    Ruben on sourdough

I had such high hopes for this place given the amount of great reviews, but it was just meh for me. I got the salmon BLT. The lettuce was 2 pieces of wilted spring mix,and it was on a sesame seed hamburger bun! This might be my fault for not switching to sourdough or something, but it wasn't that good. It would have been so elevated on better bread, with crisp iceberg lettuce and more aioli. My husband got the Reuben on sourdough and said it was delicious. I thought it tasted weird. Our two martinis were small, but only $10, so I guess its a fair price. I'd try something else if I go back. One bartender was working entire bar and restaurant, and keeping it together but he was slammed.

Stouts, eh? Well, there were 2 stouts - Guinness and Samuel Smith Imperial. We had the latter. Besides being served too cold, all of the other beers were IPA, lagers and similar. No porter, quad, triple, dubbel and so on. Kind of sleepy on Halloween eve. It's a bar, it has stouts and that's about all I'll say. Been there. Done that. Next?

Eileen is the best waitress we have ever had. She treats you as if you are a guest in her home. Loved her! The food and drinks were great as well. We will be back in a Thursday or Friday when Eileen is working!

The way I rate a pub is - how likely would I be to come here alone? And the answer is absolutely! My husband thinks that my rating style is an affront to him, haha! But it really means that it's a place that, as a woman I know I would have a great time with friends or a date, but I could also head there for a pint and a shepherds pie on my own and feel completely comfortable sitting at the bar for a solo evening. As a person who travels for work, it always feels so nice to find this kind of place - where you feel at home, the moment you walk in. Stout has immediate friendly vibes, a big comfortable bar and tables on two levels. Bar service is top notch. We talked to the bartender as well as one of the cooks who came out of the kitchen. The pub fare is good - there were fresh tomatoes on our sliders and the fries were salted perfectly. The bartender is one of those guys who'll make you feel like a regular on your first visit. I'm stoked to go back for poutine and another pint.

Popular Irish Pub in downtown San Diego, serving ok food and decent selection of draft beers. We stopped by during happy hour on a Thursday, and was able to find a booth near the front. The pub has an upstairs sitting area, a large bar downstairs, and an outdoor sitting area. We weren't sure if we were supposed to order at the bar only, but did see someone: it was all being served by one waitress (since most people were just drinking and ordering from the bar). It took a bit of time to have her come over, and was good that we had already looked at the menu on-line, since she really wasn't expecting folks to order food (she had no menus for us). The menu was the standard Irish/English one, with items like Sheppard's Pie, fish n chips, corned beef and cabbage, and Guinness stew. We ordered bangers and mash ($15), and fish n chips ($16), along with a pint of white rascal. The food came out at the same time, and it was fine with ok portions. The fish n chips had 3 fish fingers (filets of cod, lightly battered), with pub chips (deep fried potatos). The bangers and mash, had two imported pork sausages (looks like deep fried), on top of mashed potatoes, which was on top of baked beans. The baked beans were not mentioned in the menu, but luckily I love british baked beans for breakfast. Everything was OK: very finely ground pork in the sausage (not for you if you like your sausage more coarsely ground), and lumpy mashed potatoes (which means freshly made), on top of baked beans from a can. All of it went well together. The biggest thing I will remember about this place: It is very loud inside. When we were there, it was about half full, evenly distributed between the large bar and booths and it was consistently above 80db, so speaking across a table required effort. Almost all the folks there were celebrating the closeness of the end of their work week. Glad that Stout was so busy.

Good neighborhood bar. Irish vibe with some loyalty to NHL. Good beer selection. Selection of bar food is also decent but servings are on a small side. Service is lacking as bartender does it all....

    A solid, comfort food meal.

My Number One, who knows I like hockey, brought me here as a surprise. When we arrived, I immediately knew this place would be an Irish-themed pub, but to my delight, it's also heavily into hockey! There's so many games on Thursdays that every TV had a different game on! Of course I ordered the corned beef; and I enjoyed how big the pieces were. I tried his Caesar salad, and I thought it was way too fishy (if you look at my other photos, I've posted an amazing Caesar with fresh anchovy filets- freshness matters!). They have really extensive whiskey and vodka options here! I got to try a vodka/tonic and they don't pour heavy. Translation: I can order my own drink next time. The crowd is a totally different vibe than I'm used to- usually people come up and just start chatting and the energy is fun (I'll admit it's mostly in PB though), but here, everyone was quietly mingling with the people they came with. Service was okay; friendly but not attentive. Overall, I look forward to returning before the season is over. Pros: - Irish menu - extensive liquor menu - hockey! - floor design/layout (cute balconies) - open late Cons: - energy is too mellow - service was "just okay"

For a bar, that's not always a given, and as someone who doesn't drink as much these days, that immediately stood out to me. I grabbed a lavender leprechaun and it was super refreshing, light, and just a really nice change of pace from the usual soda-or-water options. It didn't feel like an afterthought, it actually felt intentional. For food, I went with the corned beef sandwich and it did not disappoint. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you'd want from a proper Irish pub. The whole place has that classic pub vibe but still feels welcoming whether you're drinking or not. That balance is rare, and I really appreciated it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially knowing I've got solid non-alcoholic options to enjoy.

I ordered the sampler that came with smaller portions of the beef stew, chicken boxty, shepherd's pie, and corned beef and cabbage.i think the stew was one of the ones i liked the best, it was hearty, the meat was tender, and the flavor was good. The chicken boxty could have used a little bit more flavor to the sauce, it tasted kind of bland. The shepherd's pie was the beef version, it was not the best I've had but still good. I feel like it also could have used just a bit more flavor or some salt. The corned beef and cabbage tasted like they added nothing to it to give it flavor, so i was a bit disappointed with it. However, the corned beef was pretty tender and i liked the taste. We also ordered the house burger which we liked. I liked the flavor the irish cheddar gave it. It came with fries, which tasted fresh and we enjoyed. It's pretty dark inside, and it definitely looks older, but that's the vibe they are going for. You almost feel transported to another time for sure. Yeah everything was in there The upstairs looks a little bit brighter, and in hindsight I wish we would have sat up there. I feel like downstairs is more for when you just want to have a drink and watch the game.

I hate leaving questionable reviews.. but also feel when we researched places we didn't get an accurate story. This is a true neighborhood pub.. the place you come so everybody knows your name. Which I love and can appreciate. But as an outsider it was kinda chaotic instead. A bartender came to clean a table for us. The largest grossest bugger hanging out of his nose, he had sweat marks so large there was no need to lift his arms to see them. He proceeded then to do shots at the bar with costumers. Which again... I totally can appreciate having a good time in a good neighborhood pub. The floors were so dirty around the booths. The menus dirty. Just over all couldn't stay and eat here. Did get some good laughs watching a few very inebriated customers, had some good drinks and went on our way. We personally wouldn't come back, but again if you live in the neighborhood and it's just that place you come to for your hang with friends, it's looks like it's a fun place.

His questions guided my indecision towards a Berkshire Old Fashioned that was fantastic despite my fumbling to get there. With the warm up round over and the old fashioned loosening up my creativity, round two was set to be a knockout. I love coffee (specifically strong espresso drinks), so I asked for a strong, coffee infused, punchy cocktail, but with a different base of alcohol from the old fashioned. What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. Flavorful, strong, bold, delicious all at the same time. Unfortunately (?), this was a noble experiment so I'll forever be chasing the white whale of what this drink was. But that's the allure.

We made a reservation and although we arrived on time, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.
