the initial email offer for Grand Touring model. After a great deal of waiting, I was told that 31k is the price and the original 25k was for a lesser Sport model even though their email clearly stated Grand Touring (have the email Costco pricing sheet). I respectfully left the dealership and thanked them for their time. I filled out the online contact us section with above and someone from Costco did reach out to me for comment. I returned their call and left a voice mail and have not heard back. It's been 2-3 weeks now. I will not be using Costco auto services. There is no way to leave a review on their website...all you see if their positive testimonials. read more

I went to HYUNDAI KEYES VAN NUYS through the Costco auto program - RICH (sales manager) was NOT respecting the CAP guidelines. I test drove several cars - and sat down to get the number$. He introduced me to his gang. Two other guys who acted as if they were best friends with me. Then they started to play games. I reminded them that all I was interested in was to see the Costco price sheets for the two cars I liked. They showed me only one -the most expensive one of the two- and it was NOT a Costco price sheet. Even though they said it was!!! It has to have the COSTCO LOGO. They were simply trying to take advantage of me. A RIP OFF. I asked for a particular color. They said you can't just choose a color. With Costco you have to buy what is available on the lot - which is a LIE!!! I left... disgusted. I contacted the people at CAP...they were only half helpful...:-( read more

Hands down the best way to negotiate a deal on the car, almost as good as fleet pricing. There were no hassles, none of this crazy back/forth haggling for hours on end that traditionally accompanies a new car purchase. We made an appointment, test drove a car, received the pricing and a fair offer for our trade in, and agreed to the deal. In the past, we have seen numbers change once we are in the finance room to sign. Not with the Costco Auto Program. Everything was above board, the numbers we agreed to didn't change, and we signed documents in about 10 minutes. The next day, the dealer contacted us and had managed to get a much lower finance rate approved, so we came in and signed again. We are very happy with the experience and will use this program again. read more

Update: I eventually received an email from Costco telling me that they finished investigating and that I did receive the Costco price. I didn't, they're wrong, but they washed their hands of it. They also never acknowledged that they permit the dealer to force unwanted options to the purchase to recover any profit lost to the Costco discount. Totally unsatisfied with this program and will not use it again. Strongly suggest to anyone considering using it that they first approach the dealership and ask them if they require additional options to be added to cars sold under the Costco program BEFORE you end up in negotiations with them. read more

This is the second time that I have used the Costco Auto Program to purchase a new vehicle. The first time was in late 2014 and resulted in a favorable buying process. This time was even better!! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and state-issued stay-at-home orders, I chose to allow Costco to provide me with the name of their local authorized dealer, a point of contact at the dealer and to pre-negotiate the price of my selected vehicle. All went well and only two in person visits to the dealership; one for a rest drive and one for the actual purchase. By the way, the dealer was actually willing to find a vehicle with my requested options, colors, and other features from a nearby dealership since they didn't have one in their current inventory. Totally worthless program. I called Costco and they emailed me the dealer name with 3 sales people and said that one of them would give me a call. Nobody called me so I actually stopped into the dealership to test drive the vehicle. They had no vehicles available to test drive and had no interest in ordering one for me. As it was getting towards the end of the model year, I ended up going to another dealer, test driving the car I wanted, and ordering it from them. read more

Wow, 5 hours really? Hmm I have done better time on my own! Note, they show you the price after you test drive, about 40-60 minutes after you get there. So that is a little sooner than on your own. However, even when you say you don't want extras they will tell they have to sell you what's on lot. This came with about 2000 dollars in extras we said no. They took one off, but could not the rest and said Costco requires this . ????. This is where you respond Costco auto.... Now, no one tied us to the chair, and we did have another dealership lined up so time vs money, we figured for about a 500 savings, our guess since with this program they cannot quote on phone, we stayed put. Our sales person had to get permission to get things off that we did not want, these are like alarm features, clear coats, not physical items. Bell Honda is where we were sent to and were told they also had an extra 500 rebate, which they knew nothing of, and the price offered is the same as the internet pricing. Also, they play time we wanted to leave to get lunch while they were working everything out, lol, right, we just should have left. We were told 2 minutes, 2 minutes. No way. This is why I suggest using your credit union with a fleet dealer! My personal experience 1 hour in and out, quote and car specs what you want and on lot when you arrive with money. Using this auto program is like buying a car on your own when you have to deal with the extras except you are deceived into thinking you are going to get Costco type of customer service (straight forward low key). Nope not happening and till you get there you get calls, I think just to make sure you are still coming in, not to meet your needs at all. Upside. Sorry, I can't think of one. When finally in to finalize paper work, I am still shaking my head at how long they waste your time at this place. The finance manager, not ready . Full of sales talk to up sale for maintenance and extra warranty. Did nothing we didn't already do for ourselves. First said found an aggressive rate but had nothing. We have excellent credit by the way. My number one complaint is all the time it took. Our sale's person and I spoke a minimum of 3 times and told him exactly what we wanted and that we did not want extras on the car, this was before our appointment, don't waste your time!!!. Call your credit union and use fleet. Or do it on your own, because you still have to watch out for yourself, Costco is not helping in that way, only base price of car. I am writing Costco next, will update if they do anything and reviewing Bell Honda, I just wanted to stop anyone from being deceived that this is Costco in anyway, it is not the Costco service I know. Costco auto program is a simple process. I have been using it for all 3 of my cars. I don't have the hassle to deal with sale representative. It just done by internet sales manager. You don't have to deal with 4 squares tactic they have been using which always end up on your disadvantage. I think car buying should be this easy. I tried this and my local dealer gave me a price that was $2500 higher than the same car they had as one of their specials. When I asked about it he gave me another price that was lower than the car on special and said he didn't go through Costco pricing. So I spammed the internet while searching for a car to buy and did the edmunds, truecar, etc... A colleague of mine highly recommended the Costco Auto Buying Program where she recently purchased her vehicle. The Costco program boasts being a "good" price, no haggle, no games program. My experience? Highest price and games, games, games. If you've used any car buying program, you get a call almost as soon as you click the submit button on your online form. Costco states on their website that you will be contacted usually within an hour but definitely within 24 hours... so 30 hours later, I resubmit a second request and I finally get a response. What did the "authorized" dealer want? He wanted me to come in without disclosing the special Costco pricing... I had to pry the price out of him as I want to visit a dealer once (to buy the car and take it home). The price quoted did not include ANY of the existing rebates and the dealership played dumb pretending they did not know about the rebates despite the fact a national sale for the car manufacturer was going on... Needless to say they were many thousands more than any of the other online quotes. I submitted my unhappiness with the process to Costco proper and they responded right away... so kudo's to Costco customer service but a big black eye for them for picking such an awful dealership to represent them in this auto buying program. Although it's mostly the dealers fault, it's Costco's problem to certify them and allow them to represent them. To be fair, if you are buying a car that does not have promotions (like my colleague did), this Coscto program may work for you. But if there are promotions going on, buyer beware. The short answer is this is the best way that I have found to purchase a new car.. I recently was in the market for a new car (2018 Chevy Volt) and went through the Costco program. I was connected with a special salesperson at a Chevrolet dealership who (with no pressure and being fully knowledgeable about my specific model) helped me determine what options I wanted, and then sent me an email with a computerized rendering of my new car, along with the exact price. Then he left me alone. Thinking that this process was entirely too easy (and that as a lawyer I should be a pretty good negotiator) I went to a different dealership and asked to purchase the exact same car, but the previous year's model with all the same options. I explained that I had a Costco offer but did not disclose the details . The second salesman said he knew all about the Costco program and would throw in the $700 discount he said was all that was necessary to match the Costco program, plus I would get a better price because (although new) his car was last year's model. After many hours and multiple "negotiating" sessions with this second salesman (who wasn't sure if a 2017 Volt was the same car as a 2018, which it is), I received what I was told was the best discount below MSRP ("Manufacturer's suggested retail price ) and above "invoice" (without addressing rebates from manufacturer ) that they could possiblydo; a price that I could see was more than $3,000 above what I then thought was the Costco price for the 2018 version of the exact same car. Aside from all the confusion about the price of the car it was pretty clear to me that this second dealer either didn't know or care what the Costco program really offered, he just wanted me to believe that his offer was better when it actually wasn't. Just to be completely sure I then contacted an auto purchasing consultant (who gets cars for his customers at "fleet prices" that are substantially better than MSRP and not that much above what the car actually costs the dealer with all manufacturer rebates). I asked him if he could do better than the Costco program, he said he would check; then he never returned my calls again. I then went back to the nice Costco guy and bought my car from that dealership. It turned out that (because the holiday season had just begun) I not only got the $700 Costco card I had expected and "employee pricing" (which is better than fleet pricing) , but I also received a $1,000 dealer rebate and another $1,000 Costco rebate, plus enough free oil changes to last me longer than I will own the car, plus a 1/2 off coupon for accessories like floor mats and car cover. After purchasing the car, the Costco specialist sat with me in the car, paired its electronics with my cellphone and explained the rest of the car so that I drove out of the dealership knowing how every feature in the car worked. In my opinion going through Costco is the most pleasant and affordable way to buy a new car. read more

Thank you Costco Car Buyers Program for forcing the dealer (Keyes Hyundai, Van Nuys) to honor their commitment to the program post-sale. Initially, I signed up looking for the 2018 Hyundai Sante Fe. Within an hour I had calls from two dealers, one near my home and the other farther away. I visited the nearer, Keyes Hyundai, in Van Nuys, CA. At the time of the sale, I paid far more than the Costco/Dealer agreed-pricing. I contacted Costco Car Buyer's and It took 6 weeks but Costco explained that the Costco/Dealer-agreed pricing for this sale was $2,000 below invoice. Also, they found that the dealer had not given the 50% discount on Dealer Add-ons. In the end, the dealer was required to apply $2,910 to my loan. I am very happy with Costco but remain troubled by the way Keyes handled the Costco Program sale. I will never visit Keyes Hyundai again, its a jacuzzi I don't want to climb into. The Costco Auto Program is a complete and utter disgrace and a stain on the Costco brand!  They claim to provide a hassle-free experience and instead create new and hardships for consumers.  Let's start with the initial contact.  I reached out via phone for referrals to Subaru and Honda dealers and received multiple emails to confirming my inquiry.  The emails said my information was sent to the dealers and I would hear back shortly.  I never did.  When I called one Subaru dealer and mentioned my interest in purchasing a new vehicle through the Costco Auto Program I was treated very poorly.  They said there was no proof of my referral and they would not let me read them the confirmation number from the email.  I restarted the process via the Costco Auto Program website and had better luck with starting a dialogue with a different Subaru dealer.  The problem then became the pricing.  They would not even come close to the prices listed on the Costco Auto Program's website.  (Note the fine print: "All prices and specifications are intended for reference only and are subject to change without notice.")  When I confronted them about it they became very nasty and said it was the best they could do.  Aren't these headaches what the Costco Auto Program is supposed to avoid?  What is the point of pricing on their website if the dealers are going to ignore it?  The program contacted me about my experience and I laid bare my issues in full.  I was eventually contacted by a member advocate named Leonardo who, while sympathetic on the phone, offered no actual support in dealing with the sleazy car salespeople.  He told me that he would reach out on my behalf and then never got back to me.  I actually tried a Subaru dealer in another state that was part of the Costco Auto Program (there seem to be very few participating dealers per geographic region) and they too were abrasive and misleading about pricing.  Some of these dealers began to call and email me multiple times a day after receiving my contact info.  My information was added to marketing lists without my consent!  Unless the Costco Auto Program grows a pair and creates a brand new system of protecting consumers from sleazy car salespersons I advise you to steer clear of this flaccid attempt at consumer advocacy!!! read more

Buying a car is a big cost, so homework is essential. Just because its "Costco", does not mean that your going to get the best price OR customer service at the dealership. Dealing with Costco Auto Program was great. Just like the stores. They are very helpful and want the best for you, the customer. The dealerships are dealerships. They are in it for them to make money. They will treat you like any other customer, so expect the sleazy used card dealer motives. Start off with the contact from the dealership: after filling out the Costco online form, I got 2 emails and 3 phone calls from 3 different people at the same dealership. When I called one of the numbers back, I got a 4th person who would 'take care of me'. Meanwhile, still getting emails from the other 2 people. I made an appointment and went to the dealership, I was passed off to another sales person. (5th person, wow, they have staff!) According to the dealer, the Costco Auto Program will give you an $1800 discount (GMC Canyon truck in CA). The vehicle that I wanted they didn't have (nor any other in that class - 2WD, shortbox). Got the pricing for a vehicle I found on the web (minus $1800 costco discount). They did offer me a price for what they had on the lot (at $5k more). After 3+hrs at the dealership, where most of my time was waiting for the Sales Manager to review the pricing, I left, upset. I had gone with the intentions of purchasing a vehicle, checkbook in hand. Got home & searched all of the dealers in California with a vehicle like I wanted. Found one 10 miles away for $5k LESS and no Costco discount. Called the costco dealership to see if they would at least price match (let alone with costco discount) but they said no. I am a happy owner of a new, non-costco dealer, GMC Canyon. One of the sales persons keeps calling and emailing, even though they told me they couldn't come close to the pricing I paid at my local dealership. read more
