Portions are HUGE, especially if you get the chicken fried steak. This place tends to be pretty greasy and heavy, most of the food is 'home cooking' so you get bacon in your vegetables, rolls/cornbread, lots of batter, tons of gravy, etc. However, the food has been good every time I've eaten there, and if you go on Monday nights you get chicken fried steak and all the trimmings for $7 a person. You can't beat that. Their banana pudding is pretty delicious, although the dessert menu is really limited. Lots of great salad options for the lighter-fare fans among us. I went to this location yesterday evening with my mom and grandmother. The food was descent. My mom went ahead and paid when the check arrived. After she received the receipt back after her card had been charged she noticed that the check which was over $62 seemed way to high for 3 people who got the "right size portions". We ordered 2 Teas, 1 water, 2 small CFS and 1 small CFC. The receipt said my mom was charged for all that plus and extra tea, a diet coke, extra side of veggies, and a whole other meal that was $15. We requested to speak with a manager. While my mom was speaking with him our waitress named Stephanie was watching and asked other servers to walk by and see what my mom and the manager were talking about. Making us think that the servers were in on the over charging. The manager named Christine walked to the back to fix the check. Stephanie came out and said that she needed my moms credit card again. The manager finally came back saying he ran my moms card again for $32. (having worked in a restaurant before a manager will normally refund the full order for a major mistake like that) My mom she felt like she shouldnt have to pay since our waitress tried to over charge us. He didnt listen to her all he said was "Is there anything else i can do?" My mom then had to ask for his name 3 times before he finally gave it to her. He also didnt give her the original receipt back for the $62. I will be contacting corporate office tomorrow to speak to them about it. Entered restaurant. One party of 3 ahead of us. Two girls at greeting table. Talking to each other. Did not speak to us or other party. One girl left and other girl just stood there and looked like she was scratching her leg. Another older girl came up and they were conversing. She left and girl finally greeted first customer and then us. A told her 2 and we wanted a booth. She left to check tables. There were only a very few customers in the restaurant at 5:30 on a Sunday evening. She came back and asked if table ok. I said no we wanted a booth. Lot of booths empty. She said she had to clean one. That took a long time. Finally seated us. Took a long time for food. Noticed another party had some kind of mix up on their order and another party did not get salad till after main meal and had to ask for it. Food was ok but not up to their usual par. Had a $5 off coupon and waitress forgot to take that off. Would not be a biggy but this has happened the last few times we have had a coupon. It's like they are trained to forget so customer will not notice. Several waitresses doing a lot of conversing amongst themselves. I fear this restaurant will not remain open judging from the bad reviews lately. The last few times we have been here there have been many bad issues. We have some gift cards and when these are used will not be back unless things change drastically. I used to go to Cotton Patch when I was a student at Baylor and It was always the place we went for fish and chips. In fact, that is probably the only entree I have ever gotten there. Their Shiner Fish and Chips are AWESOME. They taste like the kind of fish and chips you would get at a nice irish pub or something. They also have very good sweet tea and peach cobbler a la mode. For the entree, sweet tea and desert, I think I would spend around $15 with tip which wasnt bad. You get a lot of Fish and Chips. I would even split it with my mom when she would come and visit. The waitstaff was always friendly and prompt. They also serve rolls and cornbread and butter before your meal and refill it as much as you want. I'm not a fan of this place. The food is good enough, but some of the servers I've have leave little to be desired. When I asked our waitress whether or not a sandwich had tomatoes on it her response to me was, "Does it say it on the menu?" I told her no, and her reply was "then I guess it doesn't." What a rip off! We ordered a small fish dinner for $9.00 and it only included 1 medium piece of fish and 2 small sides. It looked like something off the kids menu. We didn't realize that our chicken fried steak dinner didn't have with the gravy until we got home. Instead, we got a lot of tartar sauce to go with the 1 sad piece of fish. This was our second trip to Cotton Patch, and everything lived up to my previous five-star review. The menu offers more than the usual burger/taco/chicken fried steak which is a welcome relief in Central Texas. Our waitress Tristan was very good, although she admitted this was her first week on the job and she was still learning. She must be a quick learner because she was attentive without hovering, brought our drinks and lunches out quickly, and was friendly without making you feel smothered. Extremely rude and inept Waitstaff! They have no clue What the menu includes. Our server was not happy to be a waitress but to Be honest she is not cute or smart enough to get a better job! We just moved to Waco and discovered this place. My husband had the chicken fried steak and said it was awesome. We shared the onion strings (they were so yummy). The first thing I noticed was my tea glass had food stuck on the outside. Second my side salad. The crutons were so stale you could cut them with a fork. Third the loaded baked potato. It was so cool the butter wouldn't melt. The bacon bits on the potato consisted of what looked like a small piece of jerkey. Usually love Cotton Patch but this is the first time I've eaten at this location and was not impressed. Could tell the waitress was new so pretty forgiving about the few mistakes she made but was super nice. She just was nervous. The food was just terrible! Everything was barely warm, if at all. Macaroni was not creamy like it usually is, the cheese was dried onto the noodles and had a rubbery texture. Not very appetizing at all. Okra was so hard and dried out couldn't eat it, obviously not cooked fresh. Pretty sure both were sitting under a heating lamp for a quite a while. In fact the only hot thing I had was the gravy on the mashed potatoes. Even the roles were stale. I gave two stars because the waitress really did try her best and was very nice. I haven't actually been inside this restaurant, but I do order lunches here for some of my clients. I just found out in the past couple of months that they deliver, and I'm always looking for new places to deliver to the offices I call on. It is just too much trouble for me to lug a bunch of food into offices! I've only ordered from here 4 times, and I've ordered the same thing all four times: grilled chicken with rice, steamed veggies, and salad. They bring two different dressings out with the salad, and dinner rolls come with the meal. I also order cobbler for dessert, and iced tea to drink. I do appreciate that they bring everything I need, and I don't have to worry about anything. I can just show up, sign the receipt, and do my thing. Thus far, they have always been on-time for deliveries, and that gets mucho points in my book! So far, I've been pretty happy with the food. It is certainly nothing fancy, but it is tasty, for what it is. I really enjoy the rice that comes with the chicken. It has great flavor, although it is very simple. The salad is always fresh, and the dinner rolls are hot when they bring them out. The steamed veggies are perfectly crisp-tender, but could use some seasoning. The chicken is okay, nothing special. Now, I have been good, so I haven't yet tried the cobbler, but I hear rave reviews. Although, this afternoon, although the berry cobbler had a nice crispy crust (per my client), the peach didn't seem to be completely done. Overall, I'll continue ordering from here because the food is pretty decent, they give me a good deal, and I like the service I receive. Stopped by the Cotton Patch Cafe today for lunch. It's been a while, so was looking forward to my meal. My server, Daylen, was fairly punctual, stopping by within 3-4 minutes to take my drink order and followed up with my meal order. I ordered the "One Fork Pot Roast" with sautéed mushrooms and macaroni and cheese. To make a long story short, mac and cheese great. Mushrooms okay. Pot Roast, awful. Crusty on the outside, stringy on the inside. The potatoes were fried (or baked) separate from the pot roast, and the whole thing slathered in a nondescript brown gravy. Another sever dropped off my order, and Daylen followed up in less than a minute, asking if everything was okay. To be honest, I didn't know by then. When she finally followed up, twenty minutes later, I told her the pot roast was awful. Though she offered to replace it with something else, I was out of time for lunch and declined the offer. So she apologized and gave me my check. My review is based on the fact that the food was so bad, but there was no discussion, whatsoever, to comp a meal with which I was clearly dissatisfied. My family came here the other evening for dinner and I have never written a review and even if there were one or two slip ups I don't worry about it but it was one thing after another. The waitress who was trying her best to be sweet and I still tipped her well, took her sweet time and didn't seem trained well. The food on the other hand was downright awful. My brother and I both got chicken fried steak and while mine was edible, my brother cut into his and his was straight up bloody under the crust. The broccoli rice casserole was also an issue, the rice and broccoli were basically uncooked. My mom and dad also didn't like their food. I placed a call in order for 2 SF baskets, skillet cornbread, and a small order of onion rings was told order would be ready at 01:11 pm called it in at 12:30pm got there at 01:12 was told it wasn't ready yet waited till 01:37 before it was ready when I questioned why it took over an hour to get get a called in order got no answer it seemed as if they did not start cooking it til I got there then got home no rolls but had gravy this time, this makes the 3rd time since the first of the year (2020) that I have ordered from the Waco store and not once have I gotten everything ordered. I will not be going back, I take my mother there when she is in town but I will go somewhere that take care of their customers. I arrived and just barely sat down when we looked on the wall directly to our right and noticed a cock roach crawling. My friend grabbed a napkin and squashed it. The first time was a train wreck and the manager gave me a coupon for a free dinner for two (a $30 value so who can complain). The second time the food was correct at least. But when they say your Togo order will be ready in 15-20 minutes, it will be AT LEAST 30-40 minutes (the first time I had to wait an hour for two sandwiches.....). I like the chicken fried steak, it's tender and flavorful, however, they seem to be using a packaged mix for the gravy, just have to add more pepper and salt. The portions are big, so I usually get the reduced size when ordering the chicken fried steak. The salmon is usually good, . I recently ordered the chopped steak with gravy and it was good. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by someone who didn't seem like she had a clue on how to greet and seat customers. She didn't have flatware for us and said she'd get some. Still no silverware. Our drinks arrived and still no silverware. Next rolls came out, they were out of corn bread, but we got rolls and little cups of butter but still no silverware. Our waitress came back and brought 1 bundle of silverware, and informed us that they were actually out of silverware and she apologized for the delay because she was assisting in the front because the hostess doesn't know what she's doing. Then corn bread came out, and still only one silverware. Several minutes lasted she returned with information about our order indicating that after being here for 40 min one of our meals was done but not the other. Finally after 54 minutes our food was brought to our table. Someone has seriously lowered the bar of expectations here, either the owner, the manager, someone needs to get a handle on the serious delinquencies occurring within this establishment. Every time we go the service is either great or horrible. Last night we went and saw 3 tables seated after us get your drinks and bread and we were still waiting for our server. When someone finally came to our table she had a bad attitude so asked for the manager. When he finally came over told us our server could not be found. I was already upset because after seeing the other 3 tables having been taken care of, and we are still waiting. So tired of when we go in one time great next super sorry.
