We arrived too late for dinner but spent the night in the parking lot anyway. That might seem weird, but we're traveling across Texas in our campervan and Cracker Barrel tolerates overnight parking in their lots with the kind request that if you're having a meal, that you have it with them. So we did. First thing in the morning. Well, 7am when they opened. We were at the door and seated. Coffee arrived and not too long after, a fabulous breakfast. Mrs. K. loved her French Toast which was cooked properly and there was enough to go with us for snacking later. I demolished my breakfast. Uncle Hershel's with basted eggs, bacon, hashbrown casserole and Mrs. K. stole my fried apples. With the biscuits and jam to share, a fabulous meal. I actually groaned when my girlfriend recommended we eat at Cracker Barrel, while we were out of town, trying to get back home, and dealing with a transportation crisis. It had been ages since I had been, and now as a gluten-free eater, I imagined just country fried steak, biscuits, and green beans. And while they do have these things, I was so happy that they had a quite diverse menu that I ate from with delight. It's not an exaggeration that Cracker Barrel ended up as the highlight of the trip amongst an onslaught of travel issues. The gift shop one walks through to get to the dining area was stuffed with odd but interesting things, and the dining area itself was spacious and heavily decorated, with a large array of windows letting in some sunshine. Our waitress Elena was young, bubbly, and not to be found without a smile on her face. My steak was perfectly cooked, although with a small bite or two of tough gristle, and my chicken was soooo tender. The broccoli had a great crunch and wasn't soggy, the mashed potatoes were hearty and tasted great without a drop of gravy. There is a reason this restaurant only has three stars. Sunday March 22, 2026 7:35 am My family of eight were scheduled to meet at Cracker Barrell in Bryan Texas at 7:45 am Sunday March 22. I arrived first. I am a 68-year-old woman and asked for a table for eight with four kid's menus. The hostess (Rene) said she would seat me when the entire group was here. I said, "There is no one here in the restaurant, why can't I be seated?" Rene replied that corporate frowns on seating people ahead of time before their whole party arrives because they look at the "seat time" between that and when everyone is served. They don't want customers waiting a long time for their food and if we sat you now, it would be a wait before you ordered, and we would get in trouble." (So, an extended wait from "seating to food received" is bad customer service but not seating them when there is absolutely no one in the restaurant isn't bad customer service?) I replied, "but I would like to sit and order coffee" knowing that my husband and kids would be arriving in just a few minutes.... She replied that she could bring me a cup of coffee. I asked, if you are going to do that, why can't I just sit? And I asked to speak to the manager. Cassandra came out from the kitchen and said that it was corporate policy not to seat incomplete parties, and I said that I understood but that there was no one in the restaurant, that my family should arrive within minutes. She replied, then it will be a short wait for you to be seated. I said, "This is poor customer service, and I will write a letter of complaint to Cracker Barrell to which she replied, "Go ahead" and walked leisurely back into the kitchen. My whole family arrived within the next 5 minutes, and we were seated and Chanel served us with excellent customer service. Our bill was $68.00 and Chanel received thanks and a $20.00 tip. My family left the restaurant, and I continued to shop and spent $166.66. I used to manage several retail stores and customer service was the most important thing. I have been a long-time customer of Cracker Barrell and am a rewards customer. I am disappointed. Cassandra did not exemplify kindness or compassion. She was rigid and rude. Worst Cracker Barrel I've ever been to. There were only a few occupied tables, but they were unbelievably and unacceptably slow. Tables that came in after I did were served while I still waited. Asked them about the usual bread that comes with meals, I was told they were almost out, so no one was getting any bread unless they specifically asked for it. Ordered the hamburger steak, they asked me how I wanted it cooked. I don't know why they asked since they did it into a well done tough lump of a meat like substance. No drink refills during the meal, and clearly no one there seemed to care in the least about providing service. The manager there at the time I was there should have been embarrassed. To start off, I have to say that when this Cracker Barrel opened, my family was one of the first in the door for breakfast. We have always been fans, until now. My daughter and I went for dinner on 5/21/25 at about 5:30. The parking lot was definitely sparse, which should have been my first clue at how far downhill CB has slid. We were quickly seated, but I noticed that the dining room didn't seem very clean. There were butter packets and other assorted trash on the floor, and a general feel of stickiness. We ordered our drinks (tea-sweet and unsweet) while we looked over the menu. We got an order of fried pickles to share--fortunately these weren't too bad. However, the tea tasted less than fresh. She got the CF steak dinner with broccoli and fried apples. I ordered the trout with coleslaw and hashbrown casserole. She got biscuits and I the corn bread. We ran out of tea while waiting for our food, which when it came, we had no silverware. We sat in front of our food waiting for our server to finish with two other tables with no way to eat our food. Both of our dinners were very disappointing--the fish and hashbrown casserole were dry, favorless, and barely lukewarm. At least the coleslaw was tolerable. My daughter's CF steak was mediocre, and the broccoli (which she has always loved) unseasoned and mushy. She said the apples were ok. I was thinking how my recent stay in the hospital had better food than we were served. The cornbread and biscuits were hard, cold, and very dry. I got panicked at one point with a mouthful of dry cornbread as I had no drink to wash it down if I began choking. Our meal with tip (15% was more than generous) came to $50! For food and service this poor, I would not have expected to pay that much for two people. Overall the entire restaurant experience was disappointing and lacking in customer service. My girlfriend and I walked to the hostess counter and she was not there. We waited patiently and after a while the hostess still had not shown up. A number of waiters and service employees made eye contact with us but refused to acknowledge that we had been standing there for quite some time already, as was the party behind us. The attitude of "it's not my problem" seems to be the culture of this Cracker Barrel. Upon finally being seated, unfortunately our waiting experience with Esther was not much better. She made it rather difficult when taking our order and was asking if my girlfriend wants her eggs well done, medium, or medium rare... Nothing needs to be said about that. I had asked for coffee, which was ultimately forgotten and not brought until I reminded her and received it minutes before we left the restaurant. Additionally she had charged us wrong on the receipt. My girlfriend requested a fruit cup as a side, which was never brought. Finally a table next to us had dropped her glass of water on the floor , causing glass to spread everywhere. Every single employee stared at the customer as SHE was the one who got up and started to clean up the mess herself. It wasn't until she was finally done that someone stepped in with a broom and scooper. After that employee left NO wet floor sign was placed. Ok, while dropping my vehicle off for service, thought I walk here for coffee and some breakfast. Well, I was blown away and so happy I decided to! I have always liked CB's coffee... and wow this new breakfast item, "Biscuit Benny" simply amazing, the sauce, zing! The eggs cooked perfectly and the garnish was fresh (check out the photo). And I was honestly thinking before ordering just a biscuit and gravy with coffee... then when Karen brought it out, it had two extra biscuits and a side of gravy, BONUS!! So, I highly recommend this one, I do realize it's all about who's cooking, but I will be back for this one! Well done Cracker Barrel, this is a keeper. And huge praise for Karen my server, so nice, attentive and always checking on me, never let my coffee nor water get less than half, and brought me a coffee to go, just a nice person! read more

Came here for the first time with my wife. We ordered the hamburger steak (a single patty that tasted like it was a frozen and kind of dry) and the chicken fried chicken (good, but nothing special). So the crappy review is based on our total experience here. So our waiter, Louise is friendly and professional, but my goooooodness. So we started off with only forks even though we need knives to cut our food and a spoon for soup. Louise tells us he can give me a steak knife because they don't got any knives cleaned yet and the restaurant wasn't that busy. Then they forgot to smother my hamburger steak (sautéed onions and gravy). Even Louise made a comment, "I thought I heard you say that too." When I brought it up, he brings out my gravy in a bowl and raw onions (supposed to be sautéed) on a plate and still forgets our knives lol. My wife and I are sawing our food with a fork and our fingers. By the time he brings it out, we had already almost finished cutting them up. Our sides were corn (good), steak fries (ok), mashed potatoes (I asked for no gravy on the mash, but it was super dry and crumbly), and the dumplins (first time trying this and it was delicious even though I wasn't provided a spoon either so I had to drink out of my bowl while eating the rest with a fork smh). Our table came with biscuits and cornbread which were a tad bit bland, but both delicious. My wife also ordered a hot vanilla latte, but that never came at all then we got billed for it. Luckily, my wife remembered to bring that up with Louise and he removed it because we didn't want it anymore and he was nice enough to still make one for her free of charge. I don't know if he was busy, but he forgot quite a bit, I mean, we only order 3 items. Overall, staff are friendly and the service was fast, but definitely not a good experience. The prices are ok. Parking lot is huge and they have a lot of tables to dine on. They also have this huge store front to buy some cool souvenirs and food items. There is something about Cracker Barrel and their Pecan Pancakes (I also love their eggs and bacon.) I'm the type that can eat breakfast food all day/night. It was a day, couldn't decide what I wanted to eat, but knew that Pecan Pancakes would be good. It was quiet when I got here around 4, I was intrigued by the Chicken Fried Pork Chops-but had to have my pancakes. I'd mentioned my dilemma to my amazing waitperson 'Sandra'. Ends up I could get the Chicken Fried Pork Chops with my pecan pancakes as a side and even added the hash brown casserole as my other side. First thing I'd eaten since the Bombers game last night. This was one of the strangest Cracker Barrel experiences we've had. We visited on July 5 mid-afternoon with our 1 and 3 year olds. The hostess was practically non-verbal and tried to cram us in between other 4-top tables along the window. We asked to be reseated away from others. She still didn't speak to us and seated us at a table with a wet floor sign in front of it and floor underneath that was still sticky and wet, despite about half the tables being open. Then, she never brought us a high chair, so I had to step into the kitchen to find one myself and carry it through the dining room - twice because the first one had broken straps. My grilled chicken sandwich was tough and dry. Luckily, the rest of the food was good. Our waitress was sweet and very nice, but the experience was slow - it took an hour and a half for us to get in and out, which is not ideal while trying to manage two little ones. Wow. Just wow. We had a bad experience and decided to give Cracker Barrel another try. A decision we instantly regretted. We arrived at four, but they were already out of all the soup. Our server was very sweet and apologetic, but didn't seem to have an answer that made any sense. We then ordered drinks. Coffee and water. To say that the water was the highlight of our experience, should tell you something as to where this is going. It was a toss up whether the water or the coffee was colder. A home cooking restaurant, known for its comfort food, serving cold coffee and no soup. A bad moon rising. My husband asked to speak to the manager. He arrived at our table and my husband explained that we had had a poor experience the last time we were at Cracker Barrel. If this was going to be a repeat, then let us know, and we would be on our way. While my husband was explaining, I added three words to the conversation, "our coffee's cold." Well, this is about when the wheels came off the wagon. The manager said that he could not be "heckled" by two conversations. He told me that he was "talking to him" and therefore couldn't entertain my injection. I could not get my purse fast enough. I have no idea if our experience would have improved or not, because the attitude wielding manager chose to be sarcastic instead of helpful, but based upon our ten minutes and 0-2 count, I'm gonna say no. So, if you are a cold coffee, non-soup eating diner, who loves a good reprimand, then this is the place for you. We visited Cracker Barrel Old Country Store around lunchtime -- we had to wait approximately 50 minutes without a reservation. Our order consisted of Uncle Herschel's Favorite, Roast Beef, and Peach Tea. Uncle Herschel's Favorite wasn't my favorite. We had two sunnyside eggs, grits, fried apples, and fried fish -- from this order, we were missing the Sawmill Gravy and only realized it just now. The eggs tasted like any other eggs -- nothing special. The grits were very plain, dry, and a bit cold. The fried apples tasted very fresh, but they were too sweet for me, and I love sweets. The only thing I actually enjoyed from Uncle Herschel's Favorite was the fried fish -- it was fresh and very delicious. The Peach Tea was sweet, so if you order it, I'd also recommend ordering an extra cup of water. We had macaroni n' cheese, mashed potatoes, and turnip greens as our sides for the Roast Beef. The macaroni n' cheese was pretty good -- it tasted fresh and proportionally cheesy. The mashed potatoes were also good. On the other hand, the turnip greens didn't taste as fresh. The big kicker was definitely the thick-cut USDA Choice chuck roast -- that was delicious. Overall, I don't think it was worth it, both time and money. I can do this review in only 3 words: Shut It Down! I visited my daughter and her family over this Labor Day weekend and we went this Cracker Barrel for breakfast. It was super full but we got a table in minutes. That was truly impressive. Now for the food. Spoiler Alert it was NOT impressive. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled, smoked sausage, grilled sourdough bread and water with lemon. The scrambled eggs were so hard it was like chopped up omelette. I can't remember the side so it must have been meh. The bread was well grilled and the water was cold. My granddaughter ordered a side of bacon that was old, hard and greasy. The waitress said it didn't look good and would exchange it. It's a pretty good start to the day if you start it off at Cracker Barrel. There is just something so unique about this place. There are rocking chairs and various other woodwork you can purchase in the front of the building. There is also jumbo checker you can play outside. When you walk in you're walking through a shop with lots of goodies such as candles, candies, toys, etc. You go to the hostess stand and is seated right away. I got the SUNRISE SAMPLER. It literally comes with everything! This is more for someone who is a savory breakfast person than a sweet. There are 2 EGGS (the way you want them), FRIED APPLES, HASHBROWN CASSEROLE, BACON, SAUSAGE, HAM, and ALL THE FIXIN (BISCUITS with GRAVY, BUTTER, and JAM) The amount of food you get is crazy and for the price is an awesome deal. On the table there is this little game you can play while you wait for your food. The object of the game is to jump the picks until you only have one left. It's a mind teaser and will definitely entertain you. When you are done with your meal you go back out to the shop section and pay at the register. Browsing the shop you will find all kinds of things This place will bring on the holiday spirit. I was there in October but they already had 3 Christmas trees up. Just walked out of Cracker Barrel he girl that sat is I asked to sit by the fire there were plenty of tables and she kept walking back to the window. I said three times we want to sit at the table by the fireplace. She says no I will not seat you there. I said I do t want to sit by the window. Really badly managed! The wait is 2-3 hours and after that you are told its another two. The waitresses have no idea what they are doing. People on the table will not leave its just a giant miss-manage mess! When looking into the restaurant there are many empty tables, while giant lines of people wait outside trying to get in.
