Used to come here when there wasn't one in Gilroy or Santa Cruz where I was from. Despite the fact it's backwards to Gilroy/Santa Cruz (WHY does Costco do that, make the entrance/exits all the same!) it's a nice little store. No Tapatio Doritos but the demographic is different, however they did have the car washing wand I was looking for, we were in and out in less than 10 minutes with 3 items, yeah!!! read more

Costco is my favorite place to shop (Grocery Outlet is a close second:) and the Sand City Costco is my favorite Costco. The usual awesome array of goods is available here and the employees are nice and helpful. What more do you want? Oh yeah, the lines are short and move quickly and you do not get the crazy crowds like you do in Salinas, Fresno, or other larger cities. read more

This is just like any other Costco. However, this one has a GREAT selection of wines. They are mostly friendly, however they are a little loose on the "service dog" enforcement. I like taking my dog with me everywhere too, but please keep your non-service dogs out of my food aisle. The samples seem to be almost everyday and you can eat lunch, just in samples. If you want to park in peace, get there when they open. We recently ordered a cake there, but if you want to order a custom cake, be sure to be VERY explicit, or you may end up with "Happy Birthday, Princess......Princess," on it. If you are going for the super-duper awesome lunch combo (dog, drink, less than $3), plan to stay in line. This place is Club Costco for lunch, but you can't beat the price. You don't need a membership to eat lunch there, either. Finally, their return policy is great! They didn't give me any grief about returning stuff, after I lost the receipt. I appreciate that, but then again, I am not going to rob Costco blind when I return my pretzel buns. read more

This Costco is pretty much the same as most others. It is a bit smaller and therefore the selection is different than other ones in the area. There seems to be more variety in Salinas and Gilroy (but who wants to shop there?) The food court is pretty standard...I mean where else can you get a dog and a soda for $1.50? And a churro for another dollar! The rotisserie chicken that is sold in the store is also very good. There is fresh salmon that is in a container ready to pop in the oven. It's delicious! Lots of really cool stuff...sometimes the large packaging is an issue...it's more than I can use in a reasonable amount of time. I do like how the chicken is now packaged in smaller amounts. The best thing to do is shop with a friend you can share with and make sure you have room in your freezer! read more

My review goes to the food court. There are two bigs signs with "order here" and "pick up here". I paid for my food, so went to the other side to pick up my food. The old lady cashier was waving, seemed annoyed and wanted me to go back to give me my food. When I pointed at the "pick up here" sign, she pushed my food away rolling her eyes. All front employees seemed disorganized, the scale wasn't working to weigh the acai bowls and many of them were freaking out. I like this Costco - as I do all others. Only time I've gotten rude encounters is when my own demeanor isn't the nicest. Aloofness on their part does not mean they are rude. I understand that a high volume of customers and orders at the food court can be stressful. Lines can get long, which can result in customer impatience and shortnesd - not the checker's fault The food samplers have all quickly turned the package over to check labels without any fuss. Overall, when I smile, they smile. When I flirt, they flirt back. I am so impressed that the young pharmacy tech at the counter remembered my two pets names, Kai and Leilani, three weeks after she served me the 1st time as soon as I walked up without even looking me up. read more

Someone please do something about this tire center. They rested the hydraulic arms on the side of my vehicle. I mentioned it to the manager and he said I think it's fine maybe just have him lower it. I came in because we planned a weekend getaway and blew a tire on the side of the freeway so I pulled into the closest tire center. I mentioned to the guy I had a 10 day old baby and a toddler in the car and really needed to get in and out. He said there were 8 cars ahead of me. Fine, I stood around waiting while my family sat freezing in the Costco cafeteria. I waited around and watched as 4 guys walked around talking, and joked with each other while my car sat in the parking lot (there was 1 truck in the stall which they ended up pulling out and not changing any tires on) I waited for 2 hours. I only needed 1 tire replacement. This place is so ridiculous I can't believe they still have people showing up. read more

I shopped on 6/29 specifically for 2PKREVTARPS. Unable to find them, I went to the warehouse, where I met "Armundo" who proceeded to find where they were located on his intercom receiver. He advised me they were located in automotive, isle 114. He offered to escort me to that location, but I declined, thinking I could find it. Unable to locate them I looked for an employee where I had wandered to. " Matthew" also said they should be available. He went to look but could not find them and was told there was a pallet above. He came back to keep me updated and look for someone to get the pallet down. He came back two more times, and went to the trouble to find me a chair to wait for his return (I'm 89 years old). He finally brought them to me. If that wasn't enough for an excellent review, checking out at your new fast checkout, the girl working the area came up and lifted the tarps out and back into the basket for me. Costco is great. We go here for a lot of our shopping needs. They always have something interesting for sale and the prices and competitive. The parking is crazy on the weekends, but there is always a place to park if you don't mind doing a little walk. read more

Costco Sand City stores customer service has gradually been declining to what it is today. We had an issue with their staff quoting us a sale price over the phone and verify that the items were in stock ($1200 for 2 matching dressers) We immediately left from Salinas to go pick them up in Sand City. On our arrival, staff advised us they actually had less in stock than they'd told us 20 minutes prior. As well as that they'd made an error in the sale price. We spoke with someone e who identified himself as the Manager, Paul Siri, who refused to honor the sale price. He stated the sales person we spoke with should have told us the sale ended yesterday. He stated if we found the dresser set priced lower somewhere else, he would honor the price. But would not give us the sale price from yesterday at that Costco, nor honor his staffs word given to us. We asked if he would rather have no sale at all or give us the sale price (still over $1000), he stated he would not sell the dressers to us at their sale price. Poor business decision and customer service. This is the third similar experience recently with this particular Costco we have had. Once with a television, and once with a poor quality recliner (both high value items). At one time this Costco was known for their customer service, but at this point my wife and I will boycott it as well as discourage our family and friends. We will take our membership fees and weekly shopping to stores that value our money. If you must go to Costco for something, go to the Salinas or Gilroy one and save yourself the headache. If this review comes across Costco upper management, I would strongly recommend training/counseling employee Paul Siri (balding, middle aged, unshaven gentleman) on customer service and sales policy. read more

My wife and I have been Costco shoppers for years. Costco has great employees and customer service. I went inside to purchase a rott. chicken after a long day at work. I'm standing in the check out line waiting for the cashier to finish with the customer in front of me. this took about two or three minutes. I then noticed the cashier at the cashier closer to the food court engaged in a conversation with another employee. Their looking in my direction, however the cashier and his bagger never bothered to say I can take you over here, like I'm used to hearing when folks are in line. An Asian couple started loading their stuff behind me. These two employees continued with their conversation. I asked the cashier if he was open, I guess he didn't hear me. read more

For serious shoppers, COSTCO is the only way to go. There are three reasons why I'm a big COSTCO fan. (1) Their products are excellent. If they have something on their shelves, you can count on it being good quality. (2) COSTCO prices are great! I used to drive around trying to save money at some of the big discount stores. They almost never beat COSTCO. And I've spent a lot of time shopping on line -- you know, that really big site that starts with A? But, for comparable quality products, COSTCO consistently has the best value. (3) The employees treat me like I'm some sort of a VIP (I'm not). I have a standard membership, nothing special, but if I ever have a problem, COSTCO makes it right. Every time. No hassles! They treat their customers better than any business I know. On 4/3/2021, early Saturday morning, when I got to the Kiosk Pick Up line at the Food Court, two female employees were socializing and ignored me in the line. It was only after when they saw two other customers walked to the regular order line, the younger female employee decided to go to the cash register. The other female employee was hesitant to come to assist me immediately. After she waved her hand to me I approached to her and she scratched the line on my receipt. She was rushing away from me after she left my pizza plates not realizing she forgot to bring my Hot Dog order. I had to remind her by showing my receipt. Again, she was rushing away from me. Then, I asked her for some red pepper for my pizza. I felt as if she was getting irritated by me asking for it. As she was handing me the red pepper, she told me, " I am trying to get out of here". First, she was not attentive to the line and the to fill my order at once as she was supposed to. Second, I have nothing to do with her "trying to get out of here" situation. As a loyal customer for 30 years, I believe I should be treated with quality customer service by all Costco employees without prejudice. As an employee on the clock, this employee was not attentive to her duty. She did not show any urgency to help her customer. She made a comment that should have never been addressed to a customer. On the contrary, I have witnessed her socializing with police officers patrolling the area during the peak of COVID 19 on multiple occasions in the parking instead of performing her duty. She was crowd controlling when she was not socializing. if there is Zero Star option, I would give Zero Star to this employee. read more

This is only about the food court. I see everyone likes the cheap hot dogs and pizzas. I did too, until... Ever eat at the tables by the pick-up window and take a look over by the emergency exit door, and see that galvanized metal box on the floor? That's a commercial rat trap, folks. Where do you think those rats are going after hours? That was enough for me. I'll make my own hot dogs at home. Rats and mice are a major disease vector. If you see one, that means you have ten. Or more. And they like hot dogs and pizza even more than you do. Presumably the health department is inspecting them. Good enough for you? Not me. I'll eat somewhere where at least the rat traps aren't visible while you are dining. read more

So I usually avoid places like Costco like the plague. I went in once about eight years ago and I still get chills when I think about the super sized warehouse type products. Who on earth has enough space anywhere to place a massive jar of vitamins? That bottle of Vitamin C was as big as my coffee machine. Anywho, I dropped off a prescription at Pharmaca and went to pick it up - $220.00 bucks! I think not (see my reviews for Pharmaca - always five stars). So the good folks at Pharmaca tell me they will send my prescription off to Costco where it will be much cheaper. Yippee!! But not so much because I HATE Costco and avoid it all costs. I am not a member and I object to the warehouse on principle. Nonetheless, being somewhat of a cheapskate, I trudged over to Costco Pharmacy. I went through the front entrance and then hiked over to the Pharmacy counter (yes it is a hike from the entrance to any other area that you may want to be, luckily I was prepared for this and had kicked off my beautiful suede heels and put on my slippers in the car). I was totally blown away by how efficient, private and professional the service was at the Pharmacy department. The pharmacist had a long convo with me regarding this new medication and then he even put into some type of special computer what I was currently taking to see how it would interact with the new meds - just so no one thinks I am a pill junkie I have been struggled to quit smoking so started Chantix today - Hurray! I was so impressed with everything at Costco including helping myself to some magazines which I paged through while they ran my rebate card. This was at good as it gets. read more

However, I have been to a number of Costcos for their food court, and have had no problem. You will not receive any love from this one, unfortunately. This place was so ridiculous! I'm actually going to my hometown costco just to cancel my membership. I've been with them for several years and never experienced such terrible customer service. My boyfriend and I had a dead battery while on a road trip, that was KIRKLAND brand, and they could not at all find the purchaser of the battery. There were only two people in the world who would have bought it the batter, and they for some reason couldn't find the original damn purchaser, and refused to replace it. Even though it was KIRKLAND and still under warranty! Never buy their car batteries and save yourself the headache, they may or may not be able to find your receipt. (By the way, we were also told upon purchase that anyone with a membership can get it replaced for you as long as its under warranty. BS!) read more

I need 2 birthday cakes for surprise parties I was throwing on 2 different dates both being "over the hill" cakes and I needed a small favor to tweaking these cakes out a little bit she helped me with writing down exactly wanted I don't know if she decorated them the next day or not but these cakes came out AMAZING, people didn't believe me when I said they were from Costco. This Costco is pretty good. Staff are pleasant, and the warehouse is clean and orderly. I'm always a little sad that there is not nearly as much furniture as other Costco's, but perhaps its just too small of a building? My only complaint is their parking lot. They have these big divots in the parking lot. I fell one evening stepping in a divot in the dark, got a massive bruise on my knee and shin. They need to keep their parking lot in safer condition. read more

Less enamored with the place than I used to be. Some of the more expensive "gourmet" items have proven disappointing. Selection, like at any warehouse store, is limited. In just a few short months, products I like have come and gone. Not really worth the hassle for just a few items. I was scolded by one checker because I wasn't aware that they had changed preferred credit cards (how the hell would I know--your company was just recently making a big deal about accepting American Express). I keep expecting to encounter zombies there--dim and dreary, with slow moving customers blocking every avenue of escape. Likely that I will not renew my membership. read more

Vicky H. needs some lessons on providing better Customer Service. It's a shame that she's worked there since 2007 and still shows poor customer service. My husband and I went to return two items, she acted like my items were so dirty, never touched the items, ASKED me to take them out of the bag for her even though, it's untied and right in front of her, and that's her job to inspect the items, which she never did. Scanned my Costco Card, indicated that refund will go back to my debit card, I told her I wanted cash, she plainly said no, it's either back to the card or a gift card, I told her I have been to many Costcos and you may get cash when it's a debit card. She still insisted NO, so I asked for a supervisor, Ken, who came over and went against what she said, indicated that Cash is fine... This pissed her off, you can tell by her reaction, she refunded cash, but never counted the amount in front of me, and never handed the cash directly to me, instead, she slammed it down onto the table. All of this poor customer service in front of her supervisor---that tells you a lot about her personality and the poor training that they received at this location even from higher up. She's been there since 2007, worst Customer Service ever from any Costco that I have been to all over northern California and throughout Texas! read more

Returned three items, register broken. Wait for manager. Item now on sale, wait again for a manager to approve price change. Next item on sale, again wait for a manager to approve. No more cash refunds so I get my gift card, go shopping. Lines short, yea! Wait 10 minutes in line two people deep as cashiers try to up sell grandma and grandpa on digital photo Christmas cards. What are those? How do they work? Who is this "internet" person you keep mentioning and how do we contact him? Meanwhile fend off roving cashiers trying to sell me piazzas - same cashier solicited me three times in 2 minutes. Talk about no short term memory! My piazza will be cold by the time I get out of this hell. Yea, its my turn. Hand cashier membership card and two gift cards. Get total write check. Then cashier asks "Oh, did you want to use these gift cards?" Yes, the same ones she has been holding in her hands since the beginning of time. Of course I do! Write a new check for the corrected amount. Leave, dodge the three bums sleeping near my car. Pack up my stuff and I'm outta here forever. Only bright spot was the return lady who is 100% kirkland, as evidenced by the Kirkland label proudly displayed on her thong which she practically stuck in my face when bending over. My first and last visit to ghetto Kirkland. Oh, I forgot the guy at the door screaming "two lines people" in the volume and tone of Nazi soldier, barking at customers like they were dogs. read more

Between the two of them, they both just looked at me, one finally asked if I needed help, I wasn't sure where to start, he said nothing after I told him I wasn't sure where to start. One of the worst Costcos I've been to. It has less selection than all the other Costcos I've been to. When you look at it from the outside, you'd think it's the biggest Costco in the world, but once you go inside, it has more space then other Costcos. Less samples too. DO NOT GO HERE FOR TIRE SERVICE I suspect they sabotaged my wheel. Went there for warranty service. They said Oh, cannot replace just one tire, wanted me to buy another before they were willing to replace the one tire even though the tires had less than a few thousand miles on them. THIS IS BS (confirmed it with my mechanic friends as well as another more trust-worthy Costco tire center). After a lot of discussion, they finally agreed to honor the warranty and replace the one bad tire. Then they tell me the wheel was ready, but when I got there, had to wait an hour before they got me my wheel. Now I'm having problems with vibration on that wheel. (Did they put something inside?!) Don't know, never go there again. read more

Went to the optometrist located in the Sand City Costco (Dr. Keith Ballin). The equipment was not cleaned (usually they come in and wipe down the equipment with an alcohol pad between each patient). The doctor did not wash his hands in between patients, either! Would recommend not going to this place. Eye diseases can be spread easily... read more

This review is for the independent optometrist, Keith M. Ballin, who works at this Costco. Dr. Ballin's office is unprofessional and untrustworthy. I went there for a contact lens prescription just a little over a year ago (I have a regular ophthalmologist in LA, but I'm temporarily in Monterey for grad school). When I tried to order my regular shipment of contacts last week, I was informed that my prescription had expired. I called the office to discuss this and spoke with Dr. Ballin's receptionist, Pamela. She told me that contact lens prescriptions are only good for one year. This was the first I'd ever heard of this, so I asked if it was Dr. Ballin's personal office policy. Pamela said, "no, it's California state law." In truth, the law (which can be found here: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=bpc&group=02001-03000&file=2540-2545 ) states that contact lens prescriptions are good for a MINIMUM of 1-2 years. When I asked Pamela about this, she was silent for a moment, and then said, "well, it's up to the doctor." So, I asked if Dr. Ballin could extend my prescription to last until his next available appointment, which was not until June. At this point Pamela became extremely rude and unpleasant. She angrily informed me that it was "very, very rare for Dr. Ballin to even consider something like this." Later, she called me back and said that Dr. Ballin had been "kind enough" to allow me to purchase just one more box of contacts. "Kind enough"?? How condescending can you get? Needless to say, Dr. Ballin has lost my business. Bottom line: Dr. Ballin's office lied to me about California state law in order to get me back into the office for an expensive exam. They were angry and rude when I called them on it. Find somewhere else. read more

Cassandra at the food court is EXTREMELY rude! I stood in line and purchased my items at the food court, as always they are understaffed and overworked. Apparently she had set aside on the counter (where the items I ordered) a slice of pizza for a Costco employee who was standing behind me. How was I supposed to know? I just grabbed all the items she had placed on the counter and tried to get out of the way as fast as I could. As I was getting my drink she shouts from her cash register in front of the entire food court " EXCUSE ME YOU TOOK AN EXTRA PIECE OF PIZZA THAT WASN'T YOURS". How embarrassing, again I just grabbed all the items she had placed on the counter. After spending $250 on groceries this employee is accusing me of trying to steal a piece of pizza. She then proceeded to say that since I touched he pizza she was unable to accept it back. That being said, if you know you can't take the pizza back why even spend the energy yelling as loud and as rudely as you can that I took the stupid pizza. Long story short I spoke to a supervisor who apologized profusely and promised she would address Cassandra. I hope she did because you do not talk to anyone like that!!!! read more

Just wanted to give a shout out for Dustin at the Costco Sand City Tire Center! I brought my car in on Saturday morning to have a leaky tire repaired and although the wait was three hours I spent part of that time waiting at the tire center and observed first hand how efficient he is . . .handled a steady stream of customers, answered phones and resolved problems and did it all maintaining a pleasant attitude! Great Multi-tasker!!! I got my tire repaired plus I had a nail in a second tire that couldn't be repaired that required a new tire under warranty! Worst customer service ever it was my moms birthday and I ask the bakery people if they can write my mom name in a cake the lady told me she didn't have time I was like what you don't have time ok don't have time ok then as I was leaving she said but if you want to I was like no you told me you don't have time to do it so I would go somewhere else never going there for a cake ever again. read more

Went in this morning at got my membership from Christy! She was super nice and very personable. I have only been in Costcos in Sacramento and Reno, where they are virtual nightmares from parking to leaving to store and all the wonderful things in between. Today being a Sunday, I was dreading going there. But to my surprise, it was pretty easy to get around in the parking lot and the store. Pretty decent size. Seriously lacking in the DVD and music section compared to other Costcos. read more

First off I want to start by saying it's not Costco's fault they are running on limited stock due to the coronavirus hysteria. I never planned on hoarding more than I needed on 03/07/2020 before things got really bad I stood in a line outside at 10am had no clue of what was going on but I stayed, I had to stand in a line to get water that I actually wanted and needed and I bypassed the toilet tissue, I called my husband and asked him if we needed tissue and he said yes, I tried to come back around and I explained to SHANNON the line monitor apparently that I bypassed it because I didn't know if I needed it and she very very rudely told me I needed to get back in the line I already stood in to have another chance to get what I needed. Even that is not the problem I understand the line BUT HER ATTITUDE, made me rethink my whole entire game plan of taking what I need. So I've been in this line for 5 days trying to get tissue paper all because I passed it ONE TIME and left it on the shelf and I regret it since I did it. Fast forward to a new day Costco finally has Lysol wipes I'm not quite out yet, but I can't miss my chance to get some because who knows right? They put them at the front door and I grab 2, one for my shopping partner who went ahead as I go to the back to get in the water line AGAIN SHANNON WITH THE BAD ATTITUDE tells me "you can only have 1" I told her "I know" and she said "well im just telling you because they are going to take them from you at the register". SOMEONE at this Costco needs to teach miss Shannon about customer service, and "its not what you say, it's how you say it". SHANNON should be grateful I had my son with me every time I had to interact with her or else they would have probably been cutting my Costco card up in my face. On a positive note the rest of the team is very helpful and pleasant EXCEPT SHANNON. Costco needs to get themselves a new line monitor because Shannon belongs where there is no human interaction. Her delivery, her tone of voice, her facial expression, and making an ass of herself by jumping to conclusions makes me think Shannon from sand city Costco doesn't belong in the customer service business because she is horrible under pressure. read more

The quality of the items that I have purchased in the last 5 years or so has exceeded my expectations! As an added bonus, if I have had any problems with an item it is returnable. The customer service is helpful and friendly and even though it is a large warehouse type shoppping store, I have noticed that I am remembered when I shop there. The kids enjoy having a hotdog once in awhile too. read more
