Tire service needs a lot of help in the customer service dept. called several times no answer. Finally got answer and dude said he needed to walk to the desk to arrange my appt. 6 minutes later I'm disconnected. Called the main office to complain and they just transferred me back to "on hold hell". I just renewed my membership after boycotting them for a year due to their incompetence. Sold my Costco shares last year due to my concerns about their deteriorating customer service. I called the Salinas Costco and had no problems reaching them in Tire Service. I'm willing to drive an extra hour to avoid the fools in Sand City. read more

The ONLY thing I hate about Costco is their support of liberal agenda... Other than that the pricing is really very inexpensive and their own brand of many items is just as good or better than name brand! My weekly staples as the pricing is crazy cheap is: kale, bananas, strawberries, spinach, broccoli, frozen fruits, butter, Clorox wipes, paper plates, white artichoke pesto sauce, organic ravioli's, lemon juice, garlic powder and crushed garlic and chips! It is a fact, if you love free food, you must love costco. my dad is a firm believer that if you buy two of everything, you save in the long run. HA. yea dad. but i always tag along and come for the free samples. (the best samples are in the back by the freezer sections). You usually find some cute little old lady cutting and baking something and putting it in little napkins. I call it the "little old lady appeal". Every once in a while you'll find a young teenage guy serving up samples, but that;s ok, cuz they usually dont care however many samples you take...tell them it's for your ten little siblings. And they have cheapest and BEST polish sausages in the world. cant have that without onions and mustard. Waited in line for pick up. Told my number was not up yet, and to wait until my number to be called. Waited 20 more minutes. Not 1 single number was called. Ridiculous. The sad part is that this can be easily fixed. Method one: Put up a digital counter. Method two: Premake 5 pizzas of each variety. It is obvious they sell a lot of pizzas during peak times. I called in to order a pizza since I was going to be doing a quick shopping run at Costco anyway, and I thought I would save myself some time by ordering ahead. The man that answered the phone was so beyond rude I had to hang up on him. I didn't have access to my membership card so he refused to take the order. I guess they need the membership number to complete the order, which is fine I understand BUT this guys attitude was way out of line! He told me not to bother to come in if I don't have a membership card because he won't give me the pizza! (Keep in mind I never said that I don't have one, I just said I don't have mine on me so Ill just order when I get there) And to top it all off, when I got there he never asked to see it! This review is specifically about the Cellular Kiosk at Costco Sand City / Monterey. I cannot recommend this kiosk highly enough; in particular, Jon K. - who was savvy, informed and absolutely relentless in working with T-Mobile corp. in what can only be described as a Kafkaesque experience. And that T-Mobile moment? It began many days prior and - without exaggeration - involved nearly 6 hours on the phone with everyone from frontline sales reps to supervisors, the validation department and reps at a T-Mobile store in San Francisco... none of whom had an clue how to get anything done. I wish that I didn't just write that; and I wish even more that I could somehow recoup the many, many hours I worked with them to transition an existing AT&T account to T-Mobile... while adding two new iPhone 6s. What I won't do is bore you with the details of the T-Mobile saga; what I will say is that they made it incredibly difficult to do business with them.. and that if I weren't setting up the account on behalf of family, I would have long since elected another carrier. Ex.: T-Mobile (800#): You have to go to a store with your account #. T-Mobile (Store): We have no record of your account #; call the 800 # Me: ? Imagine that Groundhog Day scenario, but for 6 hours on the phone... with pleasant but really incompetent reps who apologize but can't get anything done. And then we got to Jon, who made it his mission on the slow Saturday morning to end the madness; he recognized from outset what was happening - and worked with T-Mobile corp / 800 # and, without skipping a beat (surely exasperated by the run around, as well) picked up another phone at the same time to place a call to his T-Mobile rep to work another angle... all while helping another customer who'd come in to activate a line. And he kept plugging away, and plugging away and plugging away - especially after the T-Mobile 800# reps insisted that we'd have to go on-site to a T-Mobile retail store to complete the transaction... Jon was able to resolve what no one at T-Mobile - not even the Regional T-Mobile Rep - was able to do. And he spent several hours doing it, ultimately finding a solution to what, at the source, was T-Mobile error and ineptitude. General Costco Advantage: they throw in a free accessories pack & provide rebate Monterey/Sand City Kiosk Advantage: they've got Jon; and he's smart (knew the product, the plans, the benefits and minutiae of each etc.), savvy-practical (knew how to get things done and escalate w/ T-Mobile) and absolutely on-the-ball. The place is amazing! I am a true Costco shopper. I've experienced the joy of Hawaii Costco, the shear abundance of Las Vegas Costco, the pandemonium of San Francisco Costco. In short, I am a Costco officionado, and can tell you with complete certainty that this is the best Costco. They have fancy food for high end dinner party people. They have elaborate spices for foodie types. They have furniture for "getting started" new couples. They have baby stuff for families. They have awesome gift baskets for "oh crap it's Christmas, better get some stuff all at one place, cause I have no free time" kinda folks. They have good jewelry. They have great electronics. They have easy parking. They have short lines, even on holidays. In short, even if you don't live in Monterey, make the drive. While on vacation our vehicle acquired a slow leak in one tire. We were thrilled to see a Costco right next to our hotel. We brought our vehicle in first thing when they opened. They told us it would be an hour to an hour and a half before it was done. It has now been 3.5 hours and they haven't touched the tire. Half the day is gone and we are still sitting here waiting. Your typical Costco! We stopped in this location because we couldn't find our favorite pretzel crisps at the Novato location. The set up of this Costco was more like the one in Rohnert Park. It was teeming with people like all Costco's on a Sunday. However, everything was laid out perfectly and the customer service was no different when I asked where my item would be located. Everybody knows about the huge slices of cheesy, and other, Pizza along with the hot dogs, right.. (And the whole ginormous pizza for 9.99) And I'm sure you know of the chicken bake, churro, etc... Ladies and gentlemen have you tried the newest addition of THE HOT SANDWICH? Seriously amazed at how great it was for the price. If i remember correctly on a ciabatta type bread with turkey (and ham?) cheese, onion and a pesto spread! I do not remember the sandwich to the T, but you get the idea... The pesto spread really made it. GO AND TRY ONE, just 3.99. It really is the best sandwich you could get under five dollars... kicks Subway sandwiches in the ass. I mean, the lot is large enough, but man I always feel like I'm gonna be run down here. This is a combined review for signing up as a member and tire service center. TIRE SERVICE CENTER: Since I've been needing new tires and been looking around. I thought why not Costco. I looked up reviews for the tire service center, but read that it's horrible. Plus I couldn't find a review on here for the tire center. My experience here was really fantastic. C(S)easar helped me out. Everything went smoothly. There was no upselling anything. Paid for the tires and waited. I just got my windshield replaced like 5 minutes before I went in and even asked if they could be careful with slamming the doors per windshield guy's order. He said absolutely. However, I didn't watch them so I can't say yay or nay. I liked that he at least made me feel like they were going to be careful. MEMBERSHIP: Walked around Costco, but didn't buy anything since it's not my shopping day. I used my boyfriend's membership and looked at the receipt. I didn't like his name being there when I paid for it. Yeah, I'm picky. I haven't gotten a membership, but have been using his card under his parents. It was time to make the jump. I already knew what I wanted....a GOOD DEAL! So I got the executive member. Ohhhh sounds so fancy. Hello, I'm an executive member of this club....lol. Wells, the guy who was signing me up was nice to talk to. He didn't even have to sell me anything. I wanted it. It was pretty painless. We even got a free diet coke because someone didn't want it anymore. So all in all I paid $109 bucks. Oh wait! There's more! Me being a cheapy and like...errr LOVE FREE THINGS. I asked is there any FREEBIES with signing up. He said like what. I was like like I've heard you get like a cash card and a free chicken. He said, "Oh I don't know about chicken, but you do get a cash card." This is ONLY if you mention the cash card. Sweet here's the breakdown. Executive Membership Fee: $110.00 Free Diet Coke: - $1.00 Free Costco Cash Card: - $20.00 ------------------------------------------------------- Final Price : $ 89 bucks! Not a biggie since I honestly don't care and it's happened to me sooo many times. The guy spelled my last name wrong twice on the card. He "fixed" it, printed a new one with the same mistake. I had to redo a picture for it to be right. At least I got to keep the mistake. They also transferred my purchase of tires onto my membership so I can get 2% cash back which is sweeeeet. Costco has great values. Just plan to buy two to three times as much as you thought you would. We always come with a list and buy almost twice as much as we planned. If you want good meat, they have the best; better than your butcher cause they turn it over much faster. The same is true with all other food goods, they move them quickly. Need TP or paper towels, they have the best deals. If you want a $3,000 Nikon camera, they have it also. If you see it and like it, buy it 'cause it may not be here next week. They move the merchandise. Bring cash, your Discover Card or your American Express. They do not take Visa or Mastercharge. Good place for good prices and quality products. This is just strictly for the tire service. These guys here are rude. I have interacted with two of them and they are just not happy people. Reuben helped me when I first went in person to take a look at some tires. He was nice and helpful then. But when I called to make an appointment he was rude and condescending. Come to the day of my appointment, I decided last minute to just not show up. Not like they care anyways, I'm sure they get a lot of business. But I will not tolerate people who treat other people like crap for no reason. I'm sorry if you guys constantly have bad days, but no excuse to take it out on your customers. You don't like your job, find one that you do like. I ended up going to peninsula tire. Their customer service is OUTSTANDING. Plus I am supporting a local business. Not only did he beat costcos price on the tires I wanted, he is even doing the alignment, costco doesn't do this stuff. A lot of the times, a Costco is just a Costco. A lot usually depends on how fast their checkers are, or what kind of goods that one stocks. Well I can tell you, this one has found a way to separate themselves from others. It was New Year's Eve and I had just moved from Sacramento, that day. I came in at 5:30 thinking that they closed at 6, the automated phone line had said so. It turns out that all stores were actually closing at 5. So I pulled up and saw the entrance closed, but the exit open. I decided to come out and ask them what was going on. You can tell that they were getting beat up over this repeatedly and just wanted the sweet relief of death. They explained about the mix up and apologized, but also went a step further. They asked was there anything in particular that I absolutely needed, and I replied "Dogfood". My little girl (2 year old Black Lab) is a little bit of a porker, so if there isn't any food for her, somebody is getting cut! So I told them that everything else could wait, but lordy could I use the dog food. So they had someone run back, grab a bag, and meet me up front to pay for it quickly. I did not solicit this extra service, it was on their own accord. This still managed to muster enough cheer to honestly wish me a happy new year and one of them even gave me a hug. They truly made a life long customer out of me. If I have the option of getting an item one place, or at Costco, it will now be Costco. read more

They consistently understaff the checkout counters. Salinas Costco employees are friendly, outgoing, and appreciate having a job. And they open registers so you can pay and leave. Sand City employees have attitudes (although Raquel was very helpful today). Maybe it is the department. The bakery staff tries to help. The Food Court slacks. "Don A" acted like she didn't care if I got my barbecue sandwich or not. I will always shop in Salinas if I have a choice. read more

Costco is Costco: either you like being able to get a deal on mass quantities or you don't. We do. The downside of Costco is that many items are temporary, and you have to learn what's available now versus what's always available. It's harder than it sounds, but that's also the nature of their business. For the most part, I have had good experiences at this Costco. However, I really don't care for the tattoos and facial piercings on some of the employees: it's both unprofessional and unappetizing. Do the managers not realize that the people on the floor are literally the face of the company, and that those people need to be reasonably pleasant to look at? I'm not asking for potential model material, just no metal in their faces and no visible tattoos. I'm pleasantly surprised by how many of the food items are made in the USA. However, you have to be careful about the rest of the stuff: a lot of it is made in China, infamous for its poisonous toothpaste (exported to Australia), poisonous pet food (exported to America), poisonous pot stickers (exported to Japan), and lead-containing toys. Even so, they had some beautiful Italian-made wool slacks recently, so it's worth it to check the label. My biggest complaint about the clothing selection is the dearth of things in men's small. Not every American male is a behemoth--howzabout stocking things for those of us who are on the left side of the bell curve for height? Some good things: good bread in the bakery; good meat from the meat department; good selection of wine and liquor; good Polish dogs in the food court (also available in the refrigerator section to take home); good selection of produce; good take-n-bake pizzas; good prices on staples like TP, paper towels, diapers, water, eggs, and coffee. So what are you waiting for? Join and start saving $$$ on all kinds of products! First time at this Costco since we were on a day trip to Monterey. Very large and clean store that had good COVID protocols and not too busy. It's always interesting how you find items you don't see at home. Since it's basically a tourist destination, my husband was able to find some nice Hawaiian type shirts and shorts. And the Costco bakery had Raspberry Crumble Cookies that were delicious. Too bad we can't get them at home. All in all a fortuitous trip. read more

In general, I trust Costco's products and am impressed with the quality of their Kirkland brand. I do have a bone to pick with their take-home and cook food. I carefully read ingredients labels for all pre-made convenience food. I steer away from Safeway's deli because I just don't trust the quality; it's just prejudice. But Costco's deli stuff like enchiladas and pastries make me reconsider their superior quality. For instance, their magazine touted some Danish pastries made with margarine. Come on, you can't even argue that that plastic butter's healthier anymore. Use shortening if you must, preferably real butter,but artificial flavor and color, plus trans fat equals a cheap product. Used to go to this Costco at least once a week. No more. Understand Costco has to take measures due to the virus, but certain employees sure do seem to enjoy treating members/customers like animals and criminals. And the members have to PAY to be treated this way. Thing that got me was seeing an employee yank a box of gloves out of my basket with a huge grin. "Only one!" There was no sign on the glove display indicating a limit. Fine. Costco has great pizza and many good products, but shopping there isn't worth my self-respect. I've always been a fan all my life of Costco going in with my parents to shop, so now since I've lived on my own I also followed suit in getting my own. As usual, they have great stuff to offer but I usually go in for bulk toilet paper, paper towels, frozen goods, drinks and the food court. It's only small purchases I come out with since I mainly shop for myself but I'm acquiring new roommates so that'll change. BUT... I do have two gripes about this Sand City Costco where I signed up for my first membership: 1) I don't take too kindly to the sub-par attitudes of the food court workers. I work in a Jamba kiosk so I know how to deal with food service, but despite it bein busy here you should know how to deal with bulk amounts of members in a friendly manner. If you don't like your jobs, just leave! 2) I went to renew my membership (and downgrade to gold star) last month and the gal who was "helping" me had a bad attitude. She was like "yeah sure, renew, meh meh meh." or something but man, I have off days too and don't act like that even while not working. I was luckily in a good mood at the time so I wasn't pissed enough to get a manager or even let her know that her tone was not acceptable. Don't know what her problem was. The Haves: Applewood Smoked, Non-Nitrate Thick-Cut Bacon Organic Bolthouse Farms Carrot Juice Organic OJ Organic Whole Milk Organic Greek Yogurt (Large Plain or with fruit in cups) Organic Grass-fed Ribeye 6 pack (Not sure if this is a regular product, but I found it here) The Have-Nots: Smoked Salmon (non-sliced one) - Although to be fair, I'm not sure, b/c I haven't looked. I went to the Optical Department at Costco. I waited for several minutes to be helped. Two employees were assisting one member and ignored my presence. Then, a young lady named Joselyn came back from her break. As she was taking off her jacket, she said, I'll be right with you. She immediately asked the other members if they had been helped and I was next in line. I had purchased two RX glasses a year ago at Costco and they were missing nose pads. Joselyn repaired the glasses and cleaned them! I asked her what I owed and she said nothing, it's part of their service! I was Wowed! She's an asset to the Costco family! Costco Tire Center.... WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. I have 2 main reasons why I feel this way. Number 1.. THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE. Even if you get your call transferred and the main office says that they will radio the dept. to answer their phone, THEY STILL WILL NOT ANWSER. Number 2... EMPLOYEES IN THIS DEPARTMENT HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. Especially an employee named Rob. This said employee looked, spoke and acted so unprofessional it was astonishing. He set the bar for worst employee I've ever had to interact with. When my husband and I entered the tire center to buy just one battery there was no one to be found other than other clients waiting. When Rob appears he greets us by saying "wassup guys" but then completely ignores us after and goes on to ask the other people sitting what car they were waiting for. Which on a side note he was completely unprofessional with them as well but I'll refrain from that story and tell you why I'm upset. After he concludes with them, he asks us why we are here and my husband in one word says "battery" and in reply Rob says " fasho a battery" and once he finds the type of battery we need he has the audacity to say to my husband "It's number 11 go ahead and grab the battery bro my backs broke". Which was outrageously inappropriate behavior. It would be understandable if he had explained his situation if his back was indeed causing him pain or even if he at least showed the slightest bit of remorse or embarrassment that he had to ask my husband to go around the counter and grab the battery himself but that was not the case. While Rob is getting the paperwork ready for our purchase he is speaking to another employee that appeared and is having a full blow conversation about how the other employee should raincheck a girl and how he (Rob) is going to take his employees man card and all this (excuse my language) bullshit. They were bullshitting with each other while my husband and I are waiting patiently right in front of him. While I love the Sand City Costco and Ive never really had a problem with the warehouse, I now HATE going into the tire center. read more

When you read all the reviews, one thing is clear. Reviews before the virus are, for the most part, good. But, now Costco has succumbed to being a machine with no heart. But, this is not my complaint. My family love the mint chip frozen yogurt bars. On the last three trips, we have noticed they all have "freezer burn". The first time it happened, we thought it was a fluke. Then it happened on the second trip. During this time, we thought it a big hassle to return. Today, we bought two more boxes, thinking it couldn't possibly happen again. Well, it did. Both boxes are freezer burned. It is obvious that Costco is not getting their frozen products in their freezer in a timely manner and foods are being re-frozen and ruined. I want my money back, but I don't wish to wait in line and put myself in any more unnecessary contact. So, Costco, do better! read more
