My dog Stanley stayed at Country Boarding Kennels over the holidays and had a great time. This was his second time staying there and this experience was just as great as the first time. First, the kennels and facility are immaculate. Also, Carol Ann and her staff are friendly and hardworking. Stanley was originally wait listed for a spot because we waited too long to make our holiday boarding reservations. Luckily, room opened up for Stan because I wouldn't have felt as comfortable leaving him somewhere else. Carol Ann went above and beyond to make our reservation happen and make my holiday trip to visit family possible. This was even more impressive because two days earlier I learned that my dog would need surgery to have a tumor removed. I was panicked and worried but Carol Ann assured me Stanley would be in good hands. She played nurse for us while we were away. They made sure Stan got his medication and was comfortable. They made sure I was comfortable by being able to call and talk to someone if I was worried. In addition to boarding for your cats and dogs, they have grooming services. I won't hesitate the next time I need to board Stan. I could tell by the number of family Christmas cards they get from customers that they probably don't need any more good reviews. When a medical issued caused my husband and I to be away from home for a period of five weeks, we worried about who would care for our elderly, sixteen-year-old cats Sophie and Yankee. In the past we have had mixed success with housesitters. Although we thought this arrangement would be less disruptive and less expensive than boarding, we had sometimes returned to grumpy cats and household accidents. Because we would be away so long, we thought we needed to have something reliable in place. Our cats are excessively spoiled, have the run of our house, and think humans exist to meet their feline needs. I should never have worried about their stay at Country Boarding! Our animals found a home away from home; their standard of care was worth every penny. As my husband puts it, Country Kennel provides "good value." When we picked up our cats, we found two plump and contented kitties. Their "rooms" were spotlessly clean, their every meow had been answered with affection and food and they were allowed "free" time to explore and lounge on the play equipment. The owner had even discovered our cats' favorite trick of drinking from a faucet! If you associate places that board animals with bad odors and barking dogs, you haven't visited Country Boarding Kennels. The dogs we saw looked as happy and friendly as our cats. The facility is immaculate and the people in charge clearly love animals. We will have to travel again soon and we have already made a reservation at Country Boarding. Our dog Patsy's home when we were away. We have been customers for many years and have always come back from our travels to find a happy, healthy, and clean dog to take home with us. A couple of years ago, we were gone for six weeks while my wife had major surgery out of state. We left Patsy here and when I was able to come and get her, she was happy to see us and none the worse for her extended kennel stay. The place is clean as a pin, has a friendly staff and is very understanding of the pets and humans needs. This is Santa Fe's best. read more

Please check the dates for positive reviews for this kennel. This business might once have been great but now is barely functional. They do not answer the phone, or return messages, and there is often nobody on the property leaving dogs unattended. We left our dog there for 10 days after reading positive reviews and visiting the facilities. What we didn't realize is that the kennel is severely understaffed, with well-meaning but inexperienced workers and the owner is not on site. I arranged to pick up my dog at 2 PM on a Wednesday, sat in my car front of the padlocked gate at the kennel for 5 hours but nobody showed up. From this I believe animals are only being fed/watered/kennels cleaned once a day in the morning. Finally I called the SF police who kindly hopped the fence and took a picture of our dog inside so we knew she was alive at least! We picked her up the next morning. She has kennel cough (yes - had updated shots), is exhausted, and clearly had not out of her run in 10 days despite the walks we had arranged. There are lots of good options for dog kennels in Santa Fe, but I'm sorry to report that this is not one of them. read more

We had to leave our young dog for a long stay so we could go to a funeral back east. He had a daily walk and a bath. We picked up a happy dog who was calm and clean. The medium size kennel was fine and he could go in or out at will. The place is very clean in and out of the pens. Dogs looked fine and not unhappy barking. We will use again and relax. First off, they kept calling my dog by the wrong breed. It's not hard to tell the difference between a yellow lab and a golden retriever. We paid extra for the walks each day, but I am pretty sure they started out by walking another dog (probably the golden retriever). Second, they called me in a panic about missing paperwork and a contract that needed to be signed. Understandable and I was happy to complete it upon our return. When we arrived to pick up our dog, the contract had miraculously appeared and had been filled out correctly. Again, pretty sure they had mixed up the file on our dog with another dog. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. It seemed unorganized and scared me when I got a frantic call on vacation about our dog when really everything was fine from the start. BEST KENNEL IN SANTA FE! We have been using Country Boarding Kennels since we got our dog 7 years ago. Whenever we go out of town, we put her there. I even put our 2 cats there for a week when we were evacuated due to a forest fire. There have been some HORRIBLE stories about some other kennels in Santa Fe where the owner closed up shop and just left the animals unattended for days/weeks, etc. This is NOT true of Country Boarding Kennels. Country Boarding Kennels is a reputable business. It has been in operation for MANY years. It was recommended to me by a close friend, who used it for many years before we got a dog. The facilities are clean and the pets are well cared for. Each animal has an indoor-outdoor "room" during the day. i believe the outdoor option is closed at night, which is good because you never know who is wandering around outside at night. They offer grooming services starting with a brushing on up, so you can have your dog groomed before you pick him/her up. For an extra fee, they will walk your dog daily. You can bring your own food, or they will feed your pet Science Diet. For dogs you can choose small, medium or large kennels. The cats facility is wonderful too. Highly Recommend! read more

My dog came home from a weekend stay and she had a cut on her leg. When I asked the owner where it came from she said that she didn't know- "maybe on her walk" How the hell does she not know why my dog is bleeding!?!?!? Then when we got home I found fleas all over her bed. I had to go out and have her treated for fleas as well as deal with the fleas in my home/bedroom. I have left my dog here 3 times and customer service is mediocre at best. The owner will charge you for an extra day for being 5 minutes late- even if you call!!!! I will not be returning and I suggest the owner become more knowledgeable when it comes to pets that are injured in her care. read more

We boarded our dog at the Country Boarding Kennels for 3 days in April of 2010. He had a very nice stay, as we can always tell by his reaction and attitude when we pick him up, if he enjoyed himself at a kennel. The kennels are clean, with no smell. There is enough room for our large dog to move around. The staff was very friendly and showed us where our dog would be staying. My husband, our dog Teddy, and I arrived in Santa Fe last week and within a day my husband was hospitalized with a heart attack. I went by there to see how the facility was looking. I used to board there about 15 years ago. It looked run down and no one seemed to care about what they were doing or the animals staying there. I had read about the dog that got lose when they were walking it and then run over by a car. Then someone I deal with a work told me they boarded their small dog there for 5 days. The kennel forgot about the dog, it was never fed or given water the entire time. When this person picked up the dog it was covered in maggots and died. I have seen the vet report and pictures. I don't know how anyone could take their animal there. read more

We have been dropping off our dogs at Country Boarding for years, but the service was so exceptional this past time that I felt it was important to share my review with others. Angie our eldest dog was dropped off by my husband after I had to leave the country for a family emergency. As he didn't know the drill, he didn't bring her necessary soft food.
