Pretty well what you expect at a Costco. Because they're in the same plaza as a bunch of retail/ outlet locations, there's quite a bit more parking available if you're willing to park further. This location is crowded and I find a lot of times, things are out of stock. Or they simply don't have the same abundance of selections as other locations. There's times I can pick things up at the Scarborough/ Markham locations that I can't even find here (fruits, specials, clothing, etc). The staff here also aren't really quite as friendly. Few times we've had to interact with a cashier, they seemed a bit annoyed. They were giving us "teenage daughter" vibes.... you know when they roll their eyes and chew their gum and can't be bothered to make eye contact when telling you your total. We prefer self check out anyway so we just avoid interaction if we can. That's not to say ALL staff are like that. Just the ones we have unluckily had to deal with. The wait at the pharmacy is kinda long. Given the cost is better than at your regular pharmacy, I do think it's worth waiting if you're not covered by insurance. read more

I generally dislike shopping at Costco. I always feel like I can't find anything and end up wandering around the gigantic warehouse looking at random things. People are super pushy with their carts and there never seems to be a good time to go to avoid the crowd. However, being the pizza lunch coordinator at my daughter's school for the last few years, I've made bi-weekly trips to this location to pick up pizza lunch snacks and I must say, I still don't like shopping at Costco. There are many saving graces like the cheap food court eats and random scores of fantastic quality clothing I wasn't looking for. The staff who offer food samples often look unhappy, with no smile and no basic courtesy. When we ask, "May I take one?" many of them do not even respond. I do not understand why management keeps staff who lack customer service skills and proactiveness. Customer interaction is part of their role, yet they show no warmth or friendliness. Came here to buy a Seville tower fan to beat the heat without running AC all the time. The store was busy for a Monday. The fan was $49.99 after $10 discount . The Costco website sells it for $59.99 after $10 discount with free shipping. We also bought our favourite seabass fish ij the frozen aisle. The self serve checkout line had two lines my side was super slow. I wish they added barriers to ensure lineup is first come first serve. Whatever you do, do not go to the Pharmacy at Costco in Ajax. The pharmacists there are a bunch of morons. I don't know where they got their degrees from, but whichever University they bought their degrees from should be investigated. I was at the Costco pharmacy filling my prescriptions for a narcotic. I was told the wait would be 30 minutes for this medication to be prepared, even though at any other pharmacy it would take less than 10 minutes, but since I had a little bit of shopping to do, I figured why not? I came back 35 minutes later and asked if my medication was ready. The cashier told me, it would take an additional 5 or 10 minutes because they were very busy today. I walked around like a zombie waiting for the medication and return 10 minutes later to the cashier. This time the cashier informed me that because my prescription was for a narcotic and narcotics are kept in a time release safe, I would have to wait another 30 minutes for the safe to open. I asked her why they didn't open the safe as soon as I submitted my prescription, so that when it was time to fill my prescription the safe would be open. Her rude response was "Costco does not do it that way." She told me that they only open the safe once it is time to prepare the medication for me. I asked to speak to the store manager. He arrived 15 minutes later. I told him what had happened. He apologized, but said there was nothing he can do. By the time I finished complaining an hour and 10 minutes had passed since I submitted my prescription and my medication was finally ready. When I arrived at home, I opened the container to count the pills, as my doctor had advised me to do on every occasion when picking up narcotics. The prescription was for 90 pills yet there are only 58 pills in the container. The next morning I called the store to complain to the store manager. He told me that he spoke to the pharmacist and the pharmacist assured him that the prescription was only for 60 pills. I told the store manager to go back to the pharmacy and demand to see the actual prescription written by the doctor. The store manager called me an hour later and informed me that indeed the prescription was for 90 pills and not 60 pills as the pharmacist stated. The head pharmacist called me later that day to inform me that the reason I only received 60 pills was because the store only had 60 pills in stock and I can come pick up the other 30 the next day, but nobody informed me of this when I picked up the original prescription and still there were two pills unaccounted for. I spent over an hour during that day on the phone trying to sort this out. Still all I received was an apology and nothing else. The following day I had to drive all the way back to Costco to pick up the 30 pills that were missing due to their incompetence and then drive all the way home again. Another hour plus gas cost because of their mistake and still all I got was another apology and still I am missing two pills. Later that day the head pharmacist called me again to tell me that they will be replacing the two pills that were missing. I would have to make a third trip to the pharmacy at Costco to get my entire prescription. In total, I spent over 4 hours and approximately $15.00 in gas, just to get a prescription that any pharmacist would be able to prepare in 10 minutes and for my troubles all I received were several apologies. People look to Costco for a good service, but in this case they missed the mark and instead of compensating their customer for all the problems they've caused all they offered was an apology. read more

I heard so much about the Costco pizza. All positive, so I thought I'd try it out today. It is horrible! Awful! Two bites and threw it out. A salty, doughy, greasy mess. Seriously ... this is the worse pizza. It is worse then Pizza Pizza and that is difficult to do. The Pepsi Soda machine is also a 1 star. There is no carbonation to the soft drinks. I was at the cash checking out and I want to pay for two boxes of chocolate cookies that for we're from my wife's girl guide group separately the cashier refused, saying I didn't have a business account? Why do I need a business account just to pay separately for two items? Sure enough, the manager just happen to be walking up and I recognize him from. Previous encounters he confirms that because I only have an executive account I can't pay for items separately I say to him, but what if I just pay for two items come back in line and pay again what's the harm? There's never any negotiation with this guy and what did the cashier do she crumpled my receipt and toss it at me and the manager always sides with the employees never the customers I hate his guts I spent $20,000 a year at that Costco no more after today soon as my membership runs out in January Finito. read more

There's so many parts to Costco that it's a hard to give it an overall rating. That being said I'm looking at a 2.5 rating. I hit up the cafe at the back for a Polish sausage first. Can't really beat $1.50 for a large dog and full size fountain drink! The soft steamed buns are a really nice touch. I also appreciate that there are pumps for the ketchup, mustard, and relish so there's no fussing about with opening packets or gaming with bottles. I ordered a custom calendar from the photo centre as a gift which was poorly done. I provided 12 photos for the calendar and they were all printed with the top of the heads cut off so everyone was missing a good half of their forehead. I would have hoped that someone could have moved the pictures down or resized them. I didn't wind up gifting it since it wasn't up to par. I'd definitely be down to get some Costco got food but I'm going to stay away from the photo services. read more

I have received good deals on olive oil, crab, and dumplings just by visiting the Road Show booth - the price of gas, which can be signifcantly cheaper than elsewhere - jewelry - if you are looking to buy something like an engagement ring, this is a good place to go. The jewelry is well crafted and many unique designs are on display. - free samples of food. You could go here at lunch time and return to work fully satisified, just by eating from the free samples Downsides; - bad parking - loud customers who seem to haul a lot of children around with them, who then get in the way of your shopping cart - having to show your Costco ID (like when you enter, and when you check out). OK, maybe I am a bit of a princess, but I hate having to dig through my wallet to produce the card - queues for gas - expect to wait in line Now, on a cheerier note, I have heard that their pharmacy services are worth checking out for a good price on any prescription meds that you might have. This is the first time I come to this Costco location, I usually go to the Scarborough one. I was under the impression that all the Costco locations were the same and that the product selection was the same. Oh what a fool I have been! This mentality kept me from visiting other locations, until yesterday. It was a "WTF" moment for me because this location is not only bigger, there is more selection of products like coffee, and they have Tim Hortons here. The cold cuts they have ham just regular ham, the spices isles too has a wider selection. I have been a fool in not wanting to come to this location, it's even closer to where I live! The biggest difference that I found at least is that there are staff walking around everywhere, I did not have any questions but if I did I was glad to see that there was someone I could ask. I am sure that like most retail employee they don't know anything! However, just the thought that they were there not knowing anything is comforting. This location is quite a bit smaller and more cramped than the Markham Rd location. The parking is horrendous and it's always SUPER packed, no matter which day or time you go. But I will go here to get what I need if I'm desperate because it's close by. Selection of new stock isn't as great but usually have the staple items. The main annoying thing that I hate about this location is the way they choose to upsell your membership. There is always one extra person who will take your membership card during checkout to "check something". By the end of the transaction they tell you can get your card back at the service desk. At which point you have to endure a lengthy and feeble sales pitch that wastes 15 minutes of your time. read more

This is a great Costco. My only complaint is when they stop buying something I've come to depend on. It's an extremely busy location, particularly during weekends, so sometimes your best bet for parking is to park near the other stores. Less frustration. Best to go during the day on a weekday. Now that they have the gas station, it's busy to the point of requiring traffic directors during high gas demand (I.e., high prices elsewhere). I just finished shopping today at this location(Ajax Ontario). I was cashed out by a cashier named Rowena (shown on her name tag). Not only she's rude, but also did not do what she was supposed to. I handed to her my coupons so she could apply the discounts for all items I purchased that have coupon discounts, she took a look at the coupon for few seconds, then without saying anything, she threw the coupons into the garbage can and started keying my purchases. Thinking that everything was ok I swiped my credit card, only to find out from receipt that none of the discounts were applied. I told her about it and all she did was ask me to go and wait for a seperate long line to correct my receipt. Very very rude and inefficient cahier named "Rowena". read more

BEWARE OF OPTICAL DEPARTMENT!!! I ordered a pair of glasses in January. Not cheap! I spent over $400 and was told the frames were high quality. Within 2 months they started to chip and discolor. That's hardly the worst of it. After 4 months my eyes started to become very fatigued with blurry vision and twitching almost every night. I went to an ophthalmologist and after a 10 minute examination was told it was my glasses. Before I could even respond he said" Costco right?" I was shocked to find out that this was a recurring problem he had seen with Costco Glasses. I returned to Costco and told them the story. They were completely indifferent and simply said they could re-make the glasses. It has been almost 4 WEEKS! Still no glasses. Pretty good place to shop for stuff in bulk. Decent prices and good stock. It's cleaner and friendlier than the Costco in Woodbridge that I visited. They also have a pharmacy, gas and tire station.
