The Church by The Lost Abbey is a nice place to spend a Sunday or watch a Padres game. They have a nice selection of beers on draft and plenty of indoor and outdoor space. They have a few employees on staff and service was very speedy.
This bar is badass. I had two beers both were decent and fairly priced. The music was a throwback to 90s alt. Really fun bar although a little creepy which is what I like. The service was top notch and the attention to detail was great and hilarious. I will come back for sure! Had a rough day but this place made it better
Wow Such an interesting experience in heart of SD...The service was great.The ambiance was weirdly exciting...The food was from next door i mean nacho, fries and etc and i dont consider them as food but they were ok...The parking was the real headache! The parking in petco park or even the public parking next to brewery did cost $50+ which it was ridiculous! It was 2 hours free parking which they were all full and there was other parking that you were supposed to pay with parking meter! Make sure to pay attention on the signs. When we were there the car next to us got a ticket for violation! They were actively checking the car to make sure everyone was paying for their stop! The beers were great here and i love the name of beers!
If we could only fix the problem with the flies flying around, add a few more options to diversity the menu (but something like 32 beers on tap, I hear) and improve the air circulation, we could have a great thing going. Overall, yes, this is a highly unique spot. And the staff is very attentive and helpful. You can also order hot dogs (and other items) next door and dine in here. Great concept all around. But it gets a bit sticky/uncomfortable and, unless you are bound to the beer assortment (which is very popular with some of the locals), there is not much of a main draw beyond the beautiful setting.
We yelped 'breweries' and hit 4 of them this night. It was blah blah blah . Then we made it here. Perfect finish. Definitely saved the best for last! The beer was great! The place is super cool inside. And the 2 people working were all smiles. I want to come back soon!!
Come for the beer and stay for the clever naming. They have very good brews and you can order from bar to get take out from the hotdog spot Nextdoor! I ordered the Avant Gourde and it was a delightful fall flavored beer that wasn't too heavy handed on the pumpkin flavor. The staff was super friendly and the vibe is very much a small church with stained glass and pews, everything you'd expect from church.
The drinks here were tasty, and fun! I loved that they converted a church to a brewery that made the ambiance nice. The outside seating area was great, and they had a food truck for food options. I felt a little rushed by the pourer when I was talking about the beer selections, but would still go back! Nice place to hang out.
First time at The Church by The Lost Abbey and was super impressed by the beautifully decorated location and the relaxed vibe inside. It's located within a historical building which dates from 1906 and originally was a Mexican Presbyterian church. They did a great job refurbishing while keeping the church feel. They have a wide selection of beers and hard teas. We ordered a hard tea and a lighter IPA and I really enjoyed the hard tea as it was super refreshing. The Church has a tv in the corner and they had the Padres game on so we sat down to watch a couple innings of baseball. Like most tasting rooms you go up and order and get your beer while at the register. You can keep a tab open or close it immediately. Over to the left there is a register where you can order from the neighboring hot dog place, Doggos Gus if you get hungry. The employees were really helpful in making suggestions on what to order. We will definitely return another night when we have more time to hang out. There is no parking lot and street parking is hard to find in the area. If you aren't nearby already I would recommend taking ride-share or the nearby trolley to get there.

I love this addition to the neighborhood! They are still finishing up construction on what will be an awesome patio. The outdoor space already includes a deck with some seating and there is more seating inside. They are calling this location "The Church by The Lost Abbey" which seems fitting since the building used to be a Presbyterian church in the early 1900s. They have a great selection of their beers on tap and currently one offering for non-beer drinkers but I imagine they all will rotate. I'm looking forward to having another nice casual spot with a ton of outdoor seating in the neighborhood.
I love this place!! Suck a great vibe. And the artwork is killer! Such a great place to grab a couple beers, contemplate life and chill with friends! The artwork is amazing too...unfortunately it's not for sale! The IPA's are amazing and the Javaland Ipa is spectacular!! Do yourself a favor and stop in and see Laura and also order a TJ dog next door before you leave. Made for a great weekend!!

Doggos Gus is located next-door so you can easily order from your phone or the kiosk to have the food delivered to you if you'd rather be inside. I got the Carne Asada hotdog. You can't go wrong with anything you order. The Smashburger was phenomenal. Overall, this is an awesome spot. Chill vibes. Great music. Dog friendly with dog snacks up front. One of my favorites.

I love when places repurpose different buildings like library coffee shops and this works well for a brewery. If it was just the small church it would be one thing but they also have a nice courtyard with hanging lights that could stand on its own. The beer itself was good but not typically what I like. What I go for usually is the super hazy ones and these were mostly hoppy but my wife liked them. The staff was super friendly and let us try a few before we picked. Overall a cool concept and a fun place to swing in for a beer. read more

We had a nice time at this cool location. They are dog friendly and have different seating options. My only complaint is that several beers were too high on the ABV for driving. 4 for location. Cannot give that a 5..... Ambiance is perfect for "sacrilegious" church. From the names of the beer to the altar of beer taps, this was the best. Whoever was behind the bar serving was great and the coasters were hilarious. Great stop on our brewery stops. Only downfall for me, location. It's in an old church, which is perfect (The Lost Abbey is on the front carpet). The issue is the area. Honestly, if I was alone, I wouldn't have stopped. read more
Didn't try the food so can't make comments on that. Service was great. The ambiance was cool, dig the church concept. Had two TV's for entertainment along with some music. Many locals here. Beer was okay, nothing crazy to brag about honestly but would definitely try it out again. Parking is a bit sketchy and the QR code doesn't work at times according to the bartender. read more
Pretty interesting idea of a bar. Loved the esthetics! Wished they had more beer variety to try but I got the blonde ale in a half size. Service was great and the cashier was so sweet and kind, she gave us her recommendations. No sours tho fyi. A great place to grab a beer before or after the Padres game for sure. Or if you just want a place to repent or ask for prayers with a cold beer in your hand, that's kinda cool too. They have a hot dog cart outside where you can also grab a bite to eat. Dog friendly! Now this is truly a hidden gem! Hidden in East Village, a few blocks away from Petco Park, is an unassuming historic building from 1906 that looks kinda of like a church... turns out it was a Mexican Presbyterian Church back in the days. Upon entering, you are transported into a small town church, stain-glass, pews and all. The main difference is the podium area has been transformed into a daft beer bar! Although not a restaurant, they serve brunch on the weekend between 11-1, with a nice variety of breakfast sandwiches/burritos, Micheladas & Mimosas, and of course their large selection of specialty beer on draft. As this was a church and remains themed as a church, the names of the beer reflect it. There were so many that I wanted to try, I just asked the beertender to surprise me with 3 tastings of IPA's. They don't have flights, but do sell tasting size glasses at $3 each. I ended up with the Jesus, Mary & Joseph, the Every Everything, and The Right Side of Happiness. All were wonderful, but my favorite of the 3 was Jesus, Mary & Joseph - which was fitting as it was Christmas Eve! The beertender was very friendly and the other patrons there were all quite cheery and friendly looking people. It was a nice mix of people, so anyone would easily feel welcomed there. To top it off, they are very dog friendly as well. I've seen the sign outside that reads "The Church is Now Open" a few times and was happy to be able to finally stop in. I will definitely be back again to try all the other IPA on draft! read more

Loved the atmosphere of this spot a lot! Ordered the "Shark Attack" (half pour) and it was absolutely delicious! The individual working the taps was super nice / kind. I would definitely be back! read more
Cool concept for a brewery! It's located inside of an old Mexican Presbyterian church. They even have the old stained glass above the taps! It's located a few blocks away from Petco Park, which is nice. The selection of beers is great and we enjoyed our flight that we got! They also have food options! read more

Great spot over in East village - quick walking distance to get to Petco Park. It's an old church turned into a brew pub. About 25 beers on tap, some are Lost Abbey beers, others from other brewers. I don't love super hoppy beer, which in San Diego can be a bit of a challenge. But they had options! (Wish I recalled names of what I got) Great indoor seating, with stained glass from the church creating a vibrant setting. Lots of patio seating, as well as outdoor seating by a corn hole game. read more
