I didn't get anything but these are some of my favorite albums that I have in my wishlist. Providing photos for people to get a gauge on their pricing. Seems fair. I thought they'd be cheaper cuz it's kind of a hole in the wall record store but it's LA so I get it lol. I will probably stop by next year and get these if they're still there. I can't comment on the service since I didn't ask for any but I was comfortable. They also have a player inside to preview what you want to purchase.

Rude employees denied buying my books without even looking at them.

I brought in some books in to possibly sell with a good and respectful attitude and asked the counter lady if it's possible I can sell these books I have. She told me we only buy books at 6 and it was already 7 so I said ok no worries. After I turn away to look around at a dvd I was interested in buying she asked me if she can look at my books so I said sure why not. She didn't even look at my books she just glanced at them while I held them in my arm and said we wouldn't take those books anyway in a rude manner and I told her are you sure about that I bought a book at this counterpoint records and I'm trying to sell it back to counterpoint records. She asked in a surprised face really! I said yes and she said without even looking at the book no we wouldn't take it. So asked her if she was the owner and she said no I'm the buyer. I thought she was very rude, ignorant and very disrespectful because why ask to see the books without even looking at them or even doing research. I hope to speak to the owner of counterpoint records to make it clear that her employees are being disrespectful to customers. I was going to buy a dvd as-well before the employee rudely told me not to come back because we won't buy my books without looking at them insinuating for me to not go back to the store. I felt unwelcome because I'm a Latino male and honestly it felt sort of racist. I could have sold them somewhere else but I thought counterpoint records seem to have a decent collection of books etc and they would be interested in my books that are valued pretty well in eBay but I was rudely denied without a good reason and was excluded from this establishment.

great for a little photo op like omg i read books!

amazing selection! everything from philosophy to vintage magazines and tour posters, to some scandalous magazines (yes pls!) what couldn't you love? you can spend so much time here, so do NOT come with a little latte bc it can get a little overwhelming and we all know what happens when there's a lot of books + espresso am i right ladies??? some prices aren't listed though so on the bigger books i tried to buy i was definitely surprised. but i love supporting this place, very neighborly vibes and if you join their mailing list they host lots of events for the community! love!

Has anyone told joey that he sounds like jesse Eisenberg? A sweet spot but maybe a bit overpriced for a used bookstore

Used Bookstore Tour take dos/deux! So this one I ventured in on my own as I was literally wilting in that massive heat wave we had yesterday and I had dropped off my sister and her friend (visiting from Memphis) for a Hollywood Tour. Yelp handy app pointed me in the right direction for closest bookstore. It was air-conditioned GLORY HALLELUJAH! I didn't look for vinyls as my eyes were drawn to the YA section in the front that the books looked so pristine I thought for SURE they also sold new books too but NOPE 2nd hand book store. Prices were very affordable and the selection was great. I was able to find many books that I had pinned on my 'Books for Vacation Reading' board over on Pinterest... funny thing is a LOT of these books I have NEVER been able to find and they had them. SCORE FOR ME! The shelves are high so you betta have on 'dem glasses to see the tippity-top shelves and they also had used DVD/Blu-ray/VHS for sale at great prices too. Parking was conveniently in front if you are able to nab it and everything was in order not like some other shops that have everything every which way. Eleanore was helpful and friendly I will definitely make my way here again in the future. I might just make a special trip! Respectfully Reviewed #usedbookstoretour #bookstagram

I like the fact that they have a turntable on the side for you to listen to records before purchasing. More record stores should do this

UPDATE OF MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: After what started out to be a positive experience, I'm left with a…read morevery negative feeling about this place. IN A LARGE NUTSHELL: I originally called to see if ATRT carried a specific pressing of an artist/album and they did. I purchased that album plus four others. Played all of the albums BUT the specific album I needed - which was the most expensive - was literally unplayable. Contacted owner Kevin and he started making up store policies: claimed the invoice states it allows for only a 50% refund (it doesn't); then stated while he wouldn't refund me, he would try to locate another copy of the album which would probably have a later pressing/label & that I needed to be okay with that since it contained all of the same songs as the original pressing. (I wanted the original release, I paid for the original release, I expected the original release - not a later reissue on a different label - this shouldn't be difficult for any collector to comprehend.) Kevin attempted to bully me by repeatedly cutting me off with his confrontational, condescending, argumentative and arrogant tone which, honestly, was shocking, to say the least. Eventually he admitted he doesn't listen to the albums while simultaneously claiming them to be in great condition - after much back and forth, he finally agreed to reimburse me for the defective album. (It's as though he's great to talk to if you agree with everything he says but if he feels challenged, he takes it as a threat?????) I understand not being able to listen to thousands of albums to check their usability but if they don't work & he doesn't want to provide an in-store opportunity for customers to test them, do the honest thing. Also, post your lack-of-return-policy-of-the-moment so customers know in advance what they're settling for - NOTE: they have you sign the receipt after paying AND keep talking to you while signing so you simply think you're signing for receipt of merchandise - if there's a no-return clause or a partial refund clause, you won't know that. As I stated to Kevin over the phone, I'm not mad or angry about the hostile way he treated me, I'm actually sad - what could have been a pretty darn good experience with a local small business turned out to be a pretty awful one. MY MISTAKE - I should have read other reviews BEFORE visiting because there are wildly differing opinions on this place and all seem legit - the good and the bad. My first review was great and as you can see, that soured pretty frickin' quickly. It doesn't take much to be decent and honest - especially if you'd like to keep customers who are happy to share their experiences with others.

And while we didn't find the particular albums that we were looking for, we were blown away by the sheer ambiance and amount of product they do possess. Being a child of the 70's and '80s, we could have looked through their collection for four or five hours easy since I think those were the greatest decades of music with artist who not only achieved legendary status, but even one hit wonders that what have you going back into time. In fact, we were joking with the staff that we easily could have opened and closed the place down by doing an entire day shift right alongside them! The place really blows you away from a 5 senses standpoint as well. The sights, sounds, and smells all hit you at once-and in here and on this occasion, that was a great thing. If you follow a little hallway it leads you into a completely different section into what seems like a another small universe or at least galaxy. Once on the other side of this hallway which leads you to another portion of the building entirely, your met with even more records and additional musical and odd treasures. To top it off, a bar with alcohol awaits you! Lol You can't make this place up! Bottom line here folks is this is a really cool, cool place-especially for those who love classic music, a good beer, and the idea of hunting for what you want. I'd highly recommend this place....just be prepared to put in some serious time for research and for your senses to be able to take it all in.

What a huge selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, and cassettes! I found some titles I had been looking for recently. Yeah, I could have ordered them from somewhere online, but I want to support local shops because it helps keep the community going. There was such a large selection of genres, many that were new to me. I love being able to browse physical music again. I have found that slowing down and listening intentionally makes me appreciate the artists more. I keep hearing new things in songs that I have missed before. The next time I am in the area I will stop in again.

The condition isn't the best, they also need to put prices on everything. I picked up lots of items with no stickers on so you give up, especially since the prices at Nivessa are so high!
