Costco Optical Review Rancho Cordova I highly recommend Dr. Dora Szymanowicz at Costco Optical on White Rock Rd. in Rancho Cordova. When I went to see Dr. Dora Szymanowicz, I had already visited Kaiser to get my 2020 eyeglass prescription and my contact lens prescription. My purpose for going is that I was not happy with my vision with my Kaiser contact lenses and fitting in 2019. Since turning 45, I have required multi-vision rigid gas permeable lenses instead of mono-vision rigid gas permeable lenses. Apparently, I am a complicated case because Costco is the third place that I have tried to get someone with the proper expertise. Dr. Szymanowicz was very attentive to my needs, listening, assessing and considering my input as a lens wearer for 30+ years. She prescribed two options and when they came in assessed again. We had to try one more time and then they closed because of COVID-19. I was able to figure out and finish the last tweaks to my orders with the Optical Department. I am seeing better now than I have in the 4 years. I am very excited about this and highly recommend Dr. Dora Szymanowicz. I plan to go back for one check when her office opens again. As you probably know, a customer has to deal a lot with the Optical Department for payment, ordering and picking up orders. This can get very tricky if you have a complicated situation like I did. I want to mention how wonderful the employees that worked with me. Jackie and Heather were always so helpful. Isaac went above and beyond to make my many experiences successful. Not sure what the ladies problem was, but she was rude and curt with us. No smile and she lied!!! She said I was not on my wife's optical plan and I was. We called VSP and confirmed I was on my wife's plan. The only thing I can think of is either racial/political prejudice. You hate to see it, but leave all that stuff at home and be professional and courteous to the customer. We will not be back and will cancel our membership as well. This place is ridiculous when it comes to customer service. They need some serious retraining in this area. You'll notice zero response here to my review. And if so nothing will happen. The Costco optometrist in San Francisco has the most terrible service! Not the doctor but the operations. The entire experience is like they are stuck in the 90's, pre internet era! 1) you can't book online. You can only book by calling and they never answer the phone. They will call you back and then you miss the phone call and you play phone tags for like a week. 2) they won't allow you to book more than 2 appointments at one time unless you give them a debit card for a non-refundable deposit. So if you want to take your family there you have to put a deposit down. 3) they don't take credit card, only debit card or cash. 4) we were 5 min late and they refused to see us. I had to beg and beg and they agreed to see one of us. The doctor is fine once you see the doctor. But honestly, the whole booking experience is so arcane that I would not go back to them again. read more

Dr. Do recognized a retinal problem right away and I ended up at Retinal Consultants, having surgery. Additionally, when I had previously gotten lined bifocals and realized I really needed progressive lenses instead in order to see the computer screen, I was able to have them switch it out with no additional charge. Have been going to Costco optometry in Rancho Cordova since 4 years and always have had positive experience. Optometrist Dora and the previous optometrists were all experienced and thorough in exams and discussing evaluations and any concerns. All of our family members go to this Optometrist. No complaints except maybe they should improve the space in their waiting area. It is very cramped and only 1-2 chairs available to sit. So if more than 1-2 customers show up at the same time, there is not even standing room in their office. You have walk around or shop and just go in when it is your appt. time!! read more

This was a horrible experience. They didn't fit me for the correct contacts, they used up my insurance on the visit and provided me with the product that would ensure the most recurring cost. Overall this eye exam and products were a cash grab. Additionally, their record keeping was subpar. I went here to purchase eyeglasses and unfortunately, I was "helped" by a rude employee. An employee with long, blonde hair was extremely rude to me. I asked if I can use my old frames and she said yes but there's a $25 fee. Fine. Then I asked her a question about a pair of eyeglasses on display and she tried to make me look stupid I asked her if the frames were high index and she said "Those are just frames." I know that! Obviously, I want to know if they can be used for high index lenses and she said "They can be" after I clarified my question. Ultimately I did not purchase my glasses there because their lab doesn't make my prescription. She just said "We can't make those." Left it at that. My husband asked her why/ how high they can go and that's when she explained the lab can't make it and that I can go to Lens Crafters or Walmart I don't know why she had to be so rude. read more

So there is a new doctor at this Costco and she completely changed the entire office and staff. I had a great experience! They are open 7 days a week (they see patients 6 days a week) and she takes walk-ins! She told me the place was very slow when she took over and she is trying to make it busier and build it up and she is doing great! Super-efficient, has 2 assistants so she doesn't fall behind much and very prompt service. She was very nice and gave me multiple contact lens trials as well! After trying them I told her which one I liked and she gave me the prescription. She took over at the end of September 2019, so even if you had a bad experience at this location before I highly recommend you try them again! Everything is new and bright and friendly. Went to get an eye exam, contacts and glasses. Glenice assisted me thru the exam process. She was so kind. I called prior to my visit to say I would be 10 minutes late, it went to an automated line so I didn't bother trying to get to a human. However at 1005am Glenice called because she could see someone called and wanted to make sure it was me. She didn't make a fuss about my tardiness. She was so upbeat and friendly. She also spent about 45 minutes teaching me to put contacts in while still juggling checking in others and getting initial tests done. I can't say enough about her, her encouragement thru the contact practice made me not give up and I feel I can be successful with contacts in the future. I was able to schedule an appointment for the very next day with the optometrist. My contact lens prescription expired and I needed a new prescription to order new ones. The appointment was easy to make, the receptionist sounded very friendly over the phone! The optometrist, Dr. Welker O.D. was super nice. She had a joyful personality and made the eye exam feel as though it went by very quickly. There was not much of a wait and they were efficiently able to juggle me and another patient at the same time. I was in and out with a prescription fairly quickly! The eye exam costed $98 dollars for me (I have never been to this location before and was a new patient). She gave me one free sample pack of contact lenses in my prescription along with a sample bottle of BioTrue solution on the way out. There was no pressure to buy or partake upon additional testing that I was not interested in. Overall, I had a great experience here. Great and friendly staff and a reasonable price for a quick exam. No walk-ins! Apparently... I have walked in to try to get an eye exam several times over the last 3 months and got turned down every time. Every time the office is empty but the lady says "sorry I'm booked for the day" then turns back around to stare at her computer... My job is on-call so it is very hard for me to make an appointment. I bought my glasses approximately a year and a month ago from Costco in Folsom. Last month, I notice a spot on one of my lenses. I tried to clean the lense but water and a soft cloth did not remove the spot. I finally got them to costco optometry and they said the lense coating was peeling off. They said there was no warrenty covering the peeling of the protective coating. Costco said lenses automatically come with this coating. I need my glasses to last at leat 2 years. I don't plan to purchase glasses from COSTCO. read more

A worker there named Ashley who was friendly and professional helped me tell me about what my prescription said and what it meant. The doctors here are great people. Also, you cannot beat the price and quality of Costco, including this vision department. Consumer Reports looked at all the major retailers to see if their prescription glasses were good quality. Guess what retailer was the ONLY retailer to get the coveted "recommendation" from Consumer Reports? You guessed it, it was Costco. All other major retailers failed to produce glasses at a good enough quality. If you do not have insurance this is the no-brainer place to go. Unprofessional work place. The optometrist didn't care about her customers. More like rush them in and get them out. She doesn't bother to explain anything to the customers. Nor explain much to those who works for her. *Don't bother paying for the fee on how to put them on. The people at the front desk weren't much help. Unless you want someone to watch you put them on and not offer any tips or instructions. You are better off watch YouTube videos on how to put them on. *If you do get an exam, get the drops instead. Don't pay extra fee for not doing this this method. *If you do have insurance, ask for how much each service will cost and what you're going to pay out of pocket. Try to get an invoice and know exactly how much you are pay for each service. Before you beginning your appointment. I won't recommend this place. You're better off going somewhere else. read more

I must say, I use to have good things to say about costco but not theses days. This review is narrowed directly towards the optical department. The lack of educated and knowledgeable employees in relation to optical is my main concern. I had my mom drop off a pair of frames to have new prescription lenses put in with my information that was already on file. They told my mother that I needed to be there so they can measure my eyes, which was done literally the same day I got my eye exam there. So with my blurred vision I drove all the way there, go to find out that the measurements and all my optical information was in the system. The older lady representative tried to play it off like she still needed to take my eye measurements. I played along, and by the way, someone should tell the staff about oral hygiene, her breath was unbearable. Not trying to be rude I didn't say anything. So when all said and done, it was checkout time. She told me there was a $18 fee for using my own frames!?!? Are you fucking kidding me costco? !?! Like you not a corporate giant already, you have to take more money from people for no reason?! None of this information was disclosed to me at time of eye exam, nor at the time of price inquiry By a male representative who works there. When I proceeded to tell the lady representative that this male representative who wore glasses told me it was a flat $75 no more and no less, she flat out lied to Me and said there is no male associate who works there. Really!? Doesn't seem that costco teaches their employees about honesty and moral integrity. Is this how you want to run your corporation Costco? With dishonesty and and lack of moral integrity? It seems to me, that you need to hire some actual people who know what they're talking about and doing. I refused to pay this stupid $18 fee to use my own eye glass frames and took my business elsewhere. I recently went here to get my eyes examined because of an infection and my old optometrist was being difficult with getting me an appointment. I got in the same day i scheduled a week ahead with another optometrist. They are awesome! Although small, they have everything you need to make sure your eyes are in tip top condition! Dr. Shergill was quickly able to assess my issue and prescribed me everything i needed to help my eye infection. They are the most reasonably priced place to go and honestly I believe they are one of cheaper options in all of Sacramento (I thoroughly price checked) especially when you consider they do same day appointments and contacts and frames are easily picked up right next to them. read more

It's very sad that in today's day people don't hire good ethic workers. I had an unpleasant encounter with a hispanic lady at the front desk about a question I had about my sons glasses and she disregarded all of my concerns. I even asked her about why she felt the need to lie to me about not speaking Spanish when I had heard her speak spanish fluently before. After lying again and saying she didn't, she took it bad and said "you know what I do speak perfect Spanish but I am not obligated to speak Spanish to you" I was shook, isn't the point of working at the front desk to help the consumer? I'm even more concerned because I at least am able to understand and speak English enough to be understood but what about the other non English speaking people in that area coming to her for help?? I hope something is done I don't wish for her to be fired i only wish that no one else encounters something like that as well. read more
