We shopped at this large and well stocked Foodland every day we were in town. The Produce and salad bar was very fresh and they had an excellent selection of meats, including smoked salmon plus a large variety of dairy and yogurt products including hard to find soy and almond yogurts. I'm a 48 year old man on a cruise stop, buying a 6 pack of beer. I might look a little younger than my biological age, but no one has mistaken me for a minor in a very long time. With a smile I place the beer on the counter. The woman behind the counter, a short overweight lady I would guess to be in her early to mid-30's just scowls at me, before asking for my ID (it's been a long time since I was carded at all). With a smile I hand her my Canadian Permanent Resident card, issued by the federal government of Canada, whose border is about 30 miles away from where I was standing. She inspects it quizzically before handing it back to me saying "it needs to have an expiration date." Confused, I take the ID back to inspect it, and again cheerfully, I point her to the bottom of the card with the expiration date, and my birthdate directly above it. She again looks it over like she can't really read, hems and haws and acts like maaaybe she is going to ring the order up, but maybe not. Here's where I made a mistake apparently- I jokingly said "my 21st birthday is over 27 years old, what exactly is the issue?" and shrugged, she immediately shoves the ID back at me and says "I'm not going to serve you." Shocked, I ask to speak to the manager, but I notice there is a customer behind me so I ask her to please take care of him first since she had been wasting our time for a couple minutes now. She ignores that and leaves him waiting while she gets the manager. I'm expecting the manager would have half a brain and some sense of customer service unlike the clerk, but the also 30-something manager young enough to be my daughter looks at the ID and says "we're not going to serve you." I should have asked whether she thinks I'm under 21 years of age (preposterous) or that my federally issued Canadian ID is fake (ridiculous), instead I just left empty-handed as she said "we do things differently in Alaska." What a nice store Foodland IGA and ACE Hardware share the same building space and the inventory is well stocked. The cost if living here in Juneau is apparently much higher than California. The apparent positive side is that there is no state tax and residents get an annual state refund. A small bottle of tide liquid detergent was $10.59 and it's $5.69 at home. My deodorant which is $3.29 at home is $7.19 here in Juneau. A Harley Davidson T-shirt which is $29-$36 at home at the Harley Store is $53-$55 here in Juneau. What a beautiful place to visit. almost 5pm I hoped to grab a deli dinner only, but they had loong lines at only two checkouts, couldn't get out in seven minutes to catch my bus so I put the food back and left. In Juneau for only 5 days, and hit this store every single day. The store never seems to disappoint. They have the best selection of zero sugar sports drinks I've ever seen. Fantastic selection of cookies including Newman's own fat Free fig Newtons. Only complaint, and I'm not taking off points, is they don't have a single brand of string cheese. Let me take that back. They do have some artsy fartsy brand of string cheese that costs $13 for about 7 oz. read more

There are a couple of male staff who are overly attentive to women ignoring others and giving unwanted attention. In other cases cashiers have given up on something that won't ring up and end up over charging me by scanning the previous item twice. It just isn't worth the hassle or trying to budget in. read more

It's an IG, if you've been to one, you've been to many. It's a decent grocery store and it's in downtown. Prices are kind of high. They do have an ACE hardware bolted on, so you can get some camping supplies you might not always find in an IGA. I picked up some gas for a my camp stove. read more

When I moved to Juneau in the 1980s, Foodland was the only grocery store; neither Fred Meyer nor Safeway existed. It was a great place, with a wide selection of products and a real butcher. It was family-owned then; I wonder if it is today. Many stores were family-owned, then the little store in Auke Bay and the Breeze. Much has changed in Juneau; it has become commercialized and tourist-driven. Tourism was in its infancy then, with three ships a week. read more

Well organized grocery store. Had everything we needed. Went there twice on my trip to Juneau.

I've shopped several Foodland stores before this one, but never IGA Foodland. That may be the reason why customer service at this one is horrible. Sometimes, I'll have merch that I've previously purchased from there in a bag when I enter the store, no problem for 2 months. Now, all of a sudden, they think I'm shoplifting. Mind you, I keep all receipts because of this. Cashier JENNIFER and asst. mngr. JONATHAN were given valid receipts, but kept accusing me. I said 20 times check camera's from the time I entered the store. Finally, they saw the right receipt, and said they'll check the camera's tomorrow. All over a bag of beans. Mind you, I pay at least $150 cash every week in that store. I will be back for a follow up with store Mngr, because I had a previous issue with another cashier who refused to double my bags, which the Mngr did apologize. Again, I don't think is all Foodland, just this IGA one. I'm neat, clean and I ride the bus. I carry a large backpack, and I really think that they're judging me based from that, which is deplorable. read more

I have to say IGA Foodlands: produce, deli, and hot cold bar are good. The overall experience is a quaint store, with a lot of variety. A carefully selected group of items. I feel like this store has a sense of purpose; with what it being sold. The deli has a variety of cultural different foods that have been westernized. I've only tried one soup since my return; and it was palatable, but not amazing. One dilemma I have with IGA is the fact that although it has great items selected for the store; and the store has a a sense of purpose and direction. I feel the stores fiscal policies are dated. Gift cards aren't reusable. No way to make purchases online, in an effective and efficient manner. No delivery system. The stores own essentials line up is okay. The quality wasn't bad; much better than one would think for affordable foods. read more

I came in here this past Tuesday( Later on in the day.) and noticed that the yogurt that I wanted to purchase was about to expire in 4 days. Yet there was NOTHING to warn buyers of this. NOT on the product OR on the shelf anywhere! THAT'S DEFINITELY NOT NORMAL. I brought this to the attention of the cashier. I can't remember his name. He was a heavyset guy with a low haircut( fade) and glasses, working the first registered to your left when you come into the store. He didn't seem to care at all and couldn't answer my question as to why was this on the shelf and why isn't  there anything to let people know that it's about to expire! I also asked him if there were anyone here that was in charge of stocking that area and he said that he was only one there. So my question to management is WHY  does this individual NOT know about the section that he is in charge of stocking? And why doesn't he care that there is food over there that's about to expire and no one would know about it when buying unless they read the labels like I do!? *This same employee couldn't tell me a week or so ago why is it that my phone number attached to my discount card isn't working even though it was used the first day I got it( and DIDN'T bother trying to find out.) and it's now been probably at least 3 weeks since I first used my card. People like this don't deserve to have a job and sadly there usually picked over people who do! Also, I noticed that the small freezer section you have of seafood that's supposed to be "fresh" not the ready to eat products is COMPLETELY COVERED in FROST BITE! There's NOOOO WAY that's okay to sale! And it's BEYOND DISGUSTING! This store is TOO EXPENSIVE to be having these sort of issues and I will NOT be coming here again! read more

I really like this place, or at least I did, so I'm giving 2 stars but the quality of the sandwich I got today was poor. The avocado was black and the sandwich still had another day to go according to the sell by date. This is a great way to make someone sick. You might want to do a little more training with your deli staff. read more

Foodland IGA replaced Alaska & Proud (A&P), in downtown Juneau for those willing to pay more for the convenience of a supermarket without driving out to the valley just to shop for groceries. They carry Cyrus O'Leary's Kahlua Cream Pie for USD 14.99, it's available here but more than what Safeway and Super Bear charges for this item. read more

Wow! Food land got a major facelift! Totally impressed with the hot food and salad bar selection! The flooring is a huge improvement. We spend our summers in Juneau and it is nice to know we don't have to run to the valley for decent shopping. 4 stars because some of the hot food looks better than it taste.
