I honestly love this particular Costco because they offer some different Asian and organic items that they don't have in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. I don't mind driving a couple extra miles plus this exit off of 85 is the same exit for the coffee shop, poor decisions!! I love that place!! This particular Costco has two different ways to enter, which kind of take a longer time than normal, but I've done both of them and I think it's about the same time and distance since I always get stuck at lights! As a millennial mom, it's no surprise I love Costco. This location is my favorite in the San Jose area for shopping, so this review is specifically about the TIRE CENTER. To be fair, my frustration is more with how Costco corporate chooses to run its tire center operations than with any of the employees here. I could go into detail about two years of dysfunctional service, but the condensed version is enough: yes, you can get quality, discounted tires and a seamless online purchasing experience. Installation may even go smoothly. But if you need follow-up service, rotations, repairs, or anything else, you'll run into a frustrating and inconvenient system. The shop is overbooked, the employees are clearly overworked, and the process often rewards whoever is willing to push their way to ahead of you. You may save money upfront, but you'll pay for it in long wait times, frustration, and eventually out-of-pocket costs when Costco can't provide timely service and you have to go elsewhere. This Costco seems to be one of the better locations. Parking lot is huge and doesn't seem overly crowded which is nice. Costco has tons of selections as far as home items, food, electronics , and technology. I've been able to save money by shopping at Costco because they sell items in bulk. Recently an employee helped me find an item I couldn't find. They were kind enough to walk me across the store to the approximate location. Lastly, I believe that this location deserves recognition for being very clean and hygienic. I've always seen the isles clean and bathrooms clean as well. I love Costco, in general, and this one in particular. First, it's near my home so I don't have to drive all over the valley to get to it. Second, this one has a gas station, which I can really use. Finally, these are great stores and are well run. With their legendary $1.50 hot dogs at the snack bar and the inexpensive rotisserie chickens in the back, I somehow come here looking for a few items and leave having bought quite a bit more. This store isn't quite as crazy as some other San Jose locations - for whatever reasons the customers are not as hyper competitive -- so I enjoy the experience of coming here quite a bit more. Also, since I've been retired, I get to shop when others are at work, so that makes it great, too. I love their periodic specials -- for example they'll bring a great big semi-truck of Christmas trees in for the holidays and sell beautiful noble fir trees at a great price. Or maybe they'll be a road show with some great camping or cooking item. It's a great way to buy something at a slightly better price that you might not have gone for somewhere else. Heck, I even come here for my vaccinations and prescriptions - the pharmacy is super efficient and I never have to wait too long. The return policy is generous, and their cash back policy for members always gives me a check with a nice reason to come back. 20+ years as a Costco member and you guys still rock! Food quality has definitely declined at this location. Compared to other Costco branches, especially the one in North San Jose, this one falls short. At North SJ, you can actually see the team making the pizzas fresh before they go in the oven. In the 8+ years I went there, I never had a single complaint. Since moving to South SJ, though, I've noticed a consistent drop in quality over the past 3 years. The crust is overly thick, the pizza often comes out burnt, dry, and often cold, and the pepperoni distribution is uneven. It's disappointing, especially knowing how much better it could be. The best thing about buying croissants from Costco is that you can spice them up without the hassle of knowing how to make/bake croissants yourself first. Previously I tried making a cookie croissant and now I made a strawberry croissant. For the strawberry croissant, I spread brown sugar cream cheese on the toasted croissant then I added slices strawberries and powdered sugar. It was delicious! I didn't get stuck in between cars waiting to turn and people weren't pushing their carts around me. Overall win already. Once I found parking, I headed inside and took my time walking around. They have the usual offerings and a few items that I haven't seen at my local one. I ended buying what I came for plus a lot more that I didn't plan for - which I should have planned on happening, it being Costco and all. The crowd here seemed a lot calmer than some of the other Costco crowds I've run into. No one was running into my cart and I had space to maneuver around aisles with ease. Checkout did get a little crowded, but nothing unexpected for the weekends. I was able to be in and out of Costco in less than an hour - pretty good considering I was very tempted to browse for much longer. Given the calm atmosphere here - I think I'll make it more of a habit to come down to this Costco when I have the time. read more

My Costco of preference when I need to get gas and try to avoid crowds. Though, to be fair, this Costco Wholesale has also slowly gotten more crowded over time. Now I just need to be mindful of which days and times I choose to come to Costco. Since the Alameda Costco doesn't have gas, this would be the next closest to me to get Costco gas. I usually don't like going up to Santa Clara and Sunnyvale Costcos since those are always super packed and I'm not a big fan of waiting in long lines. Once inside, the selection of items isn't too bad. I'm usually always able to find what I'm looking for. There's generally a good stock of eggs, milk, and other key household items. If you go during the day time, there's usually sample stations out and about for you to try new goodies. Their gas station lines tend to move quickly. Better to come on weekdays if you need to fill up your tank. You can also generally find parking, though it might be a bit of a walk. Now that they've installed the card scanners at the front, it does take much longer to be able to get into the store - especially with other customers being super pushy and cutting their way in line, which isn't so pleasant. During the exit process, the staff also have tried to get 3 lines going, but with how the lines are spaced, it's had for folks to form 3 distinct lines. Anyway, I still like coming to this Costco out of the other locations. Solid place to shop! read more

One of the best Costco's in the South Bay. This location has a decent selection and variety of food products. I visit this location at least 4-6 times a month. They have everything you need from home goods to snacks to every day meds. The fruit selection is great if you shop seasonal. The meat selection is always good and priced just right. They have a good selection of Asian staples and food products. One tip if your air pressure is ever off they do have 2 spots designated to fill your tires near the gas station. read more

This particular location has some unique finds including authentic Mochi (not the ice cream variety), real rice cakes, and other Asian snacks. This location also has a substantial alcohol section, much larger than most I've seen. Since frame selection varies a bit by location, I revisited this location. A dark hair woman, heavyset and likely under 30, waited on me. She was curt, abrupt to the point of rudeness, but I found what I wanted and ordered two pair of progressive bifocals. I returned home and found errors on the receipt. She had entered the wrong data on the order. I called to cancel order, explaining she had entered data differently than doctor's prescription. I was told I had to make a return trip to the store for the order to be cancelled, which made no sense to me. That seemed really puzzling to me, but I made what seemed like an unnecessary trip. Service at the Almaden, Cambrian Park and Senter locations has always been better, more friendly and more informative. TIP: Visit other nearby Costco locations for better service. read more

The system needs to go back to the good old days. Before you could walk in and buyer your tires and the always had them in stock and the would do your car on the same day or the next day. Today when you go in to order tires they tell you to go on line and order them and pay before setting up your appointment a week later. I did what they said and I came on my appointment waiting an hour before they told me they had the wrong size. This is not the first time this has happened. I love Costco and will always do business with them, but never again waste my time buying tires here again for my whole family. This is hands-down, my (and my husband's) favorite Costco! Even from the outside the parking lot is huge. The parking spaces are spacious. There's never any issue with finding a parking spot or it's too crowded and you're constantly driving for 10 minutes trying to look for a spot or follow someone to their car for a spot. The builder of this Costco location is a genius because there are multiple exits/entries into the location so there is never any backed up traffic even on weekends. The layout is clean. The inside is also spacious, the store layout is straightforward and everything is easy to find. My husband and I will go out of our way to come to this Costco. So much so that we actually moved closer to this area because of the store lol (totally worth it)! The gas station is also spacious and the lines move quickly. It also has one of the cheaper gas prices around the area. One pretended to "check cameras" and came back with a false claim that I wasn't within the grace period. Another gave a different story about the grace window, showing even management wasn't consistent. * The entire experience was unprofessional, disorganized, and dismissive of customers' time. Rather than arguing over grace periods, they should focus on better staffing and customer service. I've been a loyal Costco member for years, but this location's tire shop is the worst I've experienced. This is my local Costco that I go to every two weeks or so for groceries, pharmaceutical items, gas, and a tire air pumping station. It opened in 2016 so it's relatively new. I like how clean it is and they always have what I need. I have to say I've encountered some crazy/aggressive drivers in the parking lot. I distinctly remember trying to back out of the tire air pump area and one man almost hit me at full speed because he couldn't wait for the car in front of him to move. That was a scary incident. Longtime Costco Fan Deeply Disappointed with Declining Meat Quality Let me start by saying: I am Costco's #1 fan. No matter where I travel, my first stop is always the nearest Costco. At home, we do weekly Costco runs--sometimes even multiple times a week. I've always trusted Costco for quality, value, and consistency. So leaving a negative review is not something I do lightly. We live in the San Jose, CA area, and shop regularly at the Great Oaks Costco, which has been our go-to warehouse. Unfortunately, over the past 18 months, we've seen a steady decline in the quality of the meat, and we're not the only ones. Friends and family in the area have noticed it too. The final straw for us was a pack of PRIME tri-tip that was so poorly cut and tough that my boys had to be forced to eat it--which has never happened before with Costco meat. The texture was off, the marbling inconsistent, and the trimming looked amateur at best. And it's not just a one-time issue. Whether it's Prime, Wagyu, or Choice, the cuts are no longer up to Costco standards. It's as if the experienced butchers have been replaced with undertrained staff. Every package feels like a gamble now. Costco, what happened? I never thought I'd be saying this, but lately I'm finding better meat--and at a better price when on sale--at places like Safeway. For a brand that built its reputation on quality and trust, this is a big letdown. Great Costco location has gas, a station to fill your own tires with air, food court, and bakery. We always come here for personalized cakes for large birthdays. We once hosted a May birthday and they accommodated writing over 10 names on a large sheet cake. You can't beat the price for this size of a cake - highly recommend! Folks at the tire service area are super nice. Pro tip: if you need a tire service and can't find an appointment, you can actually line up an hour before the store opens without an appointment and they will service you on a first come first serve basis. I'm not sure what's happening with Costco's business model, but I'm starting to think of it as Costlyco. The last week or two, gasoline has been 20-30 cents more per gallon than at off-brand gas stations in my neighborhood. A 35-can set of 12-ounce Coke cans, once around $11-12, is now $19 (minus 1 cent; all prices mentioned are minus 1 cent). I can get the same cans for about 20% less at local supermarkets when 12-ounce Coke is on sale. This store no longer carries inexpensive facial tissues or any dishwashing gloves. The facial tissues available are expensive. I bet I can do better at Target, Safeway, or online. Finally, there's this experience from yesterday. A display advertised an ice wine from Ontario for $30. At the cash register, it rang up at $34. I said, the display says $30. Someone went to check and came back. Nope, she said. So I paid and then went to customer service. The rep there (very nice person) said, Oh, the item you bought has a different item number from the advertised $30 item. They must be different! And also refused to acknowledge an obvious $4 error. Out of principle, I returned the ice wine. See the photos below. Failing to charge an advertised price is a violation of state law, namely Business and Professions Code section 12024.2(a)(1), and store personnel should be trained to know this. The $4 overcharge is a misdemeanor under subdivision (b) of the statute, and although I wouldn't want anyone led away in handcuffs, this store should know better than to insist that this unusual item is different as advertised from what was charged. read more
