Alright, my wife and I decided to go out for a spontaneous date night. This is only the second time we've been to Saltgrass, and it was definitely a better experience this time around. Our server was Melissa, and she was a rockstar. I am not particularly fond of servers that hover, and don't want to be neglected either. Melissa was super personable, and was able to just give us the space and time we needed. It is rare to find a server that is running to and fro in the manner Melissa was while still giving the appropriate attention to their guests. Our drinks stayed tended to, our table was never cluttered with dishes, and we never had to ask for anything or remind her of something. Despite seeing Melissa handling other guests (including a group of fourteen high school basketball players and three coaches), it always felt like we were a priority. Melissa answered questions earnestly and was light-hearted and entertaining from start to finish. Oh! The food was good as well. My wife got the center cut filet, medium well, the smoked macaroni and cheese, plus a salad. The meat was cooked accordingly and the Mac and cheese was as expected, hot and cheesy. The salads were good, simple side salad, not overly complicated. I got the shrimp and artichoke pasta, which was filling and well balanced. Filet and Hamburger Steak with mushrooms was spot on however the Chicken tenders and shrimp temperature were served luke warm and probably cooked in same fryer as chicken tenders had fish taste. Only been to this location a couple of times now but DORA is a fantastic server. The fried mushrooms were a very tasty appetizer. Frozen sangria swirl is excellent. We both ordered the Cajun ribeye even though it is no longer listed on the menu and that was well worth the $40 each. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny but you could sign up for their rewards system to earn points on future visits. read more

We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary today and had the best dinner and the best service. Brad was our server and he was wonderful. The food was delicious. I had a filet mignon that was perfectly done and tasted delicious. My husband got the shrimp and it was wonderful and delicious. The atmosphere is always relaxing and wonderful here. It's really classy place to come and Brad is a great server. We just adore him. He even had everyone sign a little card and gave us an anniversary card. It was so thoughtful. Ambiance is similar to any other chain steak place. This one felt a little tighter inside though and not comfortable for a family of four. Service was decent, they were friendly and attentive enough. They did mess up my baked potato at first but quickly corrected it. The food is alright. Nothing stood out as great other than the size of their sweet potatoes are worth going for. The chicken was a little tough. I didn't get steak because after seeing others in the restaurant, looked a lot like other chain steaks but more costly. read more

I also remember the last time I went, the pork chops were not bad. Well today I was able to get pork chops and they were amazing best I've had in a very long time. Lots of flavor, very tender and juicy. The fried green beens and Brussels sprouts from the quail app paired perfectly with the pork chops. I've never seen bacon wrapped quail so I had to try them. Was here for a company event. We were in the back room. The menu was reduced but still had quite a few options for us. It was reduced as the food was paid by the company. The steak was cooked perfectly. The nacho starter was very flavorful. The servers were very polite and patient. The wedge salad was worth the upgrade. Lots of bacon and blue cheese. The back room was nice private and quiet for our event. The fries were decent. We each were packed a dessert I chose the carrot cake. It felt like it weighed about a pound. The restaurant was able to accommodate a large party without a reservation in advance so that was definitely a plus. They had a great assortment of items on the menu. We had never been to this location but when you go to Saltgrass you know it's going to be good. We were seated right away and had our order taken right away. The waiter let me know there was a gluten free menu and they were understanding of my needs which was nice. I got a gluten free bun with my burger and everything was on point. This was my first visit to Saltgrass and it won't be my last. FIVE-STAR. The ambiance was pleasant. Seating was nicely spaced out and it was not noisy. The food quality and taste were top notch. Definitely felt like a minority as they seem to gear towards the white folks. Second time I've had a not so great experience at this location The service was ok. Our waitress could have been better as we had to get her attention to come our way. The food was not so great as we ordered steak medium and was brought with a raw center. Sent my daughters back since her plate was full of blood and it came back burnt. The soft lighting and atmosphere is what brings me to SaltGrass compared to other steak houses but I'll try another location next time. read more

We were passing through Waco on our way to our son's wedding when we stopped at Saltgrass Steak House for dinner. Our server Mindy made the whole experience so nice right from the start. She was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We started with cocktails, and the Texas Tea drink was especially good. Bread was next. Mindy explained that it's made from scratch in-house. It wasn't as warm as I had hoped, but the flavor was great. The salad was good and fresh. My husband had the steak and shrimp, and I had the shrimp and artichoke pasta; both were excellent. The steak was cooked just right, and I absolutely loved the lemon cream sauce on the pasta! However, just when we thought it couldn't get better, Mindy brought out dessert: carrot cake with thick cream cheese frosting. The cake was moist and delicious, and the frosting was divine. My husband and I drove from San Antonio to Waco for a woodturners convention. We dined at Saltgrass on Legend Lake. We were sat 5 minutes after our reservation time and it was Baylor's Welcome Weekend! Meal: fried pickles, 12oz ribeyes, loaded baked potato and side salads We had a fantastic experience! Pickles were crisp, great flavor with good breading to pickle ratio. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Salads were cold, crisp, and fresh. What stood out though was the service. Our waitress, Hope, had wonderful energy, a great sense of humor and provided excellent service! She provided drink refills, picked up dirty plates frequently, and checked on us multiple times during our meal. I asked for a side of creamy horseradish. Placed an online order for pickup, was told by their website that the order would be ready at 7:30. Arrived to get my order and was told that it would be ready in 5-10 minutes, after standing there waiting for 14 minutes the head of the kitchen came out and said that they were trying to get some big orders out for customers in the restaurant. After 25 minutes of standing and waiting they finally handed me my order. This is the WORST customer service ever. I work in retail as an assistant manager and deal with the public everyday. If I or one of my employees treated a customer with such little regard for their time or money that they'd just spent in our establishment we'd be looking for a new job. I will NEVER step foot in this restaurant again, for a few dollars more I'll take my business to Diamondbacks or 135 Prime where at least I'm treated with the respect that a paying customer deserves.
