Wanted to knock something off my list so we stopped by for brunch. We are rarely in the area so figured it was the perfect time since we were coming from Petco Park. SERVICE - The two gentleman that helped us were so kind. The short haired one always had the biggest smile when he came by. They both constantly checked on everyone asking if they were okay or if they needed anything. Loved the hospitality! FOOD Chicken & Waffles Benefit - Not your typical chicken and waffles dish. I tried them both separately. The waffle had a slight sweetness to it. The fried chicken was moist with a good breading on the outside. The hollandaise sauce that topped the chicken and waffles was tasty. It was definitely a more savory dish. Not so much of the sweet compared to other chicken and waffle dishes with syrup. Breakfast Sandwich - This was a good standard sandwich. It sat on sourdough and the bread was toasted nicely. The overall sandwich was a bit greasy though. When I picked it up, there was grease all over my hands. Overall, I thought the food was okay. Not a spot I would consider coming back to for brunch. We are from out of town and we were visiting & looking for a good restaurant to eat at. I am so happy we stumbled upon Counterpoint! I love the modern yet chill atmosphere that you are greeted with when walking in, yet it has a classy and upscale feel to it. We started off with the bacon Mac and cheese balls, which were sooo good. The spicy ranch had a kick to it but it had such good flavor! I got the Justified Irreverence, which was soooo good! Similar to an aviation! It was crisp and refreshing. For mains, we got the crispy chicken sandwich & the cheeseburger with fries. The mustard aioli was so fresh and well made! I'm obsessed with it The portions were well worth the price point, and i even was able to take home half my meal for later. Apart from the food and atmosphere, the service was phenomenal. Our server was a sweet and bubbly girl, unfortunately we didn't get her name, but her and the bartender were incredible, and kept making sure everything was good and they were super friendly. Went here last night after an incredible yoga class, our server was hella dope & the bartender was also super helpful. We decided to kind of start making our way through the menu (we will absolutely be back for more). The service was spectacular to say the least. Been here twice and it's a small spot with cute outdoor seating. I had the Benedict with chicken and waffles and I was pleasantly surprised. It had good flavor and the waffle was also savory. The potatoes were good but could've used more seasoning. I would come back and order this again. The last time I was here I stopped by for drinks and some Brussels sprouts with kimchee. The Brussels sprouts were nicely cooked and crispy but I feel like they were a bit overwhelmed with kimchee and maybe needed something more to even it out. I took some leftovers with me and had them with an over easy egg and sriracha the next day. If you absolutely love kimchee then this is the appetizer for you. Their pisco mule was refreshing and their old fashioned with mezcal was super smooth. Not many places that I've been to can get both of those right. The servers have always been attentive and friendly. The food I've tried has been good so I look forward to coming back and trying something new. Okay honestly I came here on a Friday night because this place was close to my Airbnb but I was really disappointed. There was something wrong with everything we ordered. The food isn't good here. It honestly felt like the chef was drunk in the back just throwing everything together. We ordered Brussels sprouts that were too oily but had a good spice to it. Then i ordered the goat cheese ravioli which was not good. It had so much potential but the cheese was smelly and the ravioli was too hard. There just wasn't enough flavor. It was too bland. The chicken sandwich was undercooked. The pot pie was too hot. Everything was too "something." The pretzel was good I think. It was better than Disneyland pretzels but Disneyland pretzels are horrible. One caveat is that the drinks were good. The service was incredible. The people were very nice and kind. But I probably wouldn't be coming back here again for the food. read more

There is outdoor seating at the front, and the place is somewhat open-air, which is very San Diego-esque. Parking: Street, anywhere you can find it. Pay attention to the street signs, but most of the parking shouldn't give you too much problem unless you have trouble parking on a slope. FYI: - Not for those on a tight budget. It's not expensive, per se. It's just easy to rack up a bill. Things are just too good to where you start to lose track of what you have at some point. - Great for dates. So delicious! I love this place. Been there twice and I can't wait to go back. I love the Kim Chi Brussel sprouts, shrimp scampi, and cocktails. The drinks here are great! They have a good assortment of beer and cocktails. The cocktail menu even included items you don't see on cocktail menus in the area usually, like mezcal and absinthe. The ambiance of the place is chill, loud music but it fits the vibe. The food- We got the birria tacos, brussel sprouts, burger and fries and the Cesar salad. The presentation is nice but the birria tacos were stuffed with fat. It was hard to want more food after biting into one of them. The salads were drowned in dressing. The brussel sprouts are on the spicier side but we liked them. The best thing any of us ordered was the burger and the fries are good also. I'd say come here for drinks and to visit. A very swanky place in this type of neighborhood, but glad I tried it! The food is pretty pricey for the portion. I got a andouille + shrimp pasta for $16. You get about 2 shrimps and sausages... but I would have expected more shrimp, but the flavor was really good. A nice spin on the creole with the mustard seeds. The orzo pasta went well with the dish. Very well presented and made. Great selection of beers! Missed happy hour... A nice spot to kick it with friends and they have one TV in the lower floor. One of my new favorite restaurants in Golden Hill. I have to say that I got attracted to it by its gorgeous architecture. I am not sure if they won an architectural award, but at least the building surrounding it with different apartments or business did. It is very trendy, modern, hip. Tattooed servers are de rigueur. I like the 2 levels structure, specially the view of the church across the street from the top floor. Very nice. And the art in the walls does not hurt the eyes but surely your pocket. My complain is about the horrible acoustics. I was actually having a verbal fight with someone and we did not care since it was so noisy even though there were only a couple of tables busy downstairs. It was kind of enervating. My cheese burger was delicious and the fries were a little cold and blah but the rosemary added was very original. I think it was rosemary or another herb. It was good and great variety of beers. I like the touch of turquoise color in the chairs contrasting the industrial look. Stopped in for dinner yesterday evening. My first time being here. I was with an elderly couple and my cousins. Nice ambience. There is only one booth with seating closer to the ground so my elderly friends had to manage with the high stools provided. There were tables and chairs outside but it was chilly. The drinks all sounded yummy and I chose the Tequla Maid. It was delish but the food runner took my drink before I was finished without me noticing and he didn't ask. He tried to do it again when I ordered another one but I caught him this time! The food was fab! Charcuterie board had some nice things on it and it all meshed well together and the ratios were perfect - cheese, meat, pickles, nuts and dried fruits. Yum! The fried chicken Sammy + fries for my man were so good, I had given him the choice of what plate he wanted since I would be happy with either and he had a hard choice. Honestly, I don't really know where to begin. The food here is top notch. Came in for brunch, so glad I did! Incredible flavors! So glad I got the chicken and waffles benedict. It was a comfort food classic that made my soul smile. The chicken was moist and juicy but had a nice crusty and crunch to it. The honey was such a nice little sweet addition on top, not too much though so the savory quality is what shone through. The eggs were poached perfectly. I have been to Cointerpoint numerous times over the last few years and never left disappointed. To start they have a long and impressive list of craft beers including 1-2 from Russian River which I rarely see. They have a very simple food menu and I usually opt for the beef or chicken burger. Far exceeded my expectations. It's a small spot, easy to drive by without even noticing. But the beer selection, cocktails and bar menu are very diverse. All of us found something delicious to eat and drink. I was feeling especially childish and went for the Mac and Cheese and was not disappointed. More mature guests when for the burger (thumbs up) and the beet salad. Both looked great. The indoor space is cozy and neighborly (and I did meet a new neighbor) and the patio is shady and breezy on a quieter street. I'm not a burger person but when I crave it I do my best to seek a good one to satisfy the craving. In search for good burgers around San Diego without the referrals of the overly popular restaurants. Searching to discover the off radar burgers. Sometimes a good burger isn't at a burger place. CHEESE BURGER - Half pound grind, American cheese, house cured pickles, mustard aioli, fries. A burger that was perfectly layered and was able to maintain it's "burger structure" after every bite - that's what you call a well executed burger. It was a simple classic burger offering good flavor throughout from patty to bun. I had the patty as medium cooked and it was extra juicy and tender. You can taste the onion, seasoning, and grill on the meat. The cheese was perfectly placed on the patty and not overly melted to the point where it wasn't dripping on the sides, it was the right amount of the cheese. On top of the cheese was their mustard aioli sauce - perfectly portioned without any drippings on the side. The house cured pickles were layered under the patty, they were delicious adding the vinegar element and also provided that crunch texture. There was no lettuce - which is fine, I could do either way. Sometimes the lettuce is just extras you don't need in a good classic burger. The bun was soft, buttery, and toasted. A good paring with the patty, not being to thick to eat nor to thin where its soggy. Overall good burger. As full as I was I continuously still kept eating. As for the fries, typical fries but a little too salty for my liking. CRANBERRY JUICE - Their cranberry juice is not cranberry juice. It's so tart, its kind of disgusting. There is nothing bad to say about this place and that's coming from a pessimist. The food was excellent and really stood out to me from other brunch restaurants. I ordered the pork hash, there were great flavors, crispy textures, and for a usually heavy dish the pickled onions?/shallots and herbs on top brought a brightness to the dish. The servers/bartenders seemed to genuinely care about your experience and made effort to make it the best. Ah they also have a full bar, but if you're not looking to drink at 10 am they have great coffee as well.
