My mom had a great experience with Dr. Amy Chi. She is at retirement age and went in for a routine eye exam after not seeing an eye doctor for many years, assuming her vision was fine. Dr. Chi performed a very comprehensive exam and took the time to explain her prognosis in detail, which really put my mom at ease. She left feeling like she had an "upgrade" in her vision with her new lenses. I would definitely recommend Dr. Amy Chi to anyone considering an eye exam. read more

When I arrived at the store/office today, I was exhausted and said I needed to sit down. Erica N, one of the opticians, immediately offered me a seat at a small desk and pulled several pairs of frames for me based on a minimum amount of information. She kept pulling frames for me until I found a pair I really liked. I thought her customer service skills were excellent and she was very helpful regarding insurance, pricing, etc., even printing out for me a copy of the insurance plan I have. Superior service. First, this place is not close to my house, and it is very difficult to find parking. However, my old optometry recommended this place. There was no optician to help for 10 minutes, so i ask the front desk and the girl name Jodie trying to help, however, she is rude and when i ask her if that frame fits me, and she said 'whatever'. I was shocked. She might not know how to help, she could find someone else to help. She seems annoyed and impatient. She is not very helpful. Finally, Angelo comes to help, he is very helpful in explain the frame size and spring handle. If I do want to come back. I will get help from Angelo. read more

I have been going to this office for many years, but now I am considering changing the place. After my annual exam, when I came to pick up my glasses for the first time, I couldn't take them because my vision was blurry and I couldn't see clearly. I returned for a re-examination and waited another two weeks. When I came back today to pick up the new glasses, the frame was extremely wide. The staff tried to adjust it, but it didn't help. When I asked to try another pair (wanted to compare) I was told that it was only the display frame and that if I wanted a brand-new one, I needed to specify that. This was the first time in all the years I've been a patient that I heard something like this. I said that a brand-new frame would be great. I paid over $400 after insurance (which is very good), and now I'm expected to accept glasses that will only become wider after a few weeks of wear. I am very disappointed with how everything turned out and am seriously considering changing to a different place. I've have been...I guess now was a patient of Dr Slater for 25-30yrs. My wife and kids enjoyed seeing him each year. Over the years he is understandingly work less, but we still would come to be seen. I had an appointment today for some vision problems I am experiencing, which I believe might be related to some medications I am on. When I called to say I will be 10-15mins late due to being stuck in traffic due to an accident, the person that answered told me that they could not see me and I would have to reschedule to next week. If this was a regular appointment, that would be fine. But since this is regarding an actual vision problem, I would have expected more understanding. The young lady who completed the initial eye testing was very professional. I was super impressed with Dr. To, whom I found thorough and personable. *First time review* I came here for a medical issue, not routine eye exam. I saw Dr. Amy Chi, what a delight! Their office is insanely clean, front desk was so helpful and got me in urgently within 2 hours of my calling. I was having some blurred vision and tightness but all good-- Dr Chi confirmed all good on my eyes and possibly migraine or something else. The peace of mind was great. They do take VSP and MetLife. I didn't feel rushed and I was able to ask all my questions. Will most likely come here for routine exam in the future. read more

The staff was very unprofessional and appeared unsure of how to properly perform eye measurements. They repeatedly read one value and wrote down another. I've had to redo my glasses three times, and they still hurt my eyes. Overall, this was a frustrating experience, and I wouldn't recommend them. read more

The entire staff is amazing! From inquiring on the phone, until the moment I left the Office, I felt pure honesty and care about my eye health journey. I have not been to the eye doctor for... too long. I saw Dr. Thuy Nguyen, who noticed that my last eye doctor over-corrected my eyeglasses. My reading glasses were off too. She was very careful examining my eyes and answered all my questions. I ordered new glasses, reading glasses, and contacts. The guy who helped me try on frames was good. I have a very narrow face and short temples, but the Kliik brand women's frames fit well. I can also finally see out of my glasses now. I managed to order the wrong type of contacts, but they exchanged them without a fuss and without me needing extra follow-up. I took my mom's glasses there. Both nose pads were missing and frame was badly bent. The technician came out looked at them and said he would be back in a few minutes. He installed new nose pads, straighten the frame and cleaned the lenses. No Charge. My wife and I have been going to them for years and will continue going. April! April! April! The optometrist was super knowledgable, attentive, and thorough. I was very happy with my exam. As usual, I was dreading the frame-picking venture. I literally got lasik surgery many years ago to be done with glasses that never fit right, hurt my nose, or fall off my face. It's important to have someone help you with this process. Some don't need it - some of us do. Getting the right frames and having them work for you is just as important as a good exam and right prescription. I was so fortunate April Collier was there to help me troubleshoot some issues I was having with my new frames. She also helped me pick out prescription sunglasses, something I've never invested in. April gives great advice and knows what she is doing. Look for her when you're in there. You won't be sorry. read more

Pros: Dr. Nguyen!! She is incredibly smart. I casually mentioned an eye issue that I've had since I was born and what other optometrists have done in the past. She listened and asked me to try different lenses to test something out. Somehow when she put some lenses in front of me, it felt like my eyes didn't have to work as hard and I was still able to see far away. It honestly felt like magic! This has never happened in my entire time that I've had optometrists. I have my glasses now and I seriously am thinking about wearing them more often (I usually wear contacts) because the prescription and what she thought of makes it so much easier. I cannot recommend her enough. Also: she has a toddler around the same age as mine, so it was awesome to chat parent to parent and make small talk with her. Friendly: staff are friendly at this office. The person that helped me out mentioned that she would try to get the glasses in before 3 weeks, and if happened! They managed my expectations appropriately. Location: it's located right by orchard city kitchen at the Pruneyard, which so happens to be one of my favorite eateries. Safe location and super convenient with all the shops at the pruneyard. Safety: they are great about safety. They take your temperature as soon as you walk in the door. They wipe everything down and everything is quite clean, and of course, everyone masked (and not in a sketchy mask below the nose sort of way!) Cons: cost. It may have been because I was at Kaiser optometry before, and haven't gone to a VSP provider for a couple years, but dang, it's expensive! The test they do to see if you have any diabetic issues on your eyes (no idea what it's called), is an extra expense. It just all seems to add up to a lottttt even with insurance. Not sure what it would have been like at a different place. All in all, the pros OBVIOUSLY outweigh the cons. Dr. Nguyen's intellect and ability to truly listen to her patients to help them out did it for me. Cannot recommend her enough. (P.s. I have high expectations, so it's saying a lot.) read more

I've been going to Dr. Slater for over 20 years, I currently live in Santa Cruz and still prefer to drive over the hill for Dr. Slater. I made a last minute appointment yesterday as there was a break between storms and as I arrived, they were a little backed up do to an earlier medical issue. I was in a bit of a time crunch and the office staff was amazing and very understanding and did there very best to have me seen and out on time. Regardless of how busy and stressful their day was, both Dr. Slater and the front office staff (I wish I got her name) took time to talk with me and overall just made me feel good about why after all these years, I continue to go back to see Dr. Slater. It was my first visit (last week) and it ended in an amazing experience. From entering the building until exiting, I was treated with utmost attention by offering help at each and every step of my appointment. The minute I walked in, the front desk girl greeted me very professionally, and the guy who checked my eyes and my previous eyeglasses was also phenomenal. When I came to Dr. Thuy Nguyen, again, I was thrilled to see such a wonderful doctor who was very bright, full of patience, and made me feel very comfortable while doing the eye exam. Dr. Thuy Nguyen double, triple checked my eyes before finalizing the results, as I am going through a transition period for far and close vision. She did not RUSH at all, and I was treated very patiently. In the end, I met Jayla, who helped me finalize the eyeglasses. She was also very helpful and full of patience. The staff of super-friendly professionals made my experience memorable. I highly recommend Dr. Thuy Nguyen as she has unparalleled brilliance, and it is very clear that the doctor and the staff care for their patients. This office has been around for ever as i have been there before when it was very small. I don't live nearby but I came in to see their selection of frames as I am looking to buy them before the year ended. Wow....they do have a great selections of frames and the office is so much bigger now. Even though I am not a patient there, I have received excellent services from every one. No need to give out names or birthdate to see their frames like Crest Optometry. The shop was packed with customers but the optician took her time helping me to find the right frames for my face. No wonder why Fred Slater optometrist has been chosen as the best optometrist on Yelp for so many years. read more

This optometrist has the best staff. When I called asking for prices around a pair of Chloé glasses I didn't initially intend on buying them right away. But April went above and beyond to make sure I understood all of my options. She ordered them just for me to try them on (they didn't have them in store) and texted me very quickly. I came in and tried them on and IMMEDIATELY fell in love. Their customer service combined with their expertise and great choices for glasses won me over. I eventually went through my options- opted for the highest grade lens and transitions because my prescription is really strong. With all of the customizations made (these are heart shaped glasses) they had the quickest turn around time. I went in to pick them up today and Ryan helped me. He's also an absolute GEM. I went in with contacts not expecting to be fitted and helped out further and he provided me with a temporary contact lens case and helped resize by glasses to the best fit with THE BEST attitude. I don't know what is in the water here- but I'd definitely take a bottle if they sold it. What an incredible team!!! Just needed some frames for my kiddo after her eye appt elsewhere (specialist). I called and they said come on in lol. They were super helpful, didn't care that we didn't get the exam there, were SUPER patient with my young kiddo touching everything lol, just a really great experience. They also had some cool models so my daughter could see what it would be like if we got transitions (like she was asking for). Came here for a standard eye checkup since I rarely go to the eye doctor. As I walked in I was immediately greeted by a friendly desk lady who then directed me to see Dr. Chi. Dr. Chi was extremely professional and efficient; it was my first time checking my eye prescription and she took me through all the tests in a timely matter. Then experienced similar behavior yet again on phone calls and realized it's not one off or unusual.. Coming to get a checkup with Dr. Chi was one of the best decisions I could have made for the health of my vision! To be honest, I have seen a lot of optometrists over the years, and my experience has always been subpar-- nobody had anything special to say about my eyes except to renew the prescription for my contacts and my glasses and take my money... until Dr. Chi. One of things I noticed when I had my first visit with Dr. Chi was how thorough she was in my eye exam-- she gave such thoughtful insights and suggestions. For example, she noticed that there was some dryness and irritation in my eyes, due to extensive daily contact lens wear, and she gave me strict instructions to not wear contact lenses for two weeks. When the dryness did not improve as much as she'd liked two weeks later, she prescribed special eye drops for me. Then on my next visit, she did a thorough exam and said that the dryness and irritation was 100% better! Hooray! She also recommended a better brand of contact lens for me that's more moisturizing and could stand for longer wear. (In my past life, I always ordered my contact lenses at Costco and got the cheapest brand I could find, which clearly wasn't going well given the dryness Dr. Chi found.). I think how seriously Dr. Chi takes her responsibility as my eye doctor inspired me to take my eye health more seriously, because what can be more important than having great vision for the rest of my life?! Additionally Dr. Chi always looks for ways to help me save money on my prescription, whether it's through rebates, or something else. She even gave me advice on whether purchasing prescription glasses or contacts was a better use of vision insurance coverage. I really appreciate her watching out for me and I trust her recommendations 100%! I am now bugging my husband to go get his eyes checked out by Dr. Chi, and will definitely be bringing my kids when they are old enough. Also, huge shout-out to Mark for helping me get my contact lenses ordered and following up with me when I forgot to call back-- I got the lenses so quickly.
