Their tacos have shrunk. I ordered three and was surprised how small they were. I even went back inside to ask the lady behind the counter if they gave me street tacos instead of full size and she assured me they are full size. Judge for yourself. Maybe it was because they were half off for taco Tuesday hence they were half the size? Time to find a new taco shop. read more

The food here never disappoints. When we are running behind and need breakfast this is our go to. The breakfast burritos are so good. My kids also love the breakfast quesadilla. The portions are huge and I love the spicy carrots. We use DoorDash and the order always arrives fresh and still hot. We have drove past a couple times and it seems to be a convenient and nice location. read more

I've been coming to Ferney's for fifteen years or so. Recently, they've cut the amount of salsa that they give you. So, whether I get the California Burrito, the Ferny Burrito or the Big Breakfast Burrito I always ask for for 4 Fea and 3 Green Salsas. Lately they put 6 Salsas in my bag instead of 7. No one mentions it. They've never said to me, listen if you want seven salsas.We need to charge you for the seventh one. You know, at least that way.I could make a decision if I wanted to pay for it or not. They don't say anything.They leave me with six salsas, and I was joking around in my mind, Thinking perhaps they can't count. I've been going there twice a week for years, and once a month or so I get Breakfast Burritos for the entire Office Staff. Recently, I tried another taco shop.Basically, cheating on my buddy, Ferny and that's my new spot now. They don't mind how many salsas I ask for and their food is delicious. As far as food goes, I give Ferny's Five Stars, as far as communication from the girl, behind the counter to the customer, its just not good, That's why they're getting one star on this review. I ordered the chilaquiles with a Jamica drink. The chilaquiles came with scrambled eggs instead of overeasy which makes all the difference with the yoke. I stated it was my fault and ordered overeasy eggs on the side as a second purchase. It also came with a side of Refried beans that tasted straight out the can. The Jamaica was water down also. I give this place a rating from 1-10 a 3. No bueno. read more

This place was recommended to me by a good friend, and she was absolutely right. I really enjoyed this dish called Surf and Turf. It includes shrimp, beef, fries, and everything is topped with a delicious sauce. I highly recommend it to everyone. Great price, very tasty food, and friendly staff. Definitely recommend! read more

Updated Review: Still the best spot in town for great food and friendly service -- now with a fresh new look! My go-to favorites are the Hot Cheetos Burrito, Machaca Burrito, Carnitas Burrito, Bacon & Cheese Breakfast Burrito, and the Carne Asada Curly Fries. Just went to Ferny's for lunch. I didn't know what to try, so I just went with the 5 rolled tacos. I was disappointed that it was just guacamole & cheese on top, so I had them add lettuce. Flavor was ok, nothing too special. The spot was a typical taco shop. The service was ok. I didn't even realize she was talking to me because she wasn't looking at me at all. I may or may not be back. I just happened to be in the area and decided to try it. I gave it 4 stars because any taquitos that is guacamole & cheese is never 5-stars. I need to give this another try to see if it gets 3 stars or 5 next time. read more

It's a pretty solid spot. We had the carne asada fries, carne asada burrito and carnitas mini tacos. Everything was really good, but their red sauce was super mild and had too much of tomato pasta sauce flavor for us. Ferny's is one of the best taco shops I've found. It's our go-to when we aren't exploring for new places. Their salsa is top notch (our favorite is the Fea/ hottest one). Our go-to orders there are the Steak and egg Breakfast burrito (pro-tip add chipotle cream sauce ), Surf and Turf Fries, carne asada and adobada tacos. The staff treated me very rudely, as if we were getting something for free, and they behaved arrogantly. This taco shop doesn't look like much from the outside but the tacos were actually very good I loved the spicy shrimp taco. The carne asada was just okay. My friend liked the pork adobo better than the carne asana as well. It just took about five minutes for them to prepare our food There are just a few tables inside and it isn't fancy. I would just suggest getting it to go. read more

This is my go to place for street tacos in Santee. If you ever have a craving for street tacos, this place will definitely satisfy it! I always order three carne asada mini tacos, and get all the salsas on the side. The salsas are tasty, so make sure you get all three. The meat quality seems good and I love that they give you a grilled pepper and grilled green onions on the side. read more

I walked in and made an order to go for a carnitas burrito and a crispy beef taco. I enjoyed the carnitas burrito. It was very simple with the meat (which did have good flavor - pretty solid carnitas), pico, guacamole. I enjoy burritos like this that are simple without rice and beans. It could have been a little bigger. The taco was also good, but not great... for a crispy taco it could have been a little more crispy. The service was fine for a typical take out place. No complaints. A very casual atmosphere. Overall a pretty good spot to pick up some tacos/burritos to go. If you're into loaded French fries, I hear they have good ones here. read more

I've heard over and over again from several friends that this is THE spot for mexican/taco shop in the area and I have to agree... for the tacos. I had a burrito here once and that was not that great in terms of price, portion, and taste, however, I then followed up with the tacos... THE TACOS! The regular (non-mini) tacos themselves are quite pricey, (~$6 each depending on the protein you choose), however, it is so worth it. They are pretty hefty and the amount of protein makes up for it. I am a sucker for a fresh, hand-pressed tortilla, and these do not disappoint. The chew and bite into the tortilla is soft yet firm enough to told the monstrosity of fillings that it comes with. I recommend the fish, carne, and adobada. I decided to try a crispy potato taco for once, something I don't tend to order, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The crunchy shell was nicely fried and the potato had really great flavor with pico and sour cream on top. wow, I'm a fan now! read more

Great Mexican food when ur in Santee, we use to go here a lot when we lived around this area years ago. The down side I saw was the hot sauces didn't have any spiciness to them and with little flavor other then tomatoes. The veggie burrito was not seasoned as well, it had bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, very little potatoes and beans, it was supposed to have rice in it but I never got to any. The burritos are also on the smaller side which is disappointing because the price is high. The good about this taco shop, the carne asada fries were actually big and good, the carne asada had flavor and there was a lot of it, the diablo burrito was delicious and the diablo sauce was perfect, a little hint of heat but packed with goodness. read more

Our server's name was Cat, and she was fantastic, very friendly, engaging, attentive,and energetic. Unfortunately that all changed when Cat came to our table with another server named Mimi and said that she was going home and Mimi was taking over. The service immediately went south. Mimi was 180° from Cat. She was not very friendly, not enthusiastic, not attentive and seemed very low energy. We watched her walk around the floor several times yawning with her mouth wide open no attempt to cover it up, this was very offputting. We waited 20 minutes after Cat left, and Mimi never came by our table to ask us if we needed anything. She appeared to be ignoring the entire section. She spent most of her time standing over by the wait station or talking to customers at the bar (which I assume we're not her customers). The only reason we were able to order another round is another server that was not working our section came by and asked us if we needed anything. When Mimi finally did come to our table, we just asked for the check so we could pay and leave. The name on the check was Miranda so I'm not sure what that is about. We did also observe that the two bartenders who were working seemed to be cut from the same cloth as Cat, as they were friendly, engaging moving around quickly taking care of those sitting at the bar. If we're ever back in the area and decide to try again, if we see Mimi is working, we will either leave and go somewhere else , or maybe try to sit in someone else's section.

The throwback rock music suits the establishment, and isn't too loud if you want a good convo. There are also lots of TVs both inside and out. Today's server, Lizzy, was so amazing! i realized the prices keep going up here im glad these people finally did, their food is worth alot more then what it was and their creativity with food is just amazing. It is pretty clear that these guys are not your average taco shop, still compared to alot of places i have eated they are still so cheap and their food never loses its flavor. i recomend the diablo burrito and HLS burrito. amazing burritos and their new curly fries are pretty good aswell i think i might have found my new taco shop. also the service is amazing their is a young man there that would never have imagined working in a taco shop before that is so friends and kind to customers. This place is pretty good they have a salsa bar inside with the best hot carrots that makes your trip worth while right there. Defiantly try the HLS burrito it's bomb the chipotle mayo is so tasty but get it with chicken instead of carne asada. The place looks like it needs some TLC maybe a paint job and some decoration. My new favorite taco shop in Santee!! Can't no other shin-dig around here serve up some pollo asado curly fries like fernys ¡boom! Mind blown first time I tried this Wednesday definitely coming back soon to try one of their signature burritos. They were awesome but they have gotten kind of lazy. They still have the best flavored and cut of carne asada in Santee, however they keep overcooking/burning rhe meat. Also their chips are so good but they keep the bags well past their sale by date so 1/2 the time you get chips that just TASTE old. Plus they constantly burn the chips! I don't know if they changed cooks or if the cook is over it but something is off with them. read more

Awesome place! Its a little "hole in the wall" type place and the food is awesome. Always used to order the ferny's fries and then they let me try the Buffalo chicken fries for free, now im hooked! All of the tacos are made with hand made tortillas and they are so tasty. especially the carnitas taco.
