There were quite a few people but they still made sure I was doing okay before the doctor called me in. Made an appointment and was seen fairly quickly the day of the appointment. The optimistic & from desk staff were all very pleasant. The space however is fairly small. There were about 9 patients in there my self included and it was an uncomfortable tight fit for us to sit and stand in that space. However I will be returning for my next eye exam as the care I got was wonderful! read more

Sept 2024 Hawthorne location. Wish I could give 0 stars. I had an eyeglass emergency when my son's frame broke, and he is legally blind without them. So Sunday, around noon, I went into Costco Optical on Hindry to purchase a new pair, and I said "hi, I need to fill a prescription", and the girl blurts out "take a number." Then she runs out of the dept like she saw a ghost. Um, ok, so I take a number. There were probably a handful of people there and 4 employees. After a while, I hear my number 069, and I raise my hand "I'm over here", but the guy was like an auctioneer quickly calling out 69..70..71..72 without even taking a breath. I managed to get my turn, and for some reason, it was urgent that I hand over my number to him because apparently, I can't be trusted. He took one look at my son's prescription and said "we can't make it, it's too high". Fine. Never offered any type of help to me or options. Like he could care less, and the fact I was even there to begin with bothered him. So, I start looking for a frame only, and when I go up to the desk to make my purchase, he has this cocky attitude the entire time. Incredible. Must be my lucky day. I really wanted to report him, but honestly I just wanted to get out of that place. He had a beard, I think his name is David, and he really needs another line of work. Maybe stocking shelves or working far away from people would be better. Needless to say, this Costco Optical in Hawthorne has the worst customer service and the rudest employees you will ever come across. You can see them avoiding eye contact with you. The irony. The waiting time to talk to staff is an hour on a weekday. They have check in system with a phone, and they will text you to come back when you are about 3 numbers away. However, 3 numbers could mean 30 minutes plus. read more

In general, Costco has great competitive prices often equaling their peers in quality and beating them in price or value while maintaining customer service and support. Disclaimer here, the folks at the eyeglass frames and contact lens area have no specific education, expertise, training nor experience to provide optometry support in helping find specific frames that fit your face size and shape, etc. With that, I found my experiences, going in with moderate expectations, to be lackluster, frustrating and leaving me disappointed. I guess, there is a reason why it might be better to go through a professional optometrist who can more professionally and accurately assist customers in a hand-holding customized manner more so than a generic order taking process at Costco. If you know exactly what you want, and they have what you need, Costco can earn a ***** five star rating. That might apply to ordering or reordering basics like contact lens after getting your prescription there or from your own optometrist doctor. BUT if you are in doubt, confused or need help, the that is where Costco might not be the beset option for advice, or at least maybe not the retail counter service more so than the actual doctors / optometrists. read more

I recently tried a 3-pack of inexpensive readers from the warehouse. After a few weeks and headaches every day, I wondered if something was seriously wrong with my eyes. I went to my optometrist for an exam and fearing the worst, I was relieved to find out that I shouldn't be wearing over-the-counter readers since my left eye is far-sighted, and my right eye is near-sighted. I had no idea that the readers were way too strong for my right eye and were the cause of the headaches and pounding in my right eye. I got a prescription for reading glasses and brought it to Costco since they had a pair of Gucci frames that I liked. I inquired about Eye Med insurance and found out that they don't accept it at Costco. They told me that some members purchase their glasses from them and submit the receipt for reimbursement. After calling Eye Med, I found out that my policy has out-of-network benefits and will reimburse for a portion of the frame and lenses. Although I will not be reimbursed fully for the glasses, Costco offers great prices on designer frames...way better than getting them from an in-network provider who marks them up with a high profit margin. Costco Optometry - My new Gucci reading glasses - Optometrists Near Me - Hawthorne, California

For the first time, I bought two pairs of glasses here after my eyesight weakened recently. Very happy with them. We have Kaiser health insurance so when I decided to get Transitions lenses, I thought I should use Kaiser. As opposed to Costco's simple, straightforward ordering system, Kaiser's optometry experience was like going to a car dealership. We love Kaiser's healthcare, but this glasses business is different. After going over a BUNCH of options the estimate, before including frames, was $550! Whoa. So we scaled various specs back (I had no idea what effect they would have) to get price to $340. When I got them, I hated the lenses (I already have Costco progressives--but these new ones seemed primitive--lots of focus issues). The Transitions tinting was also very faint while I was driving. I just returned them. It wasn't until I went back to Costco that I learned that the UV tinting in cars inhibits the Transitions effect--so they don't recommend them for driving. Only outdoors/indoors. I still ordered a Transitions pair (we'll see how they work out). But the cost was a much-lower $236. Much better experience! read more

I found this place going in with my dad to Costco. I had no idea that they sold classes. So I went and looked at them and I saw the prices of the frames. I was like OK. this is an inexpensive but what they're gonna do is make it up on the lenses. Oh my God everything is inclusive with the lenses. The glasses are dirt cheap. I just got two pair for 450. I've got excellent Optometry insurance and when I went to LensCrafters with my Insurance Rayban pair of eyeglasses were gonna cost me 750 bucks that's with my Insurance Costco rocks. This is the second time I've gone in the place at all always go no need to go anywhere else. I just got my notification that my glasses are supposed to be in about 10 days. They came in after three. I really don't understand all the negative reviews. Our experience could not have been better. Truly. I called today around 12:30 pm for any opening in the near future for both myself and my adult daughter. The assistant found two openings at 3:15 pm and 3:30 pm, TODAY! We arrived, were warmly greeted, and handed paperwork. At almost exactly 3:15 the doctor (Dr. Marian Masoud) called me in. She was simply wonderful; funny, patient, and thoroughly professional. She understood I was going to purchase my glasses online, and, unlike our previous optometrist, didn't try to up-sell me on anything. After our appointments, we stopped by the optometry department to look at possible frames, and to get measurements for ordering my frames online. Again, the staff was welcoming and professional, without a trace of the dreaded up-sell. Would I go back? In a heartbeat! Would I recommend going there, and, more specifically seeing Dr. Masoud? Let me put it this way: when/if she leaves that location, I have every intention of following her to her new practice. read more

Kimberly at the optometry department was amazing. Not only is she knowledgeable about glasses and lens (since I have bad vision and require thicker lenses, she advised that I choose a specific type of frame so my lens don't stick out and aren't too thick) but she also helped me save money with my insurance. She was such a pleasure to work with that I'm giving 5 stars just for her! You don't need a Costco memebership to get your vision checked by the Optometrist, BUT you will need a Costco memebership to buy glasses and contacts. They accept certain insurance and vsp is one if them. However Costco is out of my network. There isn't a huge selection of frames to choose from, and there's only a handful of name brand frames but I'm not super picky. read more

I don't normally give bad reviews, but I was very disappointed with the customer service at the optical dept today. My experience with the optometry department was wonderful -- everyone was very nice and efficient. After getting my Rx I was going to order my year long supply of contacts so I stepped over to the optical dept, took a number and waited. When they called my number, I was sitting at the red bench just 10 feet away. I heard my # be called and got up immediately, however in the 30 seconds it took me to walk over, they had already moved on the the next customer. I let Jazmyn know she skipped me and she very rudely said she called my number and walked away. Didn't even give me time to respond, didn't let me know if I'd be next or if I should grab another number. Her attitude was unnecessary and unhelpful. read more

This Costco Optometry is terrible. Lazy, lazy, lazy is all I can say. Customer service is dead, the staff and the Optometrist do not and will not go the extra mile to help you. Don't even think about asking them for anything that they may perceive as "extra work". It's a shame that it's attached to the Costco brand which is about Customer Service. Waited over a month for them to send my new prescription. After multiple follow up phone calls I'm still waiting... As others have said, no one ever answers the phone or the phone is kept off the hook. How can I possibly give them more than one star when they don't answer their phone so I can inquire about how much an exam costs? Then I read the reviews here and it all starts to make sense. There is no customer service. I guess I should have picked up on that when I have gone by the counter to ask the clerks questions. Jeez! If you're that busy hire a person to field questions. It couldn't cost that much to have someone there to salvage your reputation which is pretty damaged at this point. You need a person who can field questions and that's all. Not sell. Earlier today I was in the Target in Manhattan Beach and the young lady there took the time during a transaction with another customer to say she'd be right with me and was pretty quick. Then she said I could walk right in to have my eyes examined as they had two slots open right at that moment. I asked how much and about later times on Saturday. She said $75 for the exam and the last couple of appointments on Saturdays usually fill up pretty quickly. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this optometry. First, an error was made when my trial-pair contacts were ordered. An order was placed for two sets for my left eye, and none for my right eye (I have a different prescription for each eye). This error delayed the process an additional two weeks since my trial pair had to be re-ordered. Next, another error was made when an order was placed for my eyeglasses. The front desk staff incorrectly copied down my prescription. When I recieved my eyeglasses, I could not see from my left eye since the prescription was incorrect. This error delayed the process another week. Due to these errors, this entire process cost me a 3-week delay in getting proper contacts/eyeglasses. I have an extremely high prescription, which means that I literally cannot function without contacts or glasses. I over-extended the use of my last pair of contacts because I lost my orignal pair of eye-glasses. My eyes were extremeley dried out because of the use of old contacts. I always plan my optometry visits with enough time in advance, knowing that everything will be settled in 2 months, max. It took about 3 months to settle all of these issues because of the repeated errors committed by front-desk staff. The manager at this location became aware of this situation, called to apologize, and offered to order me additional contact trial pairs. While I appreciate the gesture, someone with a high prescription like myself, cannot afford to risk making business with a company that cannot guarantee accuracy for something so critical as my vision. I understand that we all make mistakes, but these one too many mistakes have truly caused an inconvenience in my daily functioning. Had I not had that last pair of contacts, I would not be able to drive, work, etc. I now have my eyeglasses with the correct prescription, but I have noticed that the left lens that was re-done might not have the anti-relfective coating I paid for. This means I must make another trip to Costco to confirm this suspicion. The lack of professionalism at this optometry has forced me to take my business elsewhere. The optometrist was great and I was in and out quickly. My issue is with the girl at the front desk. I called to make sure they took my insurance before making the appointment. She said yes. When I showed up, I find out they absolutely will take it, but they're not in network(this was discussed after I saw the doctor). I found that to be extremely misleading and used as a way to just get me in the door. Make sure to ask that specific question of if they are in network, so that you don't get that unpleasant surprise when it's too late. read more

been buying glasses from this costco for years. I bought a new pair in July and within a month they began to break on one side. So (thinking it might just be the specific pair) I went back and had them replace it. Within another month they began to break in the exact same place. I thought okay maybe Ill just wait it out see if they just need to loosen a bit, but no they fell apart. I super glued them and went back to see if I could put the lenses in a new set of frames. I pulled a bunch of options that seemed like the lenses would fit. When I asked the guy at the counter he said I can give you a replacement pair (again) but ""that's all I'm willing to do." WILLING to do. I was willing to pay for a new frame as ling as I didnt have to repurchase the lenses and they WOULD not do it. Never again. I have been trying to call all morning to schedule an appointment for an exam. The first time I called someone answered and then rudely just said "Hold" then never came back to the line.. When I called back again, I was once again told to hold, but this time was hung up on instead of actually being placed on hold. Now when I call the phone just rings and rings with no one answering. I don't know what is going on, but this is ridiculous! The level of incompetence in the Optometry Department is beyond frustrating. At the very least they should have an answering machine!!! I luv Costco for everything else and have never experienced such bad service until now. It's Costco, they have a ton of employees; but yet nobody is answering in the optometrists department?!!? Horrible customer service. I've been shopping at this location for over 15 years and finally decided to check out their optometry department which I quickly regretted. I received so much unnecessary attitude from Kaitlyn it blew my mind. Her lack of knowledge on just about everything in the department combined with her over the top attitude and careless demeanor was extremely frustrating. Also, I caught her in 2 different lies and was surprised by how well she manipulated the situation then tried to play it off like no big deal.
