This Cotton Patch has been here for years and has gone up and downhill. I believe the place is better than what it used to be, the service was amazing! It didn't take long to get our drinks and the food came out much quicker than expected. Everything tasted great and I would definitely come back! Was in town for Mothers day Sunday 2025 my BIL & myself had the fish & shrimp trays they were absolutley delicious , better than some places that specialize in seafood . All 4 of our meals were great , served hot & in a timely manner , with wonderful wait staff , I had eaten there before had the pork chop witch was really good as well . My family and I, were weary after our travels through College Station. We decided to go eat at Cotton Patch Cafe. NO BREAKFAST despite what Google said. The people here seem very nice so that's good, but the food was mediocre. My chicken fried steak was not as good as I would hope it would have been. My daughter's plate of pasta had some unnecessary amounts of water in it. Also, my daughter found a mysterious lipstick stain on her glass of tea. The twist is that no one in our group wears lipstick. We then had ordered the Dr. Pepper Cake, it was actually pretty good, and that is a first for us here. Came here for the first time with my family. We were provided with amazing and welcoming customer service. All the staff are friendly and fast. We ordered the fried pickles and mozzarella sticks (both super crispy and delicious), honey bbq chicken tenders (very crispy and flavorful), chicken fried brisket (super tender and the gravy and Dr. Pepper dipping sauce are delicious), chicken fried chicken (crispy, huge, and flavorful), and a cheeseburger (nothing special). I've eaten at worse places. Most of the bites of my Southwest Chicken Salad did not taste bad. My glass of tap water was okay. * * * I couldn't see the TV with the Florida-Florida Atlantic game. The glass on the booth across from me was sufficiently smudged that it could obscure the picture on a TV screen. The rest of my view was three tables of dirty dishes none of which had been bussed. My waitress was really overworked. But when I asked to take care of the tables, she was nice about it. She took away the dirty dishes on all three tables. This way I only had to look at the crumbs and the left over food. The dishes at least were gone. * * * There were similar problems throughout the dining room. I ordered a child's menu for my nephew. He selected a hamburger with fries and green beans. Ordered to go, I got there before it was ready so it would be hot. Ugh! There was nothing about this meal which was good. The fries were soggy and unsalted so basically tasteless, the green beans were canned beans which tasted salty and icky, the burger had been salted or seasoned and ruined the taste. It was overpowering. For $7.58 it was a total waste of money. If we had been eating there, I would have sent it back. As it was I just threw it away. Don't waste your money! They serve nothing but garbage food here. It's no wonder they Fry everything and then drown it in gravy. High sodium, canned food. I was so disappointed, how could they ruin a burger and fries so badly? Ick and ugh Parking is easy, interior is nice, it is seated table service. Menu is pretty limited. Don't bother coming here. My parents like this place for a few specific things. Most of the food is pretty good comfort food. I've not been inside the place but once and it was ok. I've ordered delivery from them several times for my parents. The only thing I wouldn't do would be to order the steak. It's disappointing. They love the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and broccoli and cheese casserole. I will say that ordering online is very easy and delivery is shockingly fast. They send text messages to let you know when they are going to deliver, and it's been pretty accurate. They don't always knock. This place will always have the wonkiest service but I had to update my review from 11 years ago. The service staff had always been short handed since I was a baby. During COVID, one waitress is covering 7 tables and I still get quick tea refills. A LOT of people order to-go from here and that, I believe, has kept them going. The lunch specials are where it's at. Chicken fried anything is incredible here. The fried seafood was always my favorite as a child. Place is underrated if you want to be immersed in the true grit of Texan cuisine. Yeah some might consider this elevated cafeteria food but they keep it interesting (like with their new fried brisket). Don't knock it until you try it! read more

First walking in the floors have a sticky feeling to them not sure if it's the cleaning product used but the floors and booths are sticky. We ordered chicken and catfish the chicken was okay kinda rubbery and didn't like the catfish at all. When the staff member asked the manager they stated the catfish is marinated with Tabasco which can cause it to taste different. So warning if you don't like Tabasco you might not like the catfish. Used to love CottonPatch but not so much anymore. The food is overly salted and over cooked lately. Could be a simple issue of a new cook but it is dragging them down. We take advantage of the delivery service but be aware that they are not paying attention to the orders and what gets packed. For the third time we ordered a loaded baked potato and no toppings were in the bag. We did get rolls but no butter, nothing worse than a dry roll. We used to order once a week but no more not sure when we will be willing to try again read more

Me and my friends both ordered fried chicken steaks, I had fried okra and green beans as sides and she had mac'n cheese and mashed potatoes. They have rolls as starters, which are soft and tasty. The fried green tomatoes are amazing. I never thought tomatoes can bee deep fried and they actually taste pretty good, and made me feel less guilty eating too much fried meat. It comes with two dippings, avocado and ranch. Glad I don't like ranch and my friend doesn't like avocado. The fried chicken steak portion is huge. The meat itself is same size as (probably larger than) my face. The meat inside is soft and not dry. The white gravy is also very good. You can't expect more for a $10 fried food meal. It's not "close" in regards of how other restaurants are to campus or housing/apts. near campus but it's worth the drive. I came with a group of friends before graduation for an early dinner and though it was packed, we got seated quickly. I got the chicken friend steak with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. If I wasn't starving I wouldn't have ever finished that meal. The portion size was huge. Unless a restaurant is known for their CFS never order it for a meal bc it's a good chance it's frozen and won't be good. I have been going to Cotton Patch for years. Always great food and service. I'm not sure if management has changed or what, but today was the worst experience I've had at the Temple, TX branch. I was actually shocked when a wait person left me a couple of rolls that looked like they had been smashed, literally. The tea wasn't even up to parr. Needless to say the dining experience was ruined. I finally stopped a different wait person since mine didn't seem to want to be bothered. He was glad to bring me a roll that was actually brown from being cooked AND not smashed. Thanks to that wait person. You know who you are!! Worst experience ever at Cotton Patch. I have NO clue why this restaurant only has an average of 3 stars! I read some of the lower reviews and I just don't get it. I thought it was delicious! I ordered chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac n' cheese. For about $8.00 I would have been able to make three meals out of the portions they give you. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak and also agreed that the food was yummy. While waiting for our food they gave us some yummy rolls to snack on which were fresh out of the oven. The service was a tad slow, but my company was nice and the food was well worth it. If I lived in Texas, this place would probably be my go to. read more
