I have been eating lunch here lately and I really enjoy my experiences . The staff are very sweet and they have the cutest dining room , with excellent air conditioning. Anytime we visit this Estrada's, I check the Specials menu board on an easel next to the service counter. On this day, one of the specials spoke to me. The Estrada's Surf 'n Turf. Carne or pollo (I chose carne), shrimp, Swiss sauce, rice, cheese and mushrooms. Atypical burrito ingredients, particularly "Swiss sauce", which honestly, I had no idea what to expect. I was intrigued. It was one of the best, most interesting burritos that I've ever had. The flavors all worked so well together. The burrito was loaded with carne and shrimp. The ratio of rice was perfect. Not too much rice. The Swiss sauce carried that Swiss cheese tang. Mushrooms were a subtle, but welcome addition. It was a fat burrito that fed me twice. Becky ordered a tried-and-true Carne Asada Burrito and was very happy with it. Estrada's carne burritos are always great. They also always ask if you want American or Mexican guacamole. Always appreciate the option. Bex always gets the real stuff. This Estrada's is located at 9630 Carlton Hills Blvd, next to Pathways church. It's a small place in a strip mall and it gave off "family owned" vibes. A lot of Hispanic people eating there which obviously is a great sign. Went to the farmers market in this parking lot and stopped by here. Heard that the meatball soup was popular so we ordered that and fish tacos, chips and guacamole. Didn't realize that they charge a full bag of chips. It came out in a small brown bag. The guacamole wasn't as fresh as I liked. Fiancé said the fish taco was good. It was big. Albondigus was flavorful and meaty. It was a big container not the half size. It came with two flour tortillas, rice, onion and cilantro for you to make your own taco. Although the fish tacos were good, we wouldn't come back for that. We would come back for the meatball soup. read more

I enjoyed a very nice bowl of albondigas soup from this Mexican Eatery. The soup came with a good amount of large Mexican beef meatballs, root vegetables, and a side of rice, onions, and cilantro which I quickly put into the mix. They also give you warm corn tortillas, some lime, and salsa. I broke up the meatballs into quarters which really made for eating the soup much easier, not to mention easier for making little tacos with the tortillas. The albondigas were tasty and so was the soup. However, I did add some of the red salsa to spice it up and for the added flavor. Adding the rice to the soup is always a good thing. It gives the soup a little extra filling, if you know what I mean, and it taste good in there too! It was a very filling bowl of soup and not badly priced at $8 and some change. An Ode to Carne Asada Fries I've lived in Santee for about three and a half years now. Estrada's (by the church that should really be a like a Vons, or something, instead of a church, but, alas, I guess that's for another review) flew under my radar for most of my time here. I don't recall what specifically made me go to Estrada's instead of Marietta's or Cotija's, but I know that I wanted Carne Asada fries and that's what I ordered on my first (and all subsequent) visit(s). Estrada's offers two versions of their Carne Asada fries (a basic and a deluxe) which is a freaking genius way doing business. The basic version includes fries, carne asada, and melted cheeses. THIS is my favorite. It's tasty, straightforward, and delicious. I've gotten the deluxe version--which includes guac, salsa, sour cream, etc. But my heart belongs to the classic. It's delicious and filling, but unapologetically simple. I've read a lot of the sub-4-star reviews about Estrada's and I have thoughts that I'll briefly share. Estrada's is a Mexican food shop based in Santee. They make good food, priced reasonably, for normal people living in our neighborhood. If you're looking for the next revolutionary hipster Mexican eatery locale, look elsewhere (but you won't, because Santee is legit the final frontier when it comes to reasonable--haha, right, sure, okay--home prices in San Diego County, and you can't afford to buy a home anywhere else these days) but don't roll up and write a 3-star review because Estrada's was here long before *you*. I just brought lunch home for my wife and myself. My wife had two shredded beef tacos when I tell you there was a hint of shredded beef on these tacos. I could be exaggerating. I ordered a shredded beef bowl with with beans and rice. I could not believe how small the portions were Not big eaters but we both finished our lunch and we're still hungry. This is the first time I've tried this particular one, but I know I will never go back. My son and I came here and food was ok, he had a California burrito that seemed to be lacking in size, it wasn't to much bigger than the flour tortilla I had for my Huevos Rancheros plate. Serving size appeared to be lacking but food was ok, green sauce was good but the red sauce kind of tasted like a spicy ketchup. New to the neighborhood, I needed to find a new go-to taco shop. I got lucky that Estrada's is the closest and first place I tried. At taco shops, I'm a two-trick pony: breakfast burrito and California burrito. Today was test #1: breakfast. I called in my order, the guy was polite and thorough; taco shop phone answerers aren't always such, so that was a good start. "It will be ready in five minutes, señor"; five minutes, good to know they don't mess around. The Place: clean and well maintained, some nice oak-looking dinette sets for seating are an upgrade from standard taco shop booths (which they also have). They have a Clover credit card system which is nice and modern. The Burrito: standard breakfast burrito (i went with sausage/egg/cheese/potatoes) that checked all the boxes. Average size, delicious. I think it's hard to screw up a breakfast burrito, and they certainly didn't. Search for my local-go-to-breakfast-burrito complete. The Salsas: this is the most important aspect of the breakfast burrito, IMO, nd their red and green salsas are TOP NOTCH. The red let's you know it's there and the heat lingers a bit but doesn't overpower or make you dive for a drink, the green is super flavorful with just a hint heat that doesn't hang around. This was test 1.a and they passed with flying colors, would confidently put these salsas in any order. read more
