I needed something to eat and detoured to Nunu's. Walked in and BAM! The leather'ish booths, stained glass lights reminded me of a cool uncles basement bar. Old Stlye Beer sign and all. Food - 3.5 Service - 4.5 Ambiance - 4 for nostalgia Value - 4 The service? Friendly, attentive, and go with the flow. No fuss, just staff who knows how to keep drinks coming and food rolling out. The food? I heard about the ribs and gave them a go. They were fall off the bone tender, slathered in sauce, and 100% giving "apartment ribs" energy (you know, slow-cooked all day, slathered in sauce, hit with a quick sear). The cheese sticks, fries, and onion rings? Solid but in full disclosure, I was a little touched by the brown liquor at that point, so maybe things tasted even better than usual? Everything comes on paper plates with plasticware. If you're expecting white tablecloth service, keep it moving. If you're here for strong drinks, saucy ribs, burgers, and greasy sides, this place has it. Give em a go!Nunu's may be that spot you stumble into once and end up adding to your regular rotation. Welp! Onto the next!

When I have anyone visiting me in San Diego and they say "let's go to a dive bar", Nunu's is the spot I recommend. I used to be a frequent flyer many moons ago when I worked at a company that had an office right down the street. This was the go-to place after work. Vibes are darker with old-school classic furniture. Food is good for where you are and they have a pretty big selection. Usually always get the grilled cheese. No pool tables. Parking is street parking.

I went here for a early dinner. Somehow between 2 phones I deleted the picture of my meal, but it was very good. So was my previous meal cocktail. People in the bar were friendly, which is what I always look for in a bar, especially if traveling solo. I know I had a burger and fries. The bar is a little dark, and also had booth seating.

We were having a lovely round of drinks with our daughter, ready for a second round, when my daughter tells my husband there's a cockroach crawling on the wall behind him! He moves to our side of the table and we watch it continue to crawl around the wall. He quickly goes to the bar to pay and we rush out. I wanted to give them a chance to address the infestation so I left a note on Messenger - no response. I then called but the mailbox is full. Finally have to let them know here. We've always liked Nunu's but, for us, it's now Nono's!

Not quite what it used to be. Sort of disappointed by the changes - especially with the food.

    Is this 21 and up?

    Yes

YEARS ago they had the fireplace, xmas lights, it was all dim/cozy, all the seating= red booths. Then it totally changed to tall pub tables and a ton of tv's. Now the pix here look like it's basically back to original? Is that right? Tv's still tho?

Less TVs. Brighter lights. No more fireplace

Bartenders were cool. Nick was our fave though for sure. He made some mean cocktails. Solid liquor selection plus a list of cocktails to choose from. I initially ordered the something and picante (can't remember the full name) and found it to be way too sweet. Then switched to a basic Lalo with soda and lime to cleanse my palette. After tried their version of an espresso martini which was quite good but made with nitro brew and kahlua so a bit on the sweeter side. I ended the night with my fave drink though which was a Hugo spritz and it was perfectly balanced. Definitely will be going back, especially for the love band Sundays. Parking is all street parking.

Located in Old Town San Diego, we had dinner at a restaurant within walking distance from Oculto. I parked for free on the street and made a reservation day of. It's a pretty small speakeasy so if you're going on a weekend, you're probably going to have to make a reservation in advance. Ambiance (4.5/5): Oculto has the seven deadly sins theme going which is pretty cool. I've been to a similar speakeasy in St. Pete, Florida. Once you arrive at the mezcal bar that houses Oculto, check in with the host, and he will bring you to a "confessional." There, you must confess one of the seven deadly sins before the door to the speakeasy is opened for you. Naturally, I went with "lust." Once you get inside, it's a charming speakeasy. Service (2.5/5): This is one of the areas that leaves a little to be desired. There was only one bartender working when I was there. Since speakeasies have elevated cocktails, service was quite slow. They definitely needed two bartenders there to speed up the process. They also have a two-drink minimum which I was annoyed about on principle. I often have multiple drinks at a bar, but I never feel like I'm forced to do it. Food (N/A): I'm not sure if they have food, I don't believe they do. Regardless, I was on a liquid diet. Drinks (4/5): Pretty interesting menu of craft cocktails. When I'm at a speakeasy, I look for unique drinks that have an interesting combination of ingredients and flavor profiles. In addition to a nice list, they also have a dealer's choice cocktail where you can tell the bartender what you're into and they will craft a custom cocktail for you based on your taste. Another cool thing about Oculto is that it's located next to the cemetery in Old Town. That adds to the spooky theme.

I got a flight from the back room, where they serve mead, which is tough to find around San Diego. I ordered a flight, which came with six selections, and every single one was excellent. The staff here are fantastic. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and one of the chefs even came out to give the pups some pepperoni, which was a nice touch that definitely stood out.
