Angie was my bartender. She was super attentive. Asked what I needed right away. I think everyone hates waiting. Luckily I didn't have to lol It's a big area with a lot of tvs. Right in the heart of north park across the street from the parking garage. So you won't have any issue getting here. People watching is also key here lol. The food is fast to come out which we all appreciate. Is a good space with lots of daylight. It has that open San Diego bar feel that everyone likes.

True North is a True Testament to Dive/Sport bar culture in a sea of gimmicks, novelties, and aesthetic. It's simple yet reliable, as a True Tavern should be. With affordable drink options for the common bargoer, to various tvs and comfortable seating options for any sporting event. As for food, they're one of the rare venues that allow for outside food from nearby venues - allowing for an established sense of community from a reliable source.

It's always a great place to grab a drink. You'll have to order food next door but the vibes are great and the music, if they aren't blasting sports, is great too.

We stopped by for a group outing at True North! It was my first time here and was nervous when I heard it was in north park because parking is always a challenge! Luckily there is a parking structure right across the street that is a life savor! It is a very spacious bar ! We sat down and we were asked for drinks almost immediately and explained happy hour. We ordered the Slider Burgers with Fries , Nachos and Mac & Cheese and tacos . Everything was 10/10! I was soo impressed especially being from a bar! The Mac & cheese was my favorite ! The drinks were great and our server was awesome ! We will definetly be returning ! And highly recommend !

I think I found my spot for Sunday NFL food. Tons of Teats, tons of drinks, and lots of food !! I got the Diablo burger and made it a double ! Also my wife got the carne asada Mac n cheese which she loved. We shared the Buffalo wings and siracha wings and I think those are a must try !!! Definitely coming back here ! Our waitress was amazing and was so helpful. Great atmosphere! Follow me on Instagram, YouTube, and Tiktok for more delicious food @cerogrubs !

Came here Saturday night to watch the UFC fight , Sterling vs O'Malley . It was a $10 cover to enter , which wasn't that bad . Got lucky and found setting . It did take a while for the server to come by. We ordered chicken wings , Brussels sprouts and seared mahi . All 3 dishes we're total miss, not good at all. How can you kiss up Brussels sprouts ?! You can see by the picture it was way under cooked. However, in the beginning the server was better at getting our drinks. Towards the end of the night , she was no where to be found. We had to walk all the way over to the bar to close out . They need to be careful because people could easily walk out. Overall, come for drinks not so much food.

Fun Saturday vibes... good DJ... good bartenders... margarita is legit. Clutch sports and fights on every TV. Not sure what all the negative press is about. I've been to a dozen bars or so here in North Park and this is on par.

Popped in for a quick beverage and to check the score of the Padres game between errands today. Ordered 2 drinks off the HH menu (1 draft at $5 and a glass of wine at $6). When the bill came they changed us for 4 drinks. When we pointed out the error, the waitress seemed annoyed, but eventually came back with a new bill... and the new bill STILL had the wrong prices! They charged us $5 for the beer and $8 for the wine. We didn't bother arguing a second time... but seriously?? Do better.

Our bartender Mike was great, and may Mai Thai ($14) defiantly did what it needed to do. It was sweet, strong and served with the cutest bear-shaped glass with a beautiful purple flower on top. One drink had a girl feeling tipsy. We ordered from the late-night "midnight Bites" menu, which was the only thing we could choose from at the hour of our visit. Everything we selected was really good. Wed got the Frito Pie ($12), Chicken thigh tenders ($7), and Tots ($7). The frito pie presentation was my second favorite part (after the bear glass drink), It came in a all-clad style bowl with the chip bag cut open inside, loaded with Texas-style chilli, melted nacho cheese, and shredded cheese. It was so good I even started adding tots in there too. The tots and Thigh tenders had the perfect crisp! They have sweet and sour chili sauce for dipping with the chicken which was fab! The retro decor made the place even better. I loved seeing the old Blockbuster VHS tapes and music cassettes displayed around the bar. My little eye also spot the Dallas Cowboys flag! Texas energy is definitely in the house. There's also a small arcade area in the back, and my eyes instantly lit up seeing PAC-Man. We didn't get to fully explore the game room because we were trying to make it to Ghirardelli Ice cream & Chocolate shop for dessert before they closed at midnight too. Thankfully everything worked out perfectly since our car was parked right in front of Ghirardelli. NO military discount was honored here even though the owner is a veteran, but overall I still had a really good experience and would definitely come back whenever I'm in the Gaslamp district in SD, Cali. (Oops posted it on a smoke shop in Texas. This review was meant to be shared here) Update: Response to owner: Joe V. That was the best response from any owner I have ever received!!! I love that you mentioned yall haven't been mistaken for a smoke shop in Texas, that Mai Thai last mea bit. Yes sir I reckon it did.

I actually ended up calling the Tavern and Bowl to see if they had any earlier reservations and they told me if the person who requested an earlier time didn't pay the deposit I'd get the time slot. I am so lucky because these people didn't pay their deposit and we got the time and the lane. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite. The burgers are truly out of this world--juicy, flavorful, and expertly crafted to ensure a warp-speed experience with every bite. You'll find that each dish is prepared with precision, as if overseen by a skilled chef with the abilities of a Vulcan and the passion of a true culinary Starfleet officer. In conclusion, Nicky Rottens is a prime destination for anyone seeking a vibrant atmosphere, stunning views, and a solid meal.
