I used to love coming here any time I was craving Mexican food. Mainly the Carne Asada Fries and Cali Burritos. But recently they started putting refried beans in both, trying to make it seem like you're getting a good amount of the meat and fries but all they're doing is filling their meals up with beans. Today I ordered a Cali burrito with extra cheese and guac but instead I got a burrito filled with refried beans. Minimal cheese and no guac. They charged me almost $10 for a burrito that wasn't even worth the normal price. Sounds like Cotijas is just trying to make an extra buck now instead of delivering on quality and tastey food. read more

Once I find a good taco shop, I'm fiercely loyal, and you better work to change my mind. It happened with this place..Once I had the hash brown burrito here, I jumped ship from my old joint and made this home. I have never had a bad experience at this place. They hustle to get your order out promptly, and for the most part...the quality is consistently great. The combo meals are very well priced for what you get, and you will never leave hungry! Even the vegetarian burritos are huge and delicious! The best kept secret here is the Tampiquena (number 16..I think) Beans, Rice, Carne Asada, and a cheese enchilada! Accompanied by two tortillas large enough to serve as a homeless shelter...you can dump it all together and make a MOAB (Mother of all Burritos) Always Delicious...It will likely take an act of God to get me to leave this place! read more

Hooked! This is easily one of the best Burritos ive had in San Diego. I strictly order the Steak and Eggs burrito. I crave it too often to even sample other items from the menu. I really enjoy the steak fajita burrito here. Most nights it's delicious, occasionally it misses the mark (usually on Sundays, I think?) The staff is friendly and the food pretty good. Really enjoy their red sauce and the hot carrots. read more

I've been going here since I was a little kid and it has always been an gem in my eyes. I always go for a classic BRC (beans, rice, and cheese), carne asada fries, and of course the HASH BROWN BURRITO! There are a lot of other cotija chains out there, but this one does have the best hot sauce ever! The Beef rolled taco are my fav! Ground beef not shredded. Rolled fish tacos the bomb. Carne Asada consistently good. The sauces you get are yummy, especially the chunky red sauce. Staff always pleasant and tables always clean. read more

Loved their Diablo shrimp burrito! It's shrimp rice and some creamy slightly sweet white sauce ( yea I went there!). There could of been more shrimp but that's just me.. It was a perfect amount of shrimp though. Workers were nice and salsa wasn't too bad. read more

Awesome food. The shrimp diablo is the best. The girl at the counter says I'm boring because I get it so much. I try other things, and then think "darn, should've stuck with the diablo". If you like spicy and shrimp, it goes off. Everything else I've had there seems to be really high quality as well and it wont break the bank. read more

This is the best Cotijas in San Diego. My favorite are the breakfast burritos here. They remodeled no to long ago and the place is looking good. The salsas they make at this location are fantastic. It's probably best to get here in the morning when all the stuff is fresh. Would be great for lunch AFTER Cowles mountain, don't scarf down a huge breakfast burrito and then walk like I did, bad idea! read more

one CON: chicken tacos... seasoning is awesome but the shell is like a taco bell shell, not like the shells THEY make for their beef tacos....... now with the pro's: LOVE this place and all the family that flies in from all over the country goes here. We absolutly love them and the seasoning for meat is dead on. No need for sauces at all. Never had anything bad on the menu (except for the mentioned above). Best taco shop in San Diego! I'm an East County native and this is our go to place for Mexican food. Tonight my husband and I both got the fish taco plate which was great as always. You can't beat a good sized great tasting piece of fish with a side of their delicious beans and rice. The shrimp burrito is another staple here and it's what I get 90% of the time I come here. This place has my favorite vegetarian burrito in town... they add sour cream and cheese and they don't scrimp on any of the toppings like many taco shops do on veggie burritos.
