How appalling i showed up almost an hour early for my appointment to be forgotten about in the lobby! When i address the circumstances the receptionist casually tells me "oh i thought you left" what an unprofessional response instead of saying im sorry she thought she was being nice to say oh i will put you up to the front!! Imagine after sitting in the lobby i would have to wait longer because she did not do her job correctly! No thank you i am much better than that! I will ask my doctor to send me to a more professional office! Plus i had to sit there and witnees another patient went to pick up her only to be turned away because they couldn't find her prescription! And for the safety of all patients you should know who arrived and who leaves your office! She not only helped me picked the glasses but also adjusted my old glasses. My new glasses were tight and she helped me adjust a few times. I have been going to Dr Engleman for about three or four years now. I usually only see him once a year for an annual diabetic eye exam. During my last exam, he discovered I had cataracts in both eyes and suggested surgery to remove both. During my pre-op Dr Engleman listened to my heartbeat and heard an arrhythmia. He requested I do an EKG before proceeding with my eye surgery. Thus began my journey where I was eventually diagnosed with an issue that I wasn't even aware I had. I am grateful his diligence. I am currently being monitored for my heart issue and my cataract surgery was successful! read more

I recently reached out online to become a new patient under my new vision plan. The form was simple. I received a text explaining that it would be a couple days to be contacted. Around the same time, I received a VM from Naomi advising to call back to schedule an appointment. When I called back, I spoke to a receptionist (I did not get her name - not Naomi). Sadly, we struggled to schedule an appointment. I explained that I had no preference of provider or location. She repeatedly explained that a certain provider was not available on a particular day. I reiterated that the provider was not important to me, but I have limited availability. Instead of looking at any provider on my available days, she continued to tell me that a specific provider was not available and then looked at other days when I was not available. After several minutes, I gave up. I told her that it did not appear that we were communicating and that I would have to find another optometrist. She replied, "Okay." She was pleasant over the phone, but the experience was frustrating. I found another optometrist. read more

I have many years of experience seeing optometrists and ophthalmologists all over the country, beginning when I had eye surgery at age 5. A month ago, and before finding Spectrum, I changed optometrists and the new optometrist advised me to see an ophthalmologist because she saw something unusual in my eye. I used Yelp and two other websites that provide physician background information in my search for an ophthalmologist. That search led me to Dr. Fishman at Spectrum. It was an excellent decision. I'll be specific. FACILITY Spectrum had two buildings in Los Gatos. As an aside, I arrived at my appointment 20 minutes early -- but at the wrong building. If you use Spectrum, don't let this happen to you! At the facility where Dr. Fishman was indeed expecting me, I noted that there were many rooms. The place seemed large, well-equipped, clean, and well-staffed. There was plenty of parking. Spectrum's other building appeared to be tasked to the optician side of the practice. I saw a lot of glasses there, but can't comment on that. Overall, my impression was that Spectrum is like an aircraft carrier of eye care: plenty of facilities, equipment and staff. CUSTOMER CARE/AMBIANCE High toned and professional. When I entered (in each building), there were people at reception who looked up and greeted me as if I was welcomed. In the first instance, where I was at the wrong building, the staff member quickly guided me and called ahead to let them know I was coming. Every interaction I had (or observed) had a tone that I see in high performing teams. There was a brief moment of awkwardness when the technician didn't introduce herself, or her role. That led to me think she was one of the doctors in the practice. The practice makes excellent use of software. The visit did not begin with me sitting in a lobby filling out pages of printed forms. Instead, Spectrum uses an online check-in process that made the visit very smooth. While in the examination room, the technician and the doctor were able to see the information entered and ask clarifying questions to build-out the patient record. Billing was automated. My new prescription was printed. We spent more time laughing about my misunderstanding about the technician-doctor than doing paperwork. (I understand this technician was recently admitted to medical school, so I wasn't all wrong) EXPERTISE/BEDSIDE MANNER Dr. Fishman exudes experience and expertise. He completed my examination and put to rest the concern of the less experienced doctor that believed there was an anomaly in my eye. He provided his finding with a confidence and surety that experience allows one to have. I especially appreciated that. The aforementioned technician performed a refraction at my request because I was unsure about a recently made eyeglass prescription by that other doctor (not affiliated with Spectrum). The technician was able to improve my vision. Dr. Fishman provided good insight as to whether I should have new lenses made. My astigmatism axis was off by 10 degrees and he took the time to show me the difference between the prescriptions using a phoropter lens. Another Dr. Fishman trait stood out: Dr. Fishman has mastered the characteristic of a pleasing personality. That is, taking an interest in others. Besides his warm manner, he asked questions about me and how I was doing -- like a man who cares about his patients. He made quite an impression on me. SUMMARY I have a code of conduct when writing Yelp (or other) reviews, and that code is in my profile. I truly believe that sites like this can be an invaluable resource, but I've seen some 5 star reviews of businesses that performed poorly. Spectrum deserves 5 stars, in my experience. read more

Dr. Rajagopalan has an excellent "bedside manner". I had no idea what was going on during the eye exam as it was only my second ever exam, the first being 10 years ago. Throughout the appointment she came across as genuinely kind, calming and caring (and of course knowledgeable, efficient, and professional) without being overly nice or smiley. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who helped me try on glasses. She could not have been more helpful and also very pleasant. The women at the front desk checked me in quickly with a smile and didn't acknowledge my being 3 minutes late . While the optometrists working at Spectrum are very good, the front desk, the quality of service provided outside of the optometrist's exam room is awful. Front desk does not bother to great you when you check in. When I needed to be seen for an eye emergency, they refused to hear me out and best could do was to refer me to another clinic. When ordering contacts, seemed they were only interested in collecting payment. Eyeglass frame selection is outdated and very expensive. I rarely leave negative reviews but this place needed one to help people like you avoid leaving your hard earned money to a business that does not care for your well being genuinely and fails to provide basic service training for it's employees. Again, this is not a reflection on actual doctors working here. But since you are opting in for the entire experience, be aware of the issues the service entails. It will take you weeks/months to book an appointment and you will not be treated with dignity and respect their website or brochure promises. read more

The doctors are very good BUT went there for a problem with floaters. Dr. had me come back for a FOLLOW UP visit in a few weeks that should have been no charge but was charged another 200 bucks! I was referred to Dr. Tarek El-Sawy by my ophthalmologist. I had lost a great deal of peripheral vision due to hanging skin covering the corners of my eyes. Dr. El-Sawy did a remarkable job in restoring my vision and making me 20-years younger looking to boot. The procedure was simple and painless. Dr. Fishman is great but he doesn't accept patients for eye exams so it leaves you with someone who is not an MD and when you make an appointment a year in advance, they cancel the appointment. This has happened to me multiple times. Cancelations are nothing new. It's part of their game. I received no phone call that my appointment had been cancelled. I took the day off work, arrived for my appointment on time only to find out the appointment was cancelled. In my world, that is rude and inconsiderate of other people's time and resources. The receptionist couldn't care less that appointments are cancelled. The office staff is quite rude. I do not recommend this office. read more

He is thoughtful, gives detailed explanation of the procedure and what to expect, his surgical prowess and review of the outcome in his follow up visits. Be Leary. They are expensive and you are paying extra for overhead plus the quality of service is terrible. I received glades that the lenses kept falling out of and brought them back two different times. On the third time I lost the lense as it was tucked in my shirt and dropped. They wanted $250 for a replacement lense that they said wouldn't match. Told them to keep their glasses. When I ordered my first pair under insurance it was still expensive more so than my prior insurance but I wanted to try these folks. So since I had extra money on my flexible spending account I asked to tell me what the second pair would cost before they ordered them. Next I heard from them they just ordered them and I freaked out how expensive it was. I had just used all my flexible spending on that and stupidly paid. Shame on me. The price was I'm so over these folks.in response to the company review my glasses fell apart multiple times within a year. Shame on me for not yelping immediately after that happened. I was too busy looking for my lost lenses and screws. I have since gone back to the better place lense crafters where they were so helpful and accommodating. read more

I'm new to the area and don't have insurance and Spectrum Eye still was able to provide affordable, helpful treatment. It was easy to make an appointment. The waiting room is large and quiet. My wait time was less than 10 minutes. The Assistant was really pleasant and Dr. Lee was very kind. She listened to my concerns and comforted me with solutions and insight. I've been to Eye Doctors before that try to pressure you into buying glasses and lenses from them, but Dr. Lee made me feel comfortable by suggesting I can go where the lenses are affordable. I usually get my lenses from 1-800-CONTACTS, and my frames from Coastal.com. My room mate referred me to this locations and because of that, the office provided me a discount. Without insurance a typical eye exam is quoted at $220. If you use a reference, you may receive a discount. read more

I decided to give them another try, and am very glad I did. Dr Engelman has been great to work with, and specializes in glaucoma. I am so thankful specifically for Kris in the Optical department . My elderly mother wears contacts and during Covid she fell and was having a hard time putting her contacts in and out . I suggested she get some eye classes to have for use in these type of situations. I called the office and they transferred me to Kris and I explained the situation . My mother was unable to go into the office because of her condition as well as the Covid situation . Despite it being over a year since my mother's last eye evaluation , Kris was extremely helpful to accommodate us . She asked many thorough questions regarding my mom's eyes as well as style preference and fit . One week later the most perfect glasses arrived to my mother's home. I am so disappointed to have to write this review. My husband has been going here for years and when I was having trouble getting the right prescription from another eye doctor he suggested I try them. I saw Dr. Lee (even though I called specifically to see Dr. Fishman). She gave me a new prescription, but when I picked up the glasses I couldn't see any better than when I had come in. I asked for a recheck and saw Dr. Fishman in addition to Dr. Lee. He spent a short amount of time with me and said he concurred with Dr. Lee's prescription. When she wrote the prescription she put a minus instead of a plus (she never apologized when I returned). I was getting my glasses made elsewhere so when I got them they were obviously not wearable. I went back a third time and she gave me a third prescription. I picked them up and my vision was still completely blurry. I thought I was going nuts so I went to yet another eye doctor outside of their practice and he said her prescription was way off. I've now used my insurance covered exam and had glasses made that are useless. I'm out of pocket quite a bit of money for nothing and I'm hugely disappointed that they have an optometrist on staff that cannot come up with an accurate prescription. My experience at Spectrum Eye Physicians has been great. I had my annual eye exam and a consultation with Dr. Tarek El-Sawy. He is wonderful! After the consultation I scheduled an appointment to have blepharoplasty on my upper eyelids. I could not be more pleased with the results. The procedure itself was painless and I experienced only minimal bruising. Within a week, no one could tell that I had surgery. Dr. El-Sawy is very pleasant, personable and skilled. If you are considering blepharoplasty, I would recommend you see Dr. El-Sawy rather than a traditional plastic surgeon. Don't buy your glasses here. Horrible service. I used my insurance and still paid about $200 out of pocket and the glasses are not correct. Now I have to go elsewhere and start all over. The contact lense 'fitting' is a joke. I've been wearing contacts for about 40 years. I don't need someone to teach me how to insert and care for contacts. Don't bother making an appointment with a real doctor. No need to wait six plus months to see a 'doctor' because when your appointment day finally arrives, they will have you see the optometrist. This office loves the 'bait and switch' appointments. If I wanted to see an optometrist, I could have gone somewhere else. An optometrist at Costco would have been a lot cheaper and probably better service. Not only does it take forever to be seen by someone other than who you made the appointment with, the office is noisy and STINKS. It smells like an old persons house that hasn't been aired out for sixty plus years. If you have an afternoon appointment, plan on being in the stinky office for at least 3 to 4 hours. read more

Be careful! They have billed me two times for items that, one did not happen and two, that I did not approve. Usually, an eye field test is part of your eye exam. However, when I went for my eye exam they charged me $120 for the field test. My insurance only covered $26 of the test. Again, 100% is covered at my other eye physicians. The next visit, they charged me for an office visit with the doctor, but I never saw him. I had to call and demand that it be removed when I heard from my insurance company. Finally, on my third visit that was scheduled for another field vision test and an appointment with the doctor, they charged me for an optical coherence test. This was never mentioned on my two confirmation phone calls for what I was having done. I thought that I was getting smarter to follow-up with them beforehand. No, they charged me for this $120 test that was never mentioned or authorized by me. I called to get the charge removed (again, I found out about this charge when I received my denied benefit letter from my insurance company) and they told me that they would call me back in a week. They did not. I called again and was told to call another office and have them discuss it with me. I replied that I was already waiting for a call back they promised. They then told me that they would contact the other office and someone there would be calling me back. I am not holding my breath, but not paying for that snuck in test either. Be careful. They do not send their bills out. I never received one from my 1st or 2nd visit and had to call them to get one sent out. Update: I received a call the day after I posted this and they told me that they voided the $120 charge for the test that I did not know about. Update II: Unbelievably, when I went again this year, (I know, you are all asking why I keep going back - now, they have all of my history and my electronic file on my progress) they did the same thing and charged me for extra services that the Doctor told me that I did not have to pay. I met with Dr. Engleman (as usual) and I told him about the problems from my last visit and reminded him about the issues from my other visits. He apologized and told me that he was not going to charge me for my updated contact prescription, but just charge me for his doctor's visit. He told me that there would be no other charges on my account except for the one doctor's visit. I thanked him (it was $45 savings). When I went to the front desk to pay for my co-pay, they told me that there was going to be a $60 contact measurement fee. I reminded them and showed them the note from the doctor attached to my file about no updated contact prescription fee. I asked them to speak to him about this new fee. They came back and told me that the doctor waived this new fee for the one time. I thanked them. They must have a policy of always trying to get add on fees on the bills before the patient leaves. There are only senior citizens in there when I go. I feel really sorry for them getting taken advantage of. After me catching every little add on fee and getting it waived, my insurance was charged for the $60 contact fitting fee and of course did not pay it. When I got my part of the bill three months later, the fee was still on there. I had to call the accounting office and then was told that they could not do anything. I called and left a very detailed message with Dr. Engleman. A week later, I received and updated bill with the $60 adjusted off and in the same envelope my check for the $20 co-payment returned. Again, you really have to watch these people. They try to add on fees and try to make your insurance company pay. read more

I have had very bad eyes and glaucoma from a very young age. Dr. Engelman is the best ophthalmologist I have ever been to. I just had cataract surgery for both my eyes and I can see 20/15 and read really small print with my new mono vision. I love it. I've been wearing glasses since second grade. Also had stents put in for glaucoma and my pressure is way down. read more
