I had tried on a few frames a couple days ago so knew which ones I liked. The tech, Leon, gave me great feedback on the styles. I decided and he got all the info but my insurance doesn't kick in until May so we decided I'd wait till then. I really just want to give Leon the shoutout! Dr. Tran was fantastic. Before seeing the doctor they have you look into some machines. Very fast and easy, and very friendly. Then I met with the doctor and went over everything and looked into more machines, etc, etc. Overall it was great, my contacts fit great, I feel like a whole new person. Quick appointment booking. Eye Exam: $125 ($80 after my insurance) -Call main Costco number to connect to Optometrist Office for appointment & to see if they take your vision insurance, I was able to be secure an appointment for the next morning when I called for an appointment. -My exam lasted about 30 minutes and my optometrist was Dr. Banwait- very knowledgeable & answered any questions I had. *You don't have to be a Costco member to be seen at this Optometry Office! Costco Optical: Grab a ticket number! -Jessica was my tech: She was extremely helpful with selecting good fitting glasses and explained everything clearly. -Can get busy so I highly recommend coming in during the week. -Insurance can only be checked at time of checkout. I paid $200 for Kate Spade eye glasses with lenses (includes anti scratch, glare, blue light protection) & Nicole Miller Sunglasses (I chose Transitions Drivewear lenses) after a $50 Costco promo discount & insurance! I came into Costco to get contact lenses since I finished my last batch! I alternate between glasses and contact lenses, but with the sunnier seasons, contact lenses are my go to. Sunglasses with a prescription can get costly, and I have a few favorite sunglasses already - why not put those on? I ended up coming in person since the online process takes time between the optometrist, Costco, and dispatch. I heard coming in store was much easier, and the process was no longer than 15 minutes. I waited in line to get started and majority of the wait was just filling out my delivery address and form! I didn't leave with contact lenses same day, but it sounds like it's fairly rare to leave same day with them. I haven't received the lenses yet but they should be coming 8 days (6days excluding weekend) after placing the order! Overall I'd recommend placing an order here. The downside is I have to come in person for reorders. read more

I used to see Dr Zarnegar Golnar, but she has apparently retired. Henry Hua is the current optometrist. It was a pleasant experience. He seemed really knowledgable and was conscious of price when advising different types on contacts I could get. He wrote me a prescription for two different brands and let me decide which one to take/use. Without insurance, the comprehensive exam was $75 and the contact lenses fitting was $40. The prescription I was provided lasts 2 years and 1 year respectively. I was in and out within 40 minutes and they accepted HSA. Would recommend if you're looking for something relatively affordable and quick. read more

First of all, Costco only has opticians. That is, they only FILL prescriptions. No doctor. Although there is an independent optometrist inside of the Costco location. This review is for COSTCO vision dept . I have been very happy the service . The staff here is knowledgeable , friendly, patient, and will even call your doctor if there are any questions about the prescription. I have ordered con tact lenses through them for myself, and also taken my elderly mom there to choose glasses. Costco has the glasses displayed in tiers, according to price point, which makes it super easy to choose something starting with cost. To my surprise my picky 101 yr old mother found a pair in 5 mins and she LOVES THEM. She tells everyone.. " can you believe they were only 65$?! read more

WARNING DO NOT GO INTO THIS location. We got a glasses and contact prescription done. At the end of the visit he charged us 190$ cash specifically then when the patient stated the prescription was very blurry for her, he then assured us her prescription was correct and she had to adjust to the prescription, 3 weeks later we've gotten a look from two other doctors have given the patient the exact same prescription and not the one this Costco doctor did. This doctor gave the patient so off that we could have seen negative effects from his negligence health wise. This is not acceptable. read more

Both the optometrist and the optical department answered none of my questions and just kept transferring me back and forth telling me to talk to someone else. I just needed help seeing how to get started with their process since it's obviously not the same as my usual spot. I know the optometrist is independent so it's clear he just used that excuse to shrug me off telling me I had to talk to Costco employees in optical. Waited 30 mins patiently for them to tell me I had to go back to the optometrist and schedule my appointment. Why can't I just get this basic information sooner? I talked to the front office, the optometrist and the optical department just to be told pretty much nothing. Took like 1-2 hrs just to figure out if they are appointment only or not (they are). So if you want to try them out for eye glasses like I wanted. Call their optometrist or another one you know and schedule your eye exam. If you already know what you need go straight to optical. Once you have the details for your lenses they'll help you find a pair of frames. After that they'll place your order and you'll wait 1-3 weeks. I left an extra star because this was all due to bad customer service. The actual product may be worth looking into. read more

Note that, unlike Dr. Zarnegar, Dr. Hua is OUT OF NETWORK for VSP insurance. Depending on your coverage, you may be on the hook for significant out-of-pocket expenses. The doctor's assistant was careful to inform us of this fact when we were trying to schedule an appointment, and I'm sure the doctor has his reasons, but it's a great way to limit your customer base. read more

Recent customer, although my family has used for years for contacts... For my glasses: range = computer/reading, driving & bi-focal including high astigmatism through Rx sun glass Transitions. This Costco Optical delivers great service, with fast fulfillment (4-6 days tops)! Always a walk-up, I'll admit that I don't use when it's crowded. To be honest, that rectangular counter section can appear under siege (w 20+ minute waits) in some afternoons. I typically visit early or late, and I'm served from 0-5 minutes by courteous staff. Hat tip to service from Angel, whom I've worked with on 3 (x2) occasions. He is very knowledgeable, patient, thorough and responsive! He really explains optical options well, so one can make the appropriate decision. I've always been happy with results after delivery. Dr. Z wasn't there that day. It was an Asian guy who was very nice and very efficient. The prescription had Dr. Z's name on it, so I don't have a record of what his name was, but hopefully you can call and schedule to see the male optometrist at Costco. I had a great experience for my first optometrist appointment in 10+ years. In a short 20 minutes, I received a prescription that I am very confident will help my eyes with the strain I've been feeling from staring at two large computer monitors for over 8 hours a day. I feel that he was exceptionally knowledgeable, and gave me a prescription that was safe, instead of giving me a prescription that was too strong and advised that one that was too strong would give me headaches. I appreciate that he explained everything thoroughly and did each test quickly but accurately. Great experience overall! read more

I was disappointed with my experience. I made a pre-appointment and the receptionist told me she would check my insurance. When I arrived she clearly failed to do so. I asked her if she could check into it prior and she was unclear with her response. She said I was out of network and could probably get reimbursed. I should've double checked prior to coming - so that one was on me. After we talked about insurance she had me take a clipboard and fill out my personal information. No hand sanitizer was offered. When it was time to pay I was told it was cash only, I didn't bring cash, so I offered a check, She said that system was down and they could not accept anything but cash. Dr Zarnegar Golnar,OD is very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly, her method is not only to measure your vision, but also provide comfortable use in every day life. In my own experience I've learn that the right prescription not always the one which gives your eyes an easy path to operate, especially on the screen, all day long hours. Apparently our eye also get use to certain positions and linseed, even when it's not the right ones. So it's not an task to teach eyes to go a different direction in order to fix the problem, but Dr Zarnegar take careful and creative steps in order to reach those goals. My family & I have been going to Dr. Zarnegar for years! She is a wonderful Optometrist who is both knowledgeable and friendly. Her office staff is exceptional as well! I arrived for my 6PM appointment a few minutes early. In a couple minutes, after being instructed to go to the vision room, another patient started yelling EXTREMELY loudly. This woman had shown up extremely late to her own appointment, and insisted that she be taken in before me since I had just walked in. Dr. Zarnegar and her staff tried to explain multiple times that I had an appointment and because this woman had showed up late, it would not be fair to push back everyone else's appointments. But Dr. Zarnegar insisted she would squeeze her in soon. However, this woman CONTINUED to cause a scene, increased her volume by yelling even louder, repeatedly walked in and out of the office, and was being extremelyyyy rude. For someone who felt entitled and felt her time was valuable, it was quite ironic that she showed up 5 minutes before her appointment ENDED. My visit to this office has always been exceptional and y family & I really appreciate the staff & Dr. Zarnegar for being so lovely and valuing their patients time! read more

I have been going to Dr Z for years in between visiting the other guys. She has always had a calm demeanor and educated me in my vision and options. Most recently I went in with a irritated eye. Where she did an exam and asked that I follow up because the rx may be different due to the irritation. Each visit both she and her receptionist have been welcoming and efficient. Other consumers may take her calm demeanor as abruptness, which I have to defer. Coroners Costco is well Costco...busy place. To have a schedule that allows walk ins is not easy to accommodate. I work in the medical field and have an understanding how quickly things can take change. I keep my 5 stars and look forward to my next visit with Dr Zarnegar and staff. read more

Just had a Kaiser eyeglass prescription filled at the Almaden Expressway Costco vision care center. Outstanding! The glasses I purchased from Kaiser Santa Teresa optical center had to be re-done initially and were never quite right. Poor distance and night vision, etc. The Costco glasses were less than half the Kaiser price and are doing a great job so far. Excellent night and distance vision. Highly recommended, no matter where you get your exam and prescription. This is my second experience with this vision center, and I'll be back. read more

I had an eye exam, glasses & contacts done here. The receptionist at the optometrist's office is a sweetheart. The doctor was very informative. She had no problem educating me about my eyesight & my astigmatism. The optical center is very busy on the weekend. The wait is pretty long. I just browsed after my eye exam to find a frame I wanted & I came back later to order it. The ordering part is very fast & easy. My contacts came within 3 days & my glasses were ready in a week. Just don't expect someone to hold your hand to pick out a frame here, if you want quick & easy, this is the place to go. Very poor costumer service from Jessica. She yelled at us because one of my daughters tried on a pair of men's glasses because she liked the aviator style. We did not realize we were checking out the men's eyewear section, and she told us that "they would be too big on her, we would have to clean it, and the women's section is on the other side!" Eddie was the one who helped us out and we were very happy with his service. He was very nice and polite to me and my daughters and knowledgeable of his job. Just horrible customer service. Every time I call, I think my previous encounter was just a bad one-off, but then the next one is even worse! I got put on hold, and the receptionist didn't get the button pushed so I listened to her talk to her friend for 5 minutes before I hung up. I had an eye exam by Dr. Z a few weeks ago which was great, not rushed and lots of info. I went to the Optical Dept last evening to purchase glasses, my plan was 1 pair of everyday and 1 pair of prescription sunglasses. I choose a few pairs of frames while waiting about 15 minutes to be seen. The young lady that helped is named Jazmin, she was absolutely wonderful, I cannot say enough ggod things about her. She was patient in helping me select frames that were best suited for my face and prescription, explaining all the different options and what everything meant. She suggested I purchase an additional pair for work as I sit at a computer most of the day which I did. I will definitely be returning based on the service I received from Jazmin!! read more

Long story short I stopped by Costco for an eye exam since I haven't had one in years. I walk in and Dr. Zarnegar rudely asked I had an appointment before I had spoken to the Receptionist. Wow, I'm fine thank you for asking Lady I just have a question! The very nice Receptionist told me she would most likely be able to squeeze me in as they had a cancellation. I go an sit in the chair in the back and proceed to get a lecture/the Third Degree from Dr. Zarnegar during her lightning fast exam about being a walk-in patient. I was told by the Pharmacy that you can walk in for an exam. I told her she had to take it up with them. Ironically at the end of her lecture she said that yes they did take walk ins! Alrighty. I'm guessing that if you are not a man you will not get treated well. read more

I took my dad there for an eye exam. Dr. Zarnegar was very rude to my dad. I explained to her that my dad was hard of hearing and she should be patient with him but sadly she did not care. I felt sorry for my dad the way he was treated and rushed. I need to take him to a second opinion I did not trust the prescription she hurriedly wrote. I gave her a second chance and took my sister who was visiting from out of the country. She was treated worse by Dr. Zarnegar. I've seen Dr. Zarnegar for my eye exam and contact fitting for 2 years and it's safe to say that I will NEVER ever return. Not only did she significantly increase the price but on my second visit, I told her that I was fine with my contact lens so she completely skipped the lens fitting procedure and then charged me for the contact fitting service. I felt like arguing because I felt cheated but knowing that I would never return, I decided against it. She could have at least gone through the motion of the lens fitting process to make sure that my contact lens were okay but NO, she just took my word for it and then half-assed it. She is also not very friendly. She doesn't say much and just gives you an exam like a robot. She's a disgrace to optometrists and I can't for the life of me understand why so many people go to her despite her rudeness. I'm done! She will not get any more of my money. If you don't have vision insurance and want to go cheap, go to the vision center inside a Wal-Mart. This lady doesn't belong in healthcare. read more

The optometrist is rude and patronizing. I get the feeling she is pissed off because she works out of a closet-sized office at Costco. She really is the reason I will never go back to this dump. She also goes too fast because she is more interested in collecting her $100 per patient than actually making sure you get a thorough exam. Costco is generally a good store. They should send her packing and get a real Dr in there who cares about his or her patients. The receptionist/assistant there was very nice though. She should go work for a better person. Some of the people in the glasses area are very nice, but the one i just spoke to on the phone is also rude and an idiot. I took my less than one month old glasses to Almaden Costco glasses shop to have the frame adjusted. I took a number and waited. Just before my number was about to be called, I noticed one of the two people working there was demonstrating a bad moody behavior. The paper for the printer was a little low (not out), and he was yelling at another person to demand more papers. I was concerned what if I got him to help me. Lo and behold, he called my number next. I didn't want to go forward, but I figured it was just a minor adjustment, what could go wrong. But I was wrong, he somehow mangled up my glasses so badly that it no long looked like a glass frame. I felt so bad. He said, the frame is not salvable, and I have to purchase a new one. And then, he said they don't have that frame in the shop. I asked him to look if there is a nearby Costco shop carry that frame. He looked at the computer, and told me "No". This is very bad news, for I can't see anything without my glasses. I would not be able to drive nor go to work! His name was Rich. He said there is only one person in that shop can fix this frame, and that person is on vacation. I felt like to cry. I went into the shop with a wearable frame try to get it adjusted by a professional so it can sit on my face better. I ended up with a completely mangled up frame, which is not even is any glass frame shape. Since I have been wearing glasses for decades, I have learned to fix the frame a bit. So I took back the frame and slowly fixed it to a wearable state. I was having horrible headaches at work the next couple of days, because it did not sit on my face correctly. Finally, I took it to a different Costco glasses shop. The person fixed it right away with no problem, and I have been wearing that same frame without headache now. Rich completely mangled up my glasses frame, and told me I had to buy a new one, and they don't have that same frame in that shop, and the only person maybe able to fix the frame was on vacation. I could not see anything without glasses. He strangled me so badly just because he probably was having a bad day at work. I don't believe Rich should be in customer service business. I did not do anything to cause his bad behavior, I just happen to be at the wrong place, wrong time. It was a horrific experience. If you go to Almaden Costco glasses shop, avoid Rich at all cost. read more
