[[HIGHLIGHT]]Costco in Sand City is great--lots of selection, good deals, and the staff here is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We were staying in the Monterey area and found out that there was a Costco about a mile away from the hotel. I enjoying checking Costco when traveling to different cities to see if the store cares products unique to the area. There was ample parking and the store was good sized and was not busy for a late Friday morning. Nice selection of wine and spirts but did not find any unique items here. Happy to have been able to check out another Costco.

Came to this Costco mostly to get gas and kill some time inside. Ended up buying a hoodie for $15 and some food court foods. The newish turkey sandwich for $7 is interesting but definitely not worth it. This location was reasonably crowded as well but nothing out of the norm for a Costco.

People waiting for Costco to open

Wait! What's going on? This isn't Black Friday it's normal Wednesday, right? People lined up to get in the store that won't open for 30 minutes. I don't know for sure but maybe it's time to buy more Costco stock. I am here too, sadly, thinking the store would open at 9:00- they decided to change the hours and didn't tell anyone. Nobody is complaining. In fact it's Social,Hour - people yakking it up. Waiting. I think I'm in a different Galaxy Heading here for a quick pick up of the usual paper products, waters, etc. Only I'm not early. Haha. Once inside I'm reminded why people shop here. Quality name brand products. Very low cost and a tremendous no questions asked return policy. I decided to peruse the wine department and again was blown away -- anything from very good low cost selections to high end choices you might not expect. Like $300 a bottle stuff. Nice to have choices. I won't go into all the choices just to say every-time I go to the store the inventory changes. It's really the fun thing about the place. And it keeps people coming back.with prices up everywhere on everything it's refreshing to see Costco keeping its low pricing objective in tact. Go, you won't be disappointed.

Fruits and veggies are superior to all the other stores. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The associate manning the food court (short hair) is fantastic - no name badge, but doing it all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cashier we had was unpleasant, rushed and seemed bothered we were there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This review is for the food court. Amazing prices. I mean $1.50 for a hotdog and a soda?! You can't beat that price. My visit was on 8/19/2023 and they have STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM!!!! Sooo yummy. Just try it. My only complaint about the food court is the lack of organization. On the side of the food court there are several self serve tablets to order as well as the option to order when you are checking out with your cashier. I don't think that should allow ordering at the actual pick up counters, it holds up the line and I can tell the employees are frustrated, however, they still allow it. Also, please print the calories in smaller print... no one needs to know their pizza is 710 calories *** just joking***

Icing and splinting my middle finger after hurting it lifting the core car battery as instructed by cashier
    Tsung S.

I went to the tire store on the side of the main store hoping to get full service for buying the battery but turns out they only sell batteries to be carried out. That's fine and not a problem, since it's literally their business model that they cannot change. Ordered the battery anyways expecting the battery was the issue for my own car not able to start the last 2 days without a jump. Asked if I could borrow any tools to change myself and they didn't have any. Only that I could go get some inside Costco itself and buy some tools. For a place with tools on the inside and no service from the store, please at least have some tools on loan for other's convenience. Again perhaps it's liability they were worried about. No matter. I drove to o'reilly's after and got tools and changed the battery out myself. When asked the cashier whether they have a cart to wheel out the battery as I came in with a baby in a stroller, he told me to go get a cart. I had hoped that he would help me with wheeling it out to the car with me but it was perhaps too much for him. I ended up getting a cart, put the battery in. Looked at the stroller and the cart and myself, took the stroller apart and put my car seat and stroller into the cart and wheeled it out myself. I was actually proud of my genius solution! Still upbeat and on my way. Decided that I didn't want to carry the core battery in the car for the rest of my new year trip from sacramento to LA and back, I brought back the battery to the store for core refund. The other cashier was friendly but said, "do me a favor and put the battery on the cart on the side." I thought ok this is self service ALL THE WAY HUH?" But guess what, I'm not a baby, sure I'll do it. As I try to lift the battery up from the shopping cart with my finger tips, I heard a SNAP! And my middle finger gave way! I was in shock but I quickly gathered myself and used my pointing finger and got the battery onto the cart it was supposed to go on to. I noticed some battery pick up tool on the cart but had no explanations, and I didn't want to misuse it and drop the battery onto my toes or anything. Got my $15 cash from the cashiers and a numb middle finger... My Middle finger has been numb since the incident and it's 2 days later. I drove through the crazy rain through this trip thinking whether my career is on the line from this incident. Surely hoped they would have at least told me how to use the battery pick up clamp or even just do it themselves! I already wheeled it in with the shopping cart that was their official answer for wheeling batteries in and out of the store. On the bonus, their gas station is 2 blocks away and very confusing to get to. For a non local, I wasted another 20 minutes trying to find it while still in shock over my numb finger... I'm probably more livid because of my injury but come on! do your job and pick up the core yourself! Not going to be Mr nice guy here and get myself hurt next time.

Eggs and dairy located in an odd location
    Ramy H.

This location has a sort of funky layout compared to most newer Costco's. One of the odd things is that the gas station is located across the road from the actual store. The store itself feels smaller than other Costco's in the Bay Area. Because of this, you do not find certain items in as much of a variety, such as furniture or outdoor "toys" like kayaks, beach chairs, etc... which is sort of odd if you think about it because this location is less than a mile from the beach. During the colder season, you'll find a small selection of holiday decorations, and gift baskets, but - again - options are more limited than other stores. For your staple items like eggs, meats, baked goods, this location consistently has those items in stock, but the eggs and dairy are located inside of a walk-in cooler, hidden in the back of the store. Tip: See photo for reference!

The first item scanned is the Kirkland extra olive oil.

Never in my 24 years of life on this earth have I seen a store quite like this. Every single aisle is full of trash and empty boxes (both broken down and not) and every shelf is half empty, but don't worry, I'm sure one of the 3 things u came in here to get are here somewhere, you just gotta look around the whole store cuz its probably in the absolute last place u would think to look. I came in here for a folder for my school work, and I didn't find it the school supplies isle, of course, cuz that would be too easy. They really make u really work for it, but I truly believed in my heart that there was a single folder somewhere in this dungeon, so I searched high and low, and ended up finding one on the complete other side of the store underneath an opened, half eaten bag of chips. I'm baffled about how corporate is unaware of this store, because if they did it would be shut down that same day. This is nuts lmao i know it's a dollar tree so I don't expect it to be bougie like Safeway, but I never could have imagined I would be walking into a store that looks like a literal tornado flew through it. The second we tried to correct the situation and initiate a return, the games started. Endless runaround, nobody calls back, corporate customer service doesn't exist. Every single person points you somewhere else and suddenly nobody has the authority to help. What really crossed the line was the way the delivery team treated my client directly. She is visibly cognitively impaired and confused, and instead of showing patience or compassion, they were rude and dismissive to her face. Watching grown adults speak that way to a vulnerable elder was honestly appalling. I eventually had to go into the store in person because they refused to handle anything over the phone. The employee "helping" me told me his title was "manager" but refused to give an actual title, a business card, or provide supervisor information when asked. Then the entire interaction became bizarrely focused on another employee named Alvin, who sold the mattress in the first place. Instead of helping resolve the issue, this man became completely fixated on whether Alvin had told me he was a manager or not. He repeatedly implied I was lying, told me he "doesn't like when people tell different stories," and spent more time interrogating me about internal employee drama than helping an elderly woman with dementia who never should have been sold this mattress to begin with. I was also repeatedly told to "relax" and not to "rush him." The whole experience felt intentionally exhausting and obstructive, like the goal was simply to wear us down until we gave up. I work professionally with seniors and families navigating dementia. People are already overwhelmed enough dealing with medical issues, caregiving, finances, and decline. Watching a company happily take thousands of dollars from a cognitively impaired elder and then turn the return process into a hostile, chaotic mess is shameful. Take your money elsewhere. Monterey doesn't need businesses operating like this.
