I must have mastered the art of shopping at costco. Haven't been in quite a while, but we made use of the meat section for sure grabbing everything from chicken breast to lamb chops to usda prime meat to the beef tenderloin we're using for a beef wellington recipe this week. The people in the meat department were quite helpful to us today. Parking for a Sunday afternoon was not bad. Sample game was strong. And all of our goods were amazing! I come here 3 to 4 times a month. I see familiar faces every time I come in. Everyone is alway super helpful and personable. Few people are great wise crackers and I get along with them very well. The store is clean and I never have difficulty finding anything. I have been shopping here since my children were babies, so I feel a part of their "community." I get my glasses there (the optical department is great and super efficient) my cakes, my flowers and all the other things that are never on my list. I prefer this one to some of the others because it's busy, but not overwhelming... the other Costco in Richmond doesn't feel as cozy or welcoming to me. P.s. I think Ted is great! I've been a fan of Costco for years, and with this location being shiny and new my love for shopping here is just about overflowing. Most people are aware of what wholesale stores include, so I'll just say that what Costco does better than its competitors is maintain a high level of product quality and offer a sweet return policy. The food court is a fun break from other fast food joints with a varied-but-not-overwhelming menu and some cheap and tasty deals, one of which is a hot dog & 20oz. drink for only $1.50! This location is where the old Costco off of Hull St transferred to, and though I heard some whining about it, the move was an improvement! The previous location on Hull Street just so happened to be the oldest Costco warehouse on the east coast (per one of the managers), so an upgrade was DEFINITELY due. The new building is lighter, airier, has a better organized space, and much more parking. There is also a gas station at this location for which I am truly thankful during this summer of soaring gas prices. One thing to remember: If you don't shop at Costco often, you may not be aware that their weekend hours are shorter than weekdays. Sat-Sun they close at 6 in the evening, compared to closing at 8:30 Mon-Fri. read more

This location is the best Costco in Richmond (the Broad St store is always crowded and cramped and causes me to be a grouchy pants). Not only are the staff super nice and cheerful...yes, really. They seem super happy to be working and helping. Also, the other customers seem nicer at this location as well....guess they are less stressed since the staff is so great. Other tips: The take/bake margherita pizza at this location has triple the amount of fresh basil compared to West Broad location! YUM! Keep in mind not all Costco items are a "deal" Sometimes it is cheaper to buy from CVS or the grocery store. Just keep this in mind. read more

I'm a big fan of this Costco! Like what one of the reviewers said, I too believe that this is the best Costco in Richmond. I believe its much bigger, both the store and parking lot, compared to the West Broad Street location. This Costco used to be located on Hull Street, but relocated near Chesterfield Towne Center. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Everything is in stock here. You're bound to find whatever you're trying to look for. Their cafe has one of the best hot dogs that I have ever had. You can get a hot dog and a drink for only $1.50! That's a steal! You can't find that anywhere else. Plus you get free refills. Their pizza is really good as well. Usually I buy a whole pie of pizza to bring home, and it's only $10. If you're planning to eat at the cafe, they only accept cash, no credit card. Just giving you all a heads up. If you plan to shop here, I would recommend that you shop here during the weekday. Mainly because its really hectic here during the weekends. Lines are long, you're always bumping into people in the isles. It's just one big headache, and its just best to avoid it at all costs. Also, if you wanna save on your next trip to the movie theater, they sell Regal Cinemas movie ticket vouchers for about $16.50 for 2 voucher tickets. That's a really good deal if you ask me. You can use those vouchers anytime, in the daytime or in the evening. Its like paying for a matinee ticket if you buy your movie tickets here. Then you don't have to worry about paying $10 plus if you want to go see a movie in the evening. You'll always get a great deal here! Plus, you can get free food samples while shopping here! Alright, This might be a long one, however, I hope you find it useful. I have some Pros and Con's about Costco. Now some might call me picky, however, that is the point of a review. To gain another's opinion to help weight or balance a decision. Here are the Con's. I know, backward right?. First, the day we went into Costco, just to see how it compared with Sams and Bjs, we were bombarded by a woman that seemingly had no business working there. Not only was she pushy, she was way too chatty for my taste. There is a line between selling the sale and just being an overbearing prude. She crossed the line so many times, it could have been Nascar. After we finally decided to go ahead and join, she then knocked our choice for only opting for the normal annual membership instead of the Upgraded business account which we had no need for. That there should have been our reason for getting our money back and walking away, however, we did not wish to let one extremely bad apple spoil the bunch. We have been there three times since getting our membership and I have to say with all honesty, We should have stuck with BJs. Costco not only does not have half of the items were are use to purchasing and are comfortable with, their fruit, for the second month in a row has been outdated and spoiled within days. Chicken seems to be what they are most famous for making. Not only were they roasting it, but everything on the "convenience meal" row was something with Chicken. I like chicken, but paying so much a month, and not having a verity is a pain and rather dull. Now, let's move beyond that to the basics. The people whom they have working at the registers are completely unqualified to handle the mass amount of people that come through their doors. Having to stand in line for almost 25 minutes while the man who has been there, according to his own bragging once we did finally get to the actual cashier. So after waiting for them to search for numbers to an item, not just one item but several, asking someone, who then asked someone else, who then finally told the cashier who couldn't seem to remember and the cycle had to be restarted, we paid for our items and made out way towards the exit. Now, the woman who was standing there, took our receipt and looked in our cart, asked us to lift up items, which we did and then looked at the paper, raised her brown like "wth am I suppose to do with this" and handed it back. No have a nice day, no thank you, nothing. It might not seems like a lot, but when you spend several hundred dollars, a thank you or have a nice day would be appreciated. We end up spending twice the amount of money, for less than we did at BJs. I doubt we will be going back. Now to the Pros because there are a few. The food that they offer in their concessions stand is REALLY good. Their pizza, their Turkey sandwiches, are amazing. If I do go back, It might just be so that I can get lunch at a great price. read more

Yay!!! Like the others I prefer this costco to the other one in Richmond. A lot less crazy here. I'm so happy to have a membership again (where I lived before didn't have one, so I let it lapse). You can get a giant slice of pizza and a frozen mocha thing to fuel your shopping escapades (fatty status) and it's amazing. I like the deals on the produce, especially the organic greens (which you can freeze extra for smoothies, score!). I also like the random deals then have go through, just got some bar stools for cheap for my apartment and super cute rain boots for $20! I love Costco. And this one is my favorite right now. I became a member several yrs ago primarily when gas prices were nose bleed high and they had and still have the best prices around. I soon fell in love with the rotisserie chickens and the $1.50 hotdogs with a soda. Best damn testing dogs around. The sausage and peppers are excellent as well as the pizza. And the berry smoothie is lip smacking good. Being single I don't need to buy lots of King Kong sized products. Their chicken and rice dog food is an excellent quality and well priced. The milk seems to not spoil as typical supermarket milk. I do buy all my movie tickets here. They have an excellent balsamic glaze which I about drizzle on anything. Yumm. Their salmon is great and please do try their mussels. They have this 4 layer chocolate cake with the best chocolate icing it about blows up any chocoholics mind to pieces. Car batteries are the best prices around. Their towels are thick plush and super absorbent. Bedroom pillows at prices your wallet can easily rest upon. In the spring they have a good assortment of perennial bulbs - I'm a huge Dahlia fan. I'll be getting my next glasses from them and save more than using my eye insurance providers approved stores. Why over spend on contact fluid I use the Kirkland brand never any issues. The only slight disappointment I have is they sometimes drop a brand rather quickly without announcing it. Maybe put up a sign saying Going bye bye Buy Now. As for me I'll be a card carrying member for life. read more

I really like this Costco as far as layout and location. The parking lot wasn't NUTS like other locations i've been to (hello W. Broad St) and there were plenty of places to put carts when finished. I returned something I bought online and then decided to peruse. A couple of recommendations... if you want to get food, pay for it at the actual register where you check out, especially if you just get a drink. It will save you time. Fill up your gas tank! It was super cheap and the guy who helps keep it clean was super friendly and nice. The location is awesome in terms of proximity to Chesterfield Town Center. I will definitely be back! read more

Nothing but good stuff to say about this store. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Even when packed the lines move fast and they seem good at having the right number of registers open. I recently used the optical center for the first time - they have a great staff there too and a good deal on quality glasses. Should have done that sooner rather than online glasses. Got tires there for the first time today, had an appointment and was done in 40 minutes. So far so good on the new tires and a significant savings over what I usually pay and it comes w free rotations and hazard warranty, both huge plusses. Handicap customers beware! For those of us who need a little assistance and require an electric cart to travel the enormous distances in this Behemoth of a store . Please be aware that the management has no concern with the upkeep of their electric carts. At least half of their Fleet is malfunctioning. When I brought this to the attention to of manager on duty, his response was that the store had more than required. Without empathy or concern he moved away from me as to say that he could care less. I proceeded to the exit, every thud of my cast on the muddy polished concrete floor slowly building rage over the way that I had been treated. MEMBERS? CLUB? I THINK NOT. read more

A Costco is fairly standard, so what is there to rate? Did they meet the standard? Did they exceed the standard? I would rate this Costco a 4 for selection but a 2 for organization. I would give it a 3 for hospitality. Overall a 3. They clothes is always a disaster and the prices fall in line with Zullily or online retailers so I would skip those long lines and click from home. Honestly, not really worth the wait. I would give them a 5 star rating for food! They have cashiers that take the money and they have cooks that are completely covered (with hair and facial hair guards). The cashier takes the money, the cash cooks prepare the food, as it should be. The food is fresh and good. I would go to order a family meal or yogurt ice cream, no membership required! read more

I've been to this Costco many times and I seem to only write reviews when bad things happen but after another amazing experience at Costco I realized that I need to review the good as well as the bad. Much parking, obviously great prices, unusually amazing warranties, and great customer service. Today I got many things but two of the items were listed as 3$ off instant savings limit two. As I was rung up I asked why the two items weren't 3$ off. They checked and in fact the sale had expired the day prior. Regardless they apologized and gave me the discount even when I offered to pay full price. It's only 6$ but most places wouldn't do something like this in my experience. I've been a member of the chesterfield locations since 1991. Costco is my primary source for most of my shopping. The staff at Costco are the best of the best. The new store's layout is a disappointment, primarily the exit routine SUCKS. I also use the pharmacy too. Bonus: membership is NOT required to buy from the pharmacy. Gas pricing is usually the better deal, but the lack of even the basics as paper towels to wipe your hands or to check your oil is a surprising omission. The tire department used to be the best deal around, but no longer. The wait times are ridiculous unless you're the first person in the door when they open. The lack of road-force balancing and even basic alignment service is also a deterrent. Even with these nit picking issues, I prefer the top level service at WalMart pricing. read more

Costco is life and this Costco certainly delivers. Fresh food, great meats, and produce. Great food court (super cheap) , friendly people. Good parking lot. If I buy it at Costco I'm 99% sure the value and quality will be great. Gone are the days where big bulk stores only offer junk food-they offer a good variety of organic and whole foods. The Kirkland brand products always deliver satisfaction. The only thing I tend to stay away from is their beauty section (shampoos and toothpaste,etc), just because I find the price per unit is not as cost efficient. read more

Optical Department - I generally go to FourEyes for glasses. But my husband convinced me to go to Costco for glasses. My Costco glasses are adequate, but the customer service is the pits. When I went to pick up my glasses, both clerks were busy. No problem, don't mind waiting my turn. A gal shows up after I've been waiting about 10 minutes. When sales clerk, Jennifer, finishes with her customer she turns around and doesn't bother to ask who was next, she immediately goes to the gal who showed up after me. I do not mind waiting, but I can't abide rudeness or poor customer service.. The gal who bumped in line was rude, but Costco Jennifer, the sales clerk needs some SERIOUS sales training. IF you see several people at the counter, you ALWAYS ask who's next. This forces people to be polite instead of sliding in front of other people. I did complain to the Costco Manager on duty. He said he'd speak to the Optical Dept manager.He was asked if I wanted to leave my name and phone number, and my response was "For what? For him to call and tell me he chastised the employee?" What good does that do me. If they really want to contact me, they can easily look at the documentation in the optics center anyway for name and number. I'm going back to Four Eyes next time. The difference in cost isn't worth the lousy customer service, and the customer service has ALWAYS been excellent at Four Eyes. read more

I understand that we are all in uncharted waters with Covid19. However, my mother is the member and had asked me to do her shopping because of her being extremely immune compromised. We know the rules and she was in the car. I stopped and asked if that was going to be a problem at the door (letting them know mom was in the car). I was told that yes it would be a problem for me to do her shopping and that she could get a motorized cart to make it easier by a manager that was called. I told them no she wasn't handicapped she couldn't come in with the covid. I was told that she would have to add me to her membership and add me to her banking account in a rude way. I brought her in along with my 2yr old and had them sit in the tire area (less people) while I shopped so she could show her face at checkout. Turns out I didn't need her. Not only was there self checkouts but also no one checking photos on membership cards. We were extremely upset at the way this was handled and will cancel Membership. And yes before you say it... I have done instacart for awhile for her and while that was great.... Costco insta prices are different than in store along with the delivery and fees that go along. read more

Beware the beef marked "Prime". As you already know, USDA Prime is a cut reserved for high-end eateries and hard for an average consumer to find. So, when I saw it in Costco's chests I drooled. Understand, I know how to cook good steaks and have enjoyed Fleming's sirlions for years. Melt in your mouth, and NEVER marinaded (ugh!). Cosco PrIme is NOT PRIME BEEF. It's just some USDA Choice they had around with less fat. Whatever you do, don't serve this crap for a dinner party unless you want to pre-chew it for your guests. Really! The cleanest big store around. I'm not much of a fan of paying membership fees to buy the same food in large quantities, but at that it's okay... The road outside (Mall Dr.) can be a real nightmare with all of the bargain shoppers hurrying to and fro; the deals are so great, there must be a blinding effect. :) There really needs to be more than one exit leaving the lot and probably a light at one of those exits, as well. read more

The warehouse had great selection and my cashiers were efficient and nice. The parking lot was easy to navigate and it was not too busy for midday on a week day. They also have a GREAT selection of Richmond and Virginia craft beers. Better than Short Pump's Costco. However, I had a really negative experience at the tire center. The man behind the counter was more concerned about his shift being over than helping me with a quick tire comparison. If it was that much trouble for him, he could have just found the next guy taking over the position for the day. Instead, I received inadequate attention and information from the tire professional. On top of that, the man was downright rude with his language while on the phone with other customers, raising his voice when asked to repeat his incomplete sentences. I understand what the end of a shift can feel like, but I have been a lifelong Costco customer and I know their tire centers are capable of much better customer service. I hope management reiterates to their staff how important it is for the customer to not feel like an inconvenience when considering a $600 purchase on a powerful automobile. Overall, I am disappointed and do not feel confident in the staff at this Costco tire center. I will not be returning to this location for my tire purchase. read more
